Masjid Hassan II, Ikon Islam di Maroko

MASJID Hassan II di Casablanca, Maroko yang selesai pada 1993 adalah salah satu masjid terbesar dan paling indah di dunia. Ini merupakan kekayaan berkilau yang kontras terhadap sisa Casablanca.

Pembangunan Masjid ini dicetuskan oleh Raja Hassan II yang dimaksudkan untuk memberikan Casablanca sebuah landmark yang mempunyai ciri khas.

Dirancang oleh arsitek Prancis Michel Pinseau, pembangunan Masjid Hassan II dimulai pada bulan Juli 1986. Pada awalnya pembangunan masjid ini dijadwalkan selesai pada ulang tahun Raja Hassan II yang ke 60 pada 1989, namun akhirnya baru selesai pada 1993.

Hal yang paling unik di masjid ini adalah lokasinya. Dibangun di atas tanah reklamasi, hampir setengah dari permukaan masjid terletak di atas laut Atlantik. Bagian dari lantai yang terbuat dari kaca memungkinkan pengunjung termasuk Anda, bisa berlutut langsung di atas laut.

Bagian atap juga mempunyai keunikan karena bisa terbuka secara otomatis menghadap langit namun hanya pada kesempatan tertentu. Masjid Agung ini juga menorehkan catatan spektakuler lainnya dimana menara masjid yang setinggi 210 meter merupakan struktur tertinggi di Maroko dan bahkan di dunia.

Selain itu, pada malam hari, sebuah cahaya laser akan muncul dari puncak menara menuju Mekah. Ini dimaksudkan untuk menunjuk jalan kepada Allah. Fakta menarik lainnya adalah bangunan masjid ini dirancang tahan gempa.

Mengenai arsitektur, Gaya Masjid Hassan II menampilkan pengaruh Moor yang kuat. Dinding-dinding dan kolom interior yang halus diukir dalam berbagai pola yang rumit.

Hampir semua bahan dari Masjid ini berasal dari Maroko, dengan pengecualian kolom granit putih dan chandelier kaca yang diimpor dari Murano, dekat Venice, Italia.

Lebih dari 6.000 pengrajin Maroko mengerjakan masjid ini dengan bahan-bahan lokal. Keseluruhan dekorasi yang menghiasi masjid sangat rumit. Proyek besar ini diperkirakan menelan biaya US$800 juta

Masjid Hassan II mempunyai ruang ibadah yang terpisah bagi laki-laki dan perempuan. Ruang ibadah ini sangat luas dengan hamparan karpet berwarna merah yang membentang.

Masjid ini terbuka untuk seluruh umat Islam bila ingin beribadah. Khusus pengunjung non-muslim bisa memasuki masjid pada tur yang berlangsung beberapa kali sehari dalam bahasa Inggris.

Untuk kunjungan wisata dengan pemandu, masjid ini buka setiap hari Sabtu-Kamis mulai pukul 9.00-14.00 waktu setempat. Orang dewasa dikenakan biaya 100dh (sekitar Rp110 ribu) dan anak-anak 50dh (sekitar Rp55 ribu).(*/X-12)

Mengunjungi Keraton Termegah di Cirebon

HARI Raya Idul Fitri, lebih kurang tinggal satu minggu lagi. Sebagian dari Anda tentunya sudah mempunyai rencana untuk mudik. Masa bersilaturahmi ini juga bisa digabungkan dengan waktu berlibur. Nah, jika tujuan mudik Anda adalah Cirebon, Keraton Kasepuhan bisa dijadikan tempat untuk berwisata.

Keraton Kasepuhan adalah keraton termegah dan paling terawat di Cirebon. Halaman depan keraton ini dikelilingi tembok bata merah dan terdapat pendopo didalamnya. Makna di setiap sudut arsitektur keraton yang didirikan pada 1529 oleh Pangeran Mas Mochammad Arifin II ini pun terkenal paling bersejarah.

Di areal keraton juga ada sebuah museum yang cukup lengkap dan berisi benda pusaka serta lukisan koleksi kerajaan. Salah satu koleksi yang dikeramatkan yaitu kereta Singa Barong. Kereta ini saat ini tidak lagi dipergunakan dan hanya dikeluarkan pada tiap 1 Syawal untuk dimandikan.

