Monday evening at the Via Del Mare brings together two sides with very different but equally urgent motivations. Lecce are deep in a relegation battle, sitting 18th in Serie A and running out of opportunities to save their top-flight status. Fiorentina, meanwhile, are 15th on 35 points and will be able to focus fully on the league now that their Conference League campaign ended on Thursday. For Lecce, this is close to a must-win; for Fiorentina, the points are still important even if the margins are more comfortable.

Lecce have been in wretched form. Their most recent outing ended in a 2–0 away defeat at Bologna — another setback in a run that has seen them haemorrhage points at a critical stage of the season. Prior to that, they were beaten 3–0 at home by Atalanta, a result that underlined the gulf in quality between survival-threatened sides and those at the top of the table. Before that came a 1–0 away defeat at AS Roma. Earlier in this run, they lost 2–1 away at Napoli, another difficult assignment. The oldest result in the five is the one they will cling to — a 2–1 home win over Cremonese in early March, which represents their only positive return in this sequence. Four defeats from five is the form of a side in serious danger, and with six games remaining, Lecce cannot afford to keep dropping points at home.

Fiorentina arrive in considerably better shape. Their most recent outing produced a 2–1 home win over Crystal Palace in the Conference League knockout stage — a result that ended their European run despite winning. Prior to that, they were clinical at home in Serie A, beating Lazio 1–0. Before that came the setback in the Conference League first leg — a 3–0 away defeat at Crystal Palace. Earlier in this run, they recorded a composed 1–0 away win at Hellas Verona in the league, and the oldest result in the five was a 1–1 home draw with Internazionale. Three wins from five across two competitions represents a side with momentum and a squad capable of operating on multiple fronts.

In the table, Lecce are 18th on 27 points from 32 games — level with Cremonese in 17th but separated by goal difference, with Lecce’s –24 inferior to Cremonese’s –21. A Lecce win tonight would take them to 30 points and move them above Cremonese into 17th, out of the automatic relegation places. Fiorentina are 15th on 35 points; a win would bring them to 38 and lift them above Parma into 14th.

The head-to-head record is level, with both sides having won two of the last five meetings and one match drawn. Most recently, Lecce won 1–0 away at Fiorentina in November 2025. In the previous encounter, Fiorentina won 1–0 at home to Lecce in February 2025.

Home advantage and desperation may give Lecce a lift, but their form is deeply concerning and Fiorentina are the in-form side coming into this game. A compact and motivated Lecce performance at the Via Del Mare could make this uncomfortable for the visitors — but the quality gap between the two sides across the season is significant.

Monday night football at Selhurst Park brings a clash with very different objectives on either side. Crystal Palace sit 13th with a game in hand over most sides around them, still carrying genuine ambitions of a top-half finish and with a Conference League campaign also occupying their schedule. West Ham are 17th — two points above the relegation zone — and in the kind of form that will do little to reassure their supporters. This is a fixture that matters considerably more to the visitors.

Crystal Palace arrive off a mixed but ultimately encouraging spell. Their most recent outing ended in a 2–1 away defeat to Fiorentina in the Conference League knockout stage — a result that keeps their European tie alive but represents a setback nonetheless. Prior to that, they were excellent at home, beating Newcastle United 2–1 in a competitive Premier League fixture. Before that, they produced a dominant 3–0 home win over Fiorentina in the first leg of that same European tie, which gave them a platform they have since partially relinquished. Earlier in this run, they claimed an impressive 2–1 away win at AEK Larnaca in the Conference League, and the oldest result in the five was a goalless draw at home to Leeds United. Three wins from five across two competitions reflects a side playing consistently enough, even if the most recent result stings.

