Monday evening at NRG Stadium in Houston delivers one of the standout Round of 32 clashes as Brazil face Japan in a knockout tie that few would have predicted at the tournament’s outset. Brazil topped Group C in impressive fashion, registering seven goals across their three matches. Japan came through Group F in second place behind the Netherlands, with a five-point haul built on a stunning 4–0 win over Tunisia and two competitive draws against the Dutch and Sweden. One side’s World Cup ends here.

Brazil were the dominant force in Group C and have looked every inch a contender. Their most recent outing was a composed 3–0 win away against Scotland on 24th June — a clinical performance that wrapped up top spot with a game to spare. Prior to that, they beat Haiti 3–0 at home on 20th June in a straightforward display of quality. Earlier in this run, a 1–1 draw at home to Morocco on 13th June was their only dropped point of the group stage, and pre-tournament friendlies showed further promise — a 2–1 home win over Egypt on 6th June and a 6–2 home demolition of Panama on 31st May. Brazil finished Group C top on seven points with a goal difference of +6, ahead of Morocco who matched their points tally but trailed on goal difference.

Japan have been one of the most exciting sides to watch in the group stage and will not arrive here with any sense of inferiority. Their most recent outing was a 1–1 draw at home against Sweden on 26th June — a point they will consider dropped in the group, however it proved enough to see them through in second place. Prior to that, they produced arguably the result of the tournament’s group stage with a 4–0 thrashing away against Tunisia on 21st June. Earlier in this run, a 2–2 draw away against the Netherlands on 14th June — a game in which they twice came back — showed their character under pressure. Pre-tournament, a 1–0 home win over Iceland on 31st May and a 1–0 win away in England on 31st March confirmed a team in excellent form. Japan finished second in Group F on five points with a goal difference of +4, behind the Netherlands who took seven.

The head-to-head record heavily favours Brazil, who have won four of the last five meetings with Japan winning the other. Most recently however, Japan pulled off a shock result — beating Brazil 3–2 at home in a friendly in October 2025. In the previous encounter, Brazil won 1–0 away in Japan in June 2022.

In the UK, the match is covered on TalkSport Radio UK and BBC Radio 5 Live. In Brazil, the game is live on SporTV, Globo, GloboPlay, and CazéTV. Japanese audiences can follow on DAZN Japan. US viewers can catch the action on FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Sunday evening at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles delivers one of the more intriguing Round of 32 matchups as South Africa take on Canada in a straight knockout fixture. Both sides arrive with plenty to prove — South Africa as group runners-up in Group A, qualifying behind an unbeaten Mexico side, while Canada came through Group B in second place behind Switzerland. One slip and the tournament is over; it is knockout football at its most unforgiving.

South Africa navigated Group A with a combination of grit and efficiency. Their most recent outing was a 1–0 win at home against South Korea on 25th June — the result that confirmed their second-place finish and set up this last-thirty-two tie. Prior to that, they drew 1–1 away to Czech Republic on 18th June, claiming a valuable point in a competitive fixture. Earlier in this run, a 2–0 defeat away to Mexico on 11th June was the one significant setback, while a 1–1 draw away in Jamaica on 6th June and a 0–0 draw at home to Nicaragua on 29th May in a pre-tournament friendly round out a sequence of one win, three draws and one loss. South Africa finished second in Group A on four points, with a goal difference of -1, behind Mexico who swept the group with a perfect nine points.

Canada were one of the more eye-catching sides in the group stage, particularly their 6–0 demolition of Qatar. Their most recent outing was a 2–1 defeat away to Switzerland on 24th June — a result that denied them top spot but left them secure in second place on four points. Prior to that, they thrashed Qatar 6–0 at home on 18th June in a dominant display that showcased their attacking quality. Earlier in this run, a 1–1 draw at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina on 12th June, a 1–1 draw at home to Ireland on 6th June in a friendly, and a 2–0 home win over Uzbekistan on 2nd June complete a sequence of two wins, two draws and one defeat. Canada finished second in Group B on four points with a goal difference of +5, behind Switzerland who took seven from a possible nine.

The head-to-head record between these sides is almost entirely absent from the record books. The one previous meeting, a friendly in November 2007, ended 2–0 to South Africa at home — the only data point available.

