The Hearing Access Program today announced that the Taxi &amp; Limousine Commission will include an induction/hearing loop in all Taxis of Tomorrow beginning in 2013.

The announcement follows a pilot program where 13 taxis tested the technology. This technology has been used in London Taxis since 1998. New York City will be the first city in this country to have taxis outfitted with induction/hearing loops for people who are hard of hearing.

"No longer will a person who is hard of hearing have to worry that they will end up in NOHO when they wanted SOHO," said Janice Schacter, the founder and chair of the Hearing Access Program."

Thursday, March 22 from 4:00-8:00pm at Elstad Auditorium. This screening of the film DEAF JAM will be followed by a panel discussion that includes performer Aneta Brodski and filmmaker Judy Lieff.

DEAF JAM is the story of deaf teen Aneta Brodski's bold journey into the spoken word slam scene. In a wondrous twist, Aneta, an Israeli immigrant living in the Queens section of New York City, eventually meets Tahani, a hearing Palestinian slam poet. The two women embark on a collaboration/performance duet. Poetry, friendship, and respect transcend politics as the two young women create a new form of slam poetry. DEAF JAM had it's U.S. broadcast premiere on the Emmy® Award-winning PBS series "Independent Lens" in November, 2011. Click here to visit the DEAF JAM website.</summary>

Ken Harrenstien's colleagues at Google call him the "Caption Jedi." Totally deaf since the age of 5, the Senior Software Engineer has arguably done as much for online video captioning as anyone else in the world. As the lead developer responsible for the captioning technology in all of Google's video services including YouTube, his work serves billions of views daily with captions for millions of videos.
Yesterday, YouTube posted a blog about the most recent improvements to that technology: adding Japanese and Korean to automatic captioning capabilities, enabling search for the cc content in videos, offering&nbsp;TV-style captioning options and adding more format compatibilities for uploading captions.
