Facebook one of the leading Social networking site is trying to be more social by trying to take over Blackberry Messenger.

A couple of days back 'Facebook Messenger' was launched on iPhone and Android which is a standalone app for messaging your Facebook friends and mobile contacts. Yesterday the app was launched for Blackberry in US only. Blackberry Messenger also known as BBM have more than 45 million users around the world while Facebook with more than 750 million users worldwide. Facebook will be hoping to steal away some of the market share in the growing mobile instant messenger market.

Facebook Messenger app is available on both Android and iOS devices, but there are no dates set for when it will be available outside US.

"More and more of us rely on our phones to send and receive messages. But it isn't always easy to know the best way to reach someone on their phone. Should you send an email or text? Which will they check first? Did they even get your last message?" wrote Facebook engineer Lucy Zhang in a blog post explaining the new service. "We think messaging should be easier than that. You should be able to write a message, click 'Send' and know that you will reach the person right away."

On Wednesday, however, just one day after the launch of Facebook Messenger, the app was already the number one most popular in the Apple App Store among all free apps. Customers had posted 929 ratings already, delivering a 3.5 star rating out of a possible 5.

Amazon is selling Kindle Fire for $199 and it cost them $209.63 to make

It cost Amazon $209.63 to build one Kindle Fire, which means that the company is loses $10 on each tablet sold by them.

Research firm IHS offers a rundown of the device’s components on its site. Materials for the Kindle Fire, which retails for $199, cost $191.65, but with factory expenses, that comes to $209.63. However, despite the apparent loss, IHS estimates that Amazon is “likely to generate a marginal profit of $10″ on each Kindle Fire sold, when you take into account sales of digital content with the device.

The researcher goes on to reason that Amazon doesn’t make a lot of money from Kindle sales or sales of digital content like ebooks and music. Instead, Amazon’s strategy is to lure more customers to buy higher-margin goods from its site. Kindle Fire, introduced this week, is selling at a price that’s lower than some had predicted. It’s also $50 less than Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color, its closest competitor.

Fan Created iPhone 5 Widget Concept Revealed

Jan-Michael Cart has create a concept for iOS 5 that shows how Apple should allow for widgets on the home screens. The idea reveals home screens to the left of the main screen. Normally when swiping that way, you simply get the search function. This concept adds more screens to the left allowing widgets to be installed on one side while keeping all the apps grouped to the right of the search screen as demonstrated in the image below:
Although Apple will probably introduce widgets another way, Jan-Michael certainly has an idea that could work well when iOS 5 is released.

We have been hearing reports that Apple will be launching better notifications along with widgets in iOS 5. The iOS 5 release date is not currently known although some are hinting at a September launch with an unveiling at WWDC that is running shortly.

Blackberry OS 6.0 Theme Available for Download

This week the new Blackberry OS 6.0 was unveiled showing a new user interface and improved features to various functions such as email, messaging and other parts of the OS.
No firm date for launch was set for the new Blackberry operating system although a time frame of 2 - 3 months is to be expected. For those of you who cannot wait that long a Blackberry OS 6.0 theme has been created called "I Dream of 6".

The new BB OS 6 theme is compatible with several devices which include the BlackBerry Storm2, BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold (9700 and 9000), BlackBerry Tour, BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Curve 8530 and the BlackBerry Curve 8520.
The downside is that the theme costs although it's just $4.99 to get the download. You can download the OS 6.0 theme from here.

Samsung and Acer Google ChromeBooks Now Available for Pre-Order

Amazon and Best Buy are now accepting pre-orders for the various Google Chrome Books. At the moment, models from Samsung and Acer are available for pre-order and each have a shipping date of 15 June according to Google.
The Samsung Chromebook is called the Series 5 and there are four versions available although each based around one of two models. There's the 3G model that costs $499 that is available in Arctic White and in Titan Silver. The WiFi version also comes in the same two colour options, Arctic White here and Titan Silver here. The WiFi models cost $429.99 each and the 3G models are $499.99 each. Remember that you need connectivity to the internet to be able to use Chrome OS, so if you can't tether from a smartphone while on the move, you might be best opting for the 3G model.
There are also two Acer models which are the same 3G and Wireless models. The 3G model costs $449.99 and is available here while the Wireless only model is the cheapest of all Chrome OS netbooks and costs $379.99, available here.
Technical specs of each model show that the Samsung Series 5 has a 12.1 inch screen that has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It has 8.5 hours of battery life per charge, uses an Intel Atom Dual-Core processor, has a HD webcam and a full sized keyboard.
The Acer models are a little different in that they have a slightly smaller 11.6 inch HD display. Battery life is lower at 6 hours. This particular model runs the Intel Atom Dual-Core CPU. A HD webcam is included and it has a full sized keyboard.

A virtual keyboard has been found for Google Chrome. The keyboard is pictured below but can also be found at the chromium website. It isn't known exactly what the keyboard is for. One website asks if it's a virtual keyboard for Chrome OS... ie, touchscreen chrome OS devices. Or perhaps it's for Android based tablet computers.

