Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world. One of the ways that we pursue this mission is by gathering each Sunday for corporate worship, prayer, and biblical teaching. Now we hear that we are made holy by walking in the Spirt who we have also received by faith. The grace that sent Christ to the cross to save us from our sins is the grace that sent the Holy Spirit into our hearts to make us holy like Christ. Let’s respond to this grace by faith and keep in step with the Spirit.

Paul continues to defend the gospel of justification by faith in Christ alone by listing the many benefits that believers receive in Jesus. God sent Jesus at just the right time to accomplish the redemption and adoption of His people. God sends his Holy Spirit into our hearts to confirm our relationship to the Father. With all these blessings available to us, why would we turn back to legalistic religious performance to win God’s favor?

This means to embrace the gospel as truth, believe in it for salvation, and live the new life that flows from its impact on the heart. In this passage, Paul remains in step with the gospel by defending it, even when doing so meant confrontation and conflict. Peter, on the other hand, had to be corrected because his conduct was not in step with the gospel. The exhortation for us is to know the gospel, let it change us at the heart level, and then walk consistent with its truth.

Confidence that the gospel is true, trust in the finished work of Christ, assurance of our salvation, awakening in love and gratitude to God, and new energy to live for his glory.

Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world.

The opening of Paul’s letter to the Galatians gets right to the point. Paul is upset that some people are adding human works and merit to the gospel of God’s grace and justification by faith. He is concerned that this “different gospel”— which is no gospel— is being taught in the churches and embraced by Christians. This false gospel will do damage to the souls of these Christians, as it renders the death of Christ meaningless. With this concern, Paul launched into this letter to clarify the gospel of Christ, refute the false teachers, and rescue the churches from danger. Today, we give our attention to this letter and heed the call to keep the gospel clear in our minds so it will transform our hearts for the glory of God.

varied trials, temptations, and tribulations throughout their time on earth. To ensure that the disciples are not surprised or deterred in the faith, Paul and Barnabas give them the direct message that tribulations will come, and the hope-filled promise that they will enter the kingdom of God. May the Lord strengthen our hearts today with these words.

The Lord gave truth to strengthen the disciples’ souls, elders to watch over the congregations, and grace to sustain them in faithfulness through the many tribulations they will face. These are our provisions for today. Let us receive them with gratitude and joy.
