Story

Its a great game and some what easier than some of the other mario games. Was a little disappointed though as I paid Amazon extra to deliver it on release date and it didn’t arrive until the following day.
Overall a great game and my 5 year old loves it.

Vast improvement over the first one! The white raccoon makes all the difference., 30 Aug 2012

If you check my review of the first game, you can see I wasn’t impressed by the totally unbalanced spikes in difficulty. How ever I’ve found number two to be a vast improvement.

The difficulty seems balanced and I’m yet to find any unrealistic and ridiculous difficulty spikes which come out of no where.

The controls feel better and tighter and Mario isn’t sliding all over the placed.

The visuals look sharper and cleaned up for the 3Ds… although the 3D seems a bit pointless, but it looks nice.

And the helpful white raccoon which offers the chance to make levels easier, if you die too many times, is a nice touch and makes it better for us casual gamers.

I’ve just found the second outing to be a lot more casual, fun, easy going and enjoyable.
The extra encouragement on collecting coins, and the mechanics around that, also adds a lot more replay value to the game.

A nice improvement.

First of all, I would like to say that I am not a long time mario gamer (I am 12.) I got NSMB1 when I was seven and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it (it kept me entertained for like 6 months, and even now if someone has a cartridge i give a speedrun a go).
This game has so far proven to be very entertaining, and all the people complaining about only 6 worlds, well this game has the Mushroom World, the Flower World and the Star world, and an additonal coin rush mode and dlc promised, while NSMB only had 8 basic worlds, no special ones.
Coin rush mode is incredible fun. You get three courses to get as many coins as possible. Its fun beating your own record (mine is 26666) and just upping your coin total.
I have one concern though. I bought this game from the eshop, and it cost me 40 quid. Here its only 30 quid. So buy it at a retailer or from amazon.

That’s quite a treasure you have there in that Diablo 3, 15 May 2012

I played a lot of Diablo 2 when it came out, it’s one of my favourite PC games of all time. Playing it again recently, certain flaws stood out like how while it’s still addictive to grind for loot, and while it’s cool to see a special enemy and eagerly kick the crap out of it in the hope of something special dropping, the actual fighting – the combat system – is kind of flat and repetitive. Diablo 3 keeps the things that Diablo 2 did right, but has made the combat incredibly satisfying, varied and meaty. There’s a huge amount of ways to use each skill in conjunction with others – like using the Monk’s dash-attack skill to run between enemy groups to keep your combo count going (which bags you more XP).

It may seem to Diablo 2 veterans that removing skills trees and the ability to level up individual skills would remove depth, but it’s quite the opposite. Rather than putting 1 point into skills just to move along the skill tree to the good skills, you now get useful skills straight away that steadily become upgradeable in specific and fun ways. It’s not usually just “X skill now does 10 more damage” like in Diablo 2, the very way in which the skill works is different. Your kick is now a fire kick, your summoned spiders can now leap around onto distant enemies, your poison darts now shoot 3 times quickly but don’t do sustained poison damage any more.

Each class has unique quests and many specific cutscenes throughout the story (there’s one for each gender of the five classes). There’s a really adsorbing and atmospheric feel to the game, helped by the fantastic music which is a trademark of the series. The sound effects add a lot as you crack open old logs, beat enemies so hard they fall to pieces and open chests that splurge out loot all over the place like a bulimic girl who’s just eaten a bucket of chocolate coins. Diablo 2 did all this as well, but Diablo 3 takes it further and improves on it. Everything about it is just so moreish, the achievements mean there’s always something to aim for on top of getting better loot, levelling up, crafting items, doing quests and figuring out the perfect build. There’s always something popping up and telling you how amazing that thing you just did was, or how you’ve accomplished something new or have a cool new skill to try out.

I couldn’t recommend it more. Whether you play for the story, for the atmosphere, for the challenge (i.e. Inferno on Hardcore), for the co-op with friends, for the fun of figuring out great builds or just for the jangly music and chunky sound effects, you won’t be disappointed. And this is before any patches and additional content, like Diablo 2 had with Lord of Destruction.

Diablo 3 is finally with us and it has been worth the wait. The collector’s edition of this game contains good quality extras that were also worth the extra price tag, and if I hadn’t have managed to secure one myself I would be looking to buy one even at the current inflated prices from resellers. The art book is stunning, page after page of beautiful graphics work and original art that is sure to be a talking point when left on the coffee table. The skull and soulstone look and feel expensive, and I’m refusing to watch the behind the scenes DVD yet as I really don’t want to spoil myself for the storyline.

