Two of the best light heavyweights in the game clash on Sunday, March 21, when Muay Thai expert Brandon The Truth Vera takes on dangerous 22-year-old Jon Bones Jones at the 1STBANK Center (formerly Odeum Colorado) in Broomfield, Colorado. Also as a great bonus the fight card presents Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos against Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga, both incredible heavyweight fighters that I am sure will give us quite a show.

Location: 1STBANK Center, Broomfield, Colorado.
Date: 03/21/2010.
Time: 9 PM EST

Brandon “The Truth” Vera was born in Norfolk, Virginia but he’s fighting out of San Diego which is not odd since most of the MMA experts look at California as the state to grow on the sport. At age 32 he is looking to give us another great show using his excellent skills in muay thai and awesome grappling technics that could be very useful againsxt a natural wrestler like Jones. Vera combines a great use of knees, elbows and overall kicks that could knock anyone out at any given time, this could be his most useful weapon to keep Jones away at least for a while. Vera’s grappling technics are also very good but in this fight it will not be convenient to use a close body contact tactic since Jones will be able to flip him in any way he can so the best for Vera will be to kick and punch as fast as possible to keep Jones guessing what will be next. Brandon “The Truth” Vera lost his last fight against veteran Randy “The Natural” Couture by unanimous decision and it was a close fight but I am wondering if he has actually bounced back from that dissapointing match.

Jon “Bones” Jones is a world class wrestler that a young age started in the MMA world and surprised everyone. At age 22 Jones has great skills as we mentioned in wrestling but also he completes the package with a set of Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai technics that could give him the edge. He can throw kicks and punches like the rest of fighters but he will be a real threat when he fights close to his opponent, his ground work is very complete for someone so young and I believe he will based his strategy on that, trying to bring Vera to the ground and go to work on him. The KO looks very hard since both fighters will have different agendas but I cannot deny the possibility of a Submission, basically the fight could go all the way if Vera takes care of himself and doesn’t let Jones get too close. Jones was born on Rochester, Ny and he fights out of Endicott, NY. Jones got disqualified in his last fight against Matt Hamill in heavyweight division so he dropped some of that weight and now he will make a move on the best of the Lightheavyweight scene. At his young age Jones has only won 9 fights and lost 1 so this could be the beginning of a great UFC career.

The other interesting event will be a heavyweight fight between Junior Dos Santos age 26 and Gabriel Gonzaga age 30. Now this fight is not the main event but I believe it will be equally exciting, both fighters are super strong, they have great boxing skills and the could knock eachother out in a heart beat. This will be a typical heavyweight match and i expect to see no more than two rounds, these events usually are quick, someone will get their lights out before the 2nd round is over.

FIGHT ODDS

BRANDON VERA +200
JON JONES -240

JUNIOR DOS SANTOS -255
GABRIEL GONZAGA +215

My prediction for the main event is a tough one. Vera has the experience on his side but Jones is a better ground fighter so that makes me think twice about it. Vera could go all out in the first round but Jones can hold him easily by throwing him to the floor and work with him the rest of the time. My pick will be Jon “Bones” Jones -240. In the other match my pick will be Gabriel Gonzaga since he has more experience and hehas better skills than Dos Santos. My pick will be Gabriel Gonzaga +215.

HERE IS THE REST OF THE FIGHT CARD FOR THE EVENING:

Cheick Kongo VS. Paul Buentello
Alessio Sakara VS. James Irvin
Duane Ludwig VS. Spencer Fisher
Clay Guida VS. Shannon Gugerty
Eliot Marshall VS. Vladimir Matyushenko
John Howard VS. Daniel Roberts
Brendan Schaub VS. Chase Gormley
Mike Pierce VS. Rob Kimmons
Eric Schafer VS. Jason Brilz

The Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas is the venue of the said fight with a seating capacity that will reach up to 80,000 , but Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum said that he can easily fill it up with 50,0000 people for the fight and that might not be enough to get all Pac-Man fans in the place. Now that Dallas Stadium has become the mecca of all major events in the US may be the boxing matches like this one in particular will become high attraction for the people of Texas and the near by cities.

