Ubisoft and Marvel Announce Plans for Avengers Video Game

Ubisoft and Marvel Entertainment have joined forces to develop a video game based on the popular Avengers characters and other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. This is no surprise considering the film has already made over $1 billion in just two weeks.

Marvel says the game will feature 20 different characters, including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, as well as some super villains from the Marvel Universe. The game will be released this fall for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft with Kinect for Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii U system. It appears that the PS3 is being left out.

Andreea Enache-Thune, senior vice president of games and digital distribution at Marvel, says, "For the last few years, Marvel has positioned itself to deliver the absolute best in entertainment, be it in film, animation, comics or games. Partnering with Ubisoft is a big part of that ongoing movement. We are confident that Ubisoft's talent matches Marvel's own commitment to making the Avengers: Battle for Earth the best in the motion-controlled gaming category."

Xbox 360 Kinect Star Wars Bundle Unboxed

CBSNews.com's Tech Talk has unboxed the Xbox 360 Kinect Star Wars Bundle, which features a white Kinect, C3PO controller and an Xbox 360 console with a design inspired by R2D2. Ghost Recon Future Soldier Documentary Trailer Released

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier from Ubisoft arrives in stores on May 22nd. Ubisoft has released this official "Documentary" trailer that shows what the life of a Ghost team member looks like from the inside. Take a look:

The game enables players ton control Control Sergeant Kozak and his unit, across 14 missions in 8 locations, from Africa to the Arctic Circle. Over 50 weapons are available. There is also a Gunsmith mode, where you can customize your weapons. Up to 16 players can participate in the multiplayer mode. The game is available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Diablo III: Wrath Short Film by Peter Chung

Blizzard Entertainment teamed up with director Peter Chung and animation studio Titmouse to create this short film for Diablo III called "Wrath." The film depicts a fundamental moment in the battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. A screen shot from the game is pictured above. Take a look:

Diablo III arrives in stores on May 15 for the Windows and Mac. It features five new character classes, including Witch Doctor, for battling the unholy forces of the Burning Hells. The game's Havok physics system enables players to rain hell on their enemies by using the interactive environment as a weapon: lay cunning traps, turn destructible objects against your foes, and use environmental obstacles to your advantage. EA and Insomniac Announces Facebook Game Called Outernauts

Electronic Arts and Insomniac have announced Outernauts, an online game designed for Facebook. Players are cast as members of United Earth's elite Outernaut force. Players have to capture and train exotic alien beasts for battle. You can also discover mysterious planets, harvest loot, and fight alongside or against friends.

Ted Price, President and Founder of Insomniac Games, says, "We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook. As we have demonstrated for nearly twenty years in the console games space, we're confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac's signature sense of humor."

2K Games Offers Spec Ops: The Line Playable Demo

2K Games announced that a free playable demo of Spec Ops: The Line, is now available for gamers who are Gold Xbox Live members and on the PlayStation Network. The demo will become available for all Xbox Live members on May 15, 2012.

The single-player game is set within Dubai after a series of cataclysmic sandstorms cut the city off from the rest of the world. Playing as Captain Martin Walker, gamers add to the city's destruction by engaging in action-packed firefights as they search for Colonel John Konrad and his missing battalion, The Damned 33rd. Gamers will blast their way through sandstorms with a variety of weapons and explosives, even using sand as a weapon to strategically bury enemies in their path.

Spec Ops: The Line will be available in North America for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 26, 2012, and internationally on June 29, 2012. Here is the official narrative trailer:

Rovio's Angry Birds Generated Over $100 Million in Revenues in 2011

Rovio announced its 2011 financial results. The company's popular Angry Birds franchise brought in over $100 million for Rovio in 2011. Rovio says the total number of game downloads reached 648 million by the end of year 2011 and the total number of active monthly users, across all platforms, reached 200 million. The company now employs 224 people, up from 28 at the start of the year.

