Dr. Jonathan Koh, known for his forward‑thinking approach and deep commitment to community engagement, was the driving force who brought the symposium to life. Koh recognized that the Spread NED movement — rooted in survivorship, storytelling, and solidarity — had the potential to create a meaningful impact far beyond campus. He personally invited leaders from across the region, ensuring that voices representing pediatric, adult, and rare cancers were included. His vision was simple: create a space where people could share their journeys and feel supported, understood, and uplifted.

Under Koh’s guidance, the symposium became more than a panel discussion. It became a healing space. Attendees described the event as “powerful,” “moving,” and “a reminder of what community truly means.” Stories of resilience echoed throughout the room, each one different yet connected by the same thread of courage.

Working alongside him was Athletic Director Cara Crosslin, whose leadership and heart were evident in every detail of the day. What makes this series especially meaningful is Mr. Short Game’s long history with Future Champions Golf. Years ago, he spent many weekends caddying for his own children at Future Champions Golf tournaments, creating family memories and watching junior golfers grow through competition.

One of the simplest habits I try to teach junior golfers is this:

Bring a towel to the green every single hole.

It sounds small, but this is one of those habits that separates organized, disciplined players from the ones who are always a little unprepared and a little rushed.

Clean Ball = Better Putting

A dirty golf ball will not roll the same as a clean golf ball.
It might bounce, skid, or come off the putter face inconsistently. If you’re trying to become a great putter, you should never hit an important putt with a dirty ball.

Tour players clean their ball almost every green. There’s a reason.

If you want to play college golf or high-level junior golf, you should start building the same habits now.

It’s Really About Discipline

This isn’t just about the golf ball.
This is about routine and discipline.

Great players are organized.
They do the same things over and over.
They don’t rush.
They don’t forget things.
They look prepared.
They act prepared.

When a player walks to the green with:

• Putter
• Towel
• Sometimes wedge if needed

You can already tell they are thinking ahead and managing the course well.

Build a Green Routine

Here’s a simple routine I recommend:

When you walk to the green:

1. Bring your putter and towel (and wedge if you might chip).
2. When you mark your ball, clean it immediately.
3. Look at your putt from behind the ball and behind the hole.
4. Take your practice strokes.
5. Step in and commit.

Do this every hole, every round, every tournament.
Consistency creates confidence.

Small Habits Become Big Results

A lot of players think improvement comes from:

• New swing tips
• New clubs
• More range balls

But a lot of improvement actually comes from:

• Better routines
• Better decisions
• Better discipline
• Being more organized on the course

Bringing a towel to the green every hole is a small habit that builds discipline, routine, and professionalism.

And the players who look and act like good players…
usually become good players.

How to Use Live Scoring

Please read the instructions below before arriving at the tournament so scoring runs smoothly.

BEFORE THE EVENT

1. Download the Future Champions Golf App in the App Store or Google Play.
2. Make sure your phone is fully charged for the round.

(Players will enter scores hole-by-hole during the round through the app.)

CHECK-IN FOR LIVE SCORING

• You will receive a Check-In Code via email.
• Open the Future Champions App
• Enter the Check-In Code to access your digital scorecard
• You can check in the day before or the day of the round only.

ENTERING SCORES DURING THE ROUND

• One player in each group should enter scores for the entire group.
• Enter scores immediately after each hole is completed.
• Confirm scores with your group before entering.
• At the end of the round, players will head to scoring area to finish scoring and sign official scorecards as normal

Live scoring allows leaderboards to update automatically as scores are entered.
