FFA Week

This week is National FFA Week and chapters around the Nation are celebrating with dress up days and community service events. This week the GCMS FFA is celebrating with Chapter T-Shirt Day, Official Dress Day and an appreciation cook-out for the high school staff. Friday is also the final day fro strawberry sales! Please send your orders with an FFA member ASAP, or to Miss Novotney at novotneyk@gcms.k12.il.us. This Saturday will culminate this week’s events with the 8th Annual Scholarship Auction with lots of great items this year! The Silent Auction will start at 11:30-12:45 and a pork loin luncheon will also be served then. The live auction is to start at 1pm sharp. Come on out an support GCMS FFA! HAPPY FFA WEEK FROM THE GCMS FFA CHAPTER!

PTA CARNIVAL MEETING

There will be a PTA Carnival Meeting on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:30 pm at the Moyer District Library. We need lots of help and lots of volunteers to make this successful. You do not have to be a PTA member to help out.

The PTA Carnival will be Saturday, April 28th 2012 from 4-8 at the GCMS Elementary School.

Pizza Dinner Concert for Band

The Double Donation Dinner Concert is this Sunday, February 19 at the high school beginning at 4:00pm. Donation forms have been passed out to all band students grades 5-12. Donation form can be found here. We use these donations to buy food for the dinner, where you can come to eat some great food & hear your favorite band student perform as well. The "double donation" part is that we ask you to donate $5 per person if you choose eat. The dinner will be held in the HS commons and the bands will be performing in the HS gym. Food will be served starting at 4:00. 5th & 6th grade bands will play at 4:30. 7th/8th & HS bands will play at 5:00. The HS Jazz band will play at 5:30. The raffle drawing will take place around 6pm. We ask that students arrive at least 15 min before their scheduled time.

Come out to support the GCMS band program and hear some great live music too.

Safe Driving Coloring Contest

GCMS Elementary students participated in a coloring contest to promote safe driving practices in our community. The program helped to raise seat belt usage for teens and adults in our district by 88% Great job everyone!

After Prom Fundraiser

The Junior Class is conducting a Central Lean Fund Raiser to raise funds for their 2012 After Prom. Each comes with 4 – 1lb bundles of all natural all Lean Beef for $19.95. Wrestling State Finals

Four GCMS Wrestlers have advanced to the ISHA State Tournament this Thursday-Saturday at the Assembly Hall: Cameron Schwing (106lbs), Dylan Donner (120lbs), Chet McClure (132lbs) and Josh Wallick (285lbs).

If you are interested in watching, but cannot make it down the IHSA will broadcast all matches live online at www.ihsa.tv

All 4 of our athletes will wrestle during the 2:30 session on Thursday (Cameron will be the first match on mat 2). Go Falcons!

GCMS Night at the Bloomington Blaze

Don't forget to come out and support our High School Choir, singing the national anthem at the Bloomington Blaze's hockey game tomorrow! The game starts at 4:05, and the bus for the students leaves the high school at 2:15. We would love to see you there!

America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education

GCMS is working on “America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education” program from the Monsanto Fund. One of the components is to get as many farmers (and spouses) to nominate us as possible. If you’re a farmer or know a farmer in the GCMS district, please nominate us! The more nominations we get, the more support we have for the grant!

Middle School Book Fair

The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Community Unit School District #5 Board of Education has scheduled a Special Board Meeting to be held in the GCMS Board Room located at 307 N. Sangamon Ave., Gibson City, IL on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be in closed session for the purpose of self-evaluation, practices and procedures, or professional ethics when meeting with a representative from a statewide association of which the public body is a member.

Band Raffle & Double Donation Dinner

HS band students are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win great prizes from local businesses. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. See a HS band student if you're interested in supporting the band through this Raffle Ticket Fundraiser. The drawing will be held around 6pm on February 19 at the Double Donation Dinner.
