This June, we share our own fun way to uniquely indulge every great leader of the family — our dads! At Marriott Manila, we ensure that we’re the perfect venue to celebrate his life and love through golf.

And if you haven’t tasted just yet our sensational homemade gelato, it’s the best time to savor every flavor, especially the famous Ferrero!

What’s amazing with dads is that, they love all sort of action-packed bonding experience, especially if it’s a golf game.

Pearl beads have long been a symbol for wisdom, transformation and beauty. During the transitional phases of girl to woman, pearl beads are often the superior gift of choice. When making a pearl bead necklace for one of these occasions, a popular choice is the beautiful graduated size necklace.

Begin to make a graceful graduate pearl bead necklace by cutting a length of stringing cord the desired length. Elastic cord works very well for this project. Attach 2 rings and a clamshell bead tip on one of the cord’s ends. Next, begin to string the pearl beads onto the cord. Be sure that they are strung in ascending order with the largest pearl bead in the center. String a total of 25 – 6mm pearl beads, 5-7mm pearl beads, 3-8mm pearl beads, 1-9mm pearl bead and finally, the 1 10mm pearl bead. The objective is to create a mirror image on each side of the large pearl bead in the center.

The strand of graduated pearl beads should be finished off using the same technique as described in the first step, by using another clamshell bead tip. Finally, attach a 0.75 x 4.30mm sterling silver open jump ring to each of the bead tips. Connect the first portion of the 2-strand round clasp to each jump ring. A sterling silver one should be used. The graduate pearl bead necklace is now complete, and ready to keep or to give as a gift that will be cherished for decades to come.

Going to college can cost and arm and a leg, but if you have prowess in a sport you might be able to put those arms and legs to good use by getting a sports scholarship which will pay your college fees. Getting a scholarship is not always easy, though, and you may have to work as hard to get a scholarship as you do in your chosen sport.

Most students will apply to a mainstream sport such as football or basketball, but if you do not have prowess on the field or track, then do not think scholarships are beyond your reach, as there are plenty of scholarships available for lesser known sports – some of which pay full fees.

If racquet sports are your game, then consider applying for a scholarship in badminton, tennis, squash or even table tennis. Several colleges across the US offer scholarships for these sports to both male and female players.

Balls do not always have to be oval. If you are not an American football fan, then consider applying for a soccer scholarship, or if you prefer summer sports then consider a cricket scholarship. Rugby is growing in popularity in America and some colleges offer scholarships for rugby players.

If you are good at heavy lifting and your clean and jerk technique is up to the mark, then think about funding your college years with a weightlifting scholarship, offered by several colleges to both men and women. Or if you prefer testing yourself against a human opponent and compete in the judo circle or the boxing ring, scholarships are also available for these sports. Or get on guard with a fencing scholarship.

Some athletic scholarships do not even need a high level of physical fitness, although they still need a student to have application, want, and high level skills. Consider an archery scholarship or a bowling scholarship if you prefer to play your sport at a slightly more sedate pace.

Do not forget that although there may be fewer people applying in your chosen sport, if you excel in one of these more obscure sports, there may still be a lot of competition because there will be less scholarships available. In some cases only a few colleges will offer scholarships in your chosen sport which may limit your choices so pick carefully. You may also need to have higher academic standards because competition for the places will be tough.

Applying to these scholarships takes the same attitude and skills as applying to a mainstream sport. Make sure you do your research well and get your name known with the recruiters at your favored colleges. Tailor your letters to each specific college so the recruiters feel like you really want to be there. Everybody is an internet whizz these days, but using things such as You Tube can help in your bid for a scholarship. Think about compiling a short video of your best football games, or track runs and post it on You Tube and send recruiters the link so they can see you in action.

If you play a lesser known sport, and think your skills might be enough to carry you through college then you might also like to consider approaching the local or national bodies for your sport. They may also offer scholarships which can help to pay your college fees.

Your sporting prowess is obviously important when applying for an athletic scholarship, but do not neglect your academic studies, college is after all about getting an education. There are always rumors about top athletes being offered easier courses or lower academic standards because colleges want them on their team, but a well-respected college will probably expect you to have decent academic standards as well as being a good athlete.

If you are hoping for an athletic scholarship, then attitude is also important. You may be number one in your school team, but at college you might find yourself lower down the pecking order. You might even find yourself in the reserves for large parts of the season. If you want a scholarship, then you will need to show you can deal with that kind of rejection without sulking or dropping your work rate on or off the field.

An athletic scholarship is a great way to fund a college career which may otherwise be out of your reach, and allows you to continue playing your favorite sport while furthering your education.

Happy inspires Filipino pride and is on a winning streak. Fresh from her multiple achievements as one of the winners of Swatch watch Enter the Dragon Competition 2012, Fashion Design Council of the Philippines Smart Choice Winner in Weaving the Future Competition, Grand Prize winner for Swatch watch My Rabbit story 2011 and awarded as Inspiring Young Filipino Entrepreneur by Go Negosyo last 2010, Happy also represented the Philippines in Art & Fashion Week (Toronto, Canada), Top Styl Designer event (Czech Republic), Fashion Art Exhibit (Netherlands), Animax featured designer in Toy, Games & Comic Convention (Singapore); International Fashion Art Biennale (Korea) and Fashion Design Competition (Japan).

To toast to Happy’s recent victories, a party was held in her honor, which coincided with the fifth anniversary of Fashion ART (F*ART), a store she co-owns with her sister, Viva. This celebration was a fun-filled night of fashion, art, music, photography and poetry. There were poetry readings and performances by Kooky Tuason, Marty Tengco, Charms Tianzon, Raul Roco Jr., andRichard Tuason. Live music flowed throughout the evening by Deejay Poblete, Noah Zuniga, Jeff Pagaduan, JP Hernandez, and Diwa de Leon. Comedian Stanley Chi tickled the funny bones of guests. This event was hosted by Frida Nepomuceno. Happy’s newest fashion collection was photographed and mounted on walls by lensman Darrel Pobre.

F*ART is a store conceptualized by creative sisters, Happy and Viva, who want to give space for Filipino talent to bloom and grow. Viva and Happy are amazed with what Filipinos can do. They believe in Filipino talent. They encourage others to be proud of what Filipinos can do. Since its onset in 2007, F*ART has consistently been a place where young, fast rising Filipino fashion designers and artists showcase the best of what they have to offer. F*ART has upcoming activities: Opening exhibit of “Tattoo My Colors” by Katrina Pallon and Raul Roco Jr. on April 14, Art Talks on April 21, a live art session featuring Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School Manila on April 28 and Meneer Marcelo’s art workshops in April and May.

Happy is known for her unique detail work, specialized craftmanship, and her groundbreaking style. Making every design her masterpiece, Happy is a perennial show stopper at the Philippine Fashion Week since 2006. To date she has already had more than 50 Fashion Shows. To top it all off, as Happy promotes her personal best of Filipino fashion and art to the world, she is gaining a steady following of loyal customers who spread the word on how she helps them look their best. When her customers are happy, that makes Happy even happier.

Happy sells her Ready To Wear line at her website www.happyandrada.com and showcases her creations at F*ART Fashion ART located in 24 J. Erestain cor.K-1st, Kamuning, Quezon City.
