Walter Black (Gibson) is a depressed toy executive. He is kicked out by his wife (Foster), to the relief of their elder son Porter (Yelchin). Walter moves into a hotel. After unsuccessful suicide attempts, he develops an alternate personality represented by a beaver hand puppet found in the trash, which from then on he always has with him, and through which he communicates with other people. This helps him greatly recover. First he reestablishes a warm bond with his younger son Henry, then with his wife, and finally with Porter. Also he is successful again in his work.

Porter gets paid for clandestinely writing papers for schoolmates. He also takes on the job of writing the graduation speech of Norah (Jennifer Lawrence). He likes her and is embarrassed by Walter showing up with his beaver puppet. After the speech she admits publicly that she did not write it herself, and explains her trauma caused by her brother's death, some years ago.

Walter's wife moves out of the house with the children, because she hates the beaver, and because he lied that is was part of a treatment monitored by his psychiatrist. Part of Walter's personality wants to get rid of the beaver, to reconcile with his wife. He does this in a dramatic way by cutting off his underarm holding the puppet. He ends up in a psychiatric hospital. Porter, who hated his father and kept track of all similarities to him in order to work on avoiding them, reconciles with him.

Scream 4 (stylized as SCRE4M) is a 2011 American slasher film and the fourth installment in the Scream film series. The plot involves Sidney Prescott returning to Woodsboro after ten years as part of her book tour. As soon as she arrives, Ghostface once again begins killing students from Woodsboro High, including her younger cousin's friends. Prescott, Gale Weathers-Riley, and Dewey Riley once again team up to stop the murders, but not before having to learn from a new generation the "new rules" of surviving horror films.

Originally, the series was intended to be a trilogy, but after ten years, Bob Weinstein thought it was the right time for another film. Depending on the box office, Scream 4 is intended to be the first of a new trilogy. Williamson had to leave production early due to contractual obligations and Ehren Kruger (Scream 3) was brought in for re-writes. Campbell, Arquette and Cox are the only returning cast members from the previous films and were the first to sign on to the film in September 2009. Panettiere and Rory Culkin were the first of the new cast to sign on in May 2010. Ashley Greene was initially the choice of the lead character, Jill, but the role eventually went to Roberts. Filming took place in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan in June 2010 to September 2010, with re-shoots in early 2011.

Scream 4 was released on April 15, 2011 to mixed reviews. It took in $19.3 million its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, making it the second-lowest opening since the first film.

Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is a Chicago middle school teacher at the fictional John Adams Middle School who curses at her students, consumes lots of alcohol, smokes marijuana, and only shows movies while she sleeps through class. She plans to quit teaching and marry her wealthy fiancé, but when he dumps her, she must resume her job as a teacher. She tries to win over substitute teacher Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), who is also wealthy. Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch), a dedicated teacher and colleague of Elizabeth, also pursues Scott while the school's gym teacher, Russell Gettis (Jason Segel), makes advances on Elizabeth which she rejects.[3]

Elizabeth plans to get surgery to enlarge her breasts, believing she is being overlooked for women with larger chests. However, she cannot afford the $10,000 procedure. To make matters worse, Scott admits that he has a crush on Amy, only viewing Elizabeth as a friend. Elizabeth attempts to raise money for the surgery by participating in her 7th grade class car wash in provocative clothing and by manipulating parents to give her money for more school supplies and tutoring, but her efforts are not enough. Amy, acting on the growing resentment between them due to her pursuit of Scott and ignoring of school rules, attempts to warn the principal about Elizabeth's embezzlement scheme, but he dismisses her claims as groundless.

Elizabeth later learns that the teacher of the class with the highest state test scores will receive a $5,700 bonus. With this knowledge, Elizabeth decides to change her style of teaching, forcing the class to study intensely for the upcoming test. However, the change is not enough and the students have low scores on their quizzes, frustrating her even more. Meanwhile, she befriends Russell the gym teacher as Amy and Scott start dating. Elizabeth steals the state test answers by impersonating a journalist and seducing Carl Halabi (Thomas Lennon), who is in charge of the exam. Elizabeth drugs Carl in his office, and steals the test. A month later, Elizabeth wins the bonus and pays for the appointment to get her breasts enlarged.

When Elizabeth learns that Amy and Scott are chaperoning an upcoming field trip, she taints an apple with poison ivy and leaves it for Amy. Amy ends up with blisters covering her face and backs out of the trip. On the trip, Elizabeth seduces Scott. They engage in non-penetrative sex, and Elizabeth secretly calls Amy to ensure she knows. However, Scott's peculiar behavior starts annoying Elizabeth. Elizabeth later gives advice to one of her students (Matthew J. Evans) who has an unrequited crush on a superficial girl in class, which causes her to reflect on how she has been superficial as well.