Location: Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Arlington Texas
Time: 11 PM EST.

Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxing fighters in history and the fact that they couldn’t agree in the fight with the best of the best welterweight boxer in the World Floyd Mayweather Jr. and this could be the chance for Manny to show everyone that he can beat anyone at any place and any time and that he’s a clean fighter free of drugs or any enhancement medications like steriods. Manny Pacquiao born December 17th, 1978 at Kibawe, Bukidnon, Mindanao in Philippines is considered by Ring magazine the best pound for pound boxer in the Globe and that is quite an assumption because of the fact that he didn’t get to fight the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. His record right now shows 50-3-2 with 38 KO’s and he’s currently the WBO World Welterweight Champion and Ring magazine Light Welterweight Champion. He is also a former WBC World lightweight champion, WBC World Super featherweight Champion, IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion, WBC World Flyweight champion. He’s the first boxer in history to win 7 world titles in seven different weight classes. In addition, he is the only boxer to win the lineal championship (”the man who beat the man”) in four different weight classes. Well besides all his tittles the guy does pretty much everything, he’s also involve in politics, filmmaking and music recording so it sounds like he is quite the business man. he trains hard and his power comes from multiple combinations and basically for this fight he has trained like a real champ, taking it seriously on and off the ring. I know there are many rumours that manny couldn’t go up 7 weight classes without any extra help from any restricted substances but for me the guy looks as clean as one can be as a professional athlete, he doesn’t need the help in my opinion, he has plenty of boxing to beat just about anyone so his mayor concern will be to re-establish the trust of his fans. In my opinion the guy took some steriods because it is very hard to go up 50 pounds in muscle weight without any extra juice without losing any strenght or speed, and incrementing his overall power but some people think he’s a gifted athlete, I guess because of the lack of prove we will go with the second opinion.

Joshua Cottley born in March 16th, 1976 in Accra, Ghana gets to climb in the ring with the best of the best in Welterweight and he’s planning to make the best of the opportunity. His current record is 35-3-1 with 20 KO’s. Clottey rose to prominence by winning his first twenty fights, including 14 by knockout. His performance set him up to fight Carlos Baldomir, in a title defense by Baldomir for the WBC International Welterweight Title. Clottey lost by disqualification in a controversial fight. Clottey was winning the fight until the 10th round, where he was penalized two points for an intentional head butt. After that fiasco he rose from that embarrasing performance he won 10 straight fights culminating in an IBF Intercontinental Welterweight title. Then he got his big shot to the title against Antonio Margarito but broke his hand in the 4th round and ended up losing the fight by unanimous decision and he proved to the boxing world he is a worthy opponent. He also lost against Miguel Cotto but the fighter has never lost by KO against anyone so we might want to keep that on our minds since this fight could go all the way. The fight will be the highlight of Cottley’s career so he will try as hard as possible to knock Pacquiao who haven’t lost a fight in a while.

FIGHT ODDS

MANNY PACQUIAO -500
JOSHUA COTTLEY +400

THE PREDICTION WILL BE AN EASY ONE. THE FACT THAT COTTLEY IS HUNGRY FOR A TITLE MAKES HIM UNPREDICTABLE IN SO MANY LEVELS AND HIS REACH IS BETTER SINCE HE IS A REAL WELTERWEIGHT WHILE PACQUIAO BUT MANNY HAS CLASS AND HE WILL NOT BE EASILY DEFEATED. MY PICK WILL BE MANNY PACQUIAO -500 TO WIN BY DECISION.

