Some flew in the battle of Britain. A specially selected group who's names appear on the adjacent plaque and round the rim of the parachute on the fountain, flew from near here and were parachuted into their occupied home land to try to assassinate the deputy head of the SS, General Reinhard Heydrich, who Hitler had made Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia which is now the Czech Republic.
The water dripping from the edges of the parachute on the top of the fountain are to represent the strings from the parachute. In the front is a sun dial. Growing on the left and right are patches of heather which were brought from Lidice which was a small town to the north east of Prague & which was notoriously obliterated along with its population in a Nazi reprisel for the assassination carried out by Czech parachutists who were based near Leamington. Their names are on the brass plaque behind the fountain and on the fountain. They were dropped in to occupied Czechoslovakia by the RAF during the early part of world war two. They were on a clandistine mission called "Operation Anthropoid" Their names appear round the fountain in this order. Jan Hruby, Adolf Capulka, Jaroslav Svarc, Josef Valcik, Josef Bulbik, Jan Kubis, Jozef Gabcik. They were based at Morton Padox refugee camp near Leamington. This photograph was taken by me in Jephson gardens in the summer of 2008.

The mission was to assasinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich whom Adolf Hitler had put in charge of Bohemia and Moravia, which now form the Czech Republic. On the 27th May 1942, two of the parachutists waited on a corner where the general's car was expected & would have to slow at the road junction. One fired at Heydrich but the gun jammed, so the other threw a gamon grenade in to the rear of the car. The blast blew parts of the seat into heydrich and he subsequentially died from septisemia. Below you can see the road junction & Heydrich's open car.

Bellow is the wreck of Heydrich's open staff car. A reward was offered for anyone who could tell the location of the assasins. One of the Czech parachutists was caught & tortured to reveal the location of the others. They were being hiden by a priest in a Russian orthodox church. The German soldiers entered the church and there was a gun fight. Kubis was killed in the main part of the church. Gabcech and three others were in the crypt where they were trapped and comitted suicide. The Germans had fed a fire hose in through the slit but there was a drain inside allowing the water to escape.

Below is a recent photograph of the monument outside the crypt where the Czech parachutists died

The The severn Czechoslovak parachutists of operation Anthropoid.

This is St. Karel Boromejsky Church in Prague in which they died.

Think of a number between 1 and 31 that you would like to represent on one hand. Hold up the fingers which when their numbers are added to each other = the number you thought of. The fastest way to find the correct fingers is to start with the finger representing the largest number that fits into your number, if it is a still larger number then hold up the next largest number finger that will fit and so on until you can represent the number with those fingers. For example, to represent a 21 choose the little finger and the middle finger and the thumb, = 16 + 4 + 1, = 21. So if you hold up all five fingers and add the numbers represented they add up to 31, a large number to count on one hand. Indeed if you extend this system to both hands you can count up to 1023 on them. Notice that each number has twice the value of the previouse one.

The game goes like this. Write down the numbers 1 to 26 and under the numbers write the alphabet, i.e. 1=A 2=B - 26=Z. Now its possible to send messages from one to the other by representing the letters with numbers with your fingers by some fingers held up and the others kept down. You send a number/letter at a time and the other person sums the finger values & then writes them down and translates them into letters until they have a complete word. For example to send the letter "I" hold up the thumb and the third finger to represent 1+8=9=letter "I". It helps if the other person has a picture of a hand with these numbers written at the finger tips, either drawn or you could print out two copies of this photograph of a hand. An adult should start the game with a child & if there are two children who can play it with each other they could be left to play it together. My daughter could do this when she was four years old, so its not very difficult to play. An 11 year old I showed this to soon started to recognise the letter represented by the fingers held up without bothering with the numbers. I found that many children enjoy playing this. Its good practice at addition, also an introduction to the idea of a code and an introduction to the binary system which is used everywhere in computers.

You can walk out into the sea for hundreds of metres just up to your waist in warm water and walking on sand, hence the colour of the water. Seychelles has an oceanic climate because it is a thousand miles from a continent, its 4 degrees south of the equator. Typical temperature is 27C. There are over 90 islands, this is on the main one. Photograph taken October 1991.

Welcome to g3nqf.co.uk the Homepage and photoblog of UK Radio Amateur Roger Fenton, amateur radio call sign G3NQF.

I started this blog so that I could show some photographs of my ham radio station and the scenery near my home so that any radio amateur who I contact may if he wishes see some views of the area he had made contact with. It has grown to include places futher away and then places I have visited abroad and is still becoming more diverse. Having retired early from a long career in Telecommunications, I have spent much of my time enjoying photography, amateur radio and walking in the Gloucestershire countryside. Having also enjoyed travel most of my life I have visited Colombia and The Czech Republic in recent years.

