This is because the lights are easy to use and rarely require any additional work to get them setup properly. In the past, many people had to wire their own metal halide lighting systems because they did not sell complete light fixtures like they do today.

Years ago, aquarists struggled to keep corals because the light was not intense enough. These new T5 bulbs are more intense than traditional bulbs and use significantly less power. The fixtures are extremely sleek and fit inside more aquarium canopies. Each bulb should last for about one year before it needs to be replaced.

When the light bulb becomes older, the color spectrum begins to shift. Although it is not apparent to the eye because the changes are so subtle, it will cause algae to grow in your aquarium. Another tip is if your light fixture is not working anymore, it might actually be a bad starter. This can be replaced in less than a minute and does not cost very much. Where as a new light can cost $20 to $50 depending on where you buy it. You can also reduce algae growth by having proper filtration and running your lights on a timer.