The gameplay is smooth and engaging, harking back to the older games in the series enough so that die-hard fans will feel at home, snippets of the older game music also bring back those old memories. The newcomer to the franchise will not be dissappointed either as you can dive straight into the storyline without feeling that you’re missing back story. Lore and information is drip fed to you in such a way that you are learning as you level without any hint of a tutorial or being hand-held. The achievement system is fun and adds to the game without immediately becoming a reason to compulsively collect all possible points, and some achievements ping up in normal gameplay before I’ve noticed that they exist. Weapons and armor are easily obtained and I reached level 10 on my first character in a few hours of gameplay with a couple of ‘rare’ items and some solid pieces without having to level up any artisans, purchase or craft anything.

Gold drops like rain. There will be no issue affording most of what you want to buy from the gold auction house. I picked up the ‘scavenger’ achievement for 10k gold found in a few hours of casual gaming. Of course I did have the advantage of having beta tested the game, but I’m sure it wouldn’t take long for even a novice gamer to pick this game up. It is simple to learn but I suspect tough to master and will keep me entertained for a fair while yet. Random dungeon configuration means that replayability is not an issue. Even taking the same character back through the same levels takes a while to become repetitive. The layout of the places you enter changes, and random events can appear at any time giving good quality drops and often an achievement.

Visually this game is very nice. It’s not always stunningly beautiful, although there are places where the art and design are just that, especially in the cinematic sequences. The ‘paper’ effect of some of them looks to be slightly lower quality, but the animated sequences where the non player characters appear are breathtaking and incredibly well done. Of course this means that the game will not run well on a low end computer. You really do need the graphics card and processor power behind a more up to date machine. Most laptops that don’t have a dedicated graphics card are going to struggle, but having said that if you’re running a machine that’s i5 core with a reasonable card there simply is no lag. All the combat calculations are done client side and the results sent to the server, meaning that combat lag is just not an issue. Even a slower internet connection isn’t going to be at much of a disadvantage over someone with fibreoptic mega speeds.

The online aspect of this game, public chat and random other people are not an issue. If you don’t want to interact, simply ignore the public chat channels and keep your games private. You won’t be bothered in the least. If you want to interact with other players, it is also simple. Join chat channels, open games, jump in to other people’s games and have fun.

This game is fantastic. The music is great and all the family can get together to keep fit. There are different levels and you start at the bottom and work your way up if your not very fit. Would recommend to anyone.

I ordered this after christmas and I had read the reviews that it was much better than the first version, which I haven’t tried. I would say that this is a very good!
As I couldn’t wait to get started I did the single song first as I am very un-fit. However I managed this with ease.
I tried the next 2 levels and I soon worked up a sweat.
Playing the Wii has made me quite competitive and I always like to beat my own scores as soon as possible.
If you like music and you want something a little different and more energetic that Wii Sports then this is it.
You also get things to unlock by completing all songs which really motivates me to do more and more.
I find it difficult to fit exercise in but I love that I can do Zumba in my own home as the classes in my area finish too early where I live as I work quite late.
I would definitely recommend it whether you have zumba experience or not!

Received this game as a christmas present and so glad I did as its made me get my moneys worth out of the Wii. Ive not got the first game so cant comment on whether its better than that but really love this one, I’m finding it better than the wii fit and keep wanting to go back on day after day. You definitely work up a sweat doing this and can do as much or as little as you like. Some good music and some of the same music from the classes, definitely better than the DVD I’ve only ever done that a couple of times. You can also track your progress and how much you’ve been playing,calories burnt. You also get things to unlock such as playing twice in one week/ four times a week/ completing all songs/a high intensity song which really motivates me to do more and more. I find it difficult to fit exercise in but I love that I can do Zumba in my own home without having to pay for every class and go out in the cold/dark. I have read some reviews that don’t rate it very good but you can make it as good as you want, some people are just too picky! I would definitely recommend it whether you have zumba experience or not!

Got this game 1 day early and it was soo worth it!!!! Extreme fun in all original and new events! There are 31 events, 55 party missions and a unbeliveable 266 costumes!!!!! Much more of a challange than previous games in events and the London Party Mode is spectacular!!!!!!!!!! Favourite M&S game of all time!!!!

Bright blue skies are a staple of Sega games and now they can be seen above the sun-drenched city of London. At last! Yes, glorious weather, immaculate streets without a burning car, looted shop or persistent beggar in sight, venues packed with spectators delighted with the service on offer – this is probably a vision only Sega and Seb Coe could have of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The first Mario & Sonic Olympics release had it easy, realising the once impossible dream of bringing together Nintendo and Sega’s world-famous mascots and former arch rivals for the first time. It was always going to be a hit (even though it made sense to nobody that Sonic could be beaten by Mario in a sprint). Then the second game added snow, and, as everyone knows, adding snow to a videogame makes it approximately 461 times better. Along with a host of new winter events (curling was so awesome), it helped make Mario & Sonic at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games feel like an entirely new experience. The third title is a tougher sell and I’d wrongly assumed this review would write itself in one sentence: ‘As good as ever, but don’t bother if you have the original game.’ That statement is half-true. The first half.