The UFC takes Australia by storm for the first time and fans will be treated to explosive matchups featuring two early Fight of The Year candidates. In the main event, a world heavyweight title shot is on the line when unbeaten Cain Velasquez takes on former UFC and PRIDE champion Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira. Plus, UK superstar Michael The Count Bisping hopes to spoil the middleweight debut of the legendary Axe Murderer, Wanderlei Silva.

Location: ACER Arena, Sidney, Australia.
Time: 10 PM ET
Date: February 20th

This will be the first time the Ultimate Fighting Championship travels to the Down under land and the fans couldn’t be more excited about it. This is a very expected match between two great fighters, the challenger a youngster dying to prove he is worth it against a made champ like Nogueira that has won in many countries and has a lot of experience.

Minotauro Nogueira at age 33 has proven to the World that he belongs in the ellite of UFC and MMA. Fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil he will travel to Australia to face a young fighter that in my opinion is still not mature enough for this kind of challenge. Nogueira best attributes are incredible stamina which means he really trains like the champ he is, awesome jiu-jitsu skills that usually help him win fights and to complete a well-rounded fighter superb boxing skills that are tough to match. Minotauro’s MMA record is 32-5-1 with 1 no contest and with those numbers it’s very hard to imagine a fair competition. Nogueira has won 3 of his last 4 fights against big names like Randy Couture, Tim Sylvia and Heath Herring so that could be considered a good message to Velazquez “watch the hands and better move quick”. Some ranks and titles Nogueira have held are Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion. WEC Title in 1999, Rings 16 man tournament 2000, PRIDE Heavyweight Belt. Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo (received both in 1999).

Cain Velazquez still undefeated with a record of 7-0-0 fighting out of San Jose, California but born in Salinas, California represents Nogueira’s chance to be back in the spotlight since he will be fighting against an undefeated well rounded and younger fighter. Velazquez at age 27 has same weight as Minotauro but the reach will be a problem since Nogueira it’s a bit taller so the logic indicates a close fight body to body but Nogueira is too experienced for that so Velazquez will have to come up with something incredibly clever if he wants this match to go in his favor. The scenario is set and since Velazquez won 4 out of his last 5 fights by technical knockout there will be no surprise if he tries to do the same to Nogueira but he has to be careful not to put down his guard and let Nogueira get too close or it will be over for Velazquez by submission.

FIGHT ODDS

ANTONIO NOGUEIRA +105
CAIN VELAZQUEZ -125

The prediction could be a long fight with an unanimous decision, i don’t believe it will be a Ko since both fighters are in awesome shape and their skills won’t allow the opponent to get too close to be able to win by submission or TKO. In my opinion Nogueira has more experience and he has more skills in his side o the point here is how much punishment can Velazquez take. My pick will be Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira +105 to win by unanimous decision.

THE REST OF THE FIGHT CARD LOOKS LIKE THIS:

Wanderlei Silva Vs. Michael Bispin
Joe stevenson Vs. George Sotiropoulos
Keith Jardine Vs. Ryan Bader
Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Ben Rothwell
Elvis Sinosic Vs. Chris Haseman
Stephan Bonnar Vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
Chris Lytle Vs. Brian Foster
CB Dollaway Vs.Goran Reljic
James Te Huna Vs. Igor Pokrajac

The two best teams in this 09/10 NFL season meet for the first time since 1993. Both teams accomplished great records and clinch the spot on playoffs as No.1 of each conference and now they go to the big Dance. This will be a highly offensive Superbowl, both teams have great play-makers and since it’s the first time the Saints are on it, they will try to make the best of it.