West Ham’s recent sequence is harder to read. Their most recent outing was emphatic — a 4–0 home thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers, a result that offered real encouragement for a side desperately in need of points. Prior to that, they were knocked out of the FA Cup after drawing 2–2 at home to Leeds United and losing on penalties. Before that came a 2–0 away defeat at Aston Villa in the Premier League, a result that typified the inconsistency that has plagued their season. Earlier in this run, they drew 1–1 at home to Manchester City — a creditable point — and the oldest result in the five was an FA Cup win over Brentford on penalties. Two wins from five does not tell the full story; the nature and timing of those wins and losses matters greatly when you are looking over your shoulder at the bottom three.

In the table, Crystal Palace are 13th on 42 points from 31 games. A win tonight would take them to 45 points from 32 — level with Bournemouth in 11th on goal difference, and comfortably clear of any danger. West Ham are 17th on 32 points from 32 games, two points above Tottenham in 18th. A win here would take them to 35 points and open a five-point gap to the relegation zone — a meaningful cushion with six games remaining. A defeat, however, would leave them dangerously exposed with very little margin for error.

The head-to-head record strongly favours Crystal Palace, who have won four of the last five meetings, with one win for West Ham and no draws. Most recently, Crystal Palace won 2–1 away at West Ham in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Crystal Palace again won away at West Ham, 2–0, in January 2025.

The pattern of these two sides meeting clearly leans one way, and the broader context — Palace at home, West Ham in poor form and under pressure — does little to suggest an upset. That said, West Ham’s display against Wolves shows there is a performance in them when they need it most.

Sunday afternoon at the Allianz Arena pits the runaway Bundesliga leaders against a Stuttgart side still harbouring ambitions of finishing in the top four. Bayern are in imperious form and closing in on the title; Stuttgart arrive knowing a win would do nothing to dent Bayern’s lead but everything for their own European positioning. On paper this looks one-sided, but Stuttgart have shown enough this season to suggest they will not simply roll over.

Bayern have been in relentless form. Their most recent outing produced one of the performances of the season — a 4–3 home victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout stage, a result that announced their European credentials to the continent. Prior to that, they were ruthlessly efficient away at St. Pauli, winning 5–0 in a statement Bundesliga performance. Before that came a 2–1 away win at Real Madrid in the first leg of that same Champions League tie. Earlier in this run, they claimed a 3–2 away win at SC Freiburg, and the oldest result in the five was a comfortable 4–0 home win over 1. FC Union Berlin. Five wins from five is the form of champions — which is precisely what Bayern are on course to be.

Stuttgart’s recent run is more mixed. Their most recent outing was a convincing 4–0 home win over Hamburg SV, an ideal confidence-booster ahead of this trip. Prior to that, they were beaten 2–0 at home by Borussia Dortmund — a reminder of the gap that still exists between Stuttgart and the genuine title contenders. Before that, they produced one of their best away performances, thrashing FC Augsburg 5–2 on the road. Earlier in this run, they were beaten 2–0 away at FC Porto in the Europa League knockout stage. The oldest result in the five was a 1–0 home win over RB Leipzig. Three wins from five is decent, and Stuttgart’s ability to put goals on the board makes them a threat even against elite opposition.

In the table, Bayern sit first on 76 points from 29 games — an extraordinary return. Stuttgart are third on 56 points, level with RB Leipzig in fourth but separated by goal difference. The gap between the sides is 20 points, making the title picture irrelevant to Stuttgart’s visit. What matters for them is consolidating third place and keeping Leipzig at arm’s length. A win here would be a significant statement; even a draw away at Bayern would be a creditable result given the hosts’ form.

The head-to-head record heavily favours Bayern, who have won four of the last five meetings, with one win for Stuttgart and no draws. Most recently, Stuttgart lost 0–5 at home to Bayern in December 2025. In the previous encounter, Stuttgart again lost at home, 1–2, in the German Supercup in August 2025.

Bayern are the dominant force in this fixture and in this division. Stuttgart’s best chance lies in making the game scrappy and exploiting the spaces that tend to open up when Bayern press high — but a side conceding just 27 league goals all season suggests that will be easier said than done.