In the UK, the match is live on ITV 1 and available to stream via ITVX and STV Player, with radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live and TalkSport Radio UK. In Canada, audiences can follow on TSN+, TSN1, RDS, and CTV. South African viewers can catch the action on SuperSport MaXimo 1, SABC 1, SABC 3, and DStv App. US viewers have access via FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Sunday morning’s Group J fixture at AT&T Stadium in Arlington pits Jordan against Argentina in a match that carries very different significance for each side. Argentina have already topped the group on six points, winning both their games without conceding a goal. Jordan are bottom with nothing from two matches and eliminated, their tournament over in all but this final 90 minutes. For Argentina this is an opportunity to manage fitness and minutes with the knockout rounds in mind; for Jordan it is a chance to finally register their first point or win of the tournament and give their supporters a moment to remember.

Jordan have found this group stage an extremely demanding experience. Their most recent outing was a 2–1 home defeat to Algeria on 23rd June — their best result of the tournament in terms of the contest, but one that ultimately confirmed their elimination. Prior to that, they lost 3–1 away to Austria on 17th June in a match that exposed their defensive vulnerabilities. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament form was equally bleak — a 2–0 defeat away to Colombia on 8th June, a 4–1 defeat away to Switzerland on 31st May, and a 2–2 draw at home to Nigeria on 31st March rounds out a sequence of zero wins, one draw and four losses across five. Jordan have yet to win a competitive match in this run and face their stiffest test yet against the defending champions.

Argentina have been utterly dominant throughout this group stage and their performances suggest a side firmly focused on winning the tournament. Their most recent outing was a 2–0 home win over Austria on 22nd June — a clean, professional display in which they never looked troubled. Prior to that, they beat Algeria 3–0 at home on 17th June to open their World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament form was equally impressive — a 3–0 home win over Iceland on 10th June, a 2–0 home win over Honduras on 7th June, and a 5–0 home demolition of Zambia on 1st April complete a flawless five-game sequence with no goals conceded. Argentina have the quality to rotate heavily here while still producing a winning performance.

In Group J, Argentina lead on six points with a goal difference of +5, already through as group winners barring a miracle. Austria sit second on three points with a goal difference of zero. Algeria are third on three points with a goal difference of -2. Jordan are bottom with no points and a goal difference of -3. Argentina’s result here is immaterial to their group standing; the race for second will be decided in the simultaneous Algeria vs Austria fixture.

These two nations have no previous meetings on record — this is a first-ever encounter between Jordan and Argentina.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC One and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. In Argentina, audiences can follow on Televisión Pública, TyC Sports Argentina, Telefe Argentina, and DIRECTV Sports Argentina. In Jordan, viewers can catch the action on beIN SPORTS CONNECT. US viewers have access via FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Competition – 2026 World Cup

Kick-off time – 03:00 GMT

Sunday morning’s Group J decider at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City presents one of the most finely balanced scenarios of the entire group stage. Algeria sit third on three points and Austria sit second on three points — they are level on points but Austria hold the edge on goal difference, currently zero to Algeria’s -2. Argentina have already topped the group on six points. Both Algeria and Austria are still alive, but only one can go through in second place, making this fixture a straight knockout contest in everything but name.

Algeria have been a side of contrasts across their opening two group games. Their most recent outing was a 2–1 win away against Jordan on 23rd June — a hard-fought victory that kept them in contention and showed their ability to grind out results under pressure. Prior to that, they suffered a 3–0 defeat away to Argentina on 17th June, a result that was heavy but not entirely unexpected given the gulf in class between the two sides. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament form was encouraging — a 4–0 win away in Bolivia on 11th June was emphatic, a 1–0 win away in the Netherlands on 3rd June was a genuinely impressive result, and a 0–0 draw at home to Uruguay on 31st March rounded out three wins, one draw and one defeat from five. Algeria are a dangerous side when they get their high press working and their front runners firing.

Austria come into this fixture with four wins from their last five outings and carry considerable momentum despite their most recent result. Their most recent outing was a 2–0 defeat away to Argentina on 22nd June — a result that looks worse on paper than the performance suggested, with Austria competing well before being undone by individual quality. Prior to that, they beat Jordan 3–1 at home on 17th June in a comfortable group stage performance. Earlier in this run, a 1–0 home win over Tunisia on 1st June, a 1–0 home win over South Korea on 31st March, and a 5–1 home demolition of Ghana on 27th March complete a sequence of four consecutive wins before the Argentina defeat. Austria are organised, physically robust, and dangerous from set pieces — qualities that will be tested in a high-stakes environment.

