“Alpha 2.0 is a major breakthrough for Star Citizen,” said Chris Roberts, renowned game developer known for his games Wing Commander, Freelancer, and Privateer. “It represents the first true slice of gameplay that includes much of what Star Citizen will bring to our fans: thrilling space combat in a massive play area, first-person battles, and multi-crew ships where you and your friends can adventure together in a portion of the universe on the same ship. • More than thirty-two thousand fan-created organizations
  • The largest fan-created organization has more than eleven thousand members
  • Many backers have direct access to the development team and as such influences and gives direct feedback to its development

“We are forever grateful for our backs and fans,” said Roberts. “They have been there from the beginning when we launched Star Citizen’s funding campaign three years ago. And they’ve helped create the most passionate and loyal community in our industry. They are helping us every step along the way in creating the best damn space sim ever.”

      Clash of Kings, Facebook’s 2015 Game of the Year Sat, 12 Dec 2015 14:40:28 +0000 <img width="624" height="208" src="" class="attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image" alt="Facebook names Clash of Kings as its 2015 Game of the Year (PRNewsFoto/ELEX)" style="display: block; margin: auto; margin-bottom: 5px;" srcset="// 300w, // 768w, // 624w, // 800w" sizes="(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px" /><p>Facebook has chosen ELEX's Clash of Kings (CoK) as their 2015 Game of the Year!</p> <p>The post <a rel="nofollow" href="">Clash of Kings, Facebook&#8217;s 2015 Game of the Year</a> by <a rel="nofollow" href="">Yuki</a> appeared first on <a rel="nofollow" href="">gameshogun™</a>.</p>

A few days ago, Facebook announced the winners of their annual Games of the Year awards. For this year, 2015, the honor goes to Clash of Kings by ELEX (China). This was after the company launched the game on Facebook by building their web-version from the ground up. This helped CoK to attract a staggering 50 million new players worldwide from both their Facebook platform to their cross-platform mobile versions.

Clash of Kings won, not only because it is a great online strategy game but because according to their press release, there were over 1.55 billion monthly users who were discussing the game. Secondly, Facebook also analyzed other considerations, such as, a game’s retention rate, level of player engagement, etc., based on its over 450 million people who play games on Facebook or connect to games via Facebook on mobile devices and consoles every month.

The people behind the largest social network platform felt that ELEX made the right move in rebuilding CoK from the scratch, to not only be much friendlier across multiple platforms but to also ease social integration and find success in the international market.

Having played this game for months, and spent money as well, I agree that Clash of Kings deserve to be named Facebook’s 2015 Game of the Year. If you are a Filipino gamer and you have not tried it yet, you are missing a lot. Don’t worry, there numerous Filipino players in the game, clans too, competing with our neighbors for control of each “kingdom” (or server), who in turn invades their neighboring kingdoms/servers.

        Pokémon GO, Setting Expectations Tue, 17 Nov 2015 02:30:30 +0000 <img width="624" height="487" src="émon_GO_map-624x487.png" class="attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image" alt="Pokémon_GO_map" style="display: block; margin: auto; margin-bottom: 5px;" srcset="//émon_GO_map-300x234.png 300w, //émon_GO_map-1024x799.png 1024w, //émon_GO_map-624x487.png 624w, //émon_GO_map-192x150.png 192w" sizes="(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px" /><p>New to Augmented Reality Games like Pokémon GO? It may or may not be what you think it is, so let's set your expectations straight on this post.</p> <p>The post <a rel="nofollow" href="">Pokémon GO, Setting Expectations</a> by <a rel="nofollow" href="">Yuki</a> appeared first on <a rel="nofollow" href="">gameshogun™</a>.</p>

Pokémon GO is continually making the news and attracting a lot of players. However, most of these players are new to massively multiplayer online augmented reality game or MMOARG. To help the community, it is important that we set everybody’s expectations.

On this post, I will answer the questions that I have seen asked frequently and set the expectations of the new players in the MMOARG space.