Sunday evening at the Etihad Stadium delivers the title clash the Premier League has been building towards. Arsenal arrive as leaders on 70 points; Manchester City sit second on 64, with a game in hand. Six points separate them. A City win closes the gap to three and hands them enormous momentum with matches running out. An Arsenal victory would put daylight of nine points between the sides and hand the Gunners a commanding grip on the title. The stakes could hardly be higher.

City head into this fixture in excellent Premier League form. Their most recent outing produced a 3–0 away win at Chelsea — a result that underlined their capacity to turn on the style when it matters. Prior to that, they were dominant at home, hammering Liverpool 4–0 in the FA Cup. Before that came a 2–0 away win at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup — a result directly relevant to Sunday’s opponents and one that will give the Etihad faithful considerable confidence. Earlier in this run came a 1–2 home defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout stage, and the oldest result in the five was a 1–1 draw away at West Ham. Three wins from their last three is the kind of momentum you want heading into a title six-pointer.

Arsenal’s recent form, by contrast, has been patchy. Their most recent outing ended in a 0–0 home draw with Sporting CP in the Champions League knockout stage — a frustrating result that leaves their European campaign finely poised. Prior to that, they suffered a 1–2 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, a result that handed City an opportunity to close the gap. Before that, they produced their best result of the recent run — a 1–0 away win at Sporting CP. Earlier in this sequence, they were beaten 2–1 away at Southampton in the FA Cup, and the oldest result in the five was the 0–2 home defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup. One win from five is a concerning run for a side trying to hold off a title challenge, and Sunday represents a chance to either steady the ship or have it capsized.

Arsenal currently lead on 70 points from 32 games. City have 64 from 31. A City win would take them to 67 from 32 — three points behind Arsenal. An Arsenal win would open a nine-point gap with six games remaining, which would be virtually insurmountable. A draw keeps the gap at six, with City still holding a game in hand.

The head-to-head record is evenly split, with both sides claiming one win in the last five meetings, and three draws. Most recently, Manchester City won 2–0 at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in March 2026. In the previous encounter, the sides drew 1–1 at Arsenal in the Premier League in September 2025.

Arsenal head to Manchester City already carrying significant injury concerns and will be sweating on the fitness of several key figures, including Bukayo Saka, Jurriën Timber, Martin Ødegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Noni Madueke — all listed as doubtful. Mikel Merino is ruled out entirely. City are not unscathed either, with Josko Gvardiol out and Rúben Dias, John Stones and Nico O’Reilly all doubtful. However, Arsenal’s injury list spans more positions and more influential players, which is a significant concern ahead of the biggest game of the season.

Manchester City (4-2-3-1)

Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Silva, O’Reilly, Guehi, Rodri, Semenyo, Cherki, Doku, Haaland

Arsenal (4-2-3-1)

Raya, Hincapié, Magalhães, Saliba, Timber, Zubimendi, Rice, Martinelli, Eze, Saka, Gyökeres

Manchester City: Josko Gvardiol (Out), Nico O’Reilly (Doubtful), Rúben Dias (Doubtful), John Stones (Doubtful)

Arsenal: Mikel Merino (Out), Jurriën Timber (Doubtful), Bukayo Saka (Doubtful), Martin Ødegaard (Doubtful), Riccardo Calafiori (Doubtful), Noni Madueke (Doubtful)

Arsenal are significantly worse affected, with doubts across their midfield engine room, right flank and defensive options. City lose their first-choice left-back in Gvardiol but their injury list is considerably more manageable.

The Merseyside derby returns on Sunday afternoon, and for once the form guide does not paint Liverpool as the runaway favourites. Everton head into this fixture in decent shape, while their city rivals arrive having endured a difficult few weeks across two competitions. At Hill Dickinson Stadium, the stakes are high — Everton are pushing for European places, and Liverpool cannot afford to let the top four drift further away.