Rovio recently announced its "Share & Play" feature for Angry Birds that lets you embed a playable level of Angry Birds on a blog, web page or Facebook Timeline. Take a look:

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Trailer Revealed

Treyarch and Activision Publishing have released the trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Set in the year 2025, Black Ops II propels players into global conflict featuring advanced weaponry, robotics, and drone warfare in a new Cold War scenario whose seeds are being sown in today's headlines. There are also zombies. The game will be released on November 13th

Bethesda Confirms Release of The Elder Scrolls Online

Prototype 2 Arrives for Xbox 360 and PS3

Prototype 2 is now available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The sequel is set 14 months after the events of the original game. It follows a new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller, as he sets out to exact revenge against the man he holds responsible for the loss of his loved ones and the world as he once knew it - Alex Mercer.

Study Finds Playing Tetris May Reduce Impact of PTSD

A new study has found that playing Tetris can help reduce the impact of PTSD. It will not make the problem go away, but it can help. In the experiment, subjects were asked to view a disturbing film. The group of subjects that played Tetris in the following week suffered fewer flashbacks than those who did not play Tetris. Take a look:

WGT Launches Baseball Game on Facebook

WGT has announced the launch of WGT Baseball: MLB on Facebook. The game has over 200,000 monthly users on Facebook following several months of testing.

The game is a blend of a social gaming and fantasy sports. Players manage their rosters of Facebook friends, making strategic in-game decisions and competing head-to-head against other players in a home run derby, single-inning games, and new month-long seasons.

YuChiang Cheng, co-founder and CEO, WGT, says, "Our vision has been to expand sports media by developing realistic social sports games that engage sports fans. It's exciting to already see our baseball game become the largest currently on Facebook and have a partner like MLB Advanced Media to help reach baseball fans worldwide."

Activision to Launch 007 Legends This Fall

Activision has announced it will launch a new video game to coincide with the upcoming Skyfall movie. The new game, 007 Legends, will feature an original, overarching storyline tying together six classic Bond movies, concluding with this year's 23rd installment, Skyfall. Planned to launch this fall, 007 Legends is being developed by Eurocom, under license from EON Productions Ltd. and MGM for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

David Oxford, executive vice president at Activision Publishing says, "To honor 50 years of the world's top secret agent, 007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet. Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game."

In addition to 007 Legends' main story, the game will feature the return of Mi6 Ops Missions, which debuted in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. The game challenges players to complete extra missions ranging from all-out action to stealth and gadget-based gameplay. 007 Legends equips players with state-of-the-art spy gadgets, an arsenal of weapons, including Bond's signature Walther PPK, and sleek vehicles. Players will also be able to participate as one of Bond's cohorts or villainous foes. The multiplayer experience includes local four-player split-screen game modes and online competitive gameplay with new maps, weapons and characters derived from Bond's 50 year legacy.

Nielsen has shared the results of a study on the games gamers are anticipated most later this year. There are some big fall releases that topped the list. The big franchise products on what gamers are most interest in, according to the study.

Halo 4 topped the Xbox 360 list, followed by Assassin's Creeed III, Max Payne 3, Madden NFL 13 and Resident Evil 6.

Assassin's Creeed III topped the PS3 want list, followed by Max Payne 3, Madden NFL 13, Resident Evil 6 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

For the Wii, gamers most want Madden NFL 13, followed by Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Battleship, Lego Batman 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Halo 4 to Launch Worldwide on November 6

Rockstar Games Launches Max Payne for iPhone and iPad

Rockstar Games has announced Max Payne Mobile for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The game is available here on the App Store for $2.99. Originally released in 2001, Max Payne is a story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting for justice while uncovering plot-twists and murderous thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard.

The video game series returns this summer with the launch of Max Payne 3 on May 15 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It will also be available for PC on May 29.

Ice Age Village Mobile Game Tops App Store Charts

Ice Age Village, an Ice Age themed mobile game, has been downloaded over 5 million times since it launched on April 5th. The game recently took the #1 ranking in the App Store's Top Free Games category in over 50 countries (iPhone) and over 90 countries (iPad). The app is also one of the App Stores' Top 5 grossing games in over 50 countries.

