There’s a very specific kind of stress that comes with traveling these days.

Your phone is dying. Your power bank weighs more than your toiletries. Your charging brick takes up half your bag. And somehow, somebody always loses a passport.

UGREEN seems to get it.

The brand just launched its new “Go Light, Go Bright” campaign, introducing compact chargers and smart trackers designed for lighter, less stressful travel.

As someone who already owns way too many UGREEN gadgets — chargers, cables, adapters, power banks scattered around the house like emotional support tech accessories — this lineup feels very on-brand for the company.

UGREEN has quietly become one of those brands a lot of techies end up collecting without even realizing it.

Smaller chargers, less bag chaos

Leading the lineup is the UGREEN Nexode Air 65W Charger, a compact fast charger built for people constantly on the move. Despite the smaller size, it can still deliver up to 65W charging power. UGREEN says it can charge an iPhone 17 Pro Max to around 68% in just 30 minutes.

If you prefer something even slimmer, there’s also the Nexode Air 45W Charger Slim, which feels designed for people who travel with tiny tech pouches and zero patience for bulky adapters.

Personally, this is the kind of gadget category I appreciate more as I get older. There was a time I willingly carried massive charging bricks in my bag. Now? If it can save space and still fast charge everything, I’m interested.

The magnetic power bank is surprisingly thin

UGREEN is also launching the MagFlow Air Magnetic Power Bank 10000mAh 15W.

The main appeal here is the size. At just 13.9mm thin, it’s designed to stay attached to your phone without making it feel ridiculously bulky.

It also comes with:

Qi2-certified 15W wireless charging

A built-in USB-C cable

An extra USB-C port for charging more devices

ATL battery cells designed for safer, long-term use

The trackers glow in the dark

UGREEN is also introducing two new smart trackers: the FineTrack 2 and FineTrack Mini 2.

The FineTrack 2 has a weirdly unique football-inspired design tied to the upcoming 2026 World Cup, while the Mini 2 is flatter and designed to fit inside wallets or passport holders.

Both trackers include glow-in-the-dark accents, which sounds really useful for people who lose things in dark hotel rooms at 2AM.

Other features include:

Apple Find My support

Left-behind alerts

Global tracking

Loud 110dB alarms

Up to 7 years of battery life

The passport holder tracker is probably the most relatable gadget here because losing your passport abroad feels like the beginning of a side quest nobody asked for.

Philippine pricing

Here’s how much the new lineup costs locally:

Nexode Air 65W Charger – PHP 1,221

Nexode Air 45W Charger Slim – PHP 1,299

MagFlow Air Magnetic Power Bank 10000mAh 15W – PHP 2,799

FineTrack 2 – PHP 630

FineTrack Mini 2 – PHP 570

The products are available through UGREEN’s official Lazada and Shopee stores.

The Macbook Neo is Apple’s newest entry-level laptop, starting at $599 (around ₱39,990 in the Philippines).

The machine features a 13-inch display, 8GB of RAM, a pair of USB-C ports, and most interesting of all, an iPhone-class processor derived from Apple’s A-series chips rather than the M-series chips used in most Macs.

At first glance, it sounds like a simple budget laptop.

But the chip choice makes the Neo far more interesting than its price tag suggests.

If Apple continues experimenting with iPhone-style silicon inside Macs, the MacBook Neo could represent something bigger: a quiet shift in how we think about computers.

Because once the same type of silicon can power both your phone and your laptop, the line separating those devices starts to blur.

The same brain in different bodies

For years, phones and laptops felt like completely different species.

Phones were convenient but limited. Laptops were where the real work happened. Different expectations, different chips, different worlds.

That gap has narrowed dramatically.

Modern smartphone processors nowadays are incredibly powerful. Apple’s A-series chips already outperform many laptop processors from just a few years ago.

When chips designed for phones start appearing in laptops, even entry-level ones, it suggests something fascinating.

The difference between a phone and a laptop may no longer be about computing power.

It may simply be about the body the computer lives in.

A phone is basically a computer with a small screen and touch input, while a laptop is a computer with a bigger screen and a keyboard.

The brain inside though, could be the same.

Apple’s real superpower: The ecosystem

Android fanboys will refuse to admit, but this is where Apple tends to shine.

Apple has spent years building an ecosystem where devices feel less like separate machines and more like extensions of each other. Messages sync across devices. AirDrop moves files in seconds. You can copy something on your phone and paste it on your Mac.

Everything is designed to feel connected.

If Apple starts blending the silicon foundations of these devices even further, that ecosystem becomes even stronger. Your phone, tablet, and laptop start feeling like different windows into the same computing environment.

Different screens.
Different ways to interact.

But fundamentally still part of the same system.

And that’s something Apple has been very good at for a long time.

My brain still needs a big screen

Personally, though, I’m not ready to live entirely in the mobile world.

A lot of people today do almost everything on their phones. Work, communication, editing, even content creation. For many users, the phone has effectively replaced the computer.

I still prefer working on a laptop.

Even better, a desktop with multiple screens.

There’s something about sitting in front of a big screen that simply works better for my brain. Writing, editing photos, organizing files, juggling multiple windows. Everything feels more comfortable when there’s room to breathe.

Phones are amazing tools, but they still feel like compressed workspaces.

And for me, some tasks just benefit from having more visual space.