6:25 PM ET, February 07, 2010
Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL
CBS

New Orleans Saints are having the best season of the team’s history. The Saints at week 14 were flirting with perfection when the beat Atlanta Falcons on the road but at week 15 they stumble and quite hard against Dallas Cowboys and the dream of a perfect regular season was over. On week 16 they fell under Tampa Bay Buccaneers on overtime and after this the team got lost on offense and defense. It was a terrible sight to see a team that at week 14 had it all now at week 16 looked like lost children on the field. They finished at week 17 with another loss against Carolina Panthers on the road and that was it, the team got re-organized, they rebuilt the offense and they woke the defense up so the team started to practice at a whole new level. Saints gave us a great show against Arizona Cardinals and yesterday an amazing show against Minnesota Vikings so the team looks solid in defense and offense. QB Drew Brees numbers are really impressive and we all know he is not as flashy as Manning but he can get the work done. The main advantage Saints have is the superb running game they have. At this moment New Orleans have three running backs that could easily bring the scale on their side, these guys can score and chew the clock like no other in the NFL so this might be the strategy the Saints need to be the Superbowl champs. Other players involved in offense are RB Pierre Thomas, RB Mike Bell, RB Reggie Bush, WR Marques Colston and WR Devery Henderson. Saints have the perfect combination between offense by air and by grown so the key here will be the use of the running game to control the clock and the air strike only when they are looking at 3rd and long or similar situations. The air defense will be the only thing they need to polish and quick, they need to put pressure on Manning if they want to be the next champs.

Indianapolis Colts gave the rookies of New York Jets a valuable lesson, it ain’t over til it’s over, right? Well The Colts were down at the half but it seems like the team jumped on to the field at the second half with renewed strength and the contribution of the defense which we all know is one of the worst on the whole NFL gave the necessary leverage they needed to finish strong and beat the Jets and take the AFC Title one more time. The regular season record for the Colts was 14-2 but the difference was that for the last three games the Colts played with bench players, they didn’t risk any of the stars so the losses are not as significant as the Saints. The team is a well oiled machine and everyone knows what to do so basically they have been ready for this moment since the beginning of the season. Some players involved in offense are QB Peyton Manning, RB Joseph Addai, RB Donald Brown, WR Reggie Wayne and TE Dallas Clark. Everyone knows that Indianapolis is all pass no run but since Addai scored 10 times in the regular season he could be very useful on this game and they will sure need him. The key for the Colts will be the same, try to stop the superior running game from the Saints, limit them to the air only and also let Manning do his thing, give him enough time to put the ball where he wants it and where he needs it. Latest news indicate that DE Dwight Freeney didn’t practice the whole week and he will not play on this Superbowl so this could cost the game for the Colts.

GAME ODDS

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 56
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS -5

THIS IS THE SUPERBOWL, THIS IS THE GAME OF THE GAMES FOR THIS SEASON AND THE PREDICTIONS ARE GOING LEFT AND RIGHT. IN MY OPINION SAINTS HAVE THE ADVANTAGE OF HAVING A WELL BUILT RUNNING ATTACK AND USUALLY HAVING TWO WAYS TO STRIKE ARE BETTER THAN ONLY ONE. THE COLTS HAVE PEYTON MANNING SO THAT COULD BE ENOUGH BUT THEY ARE FACING THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THE NFC CONFERENCE SO THEY MIGHT NEED SOMETHING ELSE. I AM NOT STATING THAT THE SAINTS WILL BEAT THE COLTS OUTRIGHT BUT I AM SURE THE COLTS WILL NOT COVER THE SPREAD. MY PICK FOR THE SUPERBOWL WILL BE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS +5.

The biggest sports weekend of the year gets even bigger with UFC 109: RELENTLESS. In the main event, its the clash of legends Randy The Natural Couture and Mark The Hammer Coleman finally square off in a battle for the ages. The UFC’s top two middleweight contenders, Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen, collide in a bout that will move the winner one step closer to a world title shot. Plus, two of the game’s 170-pound superstars, former champion Matt Serra and two-time title challenger Frank Trigg, meet for the first time in a pivotal matchup.