Everton have been solid, if not entirely consistent, across their last five. Their most recent outing ended in a 2–2 draw away at Brentford — a fair result in a game they arguably could have won. Prior to that came one of their better performances of the season, a 3–0 home dismantling of Chelsea. Before that, they were beaten 2–0 away at Arsenal, one of the tougher assignments in the division. Earlier in this run, they recorded a 2–0 home win over Burnley, and the oldest result in the sequence was an impressive 3–2 away victory at Newcastle United. Three wins from five, with only one defeat, represents the kind of consistency that has seen them climb to eighth in the table, and they come into this derby with a legitimate sense of confidence.

Liverpool’s recent form tells a starkly different story. Their most recent outing ended in a 0–2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League knockout stage — a result that piles pressure on their European ambitions. Prior to that, they were comfortable 2–0 winners at home over Fulham in the Premier League, which at the time looked like a return to form. Before that, they were beaten 2–0 away at Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg. Earlier in this run, they were thumped 4–0 away at Manchester City in the FA Cup, and the oldest result in the five was a 2–1 defeat away at Brighton. One win from five is a deeply concerning return for a side expected to be challenging for the title.

In the table, Everton sit eighth on 47 points, level on points with Brentford in seventh but separated by goal difference. Liverpool are fifth on 52 points — five points ahead of the Toffees. A win for Everton would bring them to 50 points and close the gap to two, while a Liverpool victory would push them to 55 and put them within touching distance of fourth-placed Aston Villa. There is genuine jeopardy in this game for both sides from different angles.

The head-to-head record favours Liverpool, who have won three of the last five meetings, with one draw and one win for Everton. Most recently, Liverpool won 2–1 at home in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Liverpool again won at home, 1–0, in April 2025.

Derby form, however, rarely follows the form book. Everton’s improved performances at Hill Dickinson Stadium this season, combined with Liverpool’s present vulnerability, makes this a far more competitive contest than the head-to-head numbers might suggest. Expect a tight, combative affair.

Saturday evening in Seville brings one of the most prestigious fixtures in Spanish football — the Copa del Rey final. Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad meet at the neutral Estadio La Cartuja, with both sides harbouring cup glory as a primary objective, but arriving off markedly different runs of form.

Atlético have endured a strange few weeks. Their most recent outing ended in a 1–2 home defeat to Barcelona — a result that underlined the problems they have faced in recent weeks however they did progress on aggregate which is a giant accomplishment. Prior to that, they were beaten 2–1 away at Sevilla in a poor La Liga performance. Before that came the one bright spot in this sequence: a commanding 2–0 away win at Barcelona in the Champions League knockout stage, a result that showed their capacity to perform on the biggest occasions. Earlier in this run, they lost 1–2 at home to Barcelona again in La Liga, and the oldest result in the five was a 3–2 defeat away at Real Madrid. One win in five is not the form you would choose heading into a cup final, but Atlético have a history of raising their level for major knockout occasions, and a single victory over Barcelona in the Champions League shows there is quality in this squad.

Real Sociedad head to Seville in steadier domestic shape, though not without their own inconsistencies. Their most recent outing ended 3–3 at home to Alavés — a draw that will have been frustrating given they were likely chasing a win. Prior to that, they were comfortable 2–0 winners at home over Levante. Before that, they were beaten 3–1 away at Villarreal. Earlier in this run, they claimed a solid 3–1 home win over Osasuna, and the oldest result in the sequence was a 3–2 defeat away at Atlético Madrid in La Liga — a relevant note given today’s opponents. Two wins and a draw from five is modest, but Sociedad’s cup journey to this point has been built on resilience and organisation.

The head-to-head record favours Atlético, who have won three of the last five meetings, with two draws and no wins for Real Sociedad. Most recently, Atlético won 3–2 at home in La Liga in March 2026. In the previous encounter, Real Sociedad drew 1–1 at home with Atlético in January 2026.

