After getting home from our cross the boarder trip I was back on the road in the next few days, down to Allentown, PA. Home of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and the AAA All-Star game. Originally I was planning on going so I could make some photos of a good friend from Little League, but he didn’t make it this year. So I had free reign to make any shot I wanted and I feel I made some pretty good shots. Here are some selects from the evening.

It was a great game to be at, more photos after the break…

While at the game I really wanted to catch the fan based event as this really is for the fans to see the best of the best in the AAA. Let alone the ones that have the best chance of making it to the show! So I made a lot of shots during the pre-game as the fans were all lined up to get autographs and speak with the players. I just love how some of the kids did what they needed to do to get an autograph!

This week was an interesting one. Lots of traveling but a whole lot of fun. I made the trip up to Toronto with my wife to have a little mini working vacation. We had the city of Toronto planned as well as a few stops on the way home, Niagara Falls as well as Cooperstown. It was a great trip, but the one of the main reasons we went up was to cover the Red Sox play the Blue Jays as Southcreek has had trouble getting me into Fenway Park as its a small park with limited areas for photographers. Let alone they are a major market and have a major media following. I am going to bide my time to get into Fenway, just hope I can get there before the 2012 season as Fenway will be turning 100 that year and I would love to be covering the events of Opening Day as well as the rest of the year!!!

I covered all three games for the series and what a series it was. Game one a blow out, game two was a game of hit by pitches and ejections, and game three was a pitchers game.

On to the photos as they will show how much fun I had!!

There was a great light late in the game on Friday, I was lucky enough to be on the right side to catch it. The sun broke through and put some pretty nice light on the CN Tower!!

Of course I wasn’t just there for the sights, made some nice action shots as well!

We had an ejection in this game. Casey Janssen argued about a call late in the game, which was in favor of the Red Sox. As you can see here he lost the argument.

Game two had a different feel as it was a day game and it was pretty hot. But it still led to some nice photos here are a few.

Game three was an interesting one as the dome had a malfunction and made for an interesting photo opportunity. I didn’t know it at the time otherwise I would have shot a few images of the dome not being fully open. Most of the photographers thought the Jays did it to keep the fans cool. Guess we were wrong! Anyways led to some nice images as the pitching mound to behind home plate was even light therefore not to much shadow under the ball caps!!

Just got this item in a few weeks ago. We are planning a good long hike in the mountains beginning of August and I was looking for a way to keep my iPhone charged for the whole hike as I will be tracking it using one of the iPhone apps I have. Last fall I tried to GPS track our hike up Mt. Pierce and the phone died halfway through. First I was looking at some different solar charges on the market, but I was turned off after seeing that in order for the backup battery/charging battery to be fully charged it needed 15 hours of sunlight. Not really what I was looking for in a charger or backup to keep my iPhone going. Ended up looking for a long term solution that will help not only while hiking but flying for long periods of time or in places where I am unable to plug in to charge.

The HyperMac Mini comes in a wide variety of colors, I selected the green one, but there are Black, White, GunMetal, Purple, Blue, Green, Gold, Orange, Red, and Pink

I ended up coming across this the HyperMac Mini. It is a 7200mAh Lithium Ion external battery in a pretty compact case. As you can see from the photos its not much bigger than an external hard drive or my iPhone. Also since it has a USB out I can not only charge my iPhone but any phone or item that can charge by a mini USB cable which is supplied as well.
According to the company Sanho/www.HyperMac.com it comes with some impressive stats.

Standby Time: 1800hrs
Talk Time: Up to 72 hours on 2G; Up to 30 hours on 3G
Internet Use: Up to 30 hours on 3G; Up to 54 hours on Wi-Fi
Audio Playback: Up to 180 hours
Video Playback: Up to 60 hours
Weight 8.4 ounces

One side has all of the ports needed. It comes with a USB Out port marked 5V DC Out, DC In for the AC charger, and a mini-USB in for charging with a computer or USB cable Also there is a Ch. Lo LED which is different colors depending on the charge and when charging. Green when fully charged, and red when charging, when charging your iPhone or other USB powered items it is Blue and will change colors till it gets to red when needing to charge.

Granted these are based on Apples standard specs and extrapolated by taking the internal iPhone battery and getting the ration on the size of the 7200mAh battery in this unit.

After a few weeks of testing I am thoroughly impressed with it. When it came in I put it on the supplied AC charger and it was ready in a few hours. Plugged it into my phone on at 6:30pm and left it on until the phone said it was on its own battery supply 3 days later around 7:00pm. I pretty much was doing my normal usage, phone calls most of the day some web browsing on 3G and WiFi, as well as some gaming.

