Denver Police recovered it and I learned my lesson.

Looking forward to 2012 even though the Mayan countdown clock is already underway. Wedding photography a different perspective.

My cousin Chris married his beautiful fiancé Karie-Ann this weekend. I went but not as the photographer as a guest. It was great they didn't even ask me to shoot it, I did however take the camera and lights. I begged them after dinner for 5 minutes of there time to pull is off.

When I got there, I wanted this photo of them together with the Holy Cross Abbey in the background. I'm ordering a big print for them as a gift. Shoosh don't tell them!

After the ceremony I shot some quick pics on the Fuji X100 of my twin Mikes family and his adorable daughter Inara. She was a a bit camera shy at the beginning but warmed up to me making funny faces and giggling at her.

Roan even showed what a good big brother he is.

The rest of the pics I took at the reception. Less then 100 photos all day on two cameras at a wedding is probably some kind of record. But then again I wasn't 1st shooter or 2nd or even 10th. I was there only as a guest to enjoy the event. I even got into a debate with Athena about which side is best to photograph on her. Look how pretty she is. This side won.

You can see the rest of the pics on Facebook as my family wants to see them and I'm only going to put a few here.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/freemanfotos/~3/hjPe1WEf9Wo/karie-ann-and-chris-wedding-day-wedding.html" title="Karie-Ann and Chris wedding day. An adventure in DSLR cleaning.

My friends Rob and Dan are big sticklers for cleaning their gear. If Dan's not shooting something he's cleaning a lens almost OCD-ish but look how clean this images are. Rob can tell you tales of being sprayed with champaign after a Cardinals win and taking weeks to clean his camera.

Me, I like to clean everything when it gets to the point of bothering me. You know, when I'm spending to much time in Photoshop cleaning up dust spots or removing hair. This behavor is changing and I'm getting so sick of it that today I pulled out my hodge-podge sensor cleaner stuff and did my best to clean up my D3.

It's not the easiest camera to clean plus I'm horrible at removing dust bunnies and the more I swipe the more they populate. I soon had enough - Aaarrrgghhhhh!!!! ( Charlie Brown style screams)

I haven't worked in the past month( long story, involving Alien invasion to overthrow earth porting through my foot ) so taking it to a shop to get cleaned is out of the question.

I started looking on the intrawebs about cleaning and remembered the success I had when Rob showed me how to clean my sensor and that I needed better cleaning equipment.

Thought bubble: isn't it funny how photographers will cheap on everything but lenses, light and bodies? "but we're resourceful! We utilize things laying around!!" = BS!

So off to Denver Pro Photo to pick up some real cleaning supplies.

It took 20 min to clean my sensor and all my lenses once I got back and had the right stuff. Cost me two hours of time being cheap to learn this lesson.

So here's a bit of fatherly advise I have been told a time or two. "Get the right tool for the job! It'll make your life easier." lesson learned.

Now with this stuff, maybe I'll be cleaning my gear more often? I know I'll be spending less time in PS - bonus!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/freemanfotos/~3/ScChfo_vL1Q/cleanliness-is-next-to-godliness.html" title="Cleanliness is next to Godliness.... We decided to take a trip to the garden island of Kauai. The flight here is truly ridiculous. Almost six hours in a seat with nothing to look at except blue sky, white clouds and blue water.

It takes it's toll on a person.

I couldn't imagine flying here from the east coast that's three extra hours of traveling. I guess the road to paradise has got to be grueling because once you get here it's.... Well paradise!

After some much needed sleep we met up our long time friends Dan and Marta who moved here a year and a half ago. They either are the craziest people we know or the smartest. In 2009, they sold all their belongings left their family and moved to an isolated island in the pacific to follow their dreams and leave the lifestyle of consumption. Marta will tell you tales about how it's hard here.. The island will spit you out if your not kind to her. They've seen several people move here expecting to make it and end up with broken dreams and life's broken apart like a shipwreck on the rocks.

They have made some hard changes from having excess money and buying comforts everyday to growing their own food at organic farms and working hard at accepting the their new lifes, so far the island is welcoming them.

Yesterday they took Athena and I to the local farmers market where we met some of their friends and got a bounty of great fruit which we get to start eating today!!!! Dan has recently started a new chapter of his life as a photo tour guide taking people around the island stoping at great hidden spots so the tourist have amazing photos to go back home with.