In Group J, Argentina lead on six points with a goal difference of +5 and are already through. Austria sit second on three points with a goal difference of zero. Algeria are third on three points with a goal difference of -2. Jordan are fourth with no points and a goal difference of -3. Austria hold a two-goal advantage in goal difference over Algeria going into this fixture. A win for either side sends them through — a draw would send Austria through on superior goal difference, unless the margins shift dramatically.

The only previous meeting between these sides came at the 1982 World Cup, where Austria won 2–0 away — the sole data point in this fixture’s head-to-head history.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC Two and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio coverage on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. In Algeria, viewers can follow on ENTV and Al Aoula Algeria. In Austria, the game is broadcast on ORF eins and ORF ON. US viewers can catch the action on Fox Sports 1, fuboTV, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo, and UNIVERSO.

Sunday morning’s Group K closer at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta brings Congo DR and Uzbekistan together in a fixture that carries limited stakes for the knockout picture above but significant meaning for both nations in terms of pride, standing, and tournament momentum. Neither side can qualify barring a miracle — Congo DR sit third on one point and Uzbekistan are bottom with nothing from two games — but a win here represents a meaningful achievement at a first World Cup for Uzbekistan and a statement of intent for a Congo DR side with genuine potential.

Congo DR have been competitive without securing the results their performances arguably merited. Their most recent outing was a 1–0 defeat away to Colombia on 24th June — a tight match in which they were not embarrassed but ultimately could not find a way through against the group leaders. Prior to that, they drew 1–1 away to Portugal on 17th June — a result that speaks volumes about their quality, holding one of the tournament’s stronger sides on equal terms for the full ninety minutes. Earlier in this run, a 2–1 home defeat to Chile on 9th June, a 0–0 draw at home to Denmark on 3rd June, and a 1–0 home win over Jamaica on 31st March in qualification rounds out a sequence of one win, two draws and two losses. Congo DR have shown they can compete but will want to end their tournament with a first group stage win.

Uzbekistan have found the group stage a difficult experience, but their results have to be seen in context — they have faced Colombia and Portugal, two of the strongest sides in the tournament, and lost to both by comfortable margins. Their most recent outing was a 5–0 defeat away to Portugal on 23rd June — a heavy result that left their goal difference at -7. Prior to that, they lost 3–1 at home to Colombia on 18th June in their opening group game. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament preparation was equally tough — a 2–1 defeat away in the Netherlands on 8th June, a 2–0 defeat away in Canada on 2nd June, and a penalty shootout win at home over Venezuela on 30th March was their only positive result across five outings. Uzbekistan are here to learn and grow, but this represents their best chance of a first World Cup point or win.

In Group K, Colombia lead on six points with a goal difference of +3. Portugal sit second on four points with a goal difference of +5. Congo DR are third on one point with a goal difference of -1. Uzbekistan are fourth with no points and a goal difference of -7. Neither side in this fixture can advance, but the result will determine third and fourth place in the group.

These two nations have no previous meetings on record — this is an entirely new fixture with no head-to-head history between Congo DR and Uzbekistan.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC Two and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. In Uzbekistan, viewers can follow on Zoʻr TV and Salom TV. Congo DR audiences can catch the action on Tele Congo, RTNC, and Startimes Sports Life, while US viewers have access via Fox Sports 1, fuboTV, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo, and UNIVERSO.

Sunday morning’s Group K finale at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami is a genuinely mouth-watering encounter. Colombia top the group on six points, having won both their opening fixtures. Portugal sit second on four points, one win and one draw from two games. Both sides have all but qualified for the knockout rounds, but the stakes remain high — first place in this group could determine the path through the last sixteen, and neither side will want to enter the knockout phase with a defeat.

Colombia have been the outstanding side in Group K and carry genuine momentum into this game. Their most recent outing was a 1–0 home win over D.R. Congo on 24th June — a controlled performance that confirmed their place at the top of the group with a game to spare. Prior to that, they won 3–1 away in Uzbekistan on 18th June in their tournament opener — a commanding result that set the tone early. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament form was equally impressive: a 2–0 home win over Jordan on 8th June, a 3–1 home win over Costa Rica on 2nd June, and a 3–1 home defeat to France on 29th March was their only blemish across five outings. Four wins and one loss — Colombia arrive here as the form side in the group and will be determined to protect top spot.

