I'll be singing in the sunshine,
Wild and free,
Playing tag with the wind,
While I'm waiting for thee.

The Comfort and Sweetness of Peace
After the clouds, the sunshine,
after the winter, the spring,
after the shower, the rainbow,
for life is a changeable thing.

After the night, the morning,
bidding all darkness cease,
after life's cares and sorrows,
the comfort and sweetness of peace.

As they once held mine
So strong and sure
Hands that helped through my life
So beautiful and pure.
The hands that held me gently as I was born
Your hands that lead me to Australia's distant shores
The hands that guided mine
As we fed the swan's so black.
The hands that lovingly rolled the pastries for us to share
Your hands that comforted me and gently stroked my hair.
Your hands that planted sunflowers that grew so bold and tall
The hands that taught me how to skim stones across the surface of Metung's shore
Your hands that cast a reel for fish in Lang Lang and more.
The hands that cut and twisted lead for my windows clear
Your hands that locked in mine to help me to the alter dear.
The hands that lovingly cradled your grandchildren over and over again
Your hands that photographedeach special moment then.
Hands that pruned the fruit trees a litttle too much
The hands that waved to greet us with quiet grace and fuss
Your hands that held the winning cards when we'd play
The hands that pointed out the boats sailing in the bay.
Your hands that guided me
All through my life
Will never be forgotten
Their gentleness and loving touch
I long to feel again.
Your loving hands are resting now
They've worked so long and hard.
You've earned your peace and serenity
And thank you Dad
For all these gifts
Your hands have given me.

Suicide

Funeral Poems : Suicide Poems

Funeral poems for suicide victim.

If someone has committed suicide, it is always difficult to know what to say.

This poem has been written as a funeral poem for someone who has committed suicide.

Funeral Poem - Suicide Poems:

No one knew the torment,
That you were going through;
We only kept on seeing
What we really wanted to.

We saw the outward smile,
But not your inner pain;
We never really dreamt,
That you would never smile again.

Forgive us if we failed to see,
What we could do to aid;
Or if we failed to comprehend,
How much you were afraid.

We pray your mental anguish,
Will now forever cease;
And that your deep anxieties,
Will be replaced by peace.

We know your pain invaded,
Every single thought you had;
It made you cry internally,
And deeply, deeply sad.

But we in turn remember,
The good times, not the bad;
We remember when you smiled at us,
And not when you were sad.

So when we think about your life,
We won't dwell upon its close;
We'll remember all the good times,
And forget about life's blows.

We'll remember all the happiness,
The joy and not the tears;
The assurance and the confidence,
And not irrational fears.

Our lives have all been better,
Because you have been there;
So now we leave your memory,
In God's all-loving care.

Alzheimer's

If someone has had Alzheimer's it is always difficult to know what to say at their funeral. My hope is, that the following funeral poem for someone with Alzheimer's, will help you to remember them when their mind was fit and well. This Alzheimer funeral poem concentrates on the long period of life prior to the onset of the disease, rather than the relatively short period of time following the onset of Alzheimer's - Dick Underwood 2010

You didn't die just recently,
You died some time ago.
Although your body stayed a while,
And didn't really know.

For you had got Altzheimer's,
You failed to comprehend.
Your body went on living.
But your mind had reached its end.

So we've already said, "Goodbye",
To the person that we knew.
The person that we trully loved,
The person that was, "You".

And so we meet again today,
To toast your bodies end.
For it was true and faithful,
Until right at the end.

And so, when we remember,
We'll think of all the rest.
We'll concentrate on earlier,
And remember all the best.

For in the real scheme of things,
Your illness wasn't long.
Compared to all the happiness,
You brought your whole life long.

We think of you as yesterday,
When you were fit and well.
And when we're asked about you,
It's those things that we'll tell.

And so we meet in 'membrance,
Of a mind so fit and true.
We're here to pay our last respects
To say that, "We love you".

If you have a relative who has Alzheimer's you may find the following links helpful:

USA Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research in the USA.

UK Alzheimer's Society. The Alzheimer's Organisation is the leading UK care and research charity for people with this disease and other dementias, their families and carers.

The above funeral poem, ‘Alzheimers‘, has been written for those celebrating the life of someone whose body outlived their mind.

I have also written the funeral poem, ‘The Mind Is Well’, as the other side of the coin, for those celebrating the life of someone whose mind outlived their body.

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway
and thoughts a memory lane
I'd walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again
No Farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why.

My heart's still active in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one can ever know.
But now I know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store.

Since you'll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today
A hallowed place within my heart
Is where you'll always stay.

God knows why, with chilling touch,
Death gathers those we love so much,
And what now seems so strange and dim,
Will all be clear, when we meet Him.
I Knew you for a Moment

Funeral Poems For Mum

Funeral Poems For Mum

We have a large selection of funeral poems for mum on this website, all of which can be freely used or adapted.

Funeral poems for a mother can encompass many facets of a mothers life. Caring for babies, coping with toddlers, dealing with teenagers, supporting young or middle aged adult children. There is so much to thank a mother for, and you may need a funeral poem to celebrate one aspect of someone's life, or to celebrate a whole lifetime's achievement.

Many of the poems on this site can be adapted or used to celebrate motherhood, but some have been specifically written with motherhood in mind.

Funeral Poems For Mum

One of the poems on this website that has proved to be one of the most popular for a mother's funeral is the one that's entitled "What Is A Mum"

It describes a mum as one of life's best gifts, someone to be treasured, someone caring and loving, thoughtful and true, someone who always has your best interests at heart.

I guess, for a mother, that's the bottom line. As children we may not always appreciate it when she says, "No", or when she disciplines us with a sharp word. But deep down, we know that she has our best interests at heart, and that she often pursues those best interests even when it's sometimes not in her best interest to do so. In other words, a mother puts her children first, before everything else, and as we grow older we appreciate this more and more.

Funeral Poems For Mum

So what are the best funeral poems for mum? One that expresses her character, expresses who she was and her caring and loving nature. But also a poem that expresses our appreciation and thanks for the mother she has been.

God saw you getting tired
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"

With tearful eyes we watched you
hard working hands at rest.