After the farmers market we went to the beach to go snorkeling but the waves were really choppy and we decided to go to another beach. Athena and Marta laid on the beach while Dan and I ran around shooting photos of the waves crashing against the black lava rocks.

As you can see this place is amazing and I can't wait to see what the rest of our time her will bring.

Mahalo

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

Jonathan P. I pulled out my SB-26, umbrella, PocketWizards and stuck them on my light stand. I put the SB-26 on and 1/8th power and had Efrain stand in for his portrait.

Soon the symphony started playing and the crowds started getting closer to capital and the stage for a better view of the soon to come fireworks. So I took down the light stand and just had my Fuji X100 on the tripod.

Once the fireworks started it was amazing being right under them. I snapped off several shots and them started running around sitting down snapping off long exposures as the light streaks raining down over head.

I hope you enjoy them.

Oh yeah and here's a shot of me.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

Jonathan P. What is an xsync speed?

Well it determine how fast a shutter can be open when a flash fires. Most cameras are limited to 1/250 with matching brand flashes and cameras. (Nikon to Nikon, etc.) if you want to use your off brand flash or radio remote trigger with your Nikon body you'll be even lower with a shutter speed of 1/125. Other brands like Canon's are the same way some even require you to drop to 1/60 of a second to xsync.

This can be quite troublesome if your subject is moving; say on a skateboard, or there is movement behind them or maybe you want to balance sunlight and flash.

With the Fuji X100 it's xsync tops out at 1/1000 for most Fstops. This is wonderful. I read this on a blog post and immediately grabbed my gear and went out to test it out.

Get exposure for Bright sunny day (check) ISO 200, F4.5 @ 1/1000 same for all the camera exposures.

Then set up my SB-26 with a PocketWizard and my trusty umbrella. No subjects around so I step in (sorry to ruin the moment). That's me standing in the shadow of my umbrella and the flash firing.

I got closer so you could see the sun hitting me and the flash. Look at my pant at the bottom of the photo. Ooohhh!! Both sunlight and flash exposure....
Yes it xsync at 1/1000 of a sec!!!! or I'd be nothing but a big dark silhouette.

That is 3 stops more to use for stopping motion or balancing sunlight and flash portraits. Which look great with this 60" umbrella.

Here's the info on the back of my SB-26 for what I was using on it. I'm not even going to try and get you filled in with what has been going on over the last year. I'm just going to start off and continue like I didn't even leave.

I've been looking for a small travel companion of a camera for several years and could never really come to grips with finding what I wanted. I'm picky that way.

I recently got a killer deal on a used Fuji X100 that a previous photographer didn't like. Yes this little bundle of joy has it's quirks. That's what everyone has posted on the forums and their blogposts.... Search google for Fuji X100.

I've had the X100 for all of 2 days and have been taking pictures left and right. Like all the interweb is saying it has some quirks... Get over it or get a different camera. Even in the few months this in demand camera has been on the market, Fuji has already put out a new firmware update to answer some of the complaints. Now that's service and great timing as I just updated the firmware last night.

I happen to be really excited and each day comes with another surprise. But for now I'll just post about the pictures I took on day one.

Here I'm in a store using seeing how close I could get before having to turn on the macro function. I was about 4 inches away. ISO 200, F2 at 1/4 sec. That's pretty good hand holding. LOOK AT THAT DOF!!!!

And how about that sunset? This I did some in camera tweaking. But first. The tech info for those who want it. ISO 200, F2 at 1/2000 sec. I had the in camera ND on and the WB manually set to 3500K I think to keep it cooler.

What do you think so far?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

Jonathan P. They have a HUGE outdoor motocross park with I believe 8 tracks all lit up with stadium lighting. It's absolutely awesome. I would love to ride there but every time I go I have my camera and no bike.

Having my bike with me when I go out is usually my problem. I want to ride until they come around telling us their closed we need to pack up. Then I usually go "Damn, I didn't take any photos"!!!

Well, a couple weekends ago, I finally got out the camera and lights and tried a single light set up. Of course it was off camera as I'm a lighting nut like that. (No jail house photos from me). I had to try out my modified light stand leg...

Light stands have three legs, these provide stability which is good.... most of the time. But what do you do when it's not most of the time?

I read on Strobist quite sometime ago about a guy doing this and after my frustrations in Cali at the track with trying to get my light where I wanted it I decided it was time to MOD-out my light stand.

