Q&A: Adam X On Being Known As A Producer Instead Of A DJ, The Importance Of Mixing It Up, And Berlin’s Energy

Born Adam Mitchell in Coney Island, Brooklyn, techno and industrial producer Adam X was one of the key architects of the early ’90s New York rave scene. With his older brother, Frankie Bones—who famously brought the British rave template to Brooklyn, throwing parties in old warehouses and other out-of-the-way venues—Adam X was part of the Storm Rave crew, and the day-to-day manager of Groove Records in Brooklyn, the first all-techno record store in the U.S.

By the end of the ’90s, Adam was an established rave headliner and, thanks to his hard acid and furious techno track making (see 1992’s “Lost in Hell”) and DJing (the 1999 mix Wax Trax MasterMix Volume 2).

They were used to layer over live electronics and are all interlocking pieces that were constructed to be played back to back. They have now been reclaimed from the earlier decoy release * ,re- mastered and arranged in the order they appeared on the original dub plates.”

And at the very core of the band, there is still a deep love for techno, shamanism, cyberspace, magick, the beautiful, and the bizarre. The faces may have changed over the years, but the motivation to “make the events occur that we want to occur” has always been the same. To us, there are definite threads of continuity. We don’t doubt that some people have been put off by the new sound and the harder edge. No disrespect to them, but as we said above, we’re not about doing the same thing forever and ever and ever.”

This track is from the third vinyl I recorded. The ‘A’ side was composed with Si Begg at the Sussex Electronic Music studio in summer 1993 - it was released from the UK as unmarked green vinyl in early 1994, on a sublabel of Ferox called Berlin.

I thinks its amazingly talented music-archeology for someone to find this, identify it, and upload to YouTube! Good work cuchulainn187
