The Funkdawgs are five jazz musicians who create music online from various locations around the globe. It's a pleasure to present this playalong cd for Saxophone Journal. Funkdawgs have a unique twist however in that all the recording process is done via the Internet and no two musicians were in the same room at the same time. This collection of tune is intended to give any level of player, from beginner to advanced, the opportunity to concentrate on their sense of timing and groove. By keeping the tunes in relatively easy keys and using pretty straight ahead chord changes, any saxophonist can have some fun playing with a dynamite rhythm section...

Over the past five years the Funkdawgs have released two internationally-respected and well-received independent albums, Borderless and Dawgma, but had never met face-to-face. That’s because the Dawgs all connect, create, contribute and produce their music via the Internet…sending self-recorded WAV files to each other as their songs are developed.
Dream became true last April 2006 when FUNKDAWGS played live for the first time at Gibson Showcase Lounge in Nashville TN (USA). On main site www.funkdawgs.com click on live section to reach the video with some shots of their live performance at Gibson Showcase... 17 minutes of video there for you to see you favourite DAWGS playing together for the first time... after few hours of rehearse... finally together on stage. We hope this was the first of several future appereances.

INTERNET FUNKDAWGS COME ALIVE

Imagine a band recording 2 albums and never having met person to person. That's exactly what the Funkdawgs band did. With musicians all over the world that hooked up on the mp3.com site these stellar players recorded a jazz R&B funky sound that is out of this world. The group was formed in 2001 and have release two internationally-acclaimed independent albums, BORDERLESS (2003) and DAWGMA (2005).
These stellar players met in person for the first time to reharse for their first live gig on April 1st at the Gibson Showcase Club in Nashville USA. World’s First Virtual Jazz-Funk Band The Funkdawgs To Experience Reality with Visit to Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee (February, 2006) – Without an actual physical presence since they were formed in 2001, the Funkdawgs, the first virtual jazz-funk band on the planet, are coming together for the very first time in Nashville the last week in March culminating with a concert on Saturday, April 1st at the Gibson Showcase Lounge.

The Funkdawgs are five talented, innovative jazz musicians who have gained years of experience, both in the studio and on stage, and still feel the need to create from their various locations around the globe. The Funkdawgs feature guitarist Bobby Brewer from Nashville, drummer Filippo Bertacche from Vicenza, Italy; saxophonist Bob Johnson from Ottawa, Canada, bassist Bill Lawrence from Albany, New York; and keyboardist Kyle Whitlock from Columbia, South Carolina.

Over the past five years the Funkdawgs have released two internationally-respected and well-received independent albums, Borderless and Dawgma, but have never actually met face-to-face. That’s because the Dawgs all connect, create, contribute and produce their music via the Internet…sending self-recorded WAV files to each other as their songs are developed.

Their musical influences range from funk to fusion to soul jazz to blues to Latin jazz to acid. It’s a heady mixture of rhythms and melodies that breath new energy into today’s world jazz scene.

For their Nashville get-together two major activities are planned. First, an opportunity to finally meet, rehearse and play together. Second, the chance to perform live as a band and video record their concert at the Gibson Showcase Lounge.
