Chatham rocks Hudson!!

We won against Hudson on Wednessday!! Our second singles couldn’t make the game so we all moved up a spot. I played second singles, which I was nervous about but… I won! I played 3 sets- my usual. The score was 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Interesting.

We play Ichabod on Monday. I’m so ready!

Last week we played Catskill, Maple Hill and Cairo. A pretty intense lineup. As a team we lost to Catskill 2-5. Second doubles won a great game. I won my singles match 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 tie break (8-6). The way scoring works in tennis, for those not familier, is you need to win best 2/3. To win a set, you need to be first to 6 but also win by 2 games. If the score is 5-5 you need to win 7-5. We also lost to Maple Hill 1-6…bummer. We played Cairo on Thursday and won. I had another intense game. I was down 1-5 (meaning the girl I was playing had to win one more game to win the set). Thankfully I won the set 7-5, which was amazing…haha. I won the second set 6-4. Even though we lost 3/4 of the games we played so far, everyone has been playing SO well.

Roger Federer just won the US Open!!! I was originally rooting for Roddick because he made huge improvement from last year, but he lost. Federer is a very impressive player. He is on his 12th Grand Slam title and doesnt have a coach. The women rocked also. I would rather have seen one of the Williams sisters win, but Justine Henin-Hardenne played some awesome tennis.

Today we played our first sectionals game against Albany Academy. They have a full team of outstanding players and are always a pleasure to play. I am 3rd singles and lost my first match against their 3rd singles player….pretty badly. Then I played an exhibition set against their 5th singles player and won 6-4. This game doesnt count for patroons and it is great practice for us all.

Just as everyone starts gearing up for the US Open, we start gearing up for our season! Coach Rosie is back and leading great practices. I can’t believe this is my last year playing highschool tennis, but I am so excited! Our first game is August 31… EARLY! I will probably be playing singles and I am a captain this year.

Sports Psycology

Hi everyone! So its been a while… and we’re in 2007! Junior year is pretty crazy- lots of tests, lots of work. BUT I’m doing well and I made the National Honor Society. So thats whats happening academically.

As for tennis, I practiced over the winter and I’ve been playing in gym class.

Tonight I attended a sports psycology presentation given by two speakers from UALBANY: Joyce Dewitt-Parker PhD and Joe Monserrat psyD. They told us how to improve our game mentally. I started thinking about it, and tennis really is…85-90% a mental game. They said that simple things, such as, concentration and visualization can make the difference between winning and losing. This is a great way to prepare for tennis when I can’t get to the court.

Today was the first full day of winter! FINALLY! As much as I miss not being able to play tennis in the fresh air in this season, its about time I get to snowboard!

I feel a little bit out of the tennis loop right now! Once the new year starts, I have to dig up some news on my favorite players to see what they’re doing this winter.

Tennis is over! We lost our team sectional game 3-4. It was am exciting season though! Varsity awards night was on Monday and I got the team spirit award. Great coach, great season! I’m going to miss the graduating seniors.

Our last show for Shakespeare and Company was last night at Founder’s Theater in Lennox. We had two shows at my school the week before. It was really fun! The crowd at Founder’s is so animated. About half of the audience are highschool actors from the other schools. The perfect finish to King Lear.

Cairo was insane! Carla and I almost tied the first set, then won the second set 6-2. Our team lost though, BUT we’re still second in patroons!!!!!!!! We have our team sectional game on Wednessday!

Coxsackie again

We played Ichabod and lost.. … there is always next year.

Today was Coxsackie again! We were back to our regular positions. Carla and I won 6-0 6-1. We have had a great season! One game left– Cairo on Tuesday.

Individual sectionals are October 18th- The same day as the PSAT!!!!! I hope I can work this out!

We played Coxsackie today! Three members of the team couldn’t come so we all were moved around. I ended up playing 5th singles and winning 6-2 6-1. YAY!!! It was awesome to play singles. Although we won Coxsackie gave us a run for our money! Some of the sets were really close. We play Ichabod on Monday!