Portugal are not far behind in terms of quality, and their one dropped point — a 1–1 draw at home to D.R. Congo on 17th June — is something of an anomaly in an otherwise dominant run. Their most recent outing was a ruthless 5–0 home dismantling of Uzbekistan on 23rd June, a display that underlined their attacking firepower and set up this fixture perfectly. Prior to that, the D.R. Congo draw was the only moment of frustration. Earlier in this run, a 2–1 home win over Nigeria on 10th June, a 2–1 home win over Chile on 6th June, and a 2–0 win away in the USA on 1st April complete a sequence of four wins and one draw. Portugal are in excellent shape and will fancy their chances of leapfrogging Colombia at the summit.

In Group K, Colombia lead on six points with a goal difference of +3. Portugal sit second on four points with a goal difference of +5 — better in goal difference but two points behind. Congo DR are third on one point with a goal difference of -1. Uzbekistan are fourth with no points and a goal difference of -7. A Colombia win confirms them as group winners; a Portugal win puts them top of the group. A draw keeps Colombia first. Every goal will matter.

These two nations have no previous meeting on record — this is an entirely new fixture with no head-to-head history to draw upon.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC One and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio coverage on Talksport 2 Radio UK and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. In Colombia, audiences can follow on Caracol TV, RCN Television, DIRECTV Sports Colombia, and Caracol Play. In Portugal, the game is broadcast on Sport TV 1 and RTP 1. US viewers can catch the action on FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Saturday evening at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey brings Group L to a close as Panama host England in what amounts to a dead rubber for one side and a chance for experimentation for the other. England sit in first place on four points, their qualification is on the line and everything hinges on this result. Panama are bottom with nothing from two games and cannot progress — for the Central Americans, this is a final opportunity to end a difficult tournament on a positive note and give their fans something to celebrate.

Panama have found this group stage a stern test. Their most recent outing was a 1–0 home defeat to Croatia on 24th June — a result that ended their qualification hopes at the third-round stage. Prior to that, they lost 1–0 away to Ghana on 18th June in a tight contest where chances were limited. Earlier in this run, a 1–1 draw at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina on 6th June, a 4–2 home win over the Dominican Republic on 4th June, and a 6–2 thrashing away in Brazil on 31st May complete a mixed preparation — one win, one draw, and three losses. Panama have shown moments of quality but have been unable to string together the kind of performance needed to trouble stronger opposition consistently.

England head into this game having already done the hard work. Their most recent outing was a goalless draw at home to Ghana on 23rd June — a disappointing result given they were expected to run through their opponents. Prior to that, they put in their best display of the tournament with a 4–2 home win over Croatia on 17th June — an emphatic and entertaining result. Earlier in this run, a 3–0 home win over Costa Rica on 10th June and a 1–0 home win over New Zealand on 6th June confirmed their pre-tournament quality in friendly action, while a 1–0 home defeat to Japan on 31st March was a useful reality check. Three wins, one draw and one defeat across five — England have been solid and will use this fixture to cement their place in the knockout stage.

In Group L, England lead on four points with a goal difference of +2. Ghana sit second on four points with a goal difference of +1. Croatia are third on three points with a goal difference of -1. Panama are fourth with no points and a goal difference of -2. England are virtually through; the race for second between Ghana and Croatia will be settled in the simultaneous fixture at Lincoln Financial Field.

The only previous meeting between these sides ended in a comprehensive England victory. England won 6–1 at home against Panama in a World Cup group stage fixture in June 2018 — a result that remains the only head-to-head data point between these nations.

In the UK, the match is live on ITV 1 and available to stream via ITVX and STV Player, with radio coverage on TalkSport Radio UK and BBC Radio 5 Live. In Panama, audiences can follow on RPCTV, N Panama, TVMax, Medcom GO, Tigo Sports Panama, and FOX Panama. US viewers can catch the action on FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Saturday evening at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia serves up a Group L decider with the knockout rounds on the line. Croatia sit third on three points and Ghana second on four — one point separates the two sides going into the final match. England lead the group on four points, while Panama are bottom with nothing. Croatia need a win to leapfrog Ghana and secure second place; Ghana know a draw is enough to go through as group runners-up. Both sides are in the mix, and the occasion demands a full-blooded performance from two competitive nations.