It's a pretty simple idea you drill out the rivet on one leg and then drill holes every two inches up and down that leg. Then if you are on uneven ground you can still have a light stand pointing straight up.

It worked great and allowed me to get the above shots. You can just nearly see it above the "n" on the watermark. Next time I'll take a better picture of the light stand.

Oh yeah and what do you do when your dirt bike doesn't have a kick stand?

That's right, use the monopod! And here's a reference shot for all you photo nerds.

All these were taken with a single SB-26 on a stand to the right of the jump.(left side of this image) Shot on my Nikon D3 with a PocketWizard radio trigger. Watkins motocross track in Watkins, CO.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 65px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/TIWsUxQyzMI/AAAAAAAAAOc/5Mtk196vw68/s200/postedfrommyipad.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514002791606176962" />

Jonathan P. I promised Athena I would take her to go see her all-time hero Snoopy at the Charles M. Shultz museum in Santa Rosa.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/THsJW0M4F2I/AAAAAAAAAN8/ey4Af-Qnclg/s320/112_0193.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511008856592357218" />

So we left SoCal and headed up past San Francisco to the museum. We had a great time there reading all the comic strips and learning the history of the Peanuts creator. He even lived in Colorado Springs once.

This brings me back to the long drive home. I-80 out of California takes you through Nevada and into Utah. Right past this little known place with no buildings or structures only a sign marking the spot where humans attempt to make history.

It's the Bonneville Salt Flats, a huge desert like climate that is purely salt for miles and miles. Do to the nature of the salt being so level people from all over the world come to set the Land Speed Record.

In The Worlds Fastest Indian, Anthony Hopkins plays an character who travels from Australia with his motorcycle to see how fast he can go. It's a very well done movie.

The place is unlike any desert vie ever been before. Nothing grows there, it's completely baron and yet somehow quite peaceful. Athena went on a long walk exploring while I set up a couple small flashes to get the shot with us and Mudflap (the Element).

I truly want to go back.

Jonathan P. We used to ride dirt bikes when he lived here in Colorado. Recently he lost his job with Wagner, his house and got a divorce all in about four months. Hard times for sure.

Shaun moved back to California to help out his dad and while he was out there ran into Kim and her kids. They new each other from way back and have been catching up and spending a lot of time together. It's good seeing Shaun happy again.

They invited me to go dirt bike / ATV riding out in the desert since I was out in Cali and I gladly accepted. I wish Athena could have come but it was to close after surgery and the doctor wouldn't allow it.

We rode all day out in the middle of no where and had a total blast. I got that blue 450cc ATV up to 93 mph top gear wide open at one time. It was so fast!!! Afterwards I asked everyone to get together for a quick photo.

I set up two speed lights about 45 degrees from each other pointing towards the group. Turned them on and BAM BAM BAM off they went right into my face. While I waited for my vision to return I started singing "blinded by the light...."

It seams high powered overhead power lines emit a strong enough signal that they set off my radio triggers. So the flashes kept popping.

What to do? I couldn't move everyone we were on a time limit so I moved the light stands about five feet and they popped off only every once in a while. I could work with that. I just needed one good shot.

All in all I took three shots that day. Two of them were usable. Above is the best one.

Jonathan P. Being away from home for a month seriously takes its toll. My lovely wife had her surgery and we were out in California for a month.

I may not of been posting much however I did shoot every chance I got while I was out there. I'll be posting those photos shortly.

Here is our friends Chad and Kym. We hung out with them on afternoon and they told us about this place they go and sit and watch the sun set.

I quickly grabbed my camera bag and away we went. I set up the flash in a softbox on a light stand. The wind was blowing pretty good on top of the hill so I had to have Athena hold it while I shot them. Then Chad or Kym swapped as Athena got a pic with each of them.

Jonathan P. Let me get that out in the open. The last time I went fishing was over twenty years ago and it turned into a really bad experience.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/S4x9mTgt59I/AAAAAAAAANc/w_AgtUnyalI/s320/001_bdmorrow_8356.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443864146610087890" />

My dad was taking us twin boys up to the lake to spend the day together. I don't remember all the details but I do know that my twin brother Mike & I managed to turn the fishing pole we were sharing into a giant birds nest. Really just the line the rod was fine but we had twenty feet of line in a huge mess. Don't ask!

