<description>I have never used Outlook to any extent so I can't really say for sure
whether this a Windows 7 problem or not. I started using Outlook when I
upgraded to 7 but it does not save my passwords when I close it. Each
time I start Outlook I have to enter the passwords for all of my email
accounts. I tick the box that says save passwords every time. It saves
the passwords as long as the program is running but they disappear when
it is shut down. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to fix
this?

That worked perfectly! I'm going to bookmark that link in case it happens
again! Took a minute or so to fully open up, but the document I tested it on
was opened when I double clicked on it. Thanks so much!

      <description>Tim,

I had a similar problem to you, with documents opening and being unable to
move the cursor except with the arrow keys. I contacted Microsoft at the
time and they just told me my login had become corrupted and to create a new
login. However some months later I came across a Microsoft KB article which
obviously showed lots of people had had the same problem. The KB article
took you through how to get rid of the problem and it worked. Go to

<description>Okay... I've built a procedure that seems to work okay and copies the
current DB to a new file.

It depends on the fact that the FileSystemObject will copy a database even
if it's open.
What isn't mentioned anywhere I could find, is that it copies the last saved
state.

So as this is mostly to save VBA versions rather than anything else I hit
the save button in the IDE then run the procedure.

Sadly, that didn't work. After deleting normal.dot I pulled up the paper I
was writing for class, and not only did Word open without a blank document
or my paper (as would be expected), it just opened without a document (I had
double-clicked on the .docx file). I discovered as I began making suggested
edits that I could not click to move the cursor within Word - I had to use
the arrow keys on the keyboard. I couldn't highlight anything either. I was
able to save my changes, but right after I clicked the X to close word, it
said Microsoft Office was checking for a solution to this problem, then came

<description>Yeah... I think you may be right... Googled quite a bit but no luck really.
Thought of replication but that won't work either I think.

What I've settled for at the moment is a desktop shortcut to a bat file that
does the copying and then opens the file.

But it's not pretty.

<description>I have a feeling that you won't be able to do it from VBA. Notice that when
you do it through the menus, it closes out the main database window before
doing the backup. This is similar to tools such as the compact/repair and
means that Access is actually closing the database before doing the
activity. This would close out any VBA that was running, too.

You could possibly do it with a VB program, running externally to Access.

Alternatively, have a look at a Google search of the subject. There are
many ways that people have fudged backups.

And thanks for the info.
Yes I saw the backup option but I'd really like to be able to do it from
VBA... Any ideas?

Is the date enough for you? When I'm doing that I normally inlude the time
as well. Incrementing a number obviates that though because the highest
number is always the last updated and there's always the possibility of
sorting the folder on date/time.

use the Back Up Database and name the saved file as you like. I do a

      <description>Hi all,

Whenever I load up Word 2007, it either opens without opening an existing
document or a new one; or it'll outright crash and close. Any idea what
might be causing this? I have already attempted a full uninstall and
reinstall of Office, and re-updated it with the latest updates and yet it's
still crashing or opening up without a document. There was recently a prompt
about changes to Normal.dot saved, and I haven't made changes. I have run a
full virus scan, and have 2 real-time checkers running (Malwarebytes and
Norton 360). Yet this persists. Any idea on what's wrong or how to fix it?

<description>Google Docs is an office suite similar to Microsoft Office but it is fully
online and the files are stored online in Google's servers. You can use it to
prepare documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms and folders. You can go
to for their tutorials. This forum deals with Microsoft
Office suite products only so this is not the appropriate forum to discuss this.

I believe, in the more recent versions of Windows and Office, pst files are
now considered system or hidden files? Be sure you include system and
hidden files in your search.

<description>I use Word 2000. The Grammar checker can be edited and customized. The
easiest way to find it is to open Help in Word. Select the Index tab. Enter
grammar (without the quotes). Click on Search to find something like
grammar_checker as a keyword. Double click on the keyword to get a list of
topics. In the results look for something like Set rules for writing and
grammar style. Then just follow the links. That way you will find
information about how to establish grammar rules as well as being able to do so.

My sympathies. My wife's Yahoo account was hacked last weekend too.
Someone cracked her password and sent a email with a malware link to
everybody in her contact list. The header on the messages shows they
did use the yahoo servers but they left no evidence in the sent or trash
folders. It was a mess.

<description>In Australian English the word staff means The people who work for an
organisation. And it is quite acceptable - even normal - to treat it as a
 plural, like the word people

Not the English that I was taught (in Canberra, in the '50s). :-)

To me ... staff contact ... would imply the people acting as individuals -
i.e. lots of contacts. ... staff contacts ... would imply one contact
from a member of the staff (acting as a group, with any of the staff able to
make the contact, but only one member per contact time).

Theres quite a bit about it on the web.

<description>You can't just copy program files from one computer to another. They need
to be installed on the new computer so as to set the registry entries, put
the dll files in the windows directory, etc.. If you get your original
office install disks and reinstall the files, then run the updates
(Microsoft update) then copy the .pst file and open that with Outlook, you
should be more or less there. You might find it helpful to use the Office
files and settings transfer wizard AFTER you have installed the programs.

<description>If your old .pst file is still on your computer or in a backup you should be
able to recover it. Just do a search for it. If it has been overwritten it
is possible a data recovery expert could recover some or all of it but that
is VERY expensive, I believe.

      <description>Dear All,
I am using outlook 2003. Recently I sent a mass mail and I lost the copy of
E-mail IDs I sent. Now when I checked the sent items most of contact is
displaying as NAMES instead of E-Ids. When I am copying the same to notepad or
excel, still e-ids are vanished and only Display Names are appearing.

I want to store all the E-mail Ids to a notepad without going to one by and and
double clicking on them. Please help

Thanks Regards,

but opening gives a blank empty Word page.

<description>Not a problem Graham ... I don't believe there is a way to send the
out-of-office messages to select people ... I think it's all or nothing
(which is stupid), unless you create a rule with a template and send that to
individuals, which is a lot more work. The biggest problem I have with the
way Outlook sends the autoresponders and the way Freelists works, is the
autoresponders are sent to individuals who post, but not the whole group, so
if I don't post every damn day, I don't know that someone's autoresponder is
doing that ... once I see one, I always put that person on vacation ... but
many times I don't post and I'm unaware of it. I wish I could fix that
part, but I don't seem to be able to, so I hope everyone will forgive me for
 ...

<description>Dear all, and Linda in particular

My apologies that I didn't set up the above before a couple of you sent
messages to the group and may have triggered my Out-of-Office message. I was
really under pressure with deadlines yesterday (UK time) and couldn't find the
setting in Outlook to exclude certain addresses from receiving the O-o-O. I
have now set my account as Vacation mode.

Best to all

either a 2-digit or a 4-digit year. Currently I am using an input mask of
99/99/00;0;;0;;0; (I'm not sure where the heck all the rest of that came

Suggestions?

      <description>Michele:

Three ideas.

1. A really simply trick is to have your users click Tools Options
Print, and then check the Update Fields check box. This tells Word to
update all fields before displaying the Print Preview. Then you tell the
users to just toggle into and out of Print Preview to update all the
fields. This has the advantage that it updates fields in the headers and
footers as well, which Ctrl + A, F9 doesn't.