Bagian dalam keraton ini terdiri dari bangunan utama yang berwarna putih. Didalamnya terdapat ruang tamu, ruang tidur dan singgasana raja.

Oiya, sebelum memasuki keraton, tepat di bagian depannya, Anda akan menemukan alun-alun yang pada zaman dahulu bernama Alun-alun Sangkala Buana. Alun-alun ini dahulu digunakan sebagai tempat latihan keprajuritan dan tempat pelaksanaan berbagai macam hukuman bagi rakyat yang melanggar peraturan.

Beralih ke sebelah barat keraton, Anda akan menemukan masjid yang cukup megah hasil karya dari para wali yaitu Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa. Sedangkan di sebelah timur alun-alun dahulunya adalah tempat perekonomian yaitu pasar kesepuhan yang sangat terkenal dengan pocinya.

Model bentuk keraton yang menghadap utara dengan bangunan Masjid di sebelah barat dan pasar di sebelah timur serta alun-alun ditengahnya merupakan model-model keraton pada masa itu terutama yang terletak di daerah pesisir.

Perjalanan ke komplek Keraton Kasepuhan dimulai, sebelum memasuki gerbang, Anda akan menemukan dua buah pendopo. Pendopo di sebelah barat disebut Pancaratna yang dahulunya merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para punggawa Keraton. Sedangkan di sebelah timur disebut Pancaniti yang merupakan tempat para perwira keraton.

Memasuki jalan kompleks keraton, di sebelah kiri, terdapat bangunan yang cukup tinggi dengan tembok bata kokoh disekelilingnya. Bangunan ini bernama Siti Inggil atau dalam bahasa Cirebon adalah lemah duwur yaitu tanah yang tinggi.

Siti Inggil memiliki dua gapura dengan motif bentar bergaya arsitek zaman Majapahit. Di sebelah utara bernama Gapura Adi sedangkan di sebelah selatan bernama Gapura Banteng. Dibawah Gapura Banteng ini terdapat Candra Sakala dengan tulisan Kuta Bata Tinata Banteng yang jika diartikan adalah tahun 1451. Sesuai dengan namanya bangunan ini memang tinggi dan nampak seperti kompleks candi pada zaman Majapahit. Bangunan ini didirikan pada tahun 1529, pada masa pemerintahan Syekh Syarif Hidayatullah (Sunan Gunung Jati).

Di pelataran depan Siti Inggil terdapat meja batu berbentuk segi empat yang merupakan tempat bersantai. Bangunan ini merupakan bangunan tambahan yang dibuat pada 1800-an.

Jika setelah bersilaturahmi, Anda ingin mengajak keluarga jalan-jalan, keraton ini merupakan tempat yang tepat terutama untuk anak-anak karena mereka bisa belajar mengenai sejarah dan budaya Cirebon.

Misteri Candi Muara Takus yang masih Terputus

BATU bata putih setinggi kira-kira 60cm dari permukaan tanah mengelilingi gugusan candi Muara Takus. Arsitektur bangunan candi dalam genre Budha itu terlihat anggun dengan adanya stupa, yang merupakan lambang Budha Gautama.

Setiap menyambut perayaan Waisak, teras-teras candi selalu dipenuhi oleh ratusan umat Budha dari berbagai daerah bahkan ada yang datang dari negara tetangga untuk melaksanakan ritual. Teras-teras candi Muara Takus ini mirip dengan candi Borobudur. Hanya saja material yang digunakan oleh candi ini adalah batu bata merah yang berbentuk persegi panjang dan pipih.

Pengaruh kerajaan Sriwijaya disebut-sebut sangat dominan dalam bentuk bangunan candi yang memiliki puncak stupa sebagai lambang Budhistis. Dalam sejarahnya, Kerajaan Sriwijaya adalah suatu kerajaan maritim yang ibukotanya selalu berpindah-pindah dan sampai saat ini belum diketahui secara pasti.

Namun secara rinci gugusan candi muara takus dapat dilihat dari beberapa konstruksi bangunannya yang meliputi Candi Mahligai yang memiliki pondasi dasar berbentuk bujursangkar. Di atasnya terdapat pondamen bersegi delapan (astokoma) dan memiliki 28 sisi. Kemudian berdiri di atasnya sebuah menara setinggi 14.30m.