This blog is mainly a collection of images I have shot in more recent years

In 1948, the UN adopted in its Universal Declaration of Human Rights, [Article 19]:which reads,

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

How would you know if you had been indoctrinated or brainwashed? Question your beliefs and where they came from.

Tetra mast and mobile phone mast fears and television transmissions.
Compare this information about television broadcasts, with that for public mobile telephone services and TETRA systems.A mobile phone held to the ear transmits with a power of approximately 2 Watts & due mainly to proximity a large proportion of this power is absorbed by the head. Mobile phone masts transmitt with aproximately 30 to 100 Watts The masts aerials are designed to aim the signal parallel to the ground, i.e. horizontally above the local ground, there for the signal is not so strong just under the aerial as you might imagine. At some distance from the aerial, the signal weakens due to it having spread out and it reduces in strength four times each time it doubles its distance. its called Square law.

Frequencies for mobile phones are in bands at approximately 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz and at 3 GHz.

UK UHF TV frequencies are, for channel 21 (474MHz) which is just above Tetra systems frequencies.
Through to the frequency for - channel 68 (850MHz) which is just below the lowest mobile phones band.

Hence one might reasonably expect that if this band of radio frequency signals were a health hazard then roughly the same hazard exists across the band, Tetra-TV-Phones. However, consider the following.

The Mendip TV transmitter near Wells transmits analogue T.V, channels with a power of 500,000.Watts, And digital T.V. with 20,000 Watts, from a very high mast and again aimed horizontally, and all round.
So the lowest mobile phone band is proportionally just higher than the T.V. channel 68, which runs approximately 10,000 times as much power. How many people have ever worried about this as compared to mobile phone masts? Has the strength of the T.V. transmission ever worried you? Should it?
Tetra systems used by the police use a band of frequencies just lower than T.V. channel 21 & much less power. It does leave a slight chance that some near by T.V. reception may be affected due to proximity & being on a near frequency but this is only likely in a poor T.V. signal area where a booster amplifier is fitted to the T.V. aerial, because the booster may have poor out of T.V. band rejection and so amplify the Tetra signal until it over powers the T.V. set aerial input circuitry, blocking or distorting theT.V.signal.

Accusations that mobile phone masts are a health hazard reminds me of hunting witches, if they can't prove them selves innocent they are assumed to be guilty & any unfortunate & unexplained incident near by gets blamed on them.
Don't let anyone confuse you between the damage done by ionizing (radio active) radiation and non ionising radiation (radio waves) Terms such as "low level radiation" apply to ionizing radiation & don't have the same meaning as a high or low amount of the same thing, its a difference in qualities.Ionizing radiation concentrates high energy into an extremely small area, as does a bullet, radio waves share energy over a wide front as does a wave arriving on a beach.

See report http://news.ulster.ac.uk/releases/2006/2089.html#

TETRA. Oficial information.

Radio spectrum for TETRA in Europe
The fast roll-out of TETRA in Europe partly resulted from the fact that a virgin frequency band was allocated for the emergency services based on agreement between the EU and NATO. As a result, European Public Safety and Security forces are using the radio frequency band 380-385//390-395 MHz for operation of their TETRA networks.

Within this emergency service TETRA spectrum allocation most of the radio frequencies are reserved for Trunked Mode Operation (TMO). The Direct Mode Operation (DMO) frequencies are typically allocated at the lower end of the radio frequency band (from 380 MHz upwards) and specific frequencies for Air-Ground-Air (AGA) operation are allocated at the upper end of the band (from 385//395 MHz downwards) to allow international compatibility.

For the European non-emergency services, TETRA frequencies are mainly allocated in the 410 to 430 MHz band with some countries allocating frequencies in the 450 to 470 MHz band. Countries that are not members of NATO can sometimes allocate radio frequencies in the 385-390//395-399.9 MHz band for non-public safety TETRA users.

4) The TETRA technology utilises a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) system that is also used in technologies such as GSM, D-AMPS, iDEN. In all of these technologies the mobile/handset produces RF energy in short bursts. Concern has been expressed in relation to the somewhat lower rate at which TETRA bursts are transmitted. The TETRA Association is aware of research into the effects of this type of transmission although, at this time, we are not aware of any government or standards agency that has concluded that existing exposure limits should be reduced. As already stated, the Association would welcome further research into this area.
The comments relating to the burst transmission characteristics of mobile equipment do not apply to base station equipment as these transmit a continuous radio frequency.

International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP)
View/download http://www.icnirp.de/Documents/Emfgdl.PDF