UFC 109: Relentless
Saturday, February 6,
live on pay-per-view
Mandalay Bay Events Center
Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event brings one fight to be called the battle of hall of Famers. Both are old dogs of the octagon so this fight could be one of the greatest events of the year. Couture vs. Coleman is one of those dream matchups that fans have always talked about, UFC president Dana White stated. And when you consider that these are two of the greatest wrestlers turned mixed martial artists ever, and its the first time that two guys who have already earned their way into the UFC Hall of Fame are fighting each other, this is not only an intriguing matchup, but a historic one.

Randy Couture at age 46 decided to give us one more show and he couldn’t be in better shape for it. His impressive record shows 17 wins and 10 losses and his strengths have always been his wrestling abilities and his great clinch. He can still punch like a youngster and his power hasn’t decrease with age, actually it has increased a bit and may be that could be the card he holds for this fight.

Mark Coleman at age 45 refuses to retire as well. He feels there is something left in him still for one more match. He is also in great shape and let’s remember, these guys are the ones who started all back in the day with UFC 1 through 5 so the experience won’t be a weapon they can use since both have tons. Coleman strengths are obviously his experience on the Octagon, his wrestling abilities and his ground and pound skills that have proven effective years ago. His record is also impressive with 16 wins and 9 losses.

This will be a tough fight to predict. Both fighters come from the same place when it comes to fighting, they won’t give any advantages and they can knock themselves out at any given time if they decide to box each other so the question remains: Will the fight go all the way or will it be a KO? Well I believe the fight will go the whole length and at the end a unanimous decision will crown the winner. My pick for this fight will be Randy “The Natural” Couture.

These are the rest of the fights available on the card:

Preliminary Bouts:

Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres
Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Brian Stann vs. Phil Davis
Phillipe Nover vs. Rob Emerson
Mac Danzig vs. Justin Buchholz
Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller

Main Bouts:

Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera
Josh Koshcheck vs. Paulo Thiago

Minnesota Vikings and QB Brett Favre never looked so good. They gave us a beautiful show Sunday morning and they are coming to get the NFC Title regardless of who is in front of them. Now, the best part about all this is that New Orleans Saints, a very strong team offensively speaking gets to play them at their own home ground and it will be probably one of the best challenges ever between quarterbacks.

6:40 PM ET, January 24, 2010
FOX

Minnesota Vikings jumped to the field in a aggressive mode that left no doubt of what they are looking for. QB Brett Favre handle himself amazingly good. He is the engine of this team and without him none of these will would be possible so basically if he wants to win they probably will. Other players involved in offense are RB Adrian Peterson, RB Chester Taylor, WR Sidney Rice and WR Percy Harvin. Minnesota just left Romo without options and I am sure that’s what they are going to do to Brees on the next game. They are coming to obliterate the Saints and they won’t give them a chance to start throwing or running, the defense is set to stop them before it’s too late so the same game plan applies. Favre will be in charge of the rest and combining the run with the aerial there will be few options for the Saints defense to stop this team.

New Orleans Saints just scored 45 points against a mediocre defense. The test is coming next Sunday when they get to face a real threat on offense and defense, a well balanced combination that could end their season in a blink of an eye. QB Drew Brees has been known for been a player that folds under pressure so this could be a determine factor on this game. Other players involved in offense are RB Pierre Thomas, RB Mike Bell, WR Marques Colston and WR Devery Henderson. The key for the Saints is guard their QB and let him do what he knows best. The run will be a powerful option in the legs of RB Reggie Bush, healthy enough to give his best like last Saturday. The defense has to put pressure on Favre and hit him as much as possible, may be the Old man cannot take that many hits in a game anymore so if you rough him a little bit he could crumble.

GAME ODDS

MINNESOTA VIKINGS 52
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS -4

TWO VERY SIMILAR OFFENSIVE TEAMS MEET AND THERE IS ONE FACT, IT WILL BE PLENTY OF SCORING. THE SAINTS HAVE GREAT PLAYERS BUT I FEEL THE VIKINGS WANT IT MORE, BRETT WANTS IT MORE. MY PICK WILL BE MINNESOTA VIKINGS +4.