Pada 1860, penemu candi Muara Takus, Cornet De Groot mendapati teratai berganda dan patung singa dalam posisi duduk pada setiap sisi alasnya. Namun kini sudah tidak dijumpai lagi.

Dalam deretan wilayah Candi Muara Takus terdapat Candi Bungsu yang pada 1988 diougar dan selesai pada 1990. Ukurannya 7,50 x 16.28 meter dengan tinggi setelah dipugar menjadi 6,20 meter dari permukaan tanah. Dijumpai juga Candi Palangka yang juga sudah dipugar pada 1987 dan selesai pada 1989. Kemudian juga tedapat Candi Tua sebagai candi terbesar diantara candi-candi yang ada di sekitarnya.

Seorang tokoh agama Budha Riau, Sidarta menceritakan Muara Takus termasuk sebagai candi terbesar dan dikenal sebagai situs umat Budha dunia yang menjadi referensi.

Hal ini diketahuinya tidak sekadar dari catatan sejarah, namun dari banyaknya ia mendampingi Rinpoce dari Tibet (sekelas Lama atau disebut titisan Biku melalui reinkarnasi yang bisa menikah), yang selalu ingin melaksanakan ritual ibadah di Candi Muara Takus.

Kubah Bawang Masjid Baiturrahman

DI antara sekian banyak bangunan yang hancur pada peristiwa tsunami Aceh pada 2004, salah satu bangunan yang masih bertahan adalah Masjid Baiturrahman. Selain tempat untuk beribadah, masjid ini begitu penting karena nila sejarah yang menyertainya.

Saat berkunjung ke ibu kota provinsi, Banda Aceh, sempatkanlah berkunjung ke Masjid Baiturrahman karena masjid ini merupakan karya agung Islam dan lansekap utama dari tanah Rencong.

Arsitektur Masjid Raya Baiturrahman memang berbeda dengan masjid-masjid pada umumnya. Masjid ini merupakan salah satu masjid terindah di Indonesia yang memiliki bentuk yang manis, ukiran menarik, dan halaman luas. Ada lima kubah berbentuk bawang, dua menara yang menjulang tinggi, dinding putih yang luas dan pilar dengan desain yang indah dalam gaya India Moghul Utara.

Masjid megah ini dirancang oleh seorang arsitek Italia dan dibangun oleh pemerintah kolonial Belanda sebagai tanda rekonsiliasi karena masjid tua yang ada sebelumnya hancur selama perang Aceh.

Dalam pembangunan awal, hanya memiliki kubah tunggal yang diselesaikan pada 27 Desember 1883. Kemudian pada 1935, masjid yang terletak di jantung kota ini diperluas. Dua kubah baru dibangun sehingga menjadi tiga kubah. Pembangunan terakhir pada 1959-1968, diperluas lagi menjadi lima kubah.

Sekarang memiliki tujuh kubah dan delapan menara, termasuk yang diklaim sebagai menara tertinggi di Banda Aceh. Saat ini, masjid memiliki 32 pilar dan mencakup luas lebih dari 1.500 meter persegi.

Lokasi Masjid Baiturrahman dulunya merupakan bekas masjid Kerajaan Aceh. Sewaktu Belanda menyerang Kota Banda Aceh pada 1873, masjid ini dibakar, kemudian pada 1875 Belanda membangun kembali sebuah masjid sebagai penggantinya.

Banyak warga Aceh awalnya menolak untuk berdoa di Baiturrahman, karena dibangun oleh orang-orang kafir Belanda dengan ambisi untuk menaklukkan Aceh, tetapi kini Masjid Baiturrahman merupakan kebanggaan Banda Aceh.

Pada 2004, Masjid ini terselamatkan dari gempa dan tsunami tetapi mengalami beberapa kerusakan kecil. Sedangkan menara setinggi 35 meter dengan gerbang utama sekarang agak miring dan retak.

Untuk menikmati objek wisata di sekitar masjid, waktu terbaik adalah selama shalat Jumat, ketika seluruh masjid dan halaman penuh dengan orang.

