My Take:

Ahhh.. the teen years! Confusion, peer pressure, and hormones. Sounds like fun times.. NOT! Having daughters myself, I really absorbed this insightful and yes, humorous read. Being a Christian doesn't make you perfect. Instead, we strive for perfection within the boundaries and our own morals possible. Waiting for marriage isn't easy for anyone. However, with the help of God we can overcome relationship temptations.

This read is to-the-point on many different relationship scenarios and at the end of each chapter there is a quiz relevant to the topic discussed to help set your own boundaries and journal your thoughts.

Well written and a great incentive to save yourself for the "right" guy.

About the Author..

Bekah Hamrick Martin was born in Savannah, Georgia, in an event which her brother keeps reminding her was completely unnecessary. She spent the better part of her high school years vacationing on the north end of her mattress due to an illness, where she developed a deep taste for chocolate and sarcasm. My Take:

Tunnel of Gold is Book #2 in Susan K. Marlow's Historical Goldtown Adventure Series. Jem Coulter and his Pa are caught in the middle of a gold mine squabble. The Midas mine is in danger of shutting down unless they can find another viable vein within the abandoned mine of Belle. However, the Chinese Immigrants and Jem's best friend, Wu Shen are not about to give up their Belle digging rights.

Chad Carter is new to Goldtown and the son of one of the Investor's. He teaches Jem how to brand calves and in turn Jem teaches Chad how to pan for gold. As the ideas float around concerning how to build or find another air shaft Jem was confused with the strife going on between the townspeople. Tunnels are deepened and threats flare. Can Jem, Will, Chad, and their friends ultimately save the mine and the town or is it a risk that will turn Goldtown into rubble?

Another well-written Christ-centered read for Tweens!

My Take:

My Take:

Susanna Truitt has had a horrible day after losing her boyfriend of 12 years to another woman and getting a flat tire isn't helping to lift her spirits in the least. She spots a vehicle approaching and little does she know this is the change she really deserves. Nate steps out of his SUV and offers to help her fix the tire.

"Nate"- Nathaniel, who is to be the Prince of Brighton is vacationing at his family's cottage on St. Simons Island. He's able to keep his true identity from Susanna for quite some time, and when she finds out she is obviously upset that he would keep this from her.

When Nate's father turns for the worse and is dying of leukemia, he must accept the responsibility bestowed upon him. Can his faith guide him down the right path? Will Susanna be able to forgive him and allow him in her heart?

This heartfelt modern day Cinderella story will keep you turning the pages and rooting for the couple.

There’s even a convicted murderer and a cat aboard. Absolutely no one chosen for this mission has any sort of astronaut training or experience. And worst of all, the project director’s agenda appears to be making sure that the ship and all aboard never return to Earth.

It’s a conspiracy that leaves these lost souls stranded in a strange galaxy with a damaged ship surrounded by threats both human and alien. Even if this group worked together and managed to survive, could they – would they – return to the uncaring world that sent them to space to die? With the alternative looking exceedingly grim, the journey of Status Quo seems doomed. Or is it?

My Take:

Alex Copeland, currently a high school teacher is offered a fantastic opportunity to travel with a small crew into outer space to investigate a mysterious wormhole presumed to have been created by an alien species.

The crew to say the least, isn't one he would have chosen for a mission such as this. Could he trust any of them to do the research that was needed when they all carried such mental baggage of one kind or another. What were their real intentions? Would this thick green fog prove to be the last thing they'll ever see or will they return as heroes?

Despite all the obstacles, Planet Copeland changes all of the crew in ways unimaginable. This fast-paced thriller will keep you turning the pages and it's definitely for the Sci-Fi enthusiast with all the "Area 51" secrets thrown in. The language is a bit in the gray area. However, fitting for this read.

About the Author..

Mark Rosendorf's writing is based on the personalities and experiences he has come across throughout his life, coupled with his own wild "if only I could do that" imagination.

Born November, 25th, 1974, and raised in Queens New York, Mark now holds a Masters Degree from Long Island University's Human Development and Leadership program. He is a licensed guidance counselor for the special education district of the New York City Department of Education. He began his counseling career in September, 2001.

Mark has worked with special needs inner-city students of various age groups, many of whom show a lack of impulse control and exhibit anti-social tendencies. For some, their ability to keep their inhibitions in check is difficult without help and assistance.

Mark is also a professional magician. He uses magic and Illusion to help focus his students on their behavior and scholastics in the school environment.

Prior to this, Mark worked in the hotel industry in guest services. Throughout his life, Mark has always had a detailed imagination and he has dreamed of becoming a published fiction writer. With a second book on the way, he now gets to live out his dream and share it with the world.

Mitch enlists the help of their next-door neighbor, Jill's best friend, Shelley, and together they search for clues to Jill's disappearance. As days turn into weeks and weeks into months, Mitch and Shelley's friendship grows ever closer--and decidedly complicated with Jill as the tie that binds them together. Just when Shelley decides to finally reveal her feelings for Mitch, a clue to Jill's whereabouts is uncovered. But every lead seems to be a dead end, and Mitch wonders how he can honor the vows he made to a woman who has seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth.

