I kinda dislike the absence of fsck like tools for ASM, and the lack of backup superblocks, not sure if this changed in 11g. It is there now with new ASM Volume Manager and ASM Cluster File system :) However you don't need it for DB files any way. There are other methods checking Oracle DB files integrity. Aside from that I feel it is a killer product. Similar functionality with cluster filesystems cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, except in the case you go for OCFS2, and that is available for linux only. Pravin, Load balancing using eBusiness suite standard tools can provide high availability for most of the components, but not all, it cannot provide high availaiblity for the entry point. For that you will need either a clusterware to manage virtual IPs, could be from Oracle or Sun, or an external load balancer appliance. If you go for the Sun clusterware, check the prerequisites and the available functionality carefully to see if it will work with Oracle Apps. ...

Agreed - with some serious scripting, use of VIPs, and general clustering experience you can go quite a ways with a commodity NFS setup; the more time and expertise you put into it, the higher the brain cost. Chuck, I don't agree that this setup can't deliver automated NFS failover. It should be possible to set these boxes with a shared device, DRDB, OCSF2, whatever, and use Oracle CRS to manage the NFS server and virtual IP. The Linux NFS server already has some provisions to allow for a high availability deployment. From a performance requirement perspective, commercial NFS is overkill for shared application file systems. Standard Linux/UNIX NFS will do just fine and is quite cheap. For failover, you can simply set up two servers and have them rsync changes from one to another. If you experience a failure, simply mount the file system from the failover on your application servers and off you go. It's not instantaneous, to be sure, but it provides a couple of advantages: 1. Cost is very low. A pair of ~$900 white boxes with mirrored disk ...