        Winter Beta

Niantic announced in their Ingress Report back in October that Pokémon GO will go into closed beta in the coming winter. Many assumed, and rightly so, that it will be this December 2015. The reality is, that is a maybe.

Winter in most countries in the northern hemisphere is from mid-December to late-February. Ever heard of the “winter solstice”? In most European and North American countries, even in East Asian countries, the winter solstice marks the beginning of, well, winter.

This year the winter solstice is on the 22nd of December. That’s the tradition. Officially, winter is declared by a country’s meteorological agency if snowfall reaches a certain amount per cubic meter. But for the sake of the vague “winter beta”, since it’s a marketing language in this respect, the Winter Solstice is the best fit.

In short, the winter beta could be anytime between December 22, 2015 and March 1, 2015.

        Early 2016 release

Likewise, an “early 2016” release could be anytime from January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016. It usually means the first quarter of the year. The only catch, the months of April and May are, to an extent, also considered as “early” (with June to August considered as “mid”).

A possible scenario, closed beta begins on January 27, 2016 (it’s still winter) and ends on March 31, 2016. Release day will be on April 1, 2016 (still “early 2016”) worldwide.

Q: Do I need an Internet access?

Definitely. Pokémon GO is a massively multiplayer online game and as such requires a stable mobile Internet connection. A 3G Internet is the slowest connection needed to enjoy the game, while a 4G or LTE mobile Internet is highly recommended.

In my previous post, “Pokémon GO Features to Expect“, I mentioned the possibility that there will be exclusive Pokémons in certain areas. This means that we need to buy a SIM card and pay for the Internet service whenever we visit another country, unless you are willing to pay the expensive roaming charges offered by mobile networks.

If this is not an option for you, for whatever reason, I’m sorry to say but this perhaps not a game for you.

Q: Do I need to go outside and walk?

It is a must. Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game. The game’s world is inseparable with our real world. Putting it another way, our real world is the game’s playing field.

Pokémon GO is not your traditional game with a map of our world where you can just press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, to go to different places. No. You, the player, must walk north, north, south, south, west, east, west, east, tap, tap, tap, tap, to capture Pokémons.

If you are not willing to do that, if you find it a hassle, I’m afraid this is not the game for you.

Q: This means I need GPS too?

Obviously, because the game needs to know where you are, especially if there are Pokémons exclusive to or more frequently shows up in one particular area.

Q: My privacy! I do not want anyone to know where I am!

Simple. Do not play this game.

Q: Fine. I understand I need time and money then?

Yes and yes. First, you need to be capable of paying for your own mobile Internet access. Second, when you go out in the world, you need to drink a lot and eat too. Third, you will travel a lot, going to places you have never been before.

If you want to visit another country to catch that Pokémon, you also need a plane ticket, a place to sleep, buy a local SIM card and pay their Internet service.

Pokémon GO, just like Ingress, is an investment. To progress and enjoy this game, you need to have a lot of dedicated time and money. If you cannot find the time to play Pokémon GO, if you do not have the means to support yourself when you go out there and find those Pokémons, then you will get stuck in this game.

If you plan on getting serious with this game, take this into a (major) consideration.

Q: But I’m just a kid! I don’t have my own money, Internet, and I’m scared out there!

Sorry kid, but this is definitely not the game for you. Pokémon GO is a game for adults.

Q: But… but… I want to defeat this game! I defeated all Pokémon games ever released! I have a reputation at stake!

Hey kid, sooner or later you have to face the reality and this is the best time as ever: grow up, earn money (start a business or get a job), learn what real-life really is, then and only then you should consider playing an MMOARG.

Your other option is to convince your parents and/or guardians to accompany you whenever you want to play Pokémon GO. The number one (1) priority when playing an MMOARG is safety and security, I cannot stress that enough.

        Q: I’m a parent, any tips?