The popular of the app could be a good sign for the fourth film in the franchise, Ice Age: Continental Drift, which arrives July, 2012.

Bigpoint and Fox to Launch Ice Age Online Game

Bigpoint and 20th Century Fox have announced plans to launch, Ice Age Online, a game based on the Ice Age franchise. The game will be a free-to-play browser game. The fourth film in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, arrives in theaters on July 13, 2012.

In Ice Age Online, players assume the role of a sloth that recently discovered the perfect place for animals from the herd to live. Along the way, the herd gets separated and lost. Players must rescue the lost animals and build up a camp for them to live. Players also collect precious acorns and construction materials - such as wood, flowers, coconuts, and mud - from locations based on the film franchise. The acorns and materials are used to build camps for the rescued animals to live.

Players can also socialize their characters with options including gender selection, multiple color and fur combinations, special haircuts and headdresses, and a number of wardrobe choices. Player unlock bonus levels as they progress through the game.

Game Based on Disney-Pixar's Brave to Launch This Summer

Disney Interactive Media Group has announced that Brave: The Video Game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC/MAC. The game, based on the Brave movie from Disney-Pixar, will launch in Summer 2012, in conjunction with the film release.

In the third person action-adventure, players can play the heroine, Merida, an expert archer. Players can also play as other entertaining characters from the film. They can shoot arrows, wield a sword and go on quests through the magical world to save the kingdom. There will also be a special Bear mode, where players will be able to play as a bear.

Assassin's Creed III Announcement Trailer

Ubisoft says Assassin's III will enables gamers to experience the American Revolutionary War that was not written about in the history books. It introduces a new hero, Ratohnhake:ton, of Native American and English heritage, who uses the name Connor. Connor becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and Templars.

Players become an Assassin in the war for liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date. Assassin's Creed III spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington's Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army.

The large number of views on YouTube's Ubisoft's announcement trailer (over 1 million already) is a sign of great interest in the third entry in the series.

Diablo III Set for May 15 Release

Blizzard has set a release date for Diablo III of May 15. The game is available for the PC and Mac for $59.99. In the game, players take on the role of one of five heroic characters - barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk, or demon hunter. They then battle legions of evil.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a statement, "We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15."

The game can be pre-ordered here on battle.net and here on Amazon.com.

Improved Resolution and Increased Power of New iPad Expected to Result in Better Games

The iPad and other tablets have been increasingly used to play games. The new iPad, which was announced today, featuring a much crisper screen, called the Retina display. Apple said in its press release that the new iPad "has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos."

The new screen, combined with a faster processor, should make the iPad even more appealing to gamers. IGN.com Executive Editor Scott Lowe says developers will have more power and features to improve iPad games. Robert Griffin III to Cover EA Sports NCAA Football 13

Electronic Arts has announced that Baylor University quarterback Robert Griffin III will be featured on the cover of EA Sports NCAA Football 13. The game will go on sale for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on Tuesday, July 10.

Robert Griffin III (RG3) won the Heisman Trophy, Davey O'Brien Award and was named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year in 2011. In 2008, RG3 was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year by the league's coaches, setting the school's rushing yards record for a freshman and for a quarterback with 843 yards for the season.

Beginning March 12, fans can log on to the EA Sports NCAA Football Facebook page to vote for one of eight Heisman Trophy winners to accompany Griffin III on the cover of NCAA Football 13.

Here is the teaser trailer for the new Spider-Man video game. The full trailer will premiere during the Spike TV VGAs on Spike TV, MTV2 and Spike.com on Saturday, December 10 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT. Marvel had this to say about the new game:

An all-new Spider-Man is poised to bring the action back to New York City as Activision and Marvel announce "The Amazing Spider-Man" video game, planned to launch summer 2012 tied to Sony Picture Entertainment's upcoming feature film of the same name.
