The Float Table

The Float Table does just that - float. Sixty-four cubes are arranged into a massive cube, with each individual piece magnetized so that they never touch each other. A hidden system of steel tables keeps the entire thing from falling apart. Not something you'd want to keep your laptop on, but it's a spectacular conversation piece, and a wonderful bit of design.

Reeling from the war, the UK rebuilt itself in the 1950s and 60s, right during the peak of Brutalist architecture, a movement that emphasized form and the use of poured concrete. Big and ugly by today's standards, these buildings cast a long shadow on the entire UK.