A lot, here are some of it:

        • This is a real-life social game: There are countless of other players that your kids can meet.
        • Don’t talk to strangers: It is very common to spot other players, some will approach, some will stay hidden, some will just follow other players around.
        • Privacy: Some players take photos of other players and share it with their friends. Putting a face behind an in-game name (“IGN”) is a common aspect in any online game.
        • Security: Your kid’s phone or tablet will be exposed in the open. Thieves particularly target people that look vulnerable.
        • Safety: Traveling is a must. Your kid will no doubt want to visit a lot of places, with or without you.
        • Time investment: It will consume your kid’s time.
        • Money investment: If the mobile Internet access you are providing for your kid is on a consumable or data-based plan, consider switching to a time-limited plan to limit their playing time.

Those are what I can think of. How you can ensure your kid will not go anywhere with their friends will depend on you, the parent/guardian. I don’t need to remind you that when you and I were kids, we did very stupid things, not thinking of our safety and security was at the top. How much more today when kids have more compelling reasons to do so, like catching a Pokémon that only shows up in particular areas or to meet other players to trade with?

Lastly, as a long-time augmented reality gamer (there are other MMOARGs before Ingress), the dangers are real and can come from anywhere, anytime. Protect your kids. Ensure that when they play Pokémon GO or any MMOARG for that matter, that they are with you.

Even us adults take extra measures and still fall victim to an incident (or worst, accident), we cannot expect kids to have the same level of precaution and preparation.

To kids, I know you hate hearing this but for your safety, listen to us adults, especially us with experience in MMOARGs.

Here's a list of features to expect based on Niantic's Ingress Augmented Reality Game.</p> <p>The post <a rel="nofollow" href="">Pokémon GO Features to Expect</a> by <a rel="nofollow" href="">Yuki</a> appeared first on <a rel="nofollow" href="">gameshogun™</a>.</p>

Niantic, Inc. is the developer of Nintendo® The Pokémon Company‘s upcoming massively multiplayer online augmented reality game (“MMOARG”), Pokémon GO. It was confirmed to have been inspired and based on the most popular and successful MMOARG, Ingress. Based on this, we can predict the features that will come in Pokémon GO.

Important note: Before we begin, a fair reminder, these are all speculations based on the features in Ingress. In addition to that, ideas can not be owned, as such, the developers are free to use these ideas and/or suggestions as they see fit with or without any attribution or compensation.

Over the years, features were added to Ingress that we can assume today, was a preparation for Pokémon GO. It was more like a live test, if you will, so they have data to based on for the new MMOARG, Pokémon GO.

              Unown Translation

              “F” Unown Pokémon

In Ingress, when you hold the ‘hack’ button for a few seconds, the Glyph Hack feature will be activated. In glyph hack, a set of alien glyphs or alphabet is shown which the agent must correctly duplicate. Bonus rewards are given for every successful pattern.

In Pokémon, there is what we call the Unown. These are the ‘symbol’ Pokémons, twenty-eight (28) characters in total. We can expect something in GO where we have to translate Unown writings in the wild and we will get some points that we can use to purchase items in the Poké Mart or have a higher chance of getting more Poké Balls or our character attracts rare Pokémons for an X amount of minutes.

Poké Mart and the Department Store

Niantic recently launched the Ingress Store. This was no doubt a feature introduced in Ingress to gather consumer data in preparation for GO’s Poké Mart and obviously, to test it.

              Master Ball

              Master Ball

In the Pokémon world, there are Poké Marts located in various cities. In this store, Pokémon Trainers can buy higher type of Poké Balls, food for their Pokémon (yes, they do eat), and special items unique to each area. These items are no doubt non-game changer, meaning, items that will not put any trainer into an advantage over the others who chose not to purchase anything using real-world money.

Of course, that remains to be seen. A microtransaction or “Item Mall” as it is commonly called in MMOGs, is usually a double-edged sword in free-to-play games. Items offered start with non-game changer items, but later, new ones are introduced that some players call “pay-to-win”. Let’s cross our fingers that Poké Mart (and Ingress Store for that matter) will not travel down that path.

              User-Generated Content: Gyms and Leagues

“Missions” in Ingress is a user-generated content. These are missions created by agents which other agents can take and attempt to finish. This feature can used in Pokémon GO and it will be a very interesting one if implemented correctly.

