A date to remember and plan for is the third Sunday Luncheon in September.  This luncheon will be sponsored by the “children” which really means you!  We will be responsible for setting up the fellowship hall, and providing the meat for the meal so I will be asking for donations to buy that.  This will be an important Sunday because we will focus on getting volunteers for the year for the children’s ministries and programs.  It will take all of us to set up and work the luncheon, so please mark this on your calendar now and plan to attend and help!

Saturday August 29th was a great day for the youth group, but not for the Texas Rangers!  The youth left the church at 1:30 and got to The Rangers Ballpark in Arlington around 4:00 for a concert by MercyMe.  During the concert, Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton shared from his heart what he answered in a recent interview for ESPN the Magazine.  The question was asked of him, “What are the top 5 things in your life.”  He answered, “1. God, 2. Humility, 3. Family, 4. Sobriety, 5. Baseball.  He has been open about his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction and how he has found strength through faith in Christ.  He also commented that originally he had family in the #2 spot, but then realized if he didn’t have humility before God as a person, then nothing else would be in its proper place.  After the concert and mini-sermon, we went to watch the ball game where the first-place Rangers (who had a 9 1/2 game leade in the AL West) got routed by pitcher Dallas Braden who pitched a 4-hit shutout.  Here are some pictures from all the fun! After Labor Day, FUMC will kick off the new school year right with revival services lead by United Methodist evangelist and entertainer, Wesley Putnam.  Here is a little bit about Mr. Putnam as posted on his website wesleyputnam.org.

“He’s a United Methodist minister. A full-time evangelist. A musician, dramatist and storyteller. A man whose ministry crosses denominational and state lines. Most of all, he’s a believer who wants to glorify God and build up the Kingdom.

Wesley is involved in the church. He has served as president and executive director of the National Association of United Methodist Evangelists. He has also been active as a representative on the Council of Evangelism of the South Central Jurisdiction.

Wesley has been honored by his peers in receiving the Philip Award, and the Denman award for his work in evangelism.

Wesley is a family man. He and his wife, Felicia, live in Bedford, Texas. Their three adult sons are involved in ministry, too. When not on the road, you can usually find Wes doting over his young grandsons.”

Mr. Putnam will be preaching in both services on Sunday morning, September 12 with evening services beginning at 7:00 that evening and each subsequent night through Wednesday, September 15.  In addition to the regular services, he will be leading a kids program called Bible Quest for kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade.  The Bible Quest program will be at 6:00 each night prior to the main service time at 7:00.  Please clear your calendar for these exciting four days in the life of our congregation!