Letaknya yang strategis membuat masjid ini mudah dicapai. Anda bisa menggunakan taksi atau angkutan umum Labi-Labi (transportasi lokal dengan menggunakan minibus / van). Atau Anda dapat menyewa seorang pengendara motoped.

Pura Cantik dari Desa Men

PURA tumbuh subur di Bali. Ini dimungkinkan karena Hindu merupakan agama yang diyakini oleh mayoritas penduduk Bali. Salah satu bangunan keagamaan yang bisa Anda kunjungi saat berlibur disana ialah Pura Taman Ayun di Desa Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali.

Dibangun pada 1634 M oleh raja pertama Kerajaan Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Ngurah Made Agung yang bergelar Ida Cokorda Sakti Belambangan, pura ini berfungsi sebagai tempat ibadah keluarga raja dan para pengikutnya.

Namun ada perbedaan antara Pura Taman Ayun dengan pura lainnya di Bali. Jika biasanya pura-pura lain berkiblat pada Gunung Agung, Pura Taman Ayun justru berkiblat ke Gunung Batukau. Meskipun berbeda, Anda tetap bisa merasakan nuansa peribadatan yang tenang di Pura Taman Ayun.

Mengenai nama Taman Ayun sendiri, dalam bahasa Bali mempunyai arti taman yangcantik. Kecantikannya terpancar di antara komplek bangunan seluas 4 hektar yangdikelilingi kolam atau parit. Dari kejauhan, parit tersebut menyerupai gelang air danmemberikan kesan bahwa pura ini berada di atas permukaan air. Di sekeliling pura juga terdapat rerimbunan pohon dan bunga-bunga yang menambah elok suasana.

Komplek Pura Taman Ayun terdiri dari tiga bagian. Bagian pertama adalah ruang terbuka yang digunakan untuk berbagai kegiatan religius dan panggung kesenian. Pada bagian pertama ini pengunjung dapat menikmati indahnya susunan meru, yaitu pagoda dengan atap bertingkat-tingkat khas bangunan pura di Bali.

Bagian kedua adalah bangunan utama, yaitu sebuah gedung bernama Bale Pelik. Gedung ini dihiasi oleh seni ukir, relief, serta patung Dewa Nawa Sanga yang sangat menawan. Sedangkan bagian lainnya merupakan bangunan-bangunan yang diperuntukkan bagi dewa dan dewi yang disakralkan dalam agama Hindu.

Selain menikmati keindahan arsitektur bangunan dan pemandangan indah di sekitar kompleks Pura Taman Ayun., Anda juga dapat melihat-lihat peninggalan Kerajaan Mengwi yang berada sekitar 300 meter dari pura.

Di seberang pura juga terdapat Museum Manusa Yadnya, yaitu museum yang memamerkan upacara-upacara yang berkaitan dengan siklus kehidupan manusia mulai dari berada dalam kandungan sampai meninggal.

Dari kota Denpasar jarak Desa Mengwi, tempat Pura Taman Ayun berada, kurang-lebih 18 kilometer menuju arah barat laut. Untuk menuju Desa Mengwi, Anda dapat mengikuti rute angkutan umum (bus/bemo) jurusan Denpasar/Singaraja atau Denpasar/Bedugul dengan waktu perjalanan sekitar 25 menit.

KEMILAU emas dan dihiasi dengan berlian, Pagoda Shwedagon atau Shwedagon Paya setinggi 98 meter, adalah sebuah karya spektakuler dari arsitektur kuil Burma dan merupakan kuil Budha paling suci di Yangon dan seluruh Myanmar.

Pagoda Schwedagon berdiri di atas lahan seluas 5 hektare di atas bukit yang mempunyai ketinggian 58 meter di atas permukaan laut. Lebih tepatnya di sebelah barat Danau Kandawgyi, bukit Singuttara. Dengan ketinggian ini, Anda bisa melihat Pagoda Schwedagon dari hampir seluruh penjuru kota.

Di dalam kompleks pagoda, Anda akan menemukan empat jalan setapak tertutup yang mengarah ke mimbar pagoda. Baik pintu masuk selatan dan utara mempunyai pilihan lift atau tangga, sedangkan pintu masuk barat terdapat eskalator.