For example. A group of high-level trainers in ASEAN City decided to band together and form a Pokémon Gym called “ASEAN City Gym”. One of their trainer will create the “mission” online (via a browser) and set the following conditions:

              • Objective: Defeat these trainers in order listed
              • Defeat Trainer John
              • Defeat Trainer Lyn
              • Defeat Trainer Myst
              • Defeat Trainer Eve
              • Defeat Trainer Ulyses
              • Defeat Gym Leader Adam

Here comes Pokémon Trainer Pops in ASEAN City. He opens his Pokémon GO app and saw there’s a “mission” available. He tapped the “take mission” button to alert the Trainers listed that they have a challenger. They meet at an agreed upon location and schedule for the Pokémon battle.

Trainer Pops then issues a challenge to each ASEAN City Gym trainer. He defeats them one-by-one until he faces Gym Leader Adam. After a lengthy Pokémon battle, where Pops almost lost (and had to start from the beginning if ever), he won against Trainer Adam. The app/system detects it and he receives the “ASEAN City Gym” badge.

This “mission” feature can also be used for “Leagues”, which are bigger than “Gyms” in the Pokémon world. They could be asked to locate and capture a particular Pokémon as part of the “mission” before they advance to the next stage of the League, for example.

The possibilities are endless. As I’ve said earlier, it depends on how it will be implemented. Simply put, user-generated content is king.

Aside from the badges earned by finishing user-generated “missions”, there are also official badges. These badges range from simple achievements earned to badges earned by participating in official major events. Here are some ideas that I came up with:

              • Number of Pokémon caught – you start with copper, then bronze, silver, and so on, as you catch more Pokémon
              • Number of Trainers defeated – also a tiered badge
              • Trekker badge – kilometers walked, a tiered badge
              • Trader badge – how many Pokémons a trainer traded, a tiered badge
              • Psychic badge – you caught X number Psychic-type Pokémon, there are 18 types in the Pokémon world
              • Unown Master badge – you caught all 28 Unown Pokémon species
              • Unown Translator badge – you’ve translated X number of Unown glyphs
              • Defeat Mew-Two Event badge – if you joined the said event
              • Gym Master – you’ve defeated X number of Gyms, see user-generated content above, a tiered badge
              • Pokémon Master badge – this badge should be very hard to attain, I think it should not be made available at all!)

These badges are displayed in your Trainer profile. As a Pokémon trainer, it is your history, your achievement, your pride. I am sure you have ideas too, post them below!

              Modifications or Upgrades

Or “mods” for short. In Ingress, agents can add mods to a portal they captured. It could be a shield or a turret to mention two. This can be implemented into Pokémon GO by allowing trainers to add “mods” to their Pokémons.

Perhaps an extra armor for Geodude. Or an extra water turret for Blastoise. Or say, a tinfoil hat to protect from psychic type Pokémons.

This feature is not in Ingress but is a very old suggestion for the said game. However, in Pokémon GO, as far as what we’ve been shown in the trailer (available below), it will be a feature of the game. I won’t be surprised at all if Ingress receives this feature sometime later.

              Unique to Pokémon

Last but not the least, features that is unique in the Pokémon world. These are:

              • Pokédex – for those not familiar, it’s your Pokémon checklist
              • Pokémon evolution
              • Pokémon Center – you can store your extra Pokémon there, sort of like a “bank” or daycare center
              • You can only carry six (6) Pokémons at a given time. Newly caught Pokémons are automatically sent to the Pokémon Center
              • No doubt, there will be Pokémons exclusive to one location. For example, you probably won’t see wild Magikarps in land-locked countries. Then there is Vileplume, which was based on the largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia arnoldii which is rare, hard to find, and can only be found in the forests of Indonesia.

Is there a possibility that we are going to see Pokémon not in any existing games? Yes, definitely. As Pokémon GO is set on Planet Earth, Niantic and The Pokémon Company can create a totally new Pokémon ecosystem. It will all depend on the background story.

