75 historic race cars will be displayed in front of the Fairmont Hotel in the biggest free car show of its kind in America.

The California Mille salutes Italy’s famed Mille Miglia (thousand mile) race that ran from l927-1957. Cars from all over the world and the U.S. that could have qualified for the original Italian event will line Mason Street between Sacramento and California Streets.

On April 30, the Mille cars will depart at 8:45 AM for a four-day, thousand-mile back roads drive celebrating the Italian race.

The Paradiso Lounge will host three bands in three genres with great overlap all in one night.

My Empty Phantom are from Austin, Texas, the huge wall of noise from Moonbell of San Francisco, and the epic sounds of Broken Cities from Oakland.

Join Indre Viskontas (soprano), Lux Brahn (clarinet) and Ian Scarfe (piano) at Cafe Royale for an intimate evening of classical and contemporary music.

The concert features works for soprano, clarinet and piano by Louis Spohr, Franz Schubert and Daniel Felsenfeld. Come and hear the trio before they head up to Northern California for a concert tour in Trinity County in support of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival.

An open mic will follow, so bring your scribbles and your instruments and show off what you’ve got.

Les Gottesman‘s first published poems were in Ted Berrigan’s C magazine in 1965. More recently, his poems have appeared in Juked, Beatitude, Harper’s,Antioch Review, and Columbia Review. Les has been a teacher and political activist in San Francisco for over 30 years.

Bill Crossman is a poet, jazz pianist/composer, human rights activist, professor, and author. “John Brown’s Truth,” a musical theater piece he created which includes his poetry, will be performed in 2012 in the Bay Area. At Bird & Beckett, Bill will be reading new poems from his Sound Ground: Poems for the Years Since 9/11.

World renowned author and artist Edward Gorey (1925-2000) was born on February 22, 1925. In celebration of the anniversary of his birth, the Cartoon Art Museum Bookstore will host a special evening of Gorey-themed entertainment.

Cakes and refreshments will be provided, and visitors will enjoy mysterious interpretations from the Fantod Deck. There will be joyous readings from Gorey’s unique books and a special presentation by Gorey’s New England neighbor and fellow playwright Carol Verburg. Ms. Verburg will be signing copies of her books Edward Gorey Plays Cape Cod and Croaked: An Edgar Gorey Cape Cod Mystery.

The 3rd annual program begins with a potluck dinner so bring a dish to share.