Croatia have had an inconsistent campaign but arrive here on the back of a positive result. Their most recent outing was a 1–0 win away against Panama on 24th June — a professional display that kept their qualification hopes alive going into this decider. Prior to that, they suffered a 4–2 defeat away to England on 17th June in a match that exposed their defensive vulnerabilities at set pieces and on the counter. Earlier in this run, a 2–1 home win over Slovenia on 7th June demonstrated their quality in possession, a 2–0 home defeat to Belgium on 2nd June was a setback, and a 3–1 defeat away in Brazil on 1st April showed the gulf in class against the very top sides. Two wins and three losses across five outings — Croatia are capable but need a clean performance here.

Ghana have shown substance and organisation throughout this group stage. Their most recent outing was a 0–0 draw away against England on 23rd June — a disciplined defensive performance against the group leaders that earned them a precious point. Prior to that, they beat Panama 1–0 at home on 18th June in a composed showing that confirmed their ability to control games. Earlier in this run, a 1–1 draw away in Wales on 2nd June, a 2–0 defeat away in Mexico on 23rd May, and a 2–1 defeat away in Germany on 30th March complete a sequence of one win, two draws and two losses. Ghana’s defensive structure has been a key asset — they have not conceded yet in the group stage — and Croatia will need to find a way past that.

In Group L, England lead on four points with a goal difference of +2. Ghana sit second on four points with a goal difference of +1. Croatia are third on three points with a goal difference of -1 — two points behind Ghana and one behind England. Panama are bottom with no points. Croatia must win here to reach four points; if they do, they go level with Ghana but ahead on goal difference, currently +1 to Croatia’s -1 — so Croatia need to win and improve their goal difference past Ghana’s. A draw sends Ghana through; a Croatia win of any margin most likely sends Croatia through ahead of Ghana on goal difference.

These two nations have never previously met — there is no head-to-head history between Croatia and Ghana.

In the UK, the match is live on ITV 4 and available to stream via ITVX, with radio coverage on Talksport 2 Radio UK and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. In Ghana, the game is broadcast across GTV, Metro TV, TV3 Ghana, and several other platforms. In Croatia, audiences can follow on HRT 2, MAXtv To Go, and HRTi. US viewers can catch the action on Fox Sports 1, fuboTV, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo, and UNIVERSO.

Ghana (4-3-3) Asare, Mensah, Opoku, Adjetey, Senaya, Sibo, Partey, Semenyo, Ayew, Williams, Yirenkyi

Both sides go into this fixture with full squads available, setting up a straight contest determined entirely by tactics and execution on the night.

Saturday morning’s Group G finale at BC Place in Vancouver brings together New Zealand and Belgium in a fixture that carries enormous consequences, particularly for the Red Devils. Belgium sit third on two points, level with Iran in second having drawn 0–0 in their meeting. New Zealand are fourth on one point with a goal difference of -2. With Egypt already likely secure at the top, the question is who claims second — and Belgium need a win here while hoping Iran do not beat Egypt in the simultaneous fixture in Seattle. For New Zealand, the tournament has been a tough experience, but a first win would be a fitting send-off.

New Zealand have competed without being able to translate effort into results. Their most recent outing was a 3–1 home defeat to Egypt on 22nd June — a match in which they made a bright start but ultimately conceded too often. Prior to that, they drew 2–2 away to Iran on 16th June in what was arguably their best performance of the tournament, taking a share of the spoils against a side who had looked threatening coming in. Earlier in this run, a 1–0 defeat away to England on 6th June and a heavy 4–0 loss away to Haiti on 3rd June showed the gulf in class against stronger opposition, while a 4–1 home win over Chile on 30th March in a friendly offered a more positive note. One win, one draw, and three defeats — New Zealand will want to end on a high but face a significant task against a Belgium side desperate for three points.