As with any story, there are questions to be answered like, were these Pokémons from the Pokémon world who crashed landed here on Earth? Or were these planted here in eons past and were only discovered today through the use of technology that detects them and sees them for what they really are? (Like a Ghostbuster scanner.) Why are they here? If they were planted, who was behind it? Was Professor Oak involved in some way?

Or maybe, the question we should ask, is Planet Earth the Pokémon world? Is the Pokémon world actually a very distant past of this planet? Could something have happened in that era that connected it to our time? Could it be Celebi/Serebii, the time-travelling Pokémon that caused it?

It all comes down to the story. Based on that story, we might see a different set of Pokémons altogether. One thing is for sure, we will see the common ones like Magikarp and Vileplume (I already have a story in mind for Vileplume!)

              Closed Beta and Launch

It was confirmed by Niantic that there will be a winter closed beta. They also confirmed that the official public launch of the game will be early in 2016.

How to get into the closed beta? I’m afraid that I don’t have an answer. If ever we get invites from Niantic, we will think of a way to distribute it fairly. An early tip, we will probably require that you are at least Level 8 in Ingress. Why? Pokémon GO is a massively multiplayer online augmented reality game, to truly beta test it, a trainer has to have an experience playing MMOARGs.

              Pokémon GO Communities

An MMOARG to be successful need the support of its community. Here are some communities that you can join in Google Plus, the platform that will be used and is closely tied-in to the game.

              Gotta catch ’em all!

Ingress, the massively multiplayer augmented reality game (“MMOARG”) by Niantic Labs, opened to the public its latest offering — the Ingress Store. It is no different from the microtransaction or “Item Mall” offered in other MMOGs where you purchase non-game changer and non-advantageous items.

What’s in-Store? How to buy an extra 500 inventory slots for portal keys?

Note: Currency in this post and the screenshots is in Philippine ₱eso, with a Google exchange rate value in US Dollars (not in-game price in USD).

                How to Buy

                It’s simple:

                1. Open the Ingress app
                2. Click the “Ops” button
                3. After the “Inventory” tab is the “Store” tab, tap that
                4. Tap the item you want to buy and a prompt will ask you to buy Chaotic Matter Units or CMUs
                5. Or, you can scroll to the bottom and purchase a CMU package of your choice

                CMU Packages

There are six (6) CMU packages available at launch.

                • 2,500 CMU worth ₱91.83 (at today’s U$ – Ph₱ exchange rate; roughly U$1.963)
                • 7,000 CMU for ₱230.26 (U$4.921)
                • 15,000 CMU for ₱460.98 (U$9.852)
                • 32,000 CMU for ₱922.42 (U$19.71)
                • 90,000 CMU for ₱2,306.74 (U$49.30)
                • 200,000 CMU for ₱4,613.94 (U$98.61)

Obviously, if you buy the bigger packages, you will save a lot as it comes with a bonus CMU. Example, for ₱922.42 (U$19.71) you get 32,000 CMU, but if you purchase 2x 15,000 CMU for ₱460.98 (U$9.85) each, you only get 30,000 CMU for a total price of ₱921.96 (U$19.70).

Basically, the bigger the package, the bigger the bonus CMU. You get 20,000 CMU for free by purchasing the 200,000 CMU package for ₱4,613.94 (U$98.61) than buying 2x 90,000 CMU for ₱2,306.74ea (U$49.30ea).

A tip, think long-term. Consider it an investment, especially if you are purchasing in your local currency, the price fluctuates with your country’s exchange rate against the US Dollars. Not to mention, the available items are mostly not that useful, at least for me. See for yourself in the next section.

                Available Items

Here are the current items that you can purchase in the Store.