After hearing Elizabeth and Scott having sex, Amy switches Elizabeth's desk with her own to trick the janitor into unlocking Elizabeth's sealed drawer. The evidence Amy finds leads her to suspect Elizabeth cheated on the state exam. Amy informs the principal and gets Carl to testify against her. However, Elizabeth took embarrassing photos of Carl while he was drugged and uses them to blackmail him to say she is innocent. Having noticed her desk was switched, Elizabeth informs the principal that some teachers in the school are doing drugs. When the police bring a sniffer dog to search the school, they find drugs in Amy's classroom, in Elizabeth's desk. Amy is moved to another school by the superintendent. Scott asks Elizabeth to start over, but Elizabeth rejects him in favor of a relationship with Russell.

When the new school year starts, Elizabeth is kinder to her co-workers, has started a relationship with Russell, and did not get the breast enlargement because she feels that she looks fine the way she is. Elizabeth also has a new position in the school as the new guidance counselor.

Criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller (McConaughey) operates around Los Angeles County out of a Lincoln Town Car. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, including a member of a local biker gang, until he lands the case of his career: Louis Roulet (Phillippe), a Beverly Hills playboy and son of real estate mogul Mary Windsor (Frances Fisher), is accused of the brutal beating of a prostitute.

Haller thinks Roulet is innocent, having simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Haller and his investigator Frank Levin (Macy) analyze the pictures and evidence, notably the injuries the victim sustained. It bears a similarity to a past case of Haller's that landed a previous client, Jesus Martinez (Michael Peña), in prison for life for murdering a woman, despite always proclaiming his innocence.

Haller has a daughter with his ex-wife, prosecutor Maggie McPherson (Tomei), who has never appreciated Haller's efforts on behalf of guilty clients. All his clients claim to be innocent, but Haller begins to wonder if he should have tried harder on behalf of Martinez instead of convincing him to plead guilty in exchange for avoiding the death penalty.

Martinez becomes agitated when Haller visits him at San Quentin and shows him Roulet's picture. Haller begins to suspect that Roulet could be the real killer in the Martinez case, but bound by attorney-client confidentiality rules, he cannot tell the police what he has learned. That night, Roulet breaks into his house, nonchalantly admits to the murder that put Martinez in prison, and makes veiled threats toward Haller's family.

Levin is mysteriously killed after leaving a voicemail message claiming that he has found Martinez's ticket out of jail. Haller is suspected of killing Levin because he was shot with a gun missing from his house, a gun that Haller believes was taken by Roulet after the latter broke into Haller's home.

Obliged to do his best for his client, guilty or not, Haller ruthlessly cross-examines the prostitute and discredits her in the jury's eyes. After a prison informant lies to the prosecution on the witness stand, the defense moves to dismiss all charges in the current case. Roulet is set free, but the police then arrest him immediately for the previous murder case, based upon testimony Haller coaxed out of the informant.

Haller acquires a gun from his driver, Earl (Laurence Mason), as a precaution against any retribution he may face. Roulet is released due to lack of evidence and sets out immediately to kill Haller's wife and child, but Haller finds out in time to get them out of the house. He is waiting as Roulet arrives and draws his gun. Roulet mockingly tells Haller he won't be able to guard his family this way every day. Just then, a group of bikers that Haller has previously represented brutally beats Roulet while Haller looks the other way. He got a call from Maggie that there was a parking ticket issued to Roulet near the house of the murdered victim — strong evidence against Roulet in his pending murder trial — meaning that Martinez will be released.

Upon arriving home, Haller discovers Roulet's mother inside. She shoots him with his own gun, the same one that killed Levin, confessing that she committed that murder to protect her son. Haller, wounded, kills her with his new gun.

After being discharged from the hospital, it is learned that Martinez has been released and the District Attorney will seek the death penalty against Roulet. All the while, Haller rides off to his next case.

Edward "Eddie" Morra (Bradley Cooper) is a writer who lives in New York City and has recently been dumped by his girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) in addition to failing to meet the deadline to turn in his new book, which he hasn't started yet. One day, Eddie comes across Vernon Gant (Johnny Whitworth), the brother of his ex-wife, Melissa Gant (Anna Friel). Vernon is a drug dealer, and he offers Eddie a sample of a new nootropic drug, NZT-48, claiming it has the ability for humans to access 100% of the brain's power, as opposed to the normal 20%. Eddie accepts, and, much to his surprise, the drug does indeed work, allowing him to finish his book.

Eddie asks for more of the drug, but he finds Vernon murdered and calls the police. He deduces that Vernon was probably killed by someone who wanted his stash. He finds the NZT and a wad of cash and uses them to turn his life around. He abandons his writing career and starts trading stocks, borrowing capital from a Russian mafia thug, Gennady (Andrew Howard).