This is a neutral-ground showpiece, which strips away home advantage and places the burden of decision on the day itself. Atlético’s experience of high-pressure cup football and their capacity to grind out results in tight matches makes them the logical favourites, but Sociedad’s attacking quality and organisational discipline means this is far from a foregone conclusion. A tense, low-scoring final is the most likely scenario.

Saturday night at Stamford Bridge delivers one of English football’s most storied fixtures, but neither side arrives in the kind of form that justifies much optimism. Chelsea have been poor in recent weeks and are bleeding Premier League momentum at a point in the season where every game has real consequence. Manchester United are inconsistent at best, yet still within range of the European places and unable to afford a slip-up against a struggling rival.

Chelsea’s recent run has been deeply disappointing for a club with top-six ambitions. Their most recent outing ended in a 3–0 home defeat to Manchester City — a result that underlined the gap between their ceiling and the division’s best. Prior to that, they served up one of the more comfortable victories of their campaign, beating Port Vale 7–0 at home in the FA Cup — but the calibre of opponent makes that hard to read across into league context. Before that, they were beaten 3–0 away at Everton, a sobering result against a mid-table side. Earlier in this run, they suffered a 3–0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League knockout stage, and the oldest result in the sequence was a 1–0 home loss to Newcastle United. One win from five, with four defeats — three of them conceding three goals — is alarming form for a side in sixth place, and tonight represents an opportunity to arrest the slide or deepen the crisis.

Manchester United are similarly inconsistent but arrive in slightly less fraught circumstances. Their most recent outing ended in a 1–2 home defeat to Leeds United — a result that will have hurt given the rivalry and the league position. Prior to that, they drew 2–2 away at AFC Bournemouth, a point that felt more like two dropped than one gained. Before that came their best result in the five — a 3–1 home win over Aston Villa, a performance that showed their quality when things click. Earlier in this run, they were beaten 2–1 away at Newcastle United, and the oldest result in the five was a 2–1 home win over Crystal Palace. Two wins from five is not championship form, but it is better than what Chelsea have managed.

In the table, Chelsea are sixth on 48 points from 32 games. Manchester United are third on 55 points — seven points above Chelsea. A Man United win would extend that gap to ten points and further confirm their grip on third; a Chelsea win would cut it to four and reignite a top-four battle. A draw changes little for either side.

The head-to-head record is evenly balanced, with both sides having won two of the last five meetings and one draw. Most recently, Manchester United won 2–1 at home to Chelsea in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Chelsea won 1–0 at home to Manchester United in May 2025.

Both squads carry injury concerns. Chelsea are without Jamie Gittens and Mykhailo Mudryk, and have doubts over Trevoh Chalobah, Filip Jörgensen and Benoît Badiashile. Manchester United are hit harder at the back, with Patrick Dorgu, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martínez all out — essentially their entire senior centre-back options — and Kobbie Mainoo listed as doubtful. A makeshift United defensive unit could be the deciding factor in what may be an open and scrappy contest.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Sánchez, Cucurella, Fofana, Hato, Gusto, Caicedo, Santos, Neto, Palmer, Pedro, Estêvão

Manchester United (4-2-3-1)

Lammens, Shaw, Mainoo, Yoro, Dalot, Casemiro, Heaven, Mbeumo, Fernandes, Diallo, Cunha

Chelsea: Jamie Gittens (Out), Mykhailo Mudryk (Out), Trevoh Chalobah (Doubtful), Filip Jörgensen (Doubtful), Benoît Badiashile (Doubtful)

Manchester United: Patrick Dorgu (Out), Matthijs de Ligt (Out), Harry Maguire (Out), Lisandro Martínez (Out), Kobbie Mainoo (Doubtful)

Manchester United are significantly worse affected defensively, with their entire senior centre-back depth wiped out. Chelsea’s absences are more spread but less critical to their structure; United’s backline problem could leave them exposed against Chelsea’s attacking options.

