According to the Ballard Blocks site plan, the international cosmetics store will be opening a new location in the corner retail space at 14th Ave NW and NW 46th St.

Sephora is currently hiring for a number of positions at the soon-to-open Ballard store. This will be their fourth Seattle location; there’s one store at the U-Village, one in South Lake Union, and another downtown.

A soft opening will be on April 19th, The grand opening will be on April 23rd. They will be giving away some special gifts during the grand opening. Ask for Eileen our certified beauty expert for colors, and skincare.

BE IN THE PARADE
Open registration coming soon, but in the meantime apply for a MCKAY GRANT! The Dave McKay Parade Art Grants support the development of art and performance for the Fremont Solstice Parade and the following Celebration at Gasworks Park. The grants provide design and creation funds for art projects which transform the street into theater with social commentary and the unexpected. This call is open to artists, individuals, groups or community organizations that would like to bring together an ensemble or movable piece for the Fremont Solstice Parade and Celebration. Grants up to $1,500 will be awarded. Proposals are due: April 5, 2019

BUILD THE PARADE
Send us your POSTER ART! We invite artists to submit designs for consideration for use in this year’s parade advertising. The successful artist will be awarded $250 honorarium for the design, a membership in the Fremont Arts Council, a profile on our website crediting you with the 2019 design; and the grand notoriety of your design representing this beloved Seattle event.

Based on forecasts from the National Weather Service and our partners at the City of Seattle, there is a high chance of significant snow and icy road conditions on Fri., Feb. 8 and Sat., Feb. 9.

Student and staff safety are our top priority. In an abundance of caution, students will be released 75 minutes early on Friday afternoon. Schools will follow a Wednesday class schedule. School will start at the regular time and transportation will run regular routes.

Additional details:

• All after school activities are cancelled on Fri., Feb. 8, including athletics. Please check the district’s athletic webpage and your child’s school website for additional information.
• Please check with your provider regarding childcare.
• All district events are cancelled for this weekend.

Next Week: The possibility of additional snow early next week is in the forecast. If additional schedule changes are needed, we will inform you through our regular district communication channels.

Scheduled activities:

11 am – 1 pm daily: Meet paleontologists and get a closer look at fossils being prepared in the Testing, Testing 1-2-3: Work in Progress paleontology labs

11:30 am daily*: Storytelling of “How Mouse Moved the Mountain.” Dec 29 & 30 only: activities led by special guest artist/storyteller, Ty Juvinel (Tulalip)

2 pm daily: “Tiny Talks” with Burke staff and volunteers about their latest research and recent (re)discoveries of stories revealed in the process of moving into the New Burke

Ongoing activities (10 am – 5 pm daily):

-Take part in culture, fossil and biology-themed crafts and hands-on activities for all ages
-Enjoy the Testing, Testing 1-2-3: Work in Progress exhibit along with the Burke’s long-term Life and Times of Washington State and Pacific Voices exhibits
-Add you own artistic contribution to a large-scale geologic timeline drawing created by artist Jed Dunkerley in the Burke Room
-Mark the occasion in the Burke Boiserie Photobooth and share your favorite memories in a special yearbook