We expect to hear more about this keyboard in the coming weeks.
The keyboard pictured above is working in that you can tap the keys on it. As soon as we find out more about it, we'll share it with you.

Twitter has acquired TweetDeck, the popular multi-platform twitter client according to Techcrunch sources. Neither twitter nor tweetdeck announced the deal, but Techcrunch says it will be announced in the next couple of days

The deal is interesting because Twitter acquired TweetDeck to stop UberMedia from acquiring TweetDeck. UberMedia has several application under its belt.

iHome has one of the largest ranges of iPod and iPad docks around. The company has added one more offering to that range today with a new dock called the iP3. The new device has Bongiovi Digital Power Station tech inside with 50W of power if you’re looking for some serious sound.

The dock will charge and play tracks from the iPhone or iPod when docked and has 3.5″ coaxial neodymium speakers inside. An adjustable EQ allows the user to customize the sound and the device has an AV out jack. Other features include a line-in jack, a remote control, and backlit buttons.
The 50W amp is a class D power amplifier and will make this one of the more powerful iPod docks around. The bass should be very nice from the iP3, too. The docking station measures 14.81″ x 5.71″ x 6.23″ and works with any dockable iPod and the iPhone. The device is shipping right now over at iHome and sells for $199.99 (USD).

Dell Duo transforms from a netbook to a tablet with a simple screen swivel

Now what do we have here? It's the new Dell Duo, which looks like a normal 10-inch netbook until you notice that the screen rotates around to turn it into a tablet. You simply swivel it around within its frame to make the transformation. It's certainly one of the more interesting computer designs we've seen in a while.

The Duo is powered by a dual-core Atom processor and sports Windows 7 Premium. There aren't too many other details, and we don't know when this will be release or for how much, but it's certainly one to keep your eye on. Although I can't help but wish that the entire screen popped off completely to become a tablet, but maybe that's asking too much.

Google plans to destory Facebook, with Facebook's help

It's no secret that Google has been planning a social network of its own, but now CEO Eric Schmidt is talking more frankly about it. What do we know right now? It could be called Google Me, appear as early as this fall, and Google is hoping Facebook well aid in its own destruction.
At the Google Zeitgeist conference this week in Arizon, Schmidt himself very casually proposed the following scenario: "The best thing that would happen is for Facebook to open up its data," adding that even if the social network didn't do that for Google, the company had other plans in place.

Opening up that contact list means that you'd be able to easily see if any of your Facebook friends are also using Google Me and quickly connect.
What are the chances of that? Pretty slim. As Maximum PC points out, though you can easily publish your Twitter status updates on Facebook via the former's app, Facebook was quick to bar Twitter from using your friends list to allow you find who is also using Twitter. It's worth noting that Facebook has, in fact, allowed game developer named Blizzard to sync up friends in its latest game, Star Craft 2.
We still have to wait and see exactly what shape Google Me will take, though it's expected to span — and perhaps even tie together — several Google services, much like Buzz. Just, y'know, in more of a Facebook-y way and not so Twitter-y.

Heatherwick Studios designed 'Sitooterie II' as a permanent structure for the National Malus Collection in Essex, U.K. Over 5,000 hollow aluminum tubes were used to create this mutant porcupine sculpture. At night each tube acts like a window for the light source in the center, giving the entire thing that otherworldly glow.

"Sitooterie" is a Scottish term for sitting area, by the way. So go ahead and take a breather; we don't mind.

iPhones do many things. Just like Apple and Samsung, ViewSonic have officially declared to release their Tablet, ViewPad 7, into the market soon. ViewPad7 is going to be 7" Android 2.2 (Foryo) Tablet with Phone Facility.

The 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled device will come with front (VGA) and back (3MP) facing cameras. Other features include G-sensor (for automatic screen orientation), AGPS, handwriting recognition and document reader.

Downgrade iOS 4 to 3.1.3 on iPhone/iPod Touch

Apple recently released the iOS4 firmware update for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch users. Users updated to the new firmware anticipating new features and improved performance. For some of them the opposite occurred, especially for iPhone 3G owners. Most of the iPhone 3G users are reporting very slow performance and applications crashing. The main cause of this problem is the slow processor and the low amount of RAM in the iPhone 3G.

Now there is no official way to downgrade to OS 3.1.3 from iOS4, but there is always an unofficial way. Here are the steps to downgrade from iOS4 to OS 3.1.3 –:

1) First navigate to “c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\” and open the ‘hosts’ file in notepad. To do so, right click on the file and select Open With->Notepad. At the end of the document, add this string “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com”.

2) Now connect your iPhone to iTunes in recovery mode. To do so, first switch off your device. Then press the Home button on your handset and connect the USB cable. As soon as you connect the USB cable, the device will boot up and a “Connect To iTunes” screen will be displayed. Users can now stop pressing the Home button.

3) Fire up iTunes now. You will see your iPhone/iPod Touch detected in recovery mode. Now, whilst pressing the Shift key for Windows users or Alt key on the Mac platform, click on the Restore option.

Now just select the original OS 3.1.3 and voila, you are done. Now you can again enjoy OS 3.1.3 on your iTouch device.