Untuk merasakan suasana yang ontentik, Anda bisa masuk melalui tangga timur karena akan melewati biara dan berbagai pedagang yang menjual kebutuhan biara.

Bila mencari jalur terdekat dari pintu masuk utama, Anda bisa menemukannya dari Jalan Schwedagon Paya di pintu masuk selatan. Pintu masuk ini dijaga oleh dua chinthe setinggi 18 kaki (mitos singa-naga). Anda harus melepas sepatu dan kaus kaki sebelum menaiki tangganya.

Selama melewati tangga, Anda akan melihat toko yang menjual bunga (baik yang asli dan kertas) untuk persembahan, gambar Buddha, dupa, barang antik dan barang-barang lainnya. Ketika matahari bersinar cerah, Anda akan merasakan pancaran warna yang luar biasa saat melangkah menuju bagian puncak kompleks kuil.

Bangunan utama yang menjadi pusat perhatian seluruh pengunjung di kompleks Pagoda Schwedagon adalah Stupa besar. Jalur tikar diletakkan di sekitarnya untuk melindungi kaki para pengunjung marmer panas yang panas.

Stupa besar itu benar-benar padat dan setiap inci ditutupi dengan emas. Sementara bagian atasnya ditaburi dengan berlian dengan total lebih dari 2.000 karat.

Stupa utama didukung sebuah alas persegi yang berdiri setinggi 6,4 meter di atas panggung. Pengaturan ini terpisah dari stupa lainnya. Pada panggung tersebut, Anda akan melihat stupa-stupa kecil dimana yang berukuran paling besar berdiri di empat arah mata angin, ukuran sedang di empat sudut, dan 60 stupa kecil lainnya di sekitar perimeter.

Selain stupa utama, masih ada beberapa bagian lain yang menarik untuk dilihat dalam balutan arsitektur yang unik dan khas. Ditambah nuansa emas di hampir keseluruhan kompleks pagoda, Anda senantiasa akan berdecak kagum.

Keliling Kastil Nijo di Kyoto

JEPANG memang terkenal dengan kastil-kastil kunonya yang indah dan khas, salah satunya adalah Kastil Nijo yang bisa Anda temukan jika berlibur ke kota Kyoto. Di kastil inilah shogun terakhir, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, mengembalikan kekaisaran ke tempat kekuasaan kunonya pada 1867.

Seperti kastil-kastil di Jepang pada umumnya, Anda akan melihat keteraturan dan taman yang indah di dalamnya, berikut bangunan dengan arsitektur Jepang kuno tentunya.

Kastil Nijo terdiri dua cincin konsentris benteng yaitu Istana Ninomaru dan reruntuhan Istana Honmaru. Selain itu, kastil seluas 8.000 meter persegi ini didukung beberapa bangunan dan taman yang indah.

Di Istana Ninomaru seluas 3300 meter persegi, Anda akan menemukan dekorasi mewah dengan hiasan daun emas dan ukiran kayu yang rumit. Ini dimaksudkan untuk mengesankan pengunjung dengan kekuatan dan kekayaan para shogun. Pintu geser dan masing-masing dinding ruangan dihiasi lukisan seniman dari sekolah Kano.

Beralih ke Istana Honmaru yang memiliki luas 1600 meter persegi, Anda akan menemukan empat bagian yaitu kamar tamu, ruang resepsi dan hiburan, ruang masuk dan area dapur. Daerah yang berbeda dihubungkan oleh koridor dan halaman.

Gaya arsitektur Istana Honmaru berasal dari akhir periode Edo. Di dalam istana ini, Anda juga bisa melihat lukisan dari beberapa pelukis terkenal Jepang, seperti Kano Eigaku.

Selain istana, Kastil Nijo memiliki beberapa taman dan kebun yang berisi pohon ceri dan ume. Ada Taman Ninomaru yang memiliki kolam besar dengan fitur tiga pulau dengan susunan bebatuan yang tertata rapi dan pohon-pohon pinus.

Ada juga Taman Seiryu-en yang merupakan bagian terbaru dari Kastil Nijo. Taman yang dibangun pada 1965 ini berada di bagian utara kompleks dan berfungsi sebagai sarana untuk penerimaan tamu resmi kota Kyoto serta tempat pertunjukan budaya.