Belgium are in a peculiar position — talented on paper but unable to impose themselves in the group stage so far. Their most recent outing was a 0–0 draw at home to Iran on 21st June, a frustrating result given the attacking quality at their disposal. Prior to that, they drew 1–1 at home to Egypt on 15th June in another match where they failed to convert their chances into a win. Earlier in this run, a 5–0 home demolition of Tunisia on 6th June in a friendly showed their destructive capability, a 2–0 win away in Croatia on 2nd June was a composed away performance, and a 1–1 draw away in Mexico on 1st April rounds out a sequence of two wins, two draws and no defeats in five. Belgium have the quality — they simply need to rediscover the cutting edge that was so evident against Tunisia.

In Group G, Egypt lead on four points with a goal difference of +2. Iran sit second on two points with a goal difference of zero. Belgium are third on two points with a goal difference of zero — level with Iran. New Zealand are fourth on one point with a goal difference of -2. Belgium need to win and hope Egypt hold Iran; any other combination of results could still see them eliminated. New Zealand can only qualify if they beat Belgium and Iran lose.

These two sides have never previously met — there is no head-to-head history between New Zealand and Belgium on record.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC One and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. In Belgium, viewers can follow on La Une, VRT 1, and RTBF Auvio Direct. New Zealand audiences can catch the action on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+, while US viewers have access via FOX Network, fuboTV, Telemundo, and Telemundo Deportes En Vivo.

Saturday morning’s Group G decider at Lumen Field in Seattle pitches Egypt against Iran in a fixture that could scarcely matter more for both nations. Egypt lead the group on four points, while Iran sit second on two points — with Belgium also on two points and New Zealand on one. Egypt need only a draw to advance as group winners unless Belgium smash New Zealand by a multiple goal margin. Iran must win to guarantee progression and hope Belgium do not beat New Zealand by a margin that overtakes them. Every goal in both simultaneous matches will be crucial.

Egypt have been the standout side in Group G so far and go into this finale in confident mood. Their most recent outing was a composed 3–1 win away against New Zealand on 22nd June — a result that sent them top with a game to spare in terms of points accumulation. Prior to that, they drew 1–1 away in Belgium on 15th June, a disciplined defensive performance that secured a valuable point against a well-organised European side. Earlier in this run, a 2–1 defeat away in Brazil on 6th June in a pre-tournament friendly was their only blemish, while a 1–0 home win over Russia on 28th May and a 0–0 draw away in Spain on 31st March round out a sequence of two wins, two draws and one defeat. Egypt are well-drilled, hard to break down, and carry a genuine attacking threat through their key players. A draw here is all they require.

Iran arrive at this fixture with two draws from two and needing a win to take control of their own destiny. Their most recent outing was a 0–0 draw away in Belgium on 21st June — another tight, compact performance that kept them in contention but left them needing more in the final group game. Prior to that, they drew 2–2 at home with New Zealand on 16th June in a match they will feel they should have won. Earlier in this run, pre-tournament form was impressive — a 2–0 home win over Mali on 4th June, a 3–1 home win over Gambia on 29th May, and a stunning 5–0 win away in Costa Rica on 31st March complete a sequence of three wins and two draws from five outings. Iran have the quality to hurt Egypt, and with their tournament on the line they will come out with attacking intent.

In Group G, Egypt lead on four points with a goal difference of +2. Iran sit second on two points with a goal difference of zero. Belgium are third on two points with a goal difference of zero — level with Iran, having drawn 0–0 in their meeting. New Zealand are fourth on one point with a goal difference of -2. Egypt are in a commanding position — even a defeat here leaves them in contention depending on other results. Iran need to win; anything less and their fate depends on Belgium dropping points against New Zealand.

These two sides have never previously met — there is no head-to-head history between Egypt and Iran on record.

In the UK, the match is live on BBC Two and available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Web, with radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. In Egypt, viewers can follow on beIN SPORTS CONNECT and Time Sports. Iranian audiences can catch the action on IRIB Varzesh and beIN SPORTS CONNECT, while US viewers have access via Fox Sports 1, fuboTV, Telemundo Deportes En Vivo, and UNIVERSO.

Iran (5-4-1) Beiranvand, Safi, Nemati, Khalilzadeh, Ezatolahi, Mohebi, Ghoddos, Kanaani, Rezaeian, Hardani, Taremi

Egypt: No missing players listed.

Iran: No missing players listed.

Both squads are reported as fully available, meaning both coaches have their strongest options at their disposal for what is effectively a must-win fixture for Iran and a game Egypt can approach with the freedom of needing only a point.