This game represents the new ways against the old ones. One of the most experienced quarterbacks in the business faces a rookie that proved this Sunday that he has cold blood and he can deliver when needed. This game will be a brutal assault on the game, Jets defense will play the most important game ever and Colts offense will try to smash them with their powerful guns.

3:00 PM ET, January 24, 2010
CBS

New York Jets are starting to build momentum and they got it done in the second half to eliminate the San Diego Chargers and a very tough game. Rookies QB Mark Sanchez and RB Shonn Greene led New York to their first AFC Title game in many years and I am certain the journey has just got interesting. Other players involved in offense are QB Kellen Clemens, RB Thomas Jones, WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Braylon Edwards. Now the main weapon Jets have will be the strong defense. This will play the definite role in this game since all Peyton Manning do is throw and so accurate that he needs to get off his rhythm to make a mistake so the Jets have the key to conquer the Colts, it’s all about the defensive game. One of the most important news will be the fact that DE Shaun Ellis, vital to the defensive line left the game with a hand injury. I guess we will have to wait for more information on that. The key will be to force Manning to throw and to do it wildly off his rhythm otherwise the rookie QB won’t stand a chance on the aerial game, he doesn’t have enough skills yet to go toe to toe with a QB like Manning. The running game will be another factor and the other great rookie RB could be the one saving the Jets.

Indianapolis Colts come to this game as heavy favorites. Everyone feels the dream is over for the youngster and it’s time for a crude awakening on QB Peyton Manning’s hands. By the looks of it Indianapolis will do exactly what they have been doing all year long, running the ball in an impressive way and moving the pieces to deliver a pass in the hands of Manning that are probably the most accurate on the game right now. Other players involved in offense are QB Curtis Painter, RB Joseph Addai, RB Donald Brown, WR Reggie Wayne and TE Dallas Clark. The key for the Colts will be the aerial assault on the Jets defense. Players like Wayne and Clark can easily determine the outcome of the game regardless of how many players guard them so the point here will be run and run until it’s time for Peyton to do hsi thing. The Colts defense is not one of the best but I hardly doubt they will be needed that bad.

GAME ODDS

NEW YORK JETS 40
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS -7

THIS WILL BE ANOTHER DEFENSE/OFFENSE MATCH BUT THE UPPER HAND IS FOR THE COLTS. THEY HAVE THE MORE EXPERIENCE SQUAD, THE BEST QB IN THE LEAGUE, SOME OF THE BEST RECEIVERS IN THE BUSINESS AND THE WINNING ATTITUDE BUT YOU CAN’T EVER TRUST THE DESIRE OF THE ROOKIES TO CONQUER THE IMPOSSIBLE. MY PICK WILL BE NEW YORK JETS +7.

It’s time for another exciting tennis season and the best way to kick start will be with a great first grand slam tournament, The Australian Open. Both ATP and WTA send their best of the best to compete for a great purse and the chance to climb important spots in the rankings, this could be the beginning to a perfect season or the signs of a bad one.

2010 Australian Open
Category: Grand Slam
Place: Melbourne, Australia
Date: 18.01.2010-31.01.2010
Draw Size: S-128 D-64
Surface: Hard

The Men’s section of this tournament have raised some eyebrows, it seems like Rafael Nadal hasn’t been playing at his best and he could be able to lose his crown since he actually won it last year but others like Roger Federer with a great desire to keep his first place and raising starts like Andy Murray, Robin Soderling, Juan Martin del Potro and Novak Djokovic bring a lot of youth and thirst to prove what they are made of. Old players like Nikolay Davydenko and Andy Roddick are almost on their way out and they need to make a mark in history. It seems like Davydenko already approach the big ones and beat them but will he be able to do it on a Grand Slam Tournament??? Roddick hasn’t had the same luck and he still gets defeated byt the top 5 so he needs to make a good tournament to climb into the first 5 seats.