Right from the attract sequence that depicts the gang on a red bus passing famous London landmarks, you’re in a happy place and this game is already on its way to earning a bonus star from most Brits. Then there’s London Party Mode, which is where you and your family will be spending a lot of time. If you like Mario Party, you’ll love this. Up to four participants run around the streets of a mini London in topdown mode, featuring the likes of the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. The first objective is Free Mode where you seek various Mario and Sonic characters who’ll put everyone in an event to compete for stickers. There are exclusive bonus minigames here, including one called ‘Go Away Boo!’ which is basically a variant of Pac-man with Mario and Sonic characters being chased around London by Boos. And that, in a nutshell, is how you automatically earn five stars from me. Soon Big Ben will chime and it’s time for a major event. The party goes on until someone has collected enough stickers to fill their book. Party games get plenty of flack, and I’m quite the gaming snob myself, but if you’re looking for a game to get the family together around the Wii on Christmas Day and get everyone in a good mood, this is up there with the best recommendations.

Familiar disciplines have had an upgrade. Throwing events, for instance, are now more intuitive than before. On top of that there’s a selection of newcomers. Football is the headliner. Whisper it, but in some ways it’s more fun than recent FIFA and PES titles in a stripped down kind-of-way. Hold the remote horizontally (nunchuck control is optional) and you’ve got direction, tackle, pass and shoot buttons. No strategy menus to deal with, just five-a-side fun. It really does work well, not a million miles away from a cutdown version of Mario Strikers Charged. Something else that should please everyone is that all events are unlocked from the start.

Dream events are back. Among them is the Dream Long Jump, which has a backdrop straight out of Yoshi’s Story and reminds me a little of multiplayer New Super Mario Bros Wii. Elsewhere there’s a bit of Super Monkey Ball-esque racing. You won’t be left wanting for fanservice or diversity. As with the regular events, when you’re not trying to beat your family, you’re co-operating, as in the Dream Rafting where you all have to keep balance of the raft together.

Perhaps noticing the popularity of Dream Events in previous games, power moves now play a big part in the regular disciplines. Olympic purists may disapprove, and with good reason because events such as table tennis and badminton are regularly settled by power shots. It’s moments like this where you also regret that Sega hasn’t moved on to Motionplus controls. These racquet sports in particular feel a bit 2006. As for fencing, well, I didn’t even get what was going on, only that a lot of random waggling and button presses should see you through to victory as well as any tactic. With so much on offer, though, it’s greedy to expect all of it to be perfect.

Three Games in and the dream team franchise is still going strong as a multiplayer get-together and a contemporary Track & Field revival with button bashing replaced by Remote swinging. And when it comes to other Olympics tie-ins and cash-ins released next year, expect Mario & Sonic to take the gold medal on gameplay alone. Best isn’t always simple, but simple’s always best.

A Nostalgic Roadtrip in 3D!, November 24, 2011

This was my most anticipated 3DS came since it has been announced and I’m glad to say , I’m not disappointed. The levels are short so I can play a couple levels during the breaks I get. The graphics are the best on the system and fully take advantage of the 3D. The game was built so that 3D is necessary not just an enhancement. The first 8 Worlds are pretty easy , but the difficulty becomes ridiculous after Special World 3. There are 8 Special Worlds and the oppurtunity to collect Star Medals that give this game high replay value. I strongly recommend a purchase.

I’m an avid fan of Nintendo. Still, I feel the release of the 3DS was a bit rushed. The launch games were lacking, being mostly remakes or gimmicky games trying to show off the capabilities of the new system. With this game however, Nintendo hit the sweet spot. They have made a truly amazing game on their revolutionary new console. The platforming feels spot on, with game play from 2d and 3d Mario games. If I had to describe it, I would say it is 2.5D, if that makes any sense. It is like a 2d platformer, but instead of having just a foreground to play in, you play in multiple foregrounds and backgrounds. This game has tanooki fever. There are tanooki goombas, tanooki bullet Bills, tanooki Bowsers, and of course, tanooki Mario. Defeating goombas with my tail is something I haven’t done since Mario 3. This game is HUGE. In order to have a 5 star file you have to complete all levels, get all the star coins, complete all levels as Luigi, get to the top of every flagpole, and get to the top of every flagpole as Luigi.

Cons:The tanooki suit makes things almost too easy, it almost feels like cheating. In the last couple of levels are hard in a bad way. They only give you 30 seconds to complete them, with clocks scattered over the level that give you 10 extra seconds. And they use Shadow Clones, shadowy Mario dopplegangers that follow your every move, damaging you if they touch you. It makes me feel as if I’m running out of a building that is going to explode with a gunman chasing after me.

Overall, the good outweighs the bad, giving you no reason to pass up on this game.