Saturday’s late kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could scarcely pit two sides in more different circumstances. Spurs are 18th, deep in the relegation zone, haemorrhaging games and running out of time to save their top-flight status. Brighton arrive in north London in ninth place, having put together one of the more convincing stretches of form in the division over the past several weeks.

The hosts have been in a dire run. Their most recent outing ended in a 1–0 defeat away at Sunderland — not a result that inspires confidence for a side already fighting for survival. Prior to that, they were hammered 3–0 at home by Nottingham Forest in what was another dismal evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Before that came one of the few genuine highlights of their recent calendar: a 3–2 home victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League knockout stage. Earlier in this run, they drew 1–1 at Liverpool, a point that felt like progress at the time but now looks insufficient. The oldest result in this sequence was a 5–2 pounding away at Atlético Madrid — a night that illustrated just how much Spurs have struggled to keep clean sheets and impose themselves on opponents. One win in five, and both Premier League matches in that run ending in defeat, tells the story of a side in trouble.

Brighton’s recent form is in stark contrast. Their most recent outing brought a comfortable 2–0 away win at Burnley. Prior to that, they downed Liverpool 2–1 at home, a significant scalp. Before that, they claimed a 1–0 victory away at Sunderland with minimal fuss. Earlier in this sequence, they suffered their only blip — a 1–0 home defeat to Arsenal — but bookended it with a 2–1 home win over Nottingham Forest as the oldest result in the five. Four wins from five represents strong, consistent Premier League form, and Brighton will arrive with confidence.

In the table, Tottenham sit 18th with 30 points from 32 games — two points below West Ham in 17th. A win here would bring them to 33 points, above West Ham, and reignite what has become a desperate relegation battle. Brighton are 9th on 46 points with a goal difference of +6, comfortably clear of any danger and looking up rather than down.

The head-to-head record favours Brighton, who have won three of the last five meetings, with one draw and one win for Tottenham. Most recently, the sides drew 2–2 at Brighton in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Tottenham lost 4–1 at home to Brighton in May 2025.

Spurs head into this one severely undermanned. Seven players are sidelined, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, centre-back Cristian Romero, left-back Ben Davies and attacking options Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison. It is a crippling list of absentees that weakens virtually every department. Brighton are without Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas — the loss of Dunk as defensive leader is significant — but their injury situation is considerably less damaging than their hosts’.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Stefanos Tzimas (Out), Adam Webster (Out), Lewis Dunk (Out)

Tottenham are by far the worse affected side, with absentees spanning goalkeeper, both centre-back slots, a first-choice full-back and multiple attacking contributors. Brighton lose two defenders and a forward, which is manageable in comparison — their squad depth allows them to absorb those losses far more comfortably.

Internazionale host Cagliari at San Siro on Friday evening in a Serie A fixture that could not be more different in terms of what is at stake for each side. The Nerazzurri sit nine points clear at the top of the table on 75 points, with the title increasingly within their grasp. Cagliari arrive in 15th place on 33 points — six above the relegation zone — and in desperate need of points to secure their top-flight status with six games remaining.

Inter head into this game in encouraging form, albeit with a couple of dropped points in recent weeks. Their most recent outing was a stunning 4-3 win away at Como in the league — a high-scoring, drama-filled result that underlined their attacking quality even in less structured games. Prior to that, a commanding 5-2 home win over AS Roma was as convincing as it gets. Before that, a 1-1 draw away at Fiorentina, and earlier in this run, a 1-1 home draw with Atalanta. The only defeat in the run was a 1-0 loss away at AC Milan in the derby — the sole blemish in an otherwise dominant campaign. Two wins, two draws, and one defeat is the form of a title-winning side managing its resources across a long season.