Needless to say dad wasn't to happy with us and we ended up calling it a day and going home. It's still is sore spot for dad that we never went back out.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/S4x9yYYKs8I/AAAAAAAAANk/rQu7YeGcViU/s320/003_bdmorrow_8386.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443864354074833858" />

Well, I may not be able to throw a rod & reel but I can definitely hook some light. My friend Brian builds his own bamboo fly fishing rods. He actually has quite the setup in his basement. He trained under one of the best in America & has some amazing bamboo rods with all this intricate detail.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/S4x97nRLAVI/AAAAAAAAANs/Io4AXNWYP2c/s320/004_bdmorrow_8403.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443864512690848082" />

Brian needed some product shots for his website so I went over and fished around some lights. Jay Kilgore over at Club Supershoot was going over the business side of shooting models.

We discussed all the aspect of running a photography business from incorporating to marketing. Jay brought us all up to speed on some of the new laws covering model photography and what we should do to cover our asses. The main goal was to have great shots to build a model portfolio. This included a head shot, full body and a product shot.

The class also got to see the downside of models as only one out of the three models showed up. Joelle arrived on time & was a bubbly fun girl to shoot all day.

One of the pluses of the day was seeing first hand the contributions the MUA can bring to a shoot. Julie Gallahue of Goldie Mae Productions was a crack up and did an amazing job on the hair & make up. I'll definitely be using a MUA on shoots when I can.

Jonathan P. Camera bodies, lenses, flashes, tripods, light stands, umbrellas, softboxes, studio strobes, etc... All this gear to create a amazing photograph.

I really think this is why most pro's get assistants. Right? or they just use available light only. One time while second shooting a wedding with Diana she pulled out her Kata bag. I was like "ooooh I need a big bag for all my light gear".

I started looking at camera shops, then online, then eBay, even craigslist. The few places that had them I got sticker shock. This is insane! If people want to know why photography is so damn "expensive" it's because all the gear we buy to make that incredible photo cost so damn much.

That's when I decided to get creative. One day while at a sports store I came across a hard case for a golf bag to protect it when golfers travel on airlines. It had plenty of space, locks, handles & best of all wheels. Plus it was a quarter of the price as some photo lighting bags.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/S04ydehPHFI/AAAAAAAAAMw/85AoDGtMcd4/s320/001_hardcase_7852.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426330083018087506" />

Now it was time to see if I could find a deal. I found this one on craigslist in northern Colorado and drove up to get it. Once home I could get all my stands and light modifiers in it and it closed. A couple weeks later I installed the bungees to hold the umbrellas and softboxes in on the otherside.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/S04yz_oWXFI/AAAAAAAAAM4/XVDFWokU6Ts/s320/002_hardcase_7855.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426330469863414866" />

This thing is perfect, it can carry my stuff, fits into my Element & was priced right. As a photographer you have to be creative not only in you pictures but also in your business.

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P. Since my little brother Jeremy is shipping off in February, dad wanted everyone to come down & spend Christmas day at there place.

I told dad I wanted to get a picture of everyone outside all together around sunset. I planned out how I was gonna pose them. Where the lights were going to be.

The Colorado winter storm moved out and the southern skies opened up and turned blue. I was getting all excited the image in my head was gonna come true. Unfortunately, dinner was going to be ready and I didn't have enough time to get everything set up. Plus by the time I explained what I wanted to do, everyone was saying that it was to cold to go outside.

I got all bummed out. This vision wasn't gonna happen. I decided that later I could shoot everyone downstairs in the basement so I better go shoot the sunset. I raced to my car unloaded my camera bag and click click click.

After dinner and some gift exchange before everyone decided to leave. I drug all my gear into the basement to set up the shot. Athena and my nephew Dakota helped me set up the lights. I had one Octabox as my main light high camera right, then two stripbox set behind on either sides. It was all powered by my DIY battery pack.

I then spent a good part of a day photoshoping heads, people and the background into the shot. I think the final images turned out really good. Thanks everyone for sticking with me on this.

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P. He set up three separate stations that we all got to shoot to see the difference the light modifiers made.

I don't know how late they stayed as I had to leave but I guess it went in late. I've become more comfortable using studio lighting thanks to these shoots.

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P. While surfing the web I came across the Colorado SuperShoot website. They had an event coming up so I signed up.

I haven't had much practice shooting models in the past. I've usually just shot friends, family & a few other clients. Model photography is a whole other world then what I'm used too. It's easy to ask you brother to just wait while you compose this shot, or your friend to try that trick one more time to make sure it's awesome. But having a model willing to do what I ask her. Way different!

