Well, something really crazy just happened last night. Canada based mobile phone leader, BlackBerry has finally announced that BBM, which stands out loud for BlackBerry Messenger, the native messaging app for BlackBerry smartphones will now be available for Apple iPhones, and other Android devices as a free app in the app store. We don’t really know if it’s a good or worst step by RIM as of now, but BBM will be coming to iPhone and Android devices this summer. Apart from the flat interface, it has been confirmed that iOS 7 will feature a new set of icons for its stock apps, new UI elements along with a basic tab bars and toolbar. Also, the Game Center can be seen having a more colorful App icon in all new iOS 7. Other changes in  the package include easily ‘glanceable-area’ which is somewhat a similar function in Google’s Android, and probably a better feature in Android until we get our hands on iOS 7. What is does is, that it lets you access panels, by swiping from either edge of the device.

The interface may be flat, but this is exactly what the world is turning to, and appreciating, as seen in the case of Windows Phone OS. We liked the new UI from Apple, and here is a screenshot showing flat UI in iOS 7 which will be unveiled for public in WWDC 2013 in June ’2013.

Google Keep is coming in to take the place of Google Reader and Snapseed which were recently shut down.  This upcoming note taking application, available for PCs is being called Google Keep, talks of which have been doing the rounds lately. Google Keep is scheduled to compete with the likes of Evernote and OneNote and hence the company is ensuring that it leaves no raw edges so that it matches and even supersedes competition.  This new note taking service, works similar to the way in which Evernote works, taking down notes and / or checklists, allotting color codes in order of priority and also adding pictures wherever needed.

 It is rather too early to say for sure, but Google Keep is estimated to even work well in offline reading.  Impending release makes it necessary to note how this new app from Google will work and whether it will be seen as a fit contender to Evernote.

Simplenote, Springpad, Evernote and Microsoft’s OneNote are in the meantime growing in demand due to their well versed note taking facilities, photos and audio/video possibilities.  Availability of the same is across mobile phones, PCs and also through web interface.  It is to be seen only once launched, whether Google Keep will be a keen contender or not.

Google Keep is scheduled to permit users to:

-          Take written notes

-          Create check lists

-          Save photos

-          Permit task lists

-          Web links and images

Notes can also be color coded on screen, a facility which is also seen on other Google products such as Google Now and Google+.  Google Keep works at an advantage as it can be integrated with Android as well as other Google services.  Once this feature comes into effect, an addition to Google Keep tab will appear while conducting Google Search, while it may also be a standing feature available with Google Chrome browser.  Its functionality on Android is also feasible with the ability to dictate notes via voice command.  Google Keep will be more adept due to its services being designed around smartphone usage as well as from PCs.

Initial inspection, during the short time that Google Keep was seen via some screen shots which were viewed to whet the appetites of prospective uses, Google Keep appears to be basic when comparing the same to Evernote or One Note.

Evernote and One Note have better management and offer a great deal more functions to users enabling them to effectively organize screen shots, photos, documents and navigation of files etc. Google Keep comes after Google Notebook, a similar service was shut down last year.  It may be surmised, that Google Keep is old wine in new bottles, as it is rumored to be a follow-up of some of the services which were offered on Google Notebook which may make its way into Google Keep.

Google remains closed to making any declarations as to when this new Google Keep app for note taking and other facilities will be released.  The company is well known for testing its products and offerings for a long period of time before actually launching the same and hence there is no telling how long it will be before Google Keep makes its official appearance.
