Feature: iPhone Games Round-up: Part 2 (Game Boy)

As relative late adopters to the iPhone, we're still working our way through the insane backlog of games that have built up on the app store. Finding the diamonds in the rough is a difficult thing with the amount of content released every week, but we're doing our best. So, for the second outing of our games round-up, we delve into the genre of tower defence for the first time, as well as tackle the use of tilt controls (with varying success) and enjoy one of the biggest technical achievements on the iPhone.

Super Monkey Ball

This is proof that what works on a console doesn't necessarily translate well to a handheld device. After a lengthy and boring tutorial, you're thrust ...

Review: Rock Band Unplugged (PSP)

With Activision extending the Guitar Hero franchise to handheld platforms (to mixed success), it was only natural that EA / MTV Games would follow suit. But they haven't gone for the obvious peripheral add-on route, nor even the most popular handheld; they've taken things back to Harmonix's roots and released something a little more abstract.

Before Guitar Hero, there was Amplitude, and before that, ...

Review: inFamous (PlayStation 3)

Taking a break from the highly acclaimed Sly Cooper series, developers Sucker Punch have decided to have a go at creating their own unique take of a sandbox superhero game. Playing the role of bike messenger Cole McGrath, you wake up at ground zero of a massive explosion that rocks Empire City, causing society to quickly fall apart and violent gangs to take over. The explosion has blessed Cole with the power to absorb and use a variety of electricity-based attacks and abilities which leads to him being blamed as the cause for the disaster. Throughout the course of the game he must discover the truth of what really happened.

The whole game takes place within Empire City and it consists of three islands, with only one accessible to begin with. A mysterious plague has infected the citizens and the old "this isla...

Preview: The Conduit (Wii)

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has shown us that the Wii and First Person Shooters is a winning combination. The console's remote and nunchuk controls offer a level of precision that was previously only available on the PC. Gamestyle cannot understand why more developers haven't done more to utilise one of the Wii’s obvious strengths. Instead, the console has quickly become a haven for disappointing party games, and lazy ports. Up step High Voltage Software, however, with a game that they claim will "provide gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced". A First Person Shooter, built from the ground up with the Wii in mind? Gamestyle is hoping that The Conduit can fulfil its potential.

When footage of High Voltage's Quantum 3 Game Engine was released back in April 2008, people stopped and took notice. Whilst only a tech demo, it got a great deal of coverage, and people started ta...

Review: Virtua Tennis 2009 (PlayStation 3)

Virtua Tennis 2009 is the latest edition of the arcade classic developed for home consoles. With Wimbledon just starting, and tennis fever in the air, SEGA have timed the release perfectly. There's a host of tennis superstars to play as and compete against, and 40 different courts to play on, and the game should one for tennis fans to love. Gamestyle took a closer look to find out whether VT2009 serves up a perfect ace, or is a disastrous double-fault.

The most important aspect of any tennis game are the mechanics. A game can look terrible, but as long as the shot selection and placement are responsive and accurate, you have yourself a good game....

Review: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (PlayStation 3)

Very few licensed games make us go as giddy as we have been playing Ghostbusters. While we were somewhat disappointed that you would be controlling a rookie character who isn't even given a name, after playing it, we understand why that is. The rookie is supposed to be you, and it's you who's fighting alongside the real Ghostbusters. It's like going back to when you were a kid with a fake proton pack strapped to your back.

With the original voice cast reunited and a script penned by Dan Ayckroyd and Harold Ramis, this is essentially the third Ghostbusters movie. Set in 1991 (which is why the characters haven't aged a...

Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Xbox 360)

The 10th of June could almost be called 'Sega Day' on the Xbox Live Arcade. A total of six Mega Drive games appeared, those being Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star II, Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes, and the game we found most interesting, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It's interesting because, for a lot of people, the series started its downward spiral after Sonic 2 and we wanted to refresh our memory and see how it really holds up.

Of course, we might as well have dug out the old Mega Drive if the XBLA emulation wasn't good, but luckily it is. We did encounter one glitch, which caused Sonic to go completely mental and telepor...

Dark and light worlds are nothing new to the world of videogames. We can trace it back to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and that’s just from memory. We’re sure there’s probably more games that came before. However, what you do with this dual world scenario is where a game is made. And Fuzzyeyes steampunk fantasy looks like it’s making the best possible use of it.