This is the top 10 of the ATP:

01. Roger Federer from Switzerland. Odds 2/1
02. Rafael Nadal from Spain. Odds 3/1
03. Novak Djokovic from Serbia. Odds 6/1
04. Juan Martin Del Potro from Argentina. Odds 6/1
05. Andy Murray from United Kingdom. Odds 5/1
06. Nikolay Davydenko from Russia. Odds 10/1
07. Andy Roddick from United States. Odds 20/1
08. Robin Soderling from Sweden. Odds 18/1
09. Fernando Verdasco from Spain. Odds 40/1
10. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France. Odds 30/1

Any of these players could take the crown this year but there are certain players that have the road easier and they are playing at a better level. My pick to win it all will be Roger Federer.

In the Ladies’ side the tournament looks a lot more complicated. There are players like Serena Williams ranked No.1 in the World that will have an easy start but anything could happen. Dinara Safina has proven that she chokes under pressure and at the big games she usually folds so I don’t expect any surprises, she will eventually fold under pressure. Svetlana Kuznetsova, Caroline Wozniacki, Elena Dementieva, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Jankovic could take the tournament by surprise as well. They all have what it takes to make it to the finals and the road might be a little difficult but they can still make it. But here are a couple of surprises for this tournament: No.14 Maria Sharapova is not on the Top 10 but she has great tennis and she could easily take the tournament. Another great surprise will be Kim Clijsters (retired to have a family and came back) also not on the top 10 but she is a great tennis player as well. But by far the biggest surprise will be Wild Card entry Justine Henin who was No.1 a while back and retired for personal reasons and now she decided to come back to see if she still can make and and she sure can so we can expect great things from her this year.

This is the top 10 of the WTA:

01. Serena Williams from United States. Odds 2/1
02. Dinara Safina from Russia. Odds 25/1
03. Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia. Odds 15/1
04. Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. Odds 15/1
05. Elena Dementieva from Russia. Odds 15/1
06. Venus Williams from United States. Odds 10/1
07. Victoria Azarenka from Belarus. Odds 20/1
08. Jelena Jankovic from Serbia. Odds 24/1
09. Vera Zvonareva from Russia. Odds 50/1
10. Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland. Odds 60/1

Other players will be

14. Maria Sharapova from Russia. Odds 8/1
15. Kim Clijsters from Belgium. Odds 3/1
WC. Justine Henin from Belgium. Odds 3/1

This is probably the most difficult pick to predict. This particular Grand Slam could be for practically anyone on the top ten and a few outside of it either for injuries or for early retirement and coming back. My pick will be Kim Clijsters not even in the top 10.

The New York Jets and their rookie QB Mark Sanchez proved to all their fans that they are more than ready and that they are fully committed to get a spot at the Superbowl. Last Saturday they defeated Cincinnati Bengals and QB Carson Palmer and made them looked terrible so now they moved to bigger and better things and they get to play San Diego Chargers who have been solid all year long.

4:40 PM ET, January 17, 2010
Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA
CBS

New York Jets played like real champs against the Bengals and they made them pay every chance they got with a great running game. QB Mark Sanchez barely threw the ball but he did great and had a completion rate of 80% with 1 td and no interceptions. Most of the dirty work was done by the running game so it was not a one man show but they certainly looked unstoppable. Other players involved in this great offense are RB Thomas Jones, RB Shonn Greene, WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Braylon Edwards. Basically the most dominant man in this offense is Thomas Jones and his aggressive run. He will be one of the responsible for the Jets success or defeat as well as Mark Sanchez if he decides to throw. The key on this game for the Jets will be to force Rivers to throw in a hurry and have their air game controlled. Jets need to blitz all afternoon long to get them in trouble and they will need to run like they did last game.