The guy putting it all together is Jay Kilgore who is quite comfortable shooting anything. The shootout had about 20 photogs show up and although some of the models didn't, the models that did.... were terrific! Thanks Reese and Mihaela.

We started out with shooting only available light. Later we added a reflector, then some people started using on camera flash & a couple of us did some off camera flash. I pulled out my SB-800 and pocketwizards and got some rim light to seperate my subject. Later, Jay even did a demo using a big Elichrome Ranger that everyone got a chance to try.

The big ol' ranger on the light stand started to act as a lightning rod once the rain & lightning came. This bit of danger kinda forced the session to end early.

All in all, it was a good day. I left with a smile on my face & some good shots in my camera. Hopefully next time there will be more models to talk to. I've got to get more comfortable directing them and this kind of opportunity really helps.

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P. Saturday was my company's holiday party. So before Athena & I headed out I had to take some pics of us all dressed up.

I set up my white seamless paper in our living room as the background. I put the camera on a tripod with a timer to shoot us. Then got out the Alien Bees. One is in a 5 foot octabox as the main light and the other Bee is in a 1 foot x 5 foot stripbox for a side light. I used my PocketWizards to trigger the lights.

Then I'd push the button and run over and it was up to us to do something in front of the camera till it clicked. We had an absolute great time doing this. Athena wanted to stay and do more but I thought we should get to the party. (I can always set it up again).

David Hobby over at Strobist wrote up a blog about this app Strobox. So I thought I'd try it out. Here's the lighting diagram on how I had the setup. All this was in my living room.(wow!)

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P. I went out on the Illiminate Workshops free night photowalk.

This night happened to be the biggest turnout I've ever been to. Efrain does these night out on the town every month as a way for photogs of all calibers to get out shoot something, network & above all else feel ok to bring their camera out at night.

I spent the majority of the night leading the pack down to the Cherry Creek bike for some cool water picks. Then we moved east towards the Denver Art Museum. The DAM was very busy this Saturday night as it was the "Free Night at the Museum". To get away from the crowds we moved down to the Capital building.

There I decided it was time to pull out the Alien Bee and softbox I had been lugging around all night. I settled on a spot where there's this Liberty bell and the Capital building in the background. Set up two SB-26s in the grass in the back to side light the bell and then set up the Bee. By this time I'd peaked the other photogs interest & the all came over.

Then it was time for individual portraits and an action shot. To see the rest of the photos taken that night click on any of these photos to be taken to the gallery. You can also see other night shots there as well.

If you're interested in going out with some really cool people check out Efrain's nightshoots .

Jonathan P. You may remember Rob from my previous posts. He's been shooting for several magazines lately and doing quite a good job at it.

We met at Ink coffeeshop and talked about all things photography, what's been going on in our lives, how much shooting or lack of shooting & what people think about pretty pictures.

If you're not connecting with local photogs, I recommed giving them a call. You'll both learn something and maybe push each other to improve your work. I've known Gabe & his mother for several years now and we always talk about shooting a family portrait of their entire family. Something always comes up as you know life happens.

<>

Anyways Tamara said Gabe didn't want any typical senior photos as he's on the yearbook staff and he's seen them all. We decided to go downtown by Union Station. City scape's are always cooler then parks.

So I start setting up my Alien Bee on a light stand and out of nowhere there's this cop saying we can shoot there. Apparently there's the EPA building down there & you can't photograph it? I politely ask if I can shoot the other way and he says yes just as the second police car shows up.

The cop walks away and I giggle thinking that this is my second session this year were I got security or the police showing up.

<a href="http://www.freeman-fotos.com/photos/653544107_65meS-M.jpg"target="blank">

Back to Gabe's session, we make sure & point the camera away from buildings and shoot away. We get some good shots & then decide to move up by the big mast at the end of 16th street mall. Gabe's little brother Sheldon hops up and wants a photo taken of him so I quickly adjust the lighting and shoot them both.

Tamara and Gabe both really liked the shots we got. I happy we gave Gabe something other then him leaning up against a tree.

Now all we got to do is get that schedule worked out and shoot that family portrait.

<image style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 63px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ph3TMIGQwFM/SYFR2Ndvw9I/AAAAAAAAAKI/7Wu9DPGwtTo/s200/postedfrommyiphone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296604628533625810" />

Jonathan P.