Cagliari’s form is alarming. Their most recent outing was a 1-0 home win over Cremonese — one of only two sides below them in the table — which provided a vital but slender boost. Prior to that, a 2-1 defeat away at Sassuolo, and before that, a 1-0 home loss to Napoli. Earlier in this run, a 3-1 defeat away at Pisa and a 2-1 home loss to Como. One win from five, with four defeats — the Isolani are firmly in survival territory and cannot afford to be passive on Friday night, despite the scale of the task facing them at San Siro.

The gulf in quality between these sides is significant, but Cagliari will take some encouragement from the fact that Inter have shown they can be opened up — five different sides have scored at least twice against them this season. The challenge is that Inter also score freely at San Siro, and Cagliari’s defensive record of 44 goals conceded in 32 games is one of the worst in the division. If Inter find their rhythm early, this could become a difficult evening for the visitors in a hurry.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings heavily favours Inter, who have won four, with one draw and no victories for Cagliari. Most recently, Cagliari lost 2-0 at home to Inter in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Inter won 3-1 at home against Cagliari in April 2025.

Inter are simply a different class to Cagliari at this stage of the season, and with the title in their sights, they will be motivated to maintain their points tally and goal difference. Fans will expect a comfortable home win is the most likely outcome on Friday evening however teams struggling sometimes produce magical results when the chips are down.

St. Pauli host FC Cologne at the Millerntor-Stadion on Friday evening in a Bundesliga fixture that carries significant weight at the wrong end of the table. The hosts are staring down the relegation playoff spot in 16th with 25 points — three behind 15th-placed Werder Bremen — and need wins urgently if they are to drag themselves out of trouble. Cologne arrive in 13th on 30 points, five above St. Pauli, and while their own position is more comfortable, three points here would put useful distance between themselves and the danger zone with the season entering its final stretch.

St. Pauli’s form makes for grim reading. Their most recent outing was a 5-0 home thrashing by Bayern Munich — a result that, while coming against the runaway league leaders, will have done little for confidence or goal difference. Prior to that, a 1-1 draw away at Union Berlin, a respectable point on the road. Before that, a 2-1 home defeat to SC Freiburg, and earlier in this run, a 2-0 loss away at Borussia Mönchengladbach. A 0-0 home draw with Eintracht Frankfurt rounds out five games without a win. Three defeats and two draws — the Kiezkicker are running out of time and running out of runway, and a home fixture against a side also in the lower half represents one of their clearest chances to take three points from what remains of the season.

FC Cologne’s form is inconsistent but contains more to work with. Their most recent outing was a 3-1 home win over Werder Bremen — a result that provided real momentum going into this trip. Prior to that, a 2-2 draw away at Eintracht Frankfurt, and before that, a 3-3 home draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Earlier in this run, a 1-1 draw away at Hamburg and a 2-1 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund. One win and three draws from five with a single defeat — Cologne are not setting the world alight, but they are grinding out points and showed genuine attacking intent in that win over Werder at the weekend.

The context makes this a high-stakes game for St. Pauli in particular. Sitting just above the relegation zone with nine games to play, every home game has become a must-win scenario. The Millerntor crowd will be vociferous and will push the hosts to impose themselves early, but the underlying numbers — worst goals-against record in the division with 50 conceded, and a goal difference of -25 — paint a picture of a side that has been outclassed too often this campaign. Cologne, with 40 goals scored and a goal difference of -9, are a more balanced unit. A win here would move them provisionally to 33 points and into the upper half of the bottom section, while doing more damage to St. Pauli’s survival hopes.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings strongly favours FC Cologne, who have won four, with one draw and no victories for St. Pauli. Most recently, FC Cologne drew 1-1 at home against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga in December 2025. In the previous encounter, FC Cologne won 4-1 at home against St. Pauli in February 2019.

St. Pauli need this more urgently, but Cologne have the better form, the better squad depth, and a dominant historical record in this fixture. A tightly contested game looks likely on Friday night.
