As I'm sure you've noticed, things have been pretty dead around here lately. This is not surprising — everyone, including myself, seems to be occupied by this thing called "life". Damn life!

At this stage, I think the thing that we really need if we want to liven things up, and inspire us 6R veterans to be more active, is new members. With GameToAid's Apocalyptathon just around the corner, I think we should work together to make the most of this opportunity. Let's do everything we can to make 6R attractive to our marathon guests, and promote it during the marathon like there's no tomorrow!

Let me address the first point: making 6R attractive to potential newcomers. I think it's pretty clear that something's not quite "right" about the forum as it is, given that we've had a minimal number of new members from past marathons. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but here's a few questions I'm asking myself:

Could low activity levels / lack of interesting discussion prior to the marathon be putting potential new members off?

Could the name "6 Rupees" be confusing/unclear as to what this forum actually is and its relationship with GameToAid? Would something simple like "GameToAid Forum" be better?

On that note, would a more GameToAid-centric focus be beneficial, since our primary source of members is GameToAid? (and let's face it, there's nothing interesting happening in the Zelda world these days)

Could the skin / use of esoTalk, and how unconventional it is compared to the average internet forum, be off-putting?

Even when we do get new members, often they'll only stay around for a few days/weeks and then we'll never hear from then again. How can we hook people into staying?

I'd love to hear all of your thoughts!

Last weekend, the GameToAid team sat down and raced through six Zelda games. Through ups and downs, temples and caves, and unfortunately, a few rings, we managed to complete all of them in about 84 hours. Meanwhile, you guys tuned in and donated $11,194.09 to Child's Play—and we can't thank you enough!

(Artwork by CranberryTime)

100% of this money went directly to Child's Play, and will go to hospitals where it is needed to provide sick children with distractions, such as video games, toys, and books. Child's Play is a fantastic cause that rightfully gets a lot of support from fundraisers all around the world, and it was thrilling to finally do a fundraiser for them at GameToAid.

On our side of things, this marks the most we have ever raised in a fundraiser. So, viewers and donors alike, words can't thank you enough for your constant support... You all rock!

The marathon itself ran just over 84 hours, and the two teams—Beedle and Tingle—raced through 6 of the best Zelda games in the official timeline order. Team Tingle got off to a flying start with Scott exploiting some l33t hax in Skyward Sword to wrap it up in 14 hours. But it was all Beedle from there, as they took the wins for Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, and finally, The Wind Waker. With the final point tally a lopsided 105 to 55, I think we may need to devise a better system for picking teams...

Many memorable moments were had during this marathon, ranging from the unexpected Infinite Ocarinas glitch in Majora's Mask to the epic blindfolded battle with Ganondorf in The Wind Waker. We received a whopping 650+ pieces of fan art (by far the most we've ever had in a marathon), so thank you for all those who took the time to brighten our weekend!

I'd like to thank Twitch.tv for their amazing streaming service and promotional support throughout the event. Also, a huge thanks to everyone else who promoted us, be it on a blog, sharing over Facebook and Twitter, or simply by word of mouth.

So, with that, I guess it's time to start looking forward to the next GameToAid marathon! As always, stay tuned on Facebook and Twitter for updates, and join our forum 6 Rupees to stay in touch.

It's that time of the year again—the mid-year uni break in Australia is rapidly approaching. That means it's time for a new marathon announcement!

If you've seen the "teaser" image that was posted a few days ago (or read the title of this news post, for that matter), you've probably guessed what the theme for this next one is. It starts with a 'Z', and ends with an 'elda'. That's right—we're doing a Zelda marathon!

Thanks to CranberryTime for the banner artwork. It looks fantastic!

Personally, I've been looking forward to doing a Zelda marathon ever since we started GameToAid (and even a bit before that.) It certainly is an exciting prospect, given that the Zelda series contains some of the greatest games ever created.

The marathon will take place over the July 5-8 weekend. We haven't yet finalised the exact start time, but we'll announce that closer to the date.

The charity we have selected to support during this fundraiser is Child's Play. Child's Play seeks to improve the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game industry and the power of play. It's an honour to be supporting such a great gaming-related cause, and I hope that together with your help we can make a difference to a bunch of childrens' lives.

Fittingly, we are playing the games in timeline order, as per the timeline recently released by Nintendo. Of course, as the timeline splits into three separate timelines after Ocarina of Time, we can't really simulate that in a marathon. (Does anyone have a spare time machine lying around?) Additionally, we won't have time to play all of the Zelda games (we'd need a full week for that.) Rather, we'll simply be playing these games in this order:

Skyward Sword

Ocarina of Time

A Link to the Past

The Legend of Zelda

Majora's Mask

The Wind Waker

Depending on how many competent players we can get to practice, some or all of these games will be raced! Ideally, we'll have two teams, just like in our first ever marathon, Game Over School. Team Bacon FTW!

So, without further ado, you can view the page on which the marathon will take place here. Feel free to give the fan art page a kick start. We'll be opening up donations for Child's Play within the coming weeks, so keep your wallets (or PayPal accounts!) handy, and stay tuned for more details!

After Ocarina of Time was released, Nintendo promised an expansion pseudo-sequel using the Nintendo 64 DD tentatively titled Ura Zelda. However, this expansion never saw the light of day due to the failure of the 64DD, and Nintendo moved on to begin work on Majora's Mask. Now, a fan project is currently in development to recreate what Ura Zelda could've been. Read on for more information and a trailer.

About The URA Project The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time URA is an expansion based from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Nintendo promised a great tale of adventure, new dungeons, new side quest and much more but it was never delivered due to the failure of the 64DD. A group of hackers have joined together, creating their own version of URA (known around the community as The URA Project) with their ideas and input from the community on the direction to take this project. Their goal? To make it one of the best expansions to follow in the footsteps of Ocarina of Time.

Check out the official project website for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Ura here.

Source: Zelda Informer