Berkunjung ke Museum Seni Islam
SAAT berplesiran ke Doha yang merupakan ibukota Qatar, sempatkanlah berkunjung ke museum seni Islam yang memadukan unsur tradisional Islam dengan arsitektur abad ke 21 sehingga menghasilkan efek yang spektakuler.

Adalah Sabhia Al Khemir, seorang penulis terkenal Tunisia yang menjadi direktur pendiri museum. Museum ini diharapkan dapat memberi pengetahuan tentang Islam dan sejarahnya

Museum ini memiliki luas total 45.000 meter persegi dan terletak di tepi pelabuhan Doha di ujung selatan Teluk Doha. Struktur bangunan museum selesai pada 2006, tapi interiornya mengalami perubahan setelahnya. Museum yang tampak anggun berdiri di pinggir lautan ini dibuka pada bulan Desember 2008.

Logistics are maximised through NTIC, introducing the concept and reality of a networked hospital.

Transparent bridges connect the three main buildings(one building for lodging, a technical centre and an administrative centre) ventilated with punctual green patios and water pools. Lightness, openness and transparency are accentuated by a flat roof floating over the architectural mass. Public and mixed-use spaces are generously distributed, filled with natural light, allowing interaction and dialogue, and reinforcing the definition of the hospital as a living space. Lodging will be the symbol: a large glass blade set forward and placed in the park. The building’s spatial design combines the requirements of a hotel with the flexibility of constant change. Each floor is a great modular plateau incorporating strategic and structural elements, such as care centres and logistic clusters. The plateaus will be ventilated by three large patios, which thrust the park inside the hospital itself.

The Arras Hospital pays particular attention to environmental quality through a system of natural renewable energy – the double skin façade creates a ventilating buffer space between the interior and the exterior. Closed in winter, opened in summer, the louvers allow natural heating and aeration according to the seasons. The light façade will blend with the environment by both reflecting the trees and through its function. It will be comprised of adjustable glass vanes cladding the building and creating a ventilated buffer zone between the inside and the outside. These vanes will close in winter and conduct the natural heat of the sun. In summer the vanes will be open to ventilate the inner façades and prevent excess heating.

The Peterborough Regional Health Centre was designed by Stantec Architecture Ltd is located in Peterborough, in a geographic region north-east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the Kawartha Region. Characterised by rolling hills, rugged geography, lakes and marshland, communities within the Kawarthas grew around crossroads or corners. Peterborough is a rich urban community that has it’s roots in one such “crossroads”. The Peterborough Regional Health Centre project is a full service healthcare facility offering 500 inpatient beds and full diagnostic and treatment facilities including rehabilitation, intensive care, emergency services, surgical services, ambulatory care and support services.

The concept for Peterborough Regional Health Centre is rooted in this idea of ‘crossroads’; the intersection of two paths. The east-west path establishes the main entrance and lobby space, and is given material presence through locally quarried stone. Upon entrance from the west, visitors are immediately visually reconnected to the panoramic view of the city and regional geography to the east. The north-south path provides the prime circulation spine on all six levels and is expressed in a warm charcoal grey concrete block. The program simply builds around these two ’crossroad’ elements leaving them always legible as the principle organizing device. The north-south spine passes through landscaped courtyards like “the bridges” of Peterborough, connecting the city across the Otonabee River.

The idea is about being connected to and reflective of the community as a means of generating a sense of wellness, familiarity and comfort. The visual connection to the rolling hills of the Kawarthas upon entry, the constant views to the community and landscape throughout the facility, The “Bridges of Peterborough” that provide light, view and orientation are all ideas about creating a sense of belonging, connection, familiarity and stress reduction.