Eddie becomes rich at an incredibly fast pace and is soon employed by the powerful businessman Carl Van Loon (Robert DeNiro). Eddie also gets back together with Lindy. He is followed by a man in a tan coat (Tomas Arana). He also starts using more and more NZT, causing side effects to occur: lost time, frenetic activity, and heart palpitations.

Eddie fails to accomplish a task assigned by Van Loon because of an NZT hangover, and fears he might even have killed a woman (Caroline Winberg). Suffering severe withdrawal symptoms due to the post-hangover attempt to quit NZT cold turkey, Eddie begins to feel incredibly sick and he turns to Lindy for help, revealing his addiction to NZT. Reluctantly Lindy agrees to retrieve his stash, hidden in her apartment and return it to him at her office.

However, on the way back to Eddie, Lindy is intercepted en route by the man in the tan coat, and it becomes obvious that he is dangerous, as he gives chase to Lindy, killing two would-be saviors as she flees. Eddie by phone convinces her to take one of the pills, and Lindy makes a bold escape. Though Eddie is saved, Lindy is convinced that he will destroy himself because of NZT and breaks up with him again. He is contacted by ex-wife Melissa and learns that she had been an NZT addict. Worse, he learns that withdrawal from the drug causes major health and mental problems, possibly resulting in death. She warns Eddie to taper off the NZT before it is too late.

Gennady tries one of Eddie's pills, realizes the effects and threatens Eddie until he agrees to give him more NZT. Despite Melissa's warnings, Eddie manages his consumption of the drug down to an acceptable level, then uses his fortune to hire a scientist to work on reverse engineering NZT, a process that could take years.

He assists Carl on a corporate merger deal with rival businessman Hank Atwood (Richard Bekins). Before the deal can take place, Atwood falls ill. Noticing the man in the tan coat working with Atwood, Eddie realizes the man's true mission — to steal Eddie's stash of NZT for his boss, whose real illness is NZT withdrawal. The stash is stolen by Eddie's lawyer, Brandt (Ned Eisenberg), who is revealed to also be working for Atwood.

Eddie is followed home, but manages to kill Gennady and two thugs with intelligence gained from what he believes to be the last of the NZT, which he drank directly from the deceased Gennady's bloodstream. Atwood dies, Brandt having kept the NZT for himself. Eddie agrees to work with the man in the tan coat to retrieve his stolen NZT at Brandt's house.

One year later, Eddie's book has been published (titled Illuminating the Dark Fields — a reference to the novel on which the film is based), and Eddie is running for the United States Senate. In the midst of his campaign, Carl approaches Eddie with the revelation that he bought the company producing NZT and that the backroom NZT lab Eddie was financing has been shut down.

Carl offers him an unlimited supply of NZT (admitting that they both know he is headed for Presidency); however, Eddie must use his political position to push Carl's agenda in return. Eddie refuses, claiming that he no longer needs the drug: his prolonged use, he says, has allowed him to come off of the drug and has permanently enhanced his brain. The viewer is left to decide whether he's telling the truth or not.

(In the alternate ending available on DVD, Eddie still rejects Van Loon's proposal. But it is then revealed Eddie is not off NZT, and vows that he will find a way out, saying, "Isn't that what the pill does?")

It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing.

Soul Surfer is a 2011 Christian drama film about the life of surfer Bethany Hamilton. At the age of thirteen, Hamilton lost her arm to a shark attack. The film details the events surrounding this attack and her struggle during the aftermath. The film is directed by Sean McNamara, who based the screenplay on Hamilton's autobiography of the same name and on the filmmakers' interviews with the family. The title refers to a term coined in the 1960s to denote someone who surfs purely for pleasure, but the word soul has a double meaning as a reference to Hamilton's Christian faith, which helped her recover her surfing career after the attack. AnnaSophia Robb stars as Hamilton, and Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt star as Hamilton's parents.

Plans for a film existed since shortly after the shark attack on Hamilton in 2003 and her subsequent recovery. After several false starts to production, McNamara was attached to direct the film. While the film is based on Hamilton's 2004 biographical book, the director and producer David Brookwell interviewed the family to learn about unpublished conflicts to include in the film. Filming took place in Hawaii in early 2010, and Robb wore a green sleeve on her arm so visual effects could be added in post-production to create the appearance of a stump. Additional filming took place in Tahiti in August 2010.

FilmDistrict, which was launched in September 2010, formed a partnership with TriStar Pictures to release Soul Surfer in theaters. The company originally anticipated releasing the film in 300 theaters, but the company was impressed enough with the final product to pursue a release in 2,000 theaters. The film was released in theaters in the United States and Canada on April 8, 2011. This film was the debut of country pop singer Grammy-winner Carrie Underwood as an actress.
