Fort Wayne brides and grooms often ask about how much time they should plan for their ceremony. Many factors go into planning a wedding. Here are some questions and helpful answers about the length of your ceremony.

How much time is needed before walking down the aisle? If you want to “walk down the aisle” (this is called the processional) at 4:30 P.M., the prelude music should start thirty minutes before that time. This gives guests enough time to sign the guest book and find a seat before the beginning of the Seating of the Mothers.

How long is a typical wedding ceremony? This depends on whether you are holding your ceremony in a church or alternate location. A Catholic Full Mass service may take up to an hour or more. For other church denominations, you’ll want to ask your minister, pastor, or rabbi the average time for a ceremony. A civil service performed by a judge may take as little as 10 minutes (including your processional and recessional).  When you are working with a Megasound Officiant, the average ceremony time is between 10-20 minutes. You have more flexibility with your ceremony and music content when you hold your ceremony outside of a church. Keep in mind though that a 40 minute ceremony in the blistering sun isn’t pleasant for you or your guests. The length of a ceremony also fluctuates with the number of traditions, prayers, and readings as well. Other factors to consider are whether you will have your Officiant perform your ceremony solo (only person presenting the ceremony) or whether you will have others performing readings, presentations, or songs during your ceremony.

 How long are you allowed to stay at the ceremony location for pictures? Some local parks (and other facilities) book in two hour increments. If possible, you may consider booking your ceremony area for longer than actually needed so you are not rushed after your nuptials. Some churches only schedule one event each weekend while others offer Saturday evening services. You may have to be completely out of your ceremony location by a particular time.

How long will your photographer need to complete the shots you want after your ceremony? Each photographer is different, so discuss the photo list and your allotted time frame early in your planning process. Ask that as many pictures as possible be taken before walking down the aisle. This will shorten the amount of time needed after your ceremony and before your reception.

 How do you start the ceremony on time? Trust in your wedding professionals to start their parts of your ceremony on time. You’ve signed a contract that includes specific times and amounts of time allotted for their services or products (rentals, flowers, etc.). Be aware of human nature and the unforeseen. If you know that members of your family or the wedding party are constantly late, ask them to show up at an earlier time than you really need them at the ceremony (approximately 30 minutes is a good buffer here).

 Should you have a receiving line after the ceremony? Consider alternatives to a receiving line if you are pressed for time. When you and your new spouse walk back into the ceremony area and greet and release your guests from their seats, you are controlling the amount of time that you talk to each guest. Saving the receiving line until the reception has some perks, but consider taking time as a couple (either during the cocktail time or after dinner) to thank your guests individually. You should always thank your guests personally either at your ceremony or during your reception.

Of course all bridal shows are not created equally so be sure to mark your calendar with dates and times and be prepared for a good time. Breast cancer has touched many, many families.  Most of us know someone who has been given the diagnosis “You have breast cancer”.

To show their support in the fight against breast cancer, The Monogram Shoppe and more businesses at Covington Plaza are participating in a fund raiser for Francine’s Friends.

Francine’s Friends is a mobile coach that travels the area providing screening mammograms for women.  It visits shopping centers, work places and other community centers to make it easier for women to get their mammogram.
