I've spent the last 2 days wondering whether to publicise it to Pure Silver.

Finally modesty failed me. J

<description>Does the hair move around at all? or is it stuck to the glass. If it is in
the same place, then I'd look for a repeating mark in ALL images shot at the
same f stop. However, That looks a lot more like a processing flaw than a
light problem. A light block would make a light area on your neg. Lighter on
a neg, prints darker not lighter. EXTRA density, a lighter area on an RA4
print, can come from photo stabilizer or a kink from film loading. The
fairly regular shape also does NOT match the irregular shape of the hair.
You would also need to be stopped way down to focus that dirt or hair onto
the film plane.

<description>The photo showing the defect doesn't tell us it's orientation relative to the
film. Is the long mark running lengthwise? My first guess, since you've not
scanned the film yet, is a processing problem such as stabilizer/final rinse
marks. Scanning the film will tell u if it's a print issue or film. You need
more info to make any real guesses.

took them for his own memory of the last days of one of the most important

I forwarded this link to many of my friends and family. The ones I forwarded

<description>I'm sure my wife would have killed me, and that would have been my
last photograph.

The toilet photo was especially poignant for me - walking dad to the
bathroom, and helping sit, and get back up, was one of the few things
I could do for him towards the end.
He let me feel like I was being useful, and I let him feel like he
could still do it on his own. A win-win in a losing battle.

and the poor layout of the site, and the poorly placed yet beautiful
and important text.
We buried my dad two days ago, and I have to say that I found his
decline over the past few months, and then in his final hours to be
one of the most profound, and touching experiences of my life. I did
not have the courage to document any of it. I thought like you, that
this is something left for the memory, and not something to show. But
seeing another man of my age tenderly attend to his father in his last
days gave me some company. I didn't feel like voyeur at all. I didn't

      <description>DEAR DON,
Well said. We must remember that a photo that creates a feeling of
discomfort is not necessarily bad. The precedent of an affectionate photo
of someone on the throne was established by Lartigue when he photographed
his new bride, Bibi, on the throne the first morning of their honeymoon.
It is embarrassingly intimate and affectionate...and that is exactly what
makes it so amazing and memorable.

Of course, this is different in many ways from the photo in the
essay but the motivation is love, perhaps of different kinds, in both

      <description>You're welcome Tom

No news yet on either of the Ilford products. I think it will be a while yet
for the lithable product. They have to retro engineer the lithable paper and
use older technology they don't have in use so it isn't straightforward. I'm
promised to be the first to know and as soon as I do I will cascade the info
down to my mailing list.

Best wishes
Tim

      <description>Tim,

Firstly, thanks for the update on materials; although I wonder what has
happened to the new variable contrast Kentmere papers, in addition to
the ILFORD branded lith paper. Statements on APUG from earlier this year
(spring) gave the impression the new Kentmere papers would be introduced
this Autumn, while news about the lith paper was put out in the summer.

<description>Sorry to be even more ignorant than usual, but: what are glassines ?

Here you can still buy large flat tubes of clear flexible plasrtic to
put the entire film into. Then you can cut this.

The tube has a slit at the back, you can open the tube from the back to
get the film out, without pulling it lengthwise (which scrtches the film).

Is that any help ?

<description>Double sided can go at the back of the film towards the middle and thus hold
larger sheets flatter. I think I first encountered this as a suggestion for
doing long time exposures where there can be a problem with large format film
slipping in the holder.
All the best

<description>Hi Marty! For pinhole use, it might be easiest to cap the lens like olden
days, if the Graphic curtain won't cap. Best, Rich

Thanks for the suggestions, and I'm especially intrigued by the double-sided

sides. But doing it in the dark would be difficult in either case. (No

What I have (and I laughed at your question, Bogdan) is an old ('20s or 30s)
8X10 Graphic back that was obviously from an aerial camera -- bolt holes in
a circle in the body, large trigger mechanism for the shutter. I completed
the camera by attaching dowels to the bolt holes and wrapping around them

<description>Yeah I read about that. I wonder if they are his, and how
they ended up at a garage sale in Fresno. I can definitely
see their historical significance. The Ansel Adams
Publishing Rights Trust is denying authenticity for now,
but you never know.

<description>Funny (sort of), once processed, the film I thought was Forte had the TMY
imprint on it. Called Kodak professional back and eventually they found that
their code notch pdf hasn't been updated, but their film pdf has and of course
had the correct code notch there. =\
Given that it could have been either film with this client it would have been a
tossup as to which time/developer to use. Good thing the dev times were very
close!

      <description>Hi Marty,

I just checked in the darkroom storage and I have several 8x10 glass
plate holders that have thin metal inserts that take either 8x10 film or
5x7 and I have several inserts for 4x5. The thing is that a glass
plate holder takes glass that is 2mm thick, give or take a hair, so you
have space inside the holder, 2mm for an insert and film.
