Edinburgh’s Cry and the Blocks:

Having been to several of their gigs now its fair to say Cry and the Blocks are doing the Edinburgh music scene proud. If your feet and mind aren’t having an audiogasum after hearing this tune then we think you need to get checked.

Walking down the street earlier, I passed a guy who unknowingly made my day. He was walking on his own, in his own little world, listening to his headphones. Unlike all the other faces I passed though, this guy had a huge grin on his face. Almost instantly, so did I.

There was nothing I could do about it either. Like yawning, smiling is infectious. Fact! I smiled for most of the rest of my journey, and I would like to think that at least one other person was infected my my smile.

So the next time you’re walking down the street, smile! Pay it forward, you just might make someones day that little bit brighter.

The State Of The Web

The web. www. It started out so well, being able to find anything in a matter of seconds. Whether you were writing an english essay for school or finishing your dissertation for astro physics, it could all be found on the web.

Like a snow ball the web started off simple and hand sized, it has now however rolled down your neighbors yard gaining momentum and size at a rate of which was once inconceivable. Everyone’s watching it roll past their bedroom window at a now unstoppable rate, it’s started to pick up small bits of grime, dead leaves and muddy water. It looks like poo.

The web has loads to offer, but as it’s grown it’s become tarnished. Most websites are crammed with adverts to the point where you can no longer differentiate between the content and the adverts. People statistically click on an advert more times by mistake than out of genuine interest. What Facebook is doing with their advertizing plan is very interesting. Non obtrusive, sometimes actually quite interesting because they are specific to your personality. Facebook can do these ‘clever ads’ because unlike most other sites they know who you are. Well, they use your ‘likes’ and interests to figure which adverts you would actually be interested in, anyway. So instead of adding a load of useless content about viagra and cheap cash Facebook gives you things it will know you will like. In my case, bikes and technology.

The featured image is something I stumbled across. It’s revolting. As websites have become easier to make (which is brilliant) they have also given birth to a new kind of site. One that has bad content, useless services and a shockingly poor user interface. Again cluttered with meaningless ads.

The solution?

Well I don’t really know. All I know is that I hope someone cleans up that huge grimy snowball that’s sitting on our lawn.

Art Attack

After watching the documentary ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ a while back, I was inspired by street art and the culture behind it. More specifically, I was captivated by the art work of Banksy. And yes, I hear you, so is the rest of the world. And for very good reason. Every piece he creates is both innovative and ingenious.

After checking out his website, I found this photo gallery noting stages of a turf feud between Banksy and another graffiti legend – Robbo, which was fascinating.

My favourite creation by Banksy, which is also happens to be one of his most iconic, is the one shown above. The imagery of the little girl and her heart shaped balloon is simple but also very striking. If I were ever to get a tattoo, it would be of that balloon. For some reason I always associate the piece with ‘Hermit the Frog’, by Marina and the Diamonds. Which just happens to be a belter of a tune, so have yourself a little listen!

Anyways, nowadays I’m a little obsessed with street art and have found myself looking at every street corner and letting my eye wander up every alleyway just to see if I catch some local graffiti art. And I’ve found a quite a bit of work by a local street artist who marks his work with the word ‘remote’. Unfortunately I’ve not had my camera with me any time I’ve caught a glimpse, but I pinky promise I will snap some photo’s for you and publish them soon, because they’re pretty damn cool.