Architecture design for health is about lifting the spirit through connection, landscape, order, light and material. PRHC, since opening, has become a community meeting place. Many visitors are there to experience the views from the lobby, the cafeteria or the landscaped roof terrace and perhaps to have a coffee and social contact. Being truly connected to its community, PRHC provides positive distractions that reduce the stress related to the experience of healthcare. Interior courtyards punctuate the building mass along the north-south circulation spine drawing natural light deep into the building and providing visual connection to the exterior. Designed by Duran & Hermida Arquitectos, the Edificio Jacobo is located in Cuenca at 2500m over the sea level, the third biggest city in Ecuador, where the sun comes down perpendicularly, with 23 degrees of variation in the equinoxes of June and December. Cuenca is located in the Andes, where the average temperature is15 degree Celsius during the day, but it drops considerably at night. The building has one apartment per floor, with the exception of the third floor where the space is divided between a small apartment and an office. The ground floor is occupied by the garages in the front, and an apartment at the back which gets light and sun from a courtyard facing east.

The building system is quick and efficient: we proposed three supporting brick walls with a distance of 6m between them. The bricks measured 20×40x8cm and were fabricated especially for this project. To the exterior the finish was only one layer of painting. The slabs were built with pre tensed concrete 6m beams. This building system allowed us not to use columns and to have two big areas where spaces could be distributed freely and uses could change for future needs. The west facade has movable panels used as shades, these panels are made out of steel frames and wooden blinds that prevent the laundry area to be seen from the outside and protect the social spaces from being bothered by the late afternoon sun. The mobility of the panels provides different shades and sights of the building, as users can locate them wherever they want.

A new way of understanding and living the domestic space is proposed. Until now, in Ecuador, family activities were separated, kids had their rooms, women worked in the kitchen and social areas where meant for visitors. In this building interior spaces are always related, creating the sensation of infinity, where families can share all the activities in a democratic way and where all members are important and have the same status. The goal was to achieve the highest levels in the building process and in the quality of spaces, adjusting costs to the local market prices. This meant that many of the solutions had to be invented because locally there are not any industries that can provide this kind of techniques. The final construction cost was 300 dollars per square meter, which is a very competitive price and accessible for a high number of Ecuadorians.

The Mountain Dwellings, a contemporary housing building was designed by architect Jakob Lange, Bjarke Ingels Group is located in Orestad city and offer the best of two worlds: closeness to the hectic city life in the centre of Copenhagen, and the tranquillity characteristic of suburban life, in Denmark. The Mountain Dwellings are the 2nd generation of the VM Houses, same client, same size and same street. The Mountain Dwellings appear as a suburban neighbourhood of garden homes flowing over a 10-storey building - suburban living with urban density.

The residents of the 80 apartments will be the first in Orestaden to have the possibility of parking directly outside their homes. The gigantic parking area contains 480 parking spots and a sloping elevator that moves along the mountain’s inner walls. In some places the ceiling height is up to 16 meters which gives the impression of a cathedral-like space. The roof gardens consist of a terrace and a garden with plants changing character according to the changing seasons. The building has a huge watering system which maintains the roof gardens. The only thing that separates the apartment and the garden is a glass façade with sliding doors to provide light and fresh air.

The north and west facades are covered by perforated aluminium plates, which let in air and light to the parking area. The holes in the facade form a huge reproduction of Mount Everest. At day the holes in the aluminium plates will appear black on the bright aluminium, and the gigantic picture will resemble that of a rough rasterized photo. At night time the facade will be lit from the inside and appear as a photo negative in different colours as each floor in the parking area has different colours.

The Mountain by emerging architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has been selected as a winner of an Urban Land Institute (ULI) 2009 Award for Excellence: Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) competition. The Awards for Excellence competition is widely regarded as the land use industry’s most prestigious recognition program and the award adds to success for the project at several other prestigious architecture competitions. “After winning the Housing category at last year’s World Architecture Festival in Barcelona and being shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2009 and receiving the 2009 MIPIM Award we are becoming aware of the fact, that other people appreciate this building too. So we are very proud and honored, to have been acknowledged by the ULI EMEA,” said founding partner Bjarke Ingels.

artinya, pikirkan baik2 keputusan anda, bahwa yang sedang anda kerjakan saat ini, akan menentukan dihasilnya nanti, bila bagus hasill proyek ini, anda akan menikmatinya sampai puluhan tahun. Dan bila "sekadarnya" maka selama itu pula sewaktu anda tinggal didalamnya, anda akan berkata "kenapa dulu saya tidak 'mati-matian' ya membuat rumah ini sempurna?"....
