He "forgot" about Tehran's promise to fully activate its first nuclear reactor Tuesday, Jan. 25.  <span class="debka" style="font-weight: bold;">DEBKA</span><span class="file" style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">file</span>'s intelligence and Moscow sources reveal that on that day, Iran's hand on the switch was held back at the last minute by Sergei Kiriyenko, chief of Rosatom (the Russian national nuclear energy commission which oversaw the reactor's construction. He came hurrying over to warn Tehran that Stuxnet was back and switching the reactor on could trigger a calamitous nuclear explosion that could cost a million Iranian lives and devastate neighboring populations. He complained to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Iranian nuclear and engineering staff were ignoring the presence of the malworm and must be stopped.</p> <p style="font-size: 14px; margin: 0px;">Kiriyenko told the Iranian president that the Russian engineers employed at the reactor notified Moscow that Stuxnet was again attacking the Bushehr systems after apparently taking a rest from its first onslaught last June. There was no telling which systems had been infected, because a key feature of the virus is that the systems' screens show they are working normally when in fact they have been fatally disarmed. Activating the reactor in these circumstances could cause an explosion far more powerful than the disaster at the Russian reactor at Chernobyl, Ukraine in April 1986, which released 400 times more radioactive material than the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.<br />The impression the Rosatom chief had gained from his staff at Bushehr was that the Iranian teams had been ordered to activate the reactor at any price to prove that the Islamic Republic had beaten Stuxnet. This concern overrode security. The consequences of ignoring this fearful hazard, said Kiriyenko, were unthinkable and would destroy the revolutionary Islamic regime in Tehran in their wake.<br />Kirienko began worrying when he heard the Iranian nuclear commission's spokesman Hamid Khadem-Qaemi claim on Jan. 17 that Bushehr had not been affected by Stuxnet.<br />Our Iranian sources report that, after seeing the Russian official off, Ahmadinejad ordered the reactor to stay shut down.</p> <p style="font-size: 14px; margin: 0px;">This week, Salehi, who is also Iran's foreign minister, hinted at the cause of the delay when he said: "The reactor has started its operation and the next step is to reach critical phase which will happen by the end of Bahman (February 20) in presence of Russians. We have said before that due to some tests, we may have to face delays but these delays are around a week or two." He added, "We aim at launching Bushehr nuclear reactor safely not to merely launch it."</p> <p style="font-size: 14px; margin: 0px;">In Jerusalem, Maj-Gen. The original *QUESTION* posed that led to the invention of Onion Routing was, "Can we build a system that allows for bi-directional communications over the Internet where the source and destination cannot be determined by a mid-point?" The *PURPOSE* was for DoD / Intelligence usage (open source intelligence gathering, covering of forward deployed assets, whatever). Not helping dissidents in repressive countries. Not assisting criminals in covering their electronic tracks. Not helping bit-torrent users avoid MPAA/RIAA prosecution. Not giving a 10 year old a way to bypass an anti-porn filter. Of course, we knew those would be other unavoidable uses for the technology, but that was immaterial to the problem at hand we were trying to solve (and if those uses were going to give us more cover traffic to better hide what we wanted to use the network for, all the better...I once told a flag officer that much to his chagrin). I should know, I was the recipient of that question from David, and Paul was brought into the mix a few days later after I had sketched out a basic (flawed) design for the original Onion Routing. The short answer to your question of "Why would the government do this?" is because it is in the best interests of some parts of the government to have this capability... Ma la battaglia fra i due giganti della tecnologia, Facebook e Google, è arrivata ora a non escludere alcun colpo, in una escalation che ha portato il sovrano dei social network a ingaggiare una famosa società di pubbliche relazioni per promuovere, fra autorevoli blogger e media, pezzi critici sulla tutela della privacy da parte del colosso di Mountain View. <p />La campagna di stampa negativa ordita segretamente da Facebook ai danni del concorrente, svelata da <em style="font-weight: inherit; font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Usa Today</em>e da <em style="font-weight: inherit; font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">The Daily Beast</em>, è stata immediatamente ripresa da giornali e siti, rivelandosi un boomerang. In rete è nato un vero e proprio caso e fioccano le critiche alla creatura di Mark Zuckerberg, che di certo non ne esce bene. E c'è da scommettere che la guerra fra i due colossi si arricchirà ora di nuovi capitoli. <p /> "Pr fiasco" è uno degli appellativi più gentili riservati alla goffa manovra messa in piedi nel tentativo di gettare fango su Google. La società di pubbliche relazioni assoldata per il lavoro è la Burston-Marsteller. E uno dei suoi addetti è stato beccato mentre cercava di proporre al blogger Chris Soghoian, che si occupa di questioni di sicurezza in rete, dati e informazioni su Social Circle, un network di Google che permette agli utenti di Gmail di vedere informazioni non solo dei loro amici, ma di amici degli amici, o "contatti secondari". E cercava di spingere l'esperto ad approfondire indiscrezioni secondo cui Google viola sistematicamente <br />la privacy dei propri utenti. Non solo: si è anche offerto di scrivere lui il pezzo per il blogger, o quanto meno di aiutarlo, incassando però il rifiuto di Soghoian. Che ha anche deciso di rendere pubblica la storia, diffondendo le e-mail che lui e il suo "contatto" alla Burston-Marsteller si erano scambiati. <p />In una di queste, l'addetto della società di Pr attacca senza mezzi termini Google, accusando Mountain View di avere alle spalle una storia ben nota di violazioni dei diritti della privacy degli utenti internet in America. Il servizio di Google, sempre secondo le informazioni dell'addetto Burston-Marsteller, sarebbe in particolare, "l'ultimo congegno ideato per rubare dati personali e mettere insieme dossier estremamente personali su milioni di utenti". <p /><em style="font-weight: inherit; font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Usa Today</em> per primo ha rivelato l'esistenza della campagna di stampa negativa ai danni di Google, ma non ha individuato il mandante. Svelato, invece, da <em style="font-weight: inherit; font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">The Daily Beast</em>: si tratta di Facebook, che, davanti alle prove, non ha potuto che ammettere di essersi rivolto alla Burston-Marsteller, provando ad abbozzare una spiegazione: "Google compie azioni che suscitano preoccupazioni sul versante della privacy. E poi Facebook non apprezza i tentativi di utilizzare i propri dati da parte di Google, nel suo servizio di social network". <p /><em style="font-weight: inherit; font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">À la guerre comme à la guerre</em>, è vero. Ma la mossa di Facebook di certo non ha giovato all'immagine dell'azienda. Caduta di tono o vera e propria "catastrofe"? I giudizi sono di vario grado, univoci però nella bocciatura. L'episodio non fa che confermare che ormai i due big, nati con obiettivi diversi - Facebook social media, Google motore di ricerca per eccellenza - si stanno pericolosamente avvicinando, rischiando di pestarsi i piedi. E di competere, sempre più da vicino, per il monopolio della pubblicità online. Finora i tentativi di Mountain View di sviluppare il versante social non hanno avuto particolare successo. We lack, however, a solid understanding of this enterprise’s full structure, and thus most anti-spam interventions focus on only one facet of the overall spam value chain (e.g., spam filtering, URL blacklisting, site takedown). In this paper we present a holistic analysis that quantifies the full set of resources employed to monetize spam email— including naming, hosting, payment and fulfillment—using extensive measurements of three months of diverse spam data, broad crawling of naming and hosting infrastructures, and over 100 purchases from spam-advertised sites. We relate these resources to the organizations who administer them and then use this data to characterize the relative prospects for defensive interventions at each link in the spam value chain.