                • Portal Fracker: Double Hack Output for 10 Minutes, worth 2400 CMU
                • 1x Key Locker: Store 100 Portal Keys outside of Inventory limit, for 3700 CMU.
                  • Comes in five (5) colors: blue, green, yellow, red, and grey
                  • Maximum of 5 per account
                • Key Locker Pack: Pack of 5 Key Lockers for 14900 CMU
                  • Will give you all 5 colors automatically (not possible to choose)
                  • You save 3600 CMU than by purchasing individually
                • Beacons: Display above the target Portal for 4 hours, 1300 CMU for 3x
                  • Enlightened Beacon (note: I am assuming only Enlightened will see this)
                  • Resistance Beacon (note: I am assuming only Resistance will see this)
                  • Generic Beacon (note: I am assuming both factions will see this)
                  • Meetup Beacon (note: I am assuming both factions will see this)

That’s about it. No doubt, what will everybody initially purchase will be the Key Lockers, as it will free up a total of 500 inventory slots (if you purchase 5). The second top seller will be the Portal Fracker because of the upcoming Abaddon Anomaly, Agents on both sides need to farm gears.

But will the beacons sell as we get closer to November 14, Abaddon Anomaly event? It could be very useful but with the agents carrying radios, a fraction of a second just to release a beacon can mean the defeat of a faction and victory for the other.

Niantic is surely hoping to capitalized on the upcoming Abaddon event, hence, they released the Ingress Store today. If you do not have it yet, first be sure to upgrade to version 1.85.1 and then wait. They are gradually enabling access to accounts on a random basis. At least we haven’t figured out any pattern.

Any items do you want to see in the Store? Share your ideas! Or maybe concerns… I’m sure you have one or two questions bothering you.

                  Sandbox Linkrealms Fall Beta Announced Fri, 23 Oct 2015 04:32:11 +0000 <img width="624" height="312" src="" class="attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image" alt="Linkrealms-logo-bg" style="display: block; margin: auto; margin-bottom: 5px;" srcset="// 300w, // 1024w, // 624w, // 280w, // 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px" /><p>Linkrealms is one of the much-awaited sandbox MMORPG by those who seek true online role-playing. This October 31, the Fall Beta will commence, bringing us closer to the official release of the game.</p> <p>The post <a rel="nofollow" href="">Sandbox Linkrealms Fall Beta Announced</a> by <a rel="nofollow" href="">Yuki</a> appeared first on <a rel="nofollow" href="">gameshogun™</a>.</p>

This 31st of October 2015, the indie game developer Mythyn Interactive will begin the next test phase of their sandbox massively multiplayer online role-playing game Linkrealms. In addition to this, the company announced the availability of the “Founder Packs” which contain unique items and grant access to all upcoming beta tests.

In late August, Linkrealms had its “Summer Beta” and with all the feedback and reports they received during this phase, this coming “Fall Beta” will see an enhanced character diversification. There will also be new four new skills — Staff Fighting, Poisoning, Constitution, and Enlightenment, as well as new spell spells added to the Sorcery spellbook.

Even more interesting for role-players, especially in a sandbox MMORPG is the world map. This upcoming beta, the world has been expanded even more, with the introduction of a new environment, the Forsaken Jungle. It is an area that is home to the Lizzogoths, a hostile race of sentient reptile warriors and mages.

Not only that, there is now a special tutorial area for noobs, I mean, newbies. A useful addition which will be especially useful for players who are coming from themepark MMORPGs.

What is a “Realm” and why “Linkrealms”?

The world of Linkrealms is divided into connected areas called “realms”. Each realm aside from public ones (such as NPC towns and dungeons) contains a portion of land which can be claimed by the players (one user = one realm). If a player owns a realm, he can customize it using the Realm Editor. A realm can include a home to store & display one’s belongings, a garden for farming and livestock, or both. The Realm Editor comes with a very large library of graphics, covering multiple themes & styles that allow each player to create a truly unique environment.

Each realm is visible & available to other players whether the owner is logged in or not, 24 hours a day. Players & creatures can wander through the realm, and the owner’s crops continue to grow. The maximum level of protection a player can set on his own realm depends on the server’s ruleset (soft or hardcore PvP).

                  Founder Packs

There are four (4) Founder Packs available now — the Settler Pack, the Baron Pack, the Duke Pack, and the Prince Pack. Depending on your objective in the game and your budget, at least one pack will suit you.