San Diego Chargers finished their regular season with an amazing record of 13-3 and they are feeling more than ready to get to the next round but first they will have to beat the high energy of the Jets and their heavy running game. The Chargers run a double threat offense with a perfect combination of running and passing that could be the envy of the best NFL teams. QB Phillip Rivers has won 11 games in a row this season and he doesn’t want to slow down. Their running game is up to par and the air show looks better and better so the question could be if the Jets have what it takes to stop the Chargers. Rivers high completion rate (65%) shows a more secure thrower, handing the ball to his runners sounds like another way to secure the position and the control of the game and if he puts pressure on the Jets offense the rookie might crumble. Other players involved in offense are RB LaDainian Tomlinson, RB Darren Sproles, WR Vincent Jackson and TE Antonio Gates. Chargers’ key to success will be to defend the run as much as possible and force the rookie to throw on the run as well, if they can run the ball and chew the clock down they will be having the afternoon they want.

GAME ODDS

NEW YORK JETS 42
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS -7 -105

THIS GAME COULD BE A HARSH LESSON TO THE ROOKIE IF THE JETS PLAN DOESN’T GO AS THEY WANT. THE CHARGERS ARE EXPERIENCED AND I BELIEVE THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH GUTS TO DEFEAT THE RUNNING GAME THEY WILL FACE. MY PICK WILL BE NEW YORK JETS +7 -115.

Dallas Cowboys gave Philadelphia Eagles another beat to remember like the previous 2 they had this season. The Cowboys and Romo are fully confident and they approach this new challenge ready to make it happen but now the real test is on the line, they get to face Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre and that is always complicated on the playoffs.

1:00 PM ET, January 17, 2010
Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN
FOX

Dallas Cowboys have earned the right to be here and they did so by beating Philadelphia Eagles 3 times in a row and proving that they are good enough to claim a spot in the Superbowl. QB Tony Romo is getting back to his rhythm and he didn’t make as many mistakes but against the Vikings he needs to stay focused and ready to deliver because they will need from his leadership now more than ever. Other players involved in offense are RB Felix Jones, WR Miles Austin and TE Jason Witten. The biggest question for the Cowboys will be to let RB Marion Barber play. His knee is not well and he could risk a higher and more dangerous injury if he plays and get hit but I guess the decision will be taken later on this week, although it sounds crazy to risk a high pay career just because you want to play this particular game. Dallas defense will be in check on this game since they need to stop Favre’s air show and they need to do it from the beginning of the game before it gets rolling and out of hand. The key will be solid defense and great running game like the one Jones gave us last Saturday.

Minnesota Vikings have had a conflicted end of the regular season. The coach Brad Childress almost dragged his team to the ground on the last 4 games of the regular season in which the Vikings were 2 and 2 and they looked like amateurs. Poor decisions caused friction between Childress and QB Brett Favre who is considered one of the best QBS and one that has been in this position before. Favre is a winner and winners always make their effort to accomplish any particular goal, Favre wants the Superbowl, he wants to retire at his prime so this is the perfect chance to do so and Childress was interfering with his dream so that could have been all. Favre will play and he will handle the offense as he has done all season, with perfection and he won’t allow the Cowboys to go near him that is a fact. Other players involved in offense are QB Tarvaris Jackson, RB Adrian Peterson, RB Chester Taylor, WR Sidney Rice and WR Percy Harvin. The Vikings will run the ball with Peterson and Taylor as much as possible and Brett will release the pigskin only when he is absolutely sure he will be on target so it looks awfully tough for the Cowboys to stop the scoring machine.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS -2 -120

THE VIKINGS WILL TRY TO BULLY THE COWBOYS AND FORCED ROMO TO MAKE THE MISTAKES HE HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY MADE THIS SEASON. DALLAS FEELS MINNESOTA IS IN EVERY WAY LIKE THE EAGLES AND THEY CAN BEAT THEM STRAIGHT UP SO THE CHALLENGE IS ON. MY PICK WILL BE MINNESOTA VIKINGS -2 -120.