My Take:

Jill Brannon mysteriously disappears on her way home from a conference and her husband Mitch increasingly becomes worried as the hours pass and his wife still hasn't arrived home. After the hours then days pass, Mitch involves Jill's best friend, Shelley in the vigorous search.

Can Mitch keep his emotions in check? Can both of them keep a relationship at bay out of respect for Jill? It's a complicated situation. One which Mitch will ultimately have to come to terms with.

This captivating page-turner will keep you on the edge until the very end.

About the Author..

Deborah Raney is the award-winning author of several novels, including "A Nest of Sparrows" and the RITA award winning "Beneath a Southern Sky" and its sequel, "After the Rains". Deborah's first novel, "A Vow to Cherish", was the inspiration for World Wide Pictures' highly acclaimed film of the same title, which in December 2004 aired on prime time network TV for the second time. I especially took heart to the contribution by Christina J. Hunt. While crying and approached by her son, he asked, "Mom, Why are you crying all the time? What is wrong with you?" She replied, "I am tired, and at the end of my rope?" He sweetly questioned "Do you know what I do when I am at the end of my rope?" "I climb!" God does speak to us in many ways, but none more precious or moving, then when spoken through a child.

My Take:

Petey befriends a small town minister Jake Wilkerson. When Petey's wounded paw needs attention, they pay a visit to the local veterinarian who catches the eye of Jake. However, she isn't the nicest person around. Jake is determined to see the best in her and they go on a few dates. Is this the woman he will spend the rest of his life with? Only Petey can help connect these two different souls.

When Tassy, a young runaway with a secret ends up at the church looking for a safe shelter the townspeople help her to find work while Petey also takes her under his paws.

This feline touches the lives of everyone he encounters in unexpected ways. If you've ever had a cat, you know how independent and curious they are, Petey was no different. You will enjoy reading his perspective on all the people his life intertwines with.

My Take:

Mary Fassler's grief over losing her husband has sadly consumed her life. Longing for companionship, she adopts the runt of a litter and names her Miniature Schnauzer Rufus. They go on nightly walks where they both talk to one another and become inseparable. Rufus told Mary he has a close bond to God, and he strives to get Mary moving forward in life, where she can find true happiness.

You will enjoy the heartwarming journey these two take side-by-side.

* hummingbirds can beat their wings up to 80 times a second during normal flight and up to 200 times per second during a courtship dive.

* the hummingbird has a heart rate that can reach up to 1,260 beats per minute.

* percentage wise, the hummingbird has the largest brain of all birds (4.2% of its total body weight).

* hummingbirds have very weak feet and use them mainly just for perching.

My Take:

This is the first book in the Postcards from Misty Harbor series.

Their mother had always loved Misty Harbor Inn and now with her passing, The three sister's Caroline, Gracie and Sam decide to renovate and run the B&B themselves. With all the history surrounding the Inn, they make an alarming discovery when they run across some old postcards. They uncover that a young widow, Hannah Montague, who was the original owner mysteriously disappeared in 1880.

As with any family, each has their own ideas of how things should be run, along with past feelings that need to be addressed. Along the way they learn to work together successfully and bond in ways not expected.

Grab a glass of iced tea and feel the seaside breeze brush against your face... A heartwarming and nostalgic read for your early Summer!

Empire of the Sun is a 1987 coming of age war film based on J. G. Ballard's semi-autobiographical novel of the same title. The film tells the story of Jamie "Jim" Graham, a young boy who goes from living in a wealthy British family in Shanghai, to becoming a prisoner of war in Lunghua Civilian Assembly Center, a Japanese internment camp, during World War II.

Tora! was the winner of the 1970 Academy Award for Best Special Effects, and was nominated for four more Oscars, including Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound. The film is a dramatization of the days leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and the event which signaled America’s official entry into WWII.

1998’s The Thin Red Line marked Terrence Malick’s return to filmmaking after a 20-year hiatus. The film is based on the novel of the same name by James Jones, and it tells a fictional story of the Battle of Mount Austen in World War II. It portrays soldiers of C Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. The film was nominated for an outstanding seven Academy Awards.

Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 film set during the invasion of Normandy in World War II. The film is highly lauded for its graphic and realistic portrayal of war, specifically the opening 27 minutes, which
depicts the Omaha Beach assault on June 6, 1944. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, and won five of them, including Best Director.

My Take:

Felicity is studying abroad in Wales when she finds herself and her fiance' Father Antony wrapped up in more than they bargained for. Hwyl Pendry, a former student and "was" the Deliverance Minister is dead at their feet. Labeled as a suicide, they soon find out that may not be the case.

As they take it upon themselves to help solve this mystery, they run across valuable archives, evil lurking about, spiritual intensity, and a bewitching lead.

This book is filled with intense descriptions of the area and religion, so much so, that in my opinion takes away from the flow of the storyline. If you can get past that, the meat of this mystery is intriguing.

She has twice won first place in the Historical Fiction category from the National Association of Press Women, and has also been a finalist for "Best Inspirational Novel" from the Romance Writers of America.
