DJ Mushin was the one who showed him everything he needed to know to play music as a DJ. LEON BLAQ

Native New Yorker Leon Blaq is no stranger to the club scene. He is not new to the bright lights and late nights, but what is new is his voracious appetite for new sounds, often crossing genres and blurring the lines completely.
Internationally traveled, he has appeared behind the decks abroad at such venues as Cancun’s Club Sweet, and Loki Lounge in Toronto, jet setting all over North America. He has also rocked dance floors on American soil from New York to Miami. He has done Tiki Boat Parties in Florida and even appeared behind the decks at Club Mekka: Miami, courtesy of Nervous Records, and spun at New York City hallmarks such as Pacha, Webster Hall, Crobar, and Marquee. In addition he’s turned out crowds at various dance music events, such as the NYC dance parade, reverberating his unique sound through Bryant Park.
With massive labels stamped on his discography such as Nervous Records, Ggressive Recordings and Kult, he continually puts out track after track of quality grooves and genre-bending jams. Today he continually puts out quality productions and enslaves dancefloors wherever the music takes him.

DJ Jamal

It seems like everyone is a DJ these days, but what sets Jamal apart from the rest of his Toronto peers is his ability to transcend the mechanic nature of contemporary electronic music, and deliver a house set full of soul. This is the essence of house music. Blessed with the natural gift of sound, Jamal is also armed with 15 years of hands on experience in vinyl and digital, production and engineering, main room acoustics and event management. To be a true nightlife impresario, your DJ chops and technical knowledge can only take you so far. It requires modesty, dedication, charm and a willingness to learn from the advice of others. Always a maverick in his own right, Jamal credits nightlife legends like Alan T (MIA) and Shawn Riker (YYZ) for helping him in his journey. These qualities have earned Jamal the respect and camaraderie of many of his predecessors and colleagues. He is Toronto’s DJ ambassador. Jamal has had the opportunity to play alongside talents like Chus and Ceballos, Peter Rauhoffer, Junior Vasquez, Offer Nissim, Hex Hector, Honey Dijon, DJ Paolo and many others. With achievement also comes reward, and these rewards have included special engagements for DSquared, Beach Club (MTL) and Cyndi Lauper. His current list of residencies include UNITY nightclub (MTL), DramaQueen (MTL), FLY nightclub (YYZ), along with numerous weekly engagements all over Toronto and Montreal. A relentless desire to surpass his own standards has led Jamal to focus his energy on music production, with a new disco neo-soul inspired house album due out this year.

Cory Pinky Pereira

Cory Pereira, more famously known as Pinky, has been dj-ing house music for over nine years, ever since he was 15 years old. He was born in Portugal and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He started dj-ing house music in 2006 and ever since, has been going hard and strong. Before working together on tech house with Hugo, he had been a dirty dutch DJ, focusing on extreme dutch from Amsterdam which included heavy bass lines. Then in early 2011, he discovered that dutch wasn’t his scene anymore and decided to transform into tech house. He felt a certain attraction for tech house because of its similarity to dirty dutch’s heavy bass line. For the next couple years he is dreaming big, hoping to play tech house in many known venues. His influences for tech house and tribal are Victor Calderone, Carlo Lio, Chus&Ceballos and Mastiksoul. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, soccer and wakeboarding

AMBER LONG

In a relatively short time, Long’s career has smashed into over-drive, including two nominations at the Toronto Independent Music Awards in 2010, and performances that have scaled across North America‚ performing as far as New York City, Boston and Chicago. She maintains her name locally throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

With four, full length albums under her belt, the most recent, XXX, released October 10, 2010, was voted #5 in the Top 10 Albums of 2010, Indie Seen, Echo Weekly Magazine. Amber adds Producer, Creative Director, Author and Visual Artist, to her extensive resume, constantly honing her craft.

Currently releasing tracks on beatport.com, along with remixes, as she takes yet another different fork in the road.

MASON BACH

Trained in classical violin from the age of three and continuing to perform regularly throughout his university years, the foundation was created for a career as a Classical Musician. However, after obtaining a mismatched pair of turntables and a dusty crate of early 80’s Electro Pop and Classic house, his addiction to the rich sounds of Electronic Music was formed. Johnstone chose to further his understanding of the production process by obtaining an Audio Engineering and Technology diploma. Upon graduating, he has taken extensive post-graduate courses, specializing in the implementation of MIDI controllers and human interface design using Max/MSP allowing him to explore the endless capabilities of sound created through electronic circuitry and computers.

Composing music for Broadcast has proven an easy transition for Johnstone as his understanding of Music Theory and performance coupled with a deep understanding for the technical side of recording equipment and computer use have made taking the stage show to the studio a seamless move. In addition to composing for clients such as RIM, Cadillac, Buick, Avon, Keihls and Mclaren Group, he can be found on stage performing as a soloist Mason Bach fusing electronic music with live violin and electronic gadgetry as well as one half of electronic music duo Gridmode.

Like most DJs of his calibre, DJRYANL has always been passionate about music. At a young age he dove into the art form with infamous hip/hop mixtapes taking local house parties to the limit. At age 17 Ryan got his first taste of the afterhours scene and was taken to a new high with the sound of Trance. This fast paced electronic genre quickly led him deeper into the craft of developing sets and mixing music. With a diploma in computer engineering, Ryan quickly adopted the newly introduced digital mixing that was slowly making its mark on the scene. Apart from the unquenchable love for music, the electronic dance scene offered something that Ryan as a person and a dj truly believes in, a philosophy of open minded thinking. Influenced by such masters as Armin Van Buuren, and Ferry Corsten, RyanL knew hed found his home and occupation behind the decks and serving the dance floor.

It’s been nearly 7 years that Ryan has been taking his dj sets all over his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, through all the big and small venues the city has to offer. MTL & Co was the club that took Ryan under its wing and provided him his first residency but it wouldn’t be long until his skills were in high demand all over the city. Major events including Beach Club, Bomba Fashion show, and local celebrity afterparties such as that of Mario Lopez and Lady Gaga have all helped shape his experience. With Gigs in London, Amsterdam, Ibiza, Bangkok and Hong Kong under his belt, Ryan continues to evolve and incorporate new experiences and sounds into his own distinct sets. A member of the already renowned Sound Syndicate team, he currently holds a weekly residency with Guess Canada at one of their flagship locations as well as Peterboroughs Splice nightclub.

In 2010, Ryan will be spending time in Mexico shadowing two very prominent producers Ansuz & Kromatic as well as Vancouver to focus on working with another up and coming producer, Right Hand Barber. Always seeking out opportunities to take his talent to the level, keep your eyes and ears open for events and tours happening in these major cities as well as other stops around the globe.