This game is a blast. It incorporates elements of the other Mario games and also adds new features and obstacles. I haven’t had this much fun playing a DS game in a long time. You can tell a lot of time and innovation was put into this game, along with an appreciation for the nostalgia that surrounds the Mario franchise. Worth every penny!

I pre-ordered just dance 3 and it arrived the day after it was released so i was very pleased with how quick it got here. I havent had a chance to complete all the songs yet as there are a lot to choose from. I love it so far, its great fun. tried it with a mate and my boyfriend, my mate loved it. i have the other just dance games and they were a huge hit with my mates when we had games evenings and im sure this one will be too.

I started Just Dance 2. Loved it but something was missing.
Just Dance 3 a RPG like system, the more you play and well the more song and medals you can get.
It really add a dimension on wanting to get more from the game than just having only all the out of box songs forever.
The new Dance-crew mode is hilarious.
It is so easy to lost track of the time playing Just Dance 3.
The only thing that could make it better would be to be able to play against people around the world via internet.

Great EP, 11 Aug 2011

If you like Sim families, this adds lots of nice extra interactions between the sims. The Imaginary friend is cute, probably not great if you have a clown phobia though. You don’t get as much new kid related items as I thought you would but it really makes a lot more out of the family interactions.

I’m pleased that you can now adjust the length of each life stage so that you can shorten the amount of time it takes to age up to the next level.

Improves the game., 28 July 2011

Firstly, this is a really fun expansion pack that you can’t eat up all at once (or so I think), this is down to the fact that the new features involve and are relevant to most aspects of your Sim’s lifetime. Saying this, it is relatively child/teen orientated, so if you don’t enjoy raising a family you won’t notice a lot of new content but it may still improve general gameplay (midlife crisis aspirations, new items like walking sticks for elders etc..)

Imaginary Friends: I’ve only come across one so far (sent in the post from a mysterious relative) and it was essentially a clown toy. They grow up with your Sim if you form a good bond with them. At first they are pretty fun and it’s a nice addition. However I’ve got to say by the time my Sim became an adult I was quite sick of it following him around everywhere… I didn’t manage to make my Sim’s friend real though, which may have made it more interesting.
Pranks: These are a bit weird but are a good addition for the more mischievous Sims. You can see where you’ve put them (pink shiny light) so you don’t forget and they are funny to watch.
Tree houses: I like these, simply to look at frankly but it’s a good place to dump the kid Sims for awhile. It’s a nice feature. There are also many other toy-like items and outdoor activities for children. (There’s a dress-up box which is adorable).
Teen features: The ‘mood swing’ brings on new aspirations, I got points for skipping school for example. My Sim parents had a random ‘free vacation’ which meant they went away, so I only had my teen Sim to worry about for 2 Sim days which was nice. In this time you could throw wild parties etc.. I’m not sure if there was a curfew before but there’s one now. There are also options such as driving lessons, prom and a graduation ceremony (which you don’t see unfortunately) when your Sim becomes a young adult.

As others have pointed out it’s a shame there is no new neighbourhood but in a way it would just be more of the same so I can see why it wasn’t added. A lot of the material is for your lot rather than a wider setting. I disagree that it is more like a stuff pack simply because of the additions like teen ‘mood swings’ and the midlife crisis which do improve general gameplay quite significantly in my opinion.

Overall I think this expansion pack stops the game dragging as much, particularly in the earlier years where it can all get a bit repetitive. However it is probably only worth the money if you actually like the family-orientated kind of games as other reviewers have said otherwise you won’t benefit fully from all the new features.

Another Classic Lego Game, 1 July 2011

I purchased this game recently as a present for my 4 year old son.

My son had already played Lego Batman on the Wii, so I decided this would be a great treat since he loved Batman Lego. The game focuses on the 4 films, and you can move between films at your leisure. Each map represents one of the films, and you have 5 levels to play through to unlock that map.

As a family we’re still playing through this game, over 80 characters to unlock / purchase, and some puzzles on each level to keep you guessing. You’ll find if you have young children that mum and dad will have to get involved as sometimes the levels need an adult mind to unlock, even then some parents will still be left scratching their head.

Overall a fantastic game, and as with most Wii games not just for the kids. The humour from the films is captured in the game play, and the lego characters act out some very funny parts from the films.

PS. Amazon were the cheapest around for this game, I paid just over £20 brand new!

Great Game from Lego & Disney suitable for children and adults. As with other lego games has funny bits of humour, with good selection of tasks & puzzles.

This is another game carrying on the line of the brilliant Lego games. Following the storylines from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in the same way as the Star Wars and Indiana Jones games did, this has kept me and my grandsons fully occupied since purchased. Some tricky puzzles make sure that it won’t be completed too soon but at the same time nothing too mind stretching.