Here is the HyperMac Mini size compared to the iPhone 4. As you can see its a little bit larger, but still pretty compact.

Put it back on the AC charger and it charged fully in 10 hours or so.

Here is the HyperMac Mini size compared to the iPhone 4. As you can see its a little bit larger, but still pretty compact.

All in all I am very happy with the unit. I will be doing an update in a month or so after I do some more testing, considering it will go camping a few times and I will see what happens when the iPhone starts to search for signal as I am in very low signal to no signal areas, which is known to drain the battery. Also this test was with the iPhone 3G, now with the iPhone 4 and its other functions such as compass, gyroscope, etc I will see if there is a different drain on the HyperMac Mini. Also my plan is to see how long it takes to charge from 20% left and how many times it will do so.

Also soon to come a review on the iPhone 4 and a few cases if they come out soon!! Want to make sure I get a good few months with the phone before an extensive review.

Once again I was back at Lime Rock Park for another weekend of racing. This time around the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East series and the Whelen Modifieds were in town. The K&N Series is a staple of Lime Rock whereas the Whelen Modifieds where running the 1.5 mile road course for the first time. We got there early afternoon on Friday during practice and ended up covering the qualifying heats. Not much action there, so I worked at getting some stock shots of individual cars. Worked out well as I also worked on my panning technique. Really hoping by the end of the year I can get to the sub 1/100th level comfortably. A few times I shot at 1/100th but it was a little blurry for my taste. Felt around 1/160th was going to work best for me and it did.

As you can see this is probably my best image around 1/100th, later on the light got pretty nice as well and I made this shot in the same location. Love it when the sun drops low enough to cast some nice shadows.

The modified race was more eventful for me than the K&N series, but I still made a few decent images. I really with the races started a little later in the day as the sun is a little harsh around noon time to 3 pm. If the races could start around 5pm and lead into around 8pm it would be great, or early in the morning but I know that probably wouldn’t work either. Unfortunately I am guessing there is a noise curfew of 6pm as Lime Rock is required to stop at that time. Anyways onto the K&N Series photos.

This week is always a great week for me, it is pretty much where I got my first taste of a pro sports events. This week I will always pencil in to cover the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands. I have enjoyed it the last 2 years I have covered it and once again did as well. It was a very hectic week as we had coverage of the opening ceremonies, the monday Aetna Pro-Am, the wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am, as well as the action throughout the tournament. As an added bonus I was contacted by Southcreek to cover the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Loudon NH as Danica Patrick was in town to try her luck once again in a stock car. So not only was I busy shooting golf I was also traveling all over New England. Luckily my car was up to the task.

Here are some shots from the whole weeks events.

June is the end of an era for some students. Many high school seniors are graduating at this time of year, and I have captured a few ceremonies. I have witnessed the quick and slow ones, a little over an hour and some almost 3 hours. Some great speakers and speeches as well as some not so great. This one at RHAM High School in CT was a great one. Nice and quick around 1.5 hours and had some great speeches. Here are a few images from the event.

Was moving around behind the grads and saw this view and just had to make a photo of it. The American flag and the mortar board with the “Can you dig” just worked for me!!

Some schools allow some fun, here the kids as well as the teachers sprayed silly string all around. It made a huge mess, luckily it didn’t get on my new lens the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. Long story on that one, better for another time, but lets just say you can’t always trust your belt packs when holding your gear. At least make sure that you double check to make sure things are secure….

The week started off with some great racing down at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville CT. I had a great time covering the Grand Am series for the first time let alone being at Lime Rock for the first time as well. The 1.5 mile track was hosting the Continental Tire Series as well as the Rolex Sports Car Series. The Continental ran on Saturday and the Rolex on Monday. The images in this post are from Monday’s race in which the Daytona Prototypes (DP) raced at Lime Rock for the first time ever. It was a pretty eventful race, considering on the first lap, well actually right after turn number 2 the big bend a DP car went off the track and its nose exploded from hitting the dirt. On to the photos!!

I worked a good bit on my panning technique as the races lasted 2.5 hours, I feel I did alright but could definitely use some more work as I have seen much slower shutter speeds.

It was a very busy week for me, had 3 proms, some corporate/commercial work and a few major sporting events. With prom season wrapping up I have a few images from this weeks proms as well as a few images from the US Men’s National Soccer team vs the Czech Republic at Rentschler Field in Hartford, CT. Southcreek had 2 photographers at the game so I took a different approach as I wanted to make some shots that most don’t. Here are a few from the game.I had access to a Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 lens and took full advantage of it when I could.
