Well, if you thought that the well for 80s property remakes had run dry….you’ve been proven wrong!

A report by THR suggests that ALF could be the next retro property to find its way to the big screen. The co-creator, producer, writer, and puppeteer, Paul Fusco, recently revealed that he has intentions to pitch a movie about the cat eating alien to studios. Fusco has said that he’s been working on the project for a few years, and thinks that the time is perfect to bring ALF back, and that he’d be a good fit for modern and current sensibilities:

I think the timing is right. That’s a big important thing, timing. There have been movies out there of characters that I didn’t think were on the same parallel as ALF that got movies made, so I think it’s time. I think it could be a home run on a lot of levels.

ALF could be more outspoken now than ever, because the world is a whole different place than the ’80s. And I think the character still stands up and certainly has more to say now than ever. I think we would approach it in a fresh way. I don’t think we would duplicate the TV show, but I think we would maybe put it in a storyline where we would explain how ALF got here and put him with a new family and let the character speak for himself.

For those that don’t know or don’t remember, ALF was a sitcom that ran on NBC from 1986-1990, and then on ABC for a TV movie. ALF (Alien Life Form) was taken in by the Tanners after he crash landed in their garage. ALF also appeared in an animated series, video games, comic books, and has made many appearances in different places.

I will say this, with the success of The Muppets movie, I can definitely see this getting the green light. If it does, hopefully they maintain ALF the way he was, and not make him computer animated character, which truly there would be no need for.

Yep, you read that headline right, barely over a month before its June 29th release, Paramount is pushing the movie back 9 months to March 29, 2013 to add 3D.

Deadline is reporting that the move is in hopes of gaining a larger foreign box office take. One of the studio execs said:

We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally…Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.

Yes, they just used Titanic as the example for pushing back G.I. Joe Retaliation.

Yes, the argument can be made that pushing some movies back from previously established released dates have proven to be beneficial, but have those movies been pushed back a month before they were to be released? After the studio spent a ton of cash on a coveted Super Bowl commercial? I even saw some toys hitting the shelves this week. The marketing campaign has been in full swing, with commercials airing on TV. What are they going to do now? A new marketing campaign saying “You were pumped up, now you have to wait!!”

Now you might ask why the foreign box office is having such an impact on a film, where you would assume the main take would be in the US. Well right now, 3D is a huge deal, especially in Russia and China where they’re building new 3D theaters nearly by the week. The other argument that the studio has is that The Hunger Games proved that March can be a very successful time to release a movie, although all the prime time placement in the world won’t help a film that many people will be like “wasn’t that already released last year?”

Fun Fact: the poster here on the right, was just released May 8th and was labeled as the “final poster” for the film prior to its release.

UPDATE: Looks like the June 29th release date that’s been vacated by G.I. Joe being pushed back, has already been claimed by Universal, and pushing their ‘R’-rated comedy Ted ahead two weeks, from July 13th to the June 29th date. In fact the website TedisReal.com has already been updated to show the film hitting theaters June 29th

You can check out the red band trailer for Ted (since it’s at least coming out this summer) below

Its Michonne! Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at Danai Gurira as Michonne in The Walking Dead’s upcoming season 3.

For those who are unfamiliar with Michonne, she is a katana wielding badass who is an ally of Rich and the survivors. We saw a glimpse of her as the cloaked figure that saved Andrea at the end of season two. (A short origin story for Michonne was printed in Playboy magazine a few months ago, and you can check that out here)

EW, as if simply showing a picture of Michonne wasn’t enough, talked to Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead comic and executive producer on the show, and he explains her character and what we’re going to see in season 3 a little more.

The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics.

But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.

While I’m sure many have their own actresses in mind for the role, Kirkman also explains why they with with a relatively unknown in Gurira for the role, saying:

We looked at a lot of talented people that were really fantastic, but we were waiting for that one spark, that moment where everyone was completely in agreement and completely excited, and we felt like we had found the essence of this fictional character that just randomly appeared in another person, and that person was Danai Gurira. She kind of came in and really just blew us all away. She’s got incredible presence, and she’s got a theater background, and is very physical, and was just perfect for the role.

And if all of this, plus the behind the scenes video that was posted the other day, didn’t already get you excited and pumped for the return of this show, the fact that Kirkman himself is so excited should help you get to that point:

It looks absolutely amazing….They are shooting the hell out of this prison. It just looks absolutely stunning, and I think when people start seeing trailers and stuff for this season, I think people are just gonna be like, “Wait, what? This is what? I can’t believe this is a TV show!” It’s really creepy, really moody and it’s just gonna be really awesome

I won’t lie, I haven’t been keeping up with this lately, so this somewhat surprised me when I saw it, but Google Chrome has overtaken Internet Explorer to becoming the most popular web browser, worldwide.

I know that Chrome had been chipping away at IE’s lead, but last week, Chrome’s share of the market rose up to 32.8%, while IE’s dropped to 31.9% according to new data from StatCounter. This marks the first full week that Chrome has beaten IE.

What was once the mighty Firefox, but had lost steam in the past few years, sits at third with just under 25.5% of the market, and Safari coming in at a distant 4th with barely over 7%.

Looks like MonkeyLightning’s guess is probably wrong….

DC’s Senior VP of Publicity; Courtney Simmons, told ABC News: “One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June.”

The article states that DC plans next month to reintroduce one of its major superheroes as opening gay.

The article itself emphasizes reintroduce, suggesting it’s a preexisting character, just not one that has been introduced in the New 52. Rumors and theories are gravitating towards Wally West, the second Flash in the old DC who has yet to appear in the New 52, however he was married with twins prior to the reboot. So that would be a drastic change, and appear to be for nothing else but to raise fans’ already boiling rage for not already seeing Wally West in the New 52.

Theories also suggest it could be a character from Earth 2, or the yet to be reintroduced in a storyline Shazam.

As to keep things even between the two, Marvel Comics has announce that they will be revealing a major announcement tomorrow (Tuesday) on ABC’s The View. It’s assumed that this announcement will be of Northstar and Kyle’s wedding in Astonishing X-Men #50, which goes on sale early tomorrow, and has been hinted at for the past few months.

So as the two companies go back and forth to see who can grab the biggest headlines, who do you think will be the major superhero to be reintroduced as gay?
