Attack that Dust and Grime and Grease!

A week ago I covered heat as a long term threat to your collection, at the suggestion of a friend I’m now going to move on to a far more common subject. Taking ‘regular’ care of your collection, because after all, if you’re like me you don’t have everything sealed up behind a glass case where dust can’t get to it, so time and time again you’ll find that there’s an additional level of unwanted detail added to your figs - mainly pollen, dust, and other such nonsense. They can mar the beauty of your collection to say the least, and really just looks dirty overall.

There are both simple and complicated ways of keeping your figurines clean from a sort of ‘day to day’ method to even more intense washes. Whatever the case may be, it’s important to always be gentle with the figurines, on not just a physical and chemical level, but also temperature wise. Read on if you wish, fellow collectors, this post is for you!

Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière

wow that’s a mouthfull…

Little Devil Ver.

“Muri.”

It was Louise’s favourite way to put a rather acute speed bump in a coversation. She was small in stature but she had this viciously defiant look in her eyes all the time, like she was always on the defensive. She could be so demure if she wanted to be but I suppose she felt she needed to prove something. Whatever I was in the process of thinking of gets interrupted again as she lifts her leg, “It’s useless for you to fight against this. You’ll just have to learn to do it right.” She was referring to the stocking… somewhere along the way Saito must have gone for a vacation… or maybe he went to the winter palace with Henrietta for a little rest as a reward for his valiant fight against Tristain’s enemies.

Whatever the case was… dealing with her was a handfull…

“It’s not on right. Heel has to fit in and the line goes up the side of the leg. Understand?” A tap atop the head from that crop serves as some sort of light repimand. I can’t shake the feeling I’m the ‘uke’ in this crazy arrangement, but at least she’s not giving full out swats… so I start again. She didn’t seem as aggressive as she was with Saito, I guess that’s how I know she liked him so much, and somewhere along the way I even get a compliment, “… mn … at least you pay attention when you do things. You’ll be an adequate replacement for now.”

I mumble “Thanks” under my breath, the ‘I guess’ that should go along the end of that was implied. She knew that and I knew that, then again, that’s what I get for losing a bet with Kirche and Montmonrency, five more days of this… this is only the first morning. It could be worse, Louise was cute when she wanted to be… she was intelligent if brash. And I get to know the color and cut of her panties - I could sell that later.

Discreetly of course.

SUN draws near! Command?

There’s little doubt that Figure collection is one of the many pulses of Otaku life to have a finger on. It’s an expensive hobby to say the least but it is one of the most rewarding in a roundabout way. What new figure collectors, and even some veterans of the ‘figure scene’ sometimes forget is that there are elements and forces that act against them in sometimes subtle and sometimes vulgar ways.

In this post I’ll be covering some common ‘oops’ factors and also some not so common worries about PVC figures and how things like heat, leaning, gravity and even photoshooting can lead to figurine damage. My aim is to both refresh my own memory and keep others from having woes with their collection.

What I am about to run through in this post doesn’t apply to ALL figures. Older figures tend to have more problems than newer figures but it stands to be said that not all figures are created equal; each figure batch are created with different injection mixtures which can lead to different results in the end run. When figures are cast, a number of things can come into play including mixture, ‘cook’ time (not actual cooking), which I can confirm through personal experience that sometimes even different runs of the same figure from the same manufacturer from the same point of sale can have different expectancies and resistance.

In short, even if I warn that ‘x’ could happen, doesn’t mean it will always be that way, but it’s good to be cautious with such an investment.

If this starts getting long, I’ll probably break it down into separate posts over a day or two. There is much to cover! On to the first enemy, and that’s one that roughly half the world is about to encounter… Summer (with it’s super hero sidekick: HEAT)!

Summer Loves your Figures…

…but your figures hate summer.

Going to shamelessly follow in the footsteps of Super_Rats by making a sort of fanfic entry for the figure! His write ups kicks ass!

“Goshujin-sama… we are waiting for your order.” She had this direct and strong edge to her words even if her voice was as delicate as her features. Leaning forward ever-so-slightly and clutching that tray against her lap kind of makes me wonder how many people would have used the cliche line ‘I’ll have you!’ in the past. While the thoguht crossed my mind, I wasn’t going to say that, not unless I wanted tray splinters in my forehead…

She leaned in a little further, lips pursing together as I scanned the menu. I couldn’t help but my concentration break a good three or four times as I kept mumbling ’something sweet, something sweet’ to myself… there was indeed something sweet about a bodyhugging swimsuit, stockings, long wrist-bind gloves and a maid’s apron all rolled up into one lovely package. She probably noticed, given the little breath the used to clear her throat. “Cotton candy icecream sunday… choco-sauce and such…” closing my eyes and taking a breath, I hand the laminated menu back to her just before adding, “I’ll let you choose any other toppings.”

Her mouth was open - but I answered her question before she asked. There’s a smirk that crosses her lips and a certain, special ‘bounce’ to her as she bows in deep and quick before standing up straight. “Hai hai… yorokonde.” she responds in the classic waitress way, but there’s a distinct twinkle in her eye as she turns around and leads away to the counters. I get this sudden feeling of dread as I can’t help but think what kind of monstrousity of a dessert she will punish me with for coping those stares…

…I’ll definately have to come back to this cafe again…