When devices stop being categories

What’s fascinating about this shift is how the traditional gadget categories are starting to loosen.

If machines like the MacBook Neo continue to blur those lines, we might eventually stop thinking of devices as separate categories.

Instead, we choose the form factor that fits the moment.

Pocket-sized computer.
Couch-sized computer.
Desk-sized computer.

All powered by variations of the same silicon brain.

A quiet evolution

The MacBook Neo may not be the most powerful laptop Apple makes but that was never its goal.

What it hints at is something more subtle.

Phones are getting more powerful, laptops are borrowing ideas from mobile technology, and the silicon inside them is slowly converging.

One day we might look back and realize that the distinction between phone and computer was never as permanent as it seemed.

They were always the same machine, just wearing different shells.

I wanted to love it but...

If you haven’t heard of Iron Lung, it’s the feature film debut of Mark Fischbach (better known online as Markiplier) and it’s based on the indie horror game of the same name.

As a gamer who has spent time in the livestreaming scene, I was genuinely excited for this movie.

While I have never played the game myself, it had long been on my streaming list back when I was deep into my streamer/VTuber era.

The non-spoiler synopsis

Iron Lung drops us into a bleak future where all the stars and habitable planets have mysteriously vanished.

Humanity is barely surviving and a convict (Simon, played by Markiplier) is given a strange deal: pilot a tiny, aging submarine into an ocean of blood on a distant moon and take photos of whatever is down there.

That’s the mission.

The tension comes from the isolation, the limited visibility, and the constant feeling that something is out there.

A submarine that stayed under for too long

So now for the review! Let’s talk about the runtime.

At 2 hours and 7 minutes, it feels longer than the story demands.

The original game can be completed in about 90 minutes, and most horror films today stay under two hours.

Instead, the film… lingers.

There are extended cinematic close-ups of Markiplier grunting, emoting, breathing in claustrophobic frames. Technically solid (he loses clothes bit by bit by the way, haha), but the pacing drags.

I found myself wishing those extra minutes had gone to expanding the lore instead.

You see, the world of Iron Lung is fascinating. A blood ocean. Isolation. Cosmic dread. The film hints at it, but never really fully explored it.

Built for the faithful

I can’t help but think I would have appreciated the movie more if I had played the game.

And that itself is/could be a problem.

Adaptations should reward fans while still standing on their own. Even Silent Hill managed to pull in viewers unfamiliar with Silent Hill 2.

Iron Lung leans more on the niche side.

If you’re not already invested in the game or in Markiplier himself, it could be really hard to connect with the movie.

A promising first feature

But, let’s give credit where credit is due: for a debut feature, this is impressive.

It doesn’t feel like a lazy creator cash-in. It feels earnest, personal and ambitious.

Visually, it works and you can definitely see the filmmaker Markiplier wants to become.

What’s missing though, is refinement. A sharper edit. A tighter script.

But the potential? Absolutely there.

Final verdict

Rating: 6/10.

Atmospheric and clearly a passion project, but in need of restraint.

If you’re a big fan of the game or of Markiplier, it’s worth your time. If not, your two hours might be better spent elsewhere.

Still, watching a major digital creator take a serious swing at filmmaking is fascinating in itself, even if the submarine ride feels longer than it should.

Me at the end of the movie: “This dog needs therapy.”

Good Boy (2025) is one of those horror films that hooks you more with its concept than pure fear factor. Told entirely from a dog’s perspective, it’s a surprisingly emotional and eerie ride. The cinematography is especially interesting, everything feels a little off-kilter, like you’re seeing the world through a creature that senses things humans can’t.

It’s not the scariest horror movie out there, but it nails a few solid jump scares that’ll make you clutch your popcorn. The pacing starts a bit slow, yet it pays off in the last act with an ending that makes you go, “Wait, what just happened?” in the best way possible.

At just under an hour and a half, it’s a quick watch that doesn’t overstay its welcome, perfect for when you’re in the mood for something weird, creepy, and a little heartbreaking.

If you like horror films that experiment with perspective and atmosphere rather than gore, Good Boy is worth a watch. Just… maybe give your own dog a hug afterward.

GeekGirlManila Rating: 7.5/10

A unique, well-shot horror film that’s more emotionally unsettling than terrifying.

So got to watch Exit 8, yes, the movie based on that viral indie horror game where you’re stuck in a looping underground corridor. If you’ve seen people stream the game, you probably already know how creepy it can get.

Here’s the thing though: while I found the movie entertaining, it didn’t quite hit the same horror high as the game. I was expecting to be a lot more scared.

Instead, it leaned heavily into atmosphere and psychological unease. Not a bad thing! But if you’re hoping for heart-stopping terror, you might walk out thinking, “That’s it?”

That said, Japanese filmmakers really know how to play with space, silence, and tension. The cinematography? Gorgeous, as always. Every frame looks like it’s designed to make you question reality. And the good news, you don’t need to know a single thing about the game to enjoy this film. It works perfectly fine on its own.

Would I say Exit 8 is a must-see in theaters? Not really.

But if you’re curious, it’s definitely worth watching at least once. Personally, I wouldn’t mind just waiting for it to hit streaming services. Still, for fans of psychological thrillers (and anyone who loves stylish Japanese filmmaking), it’s a fun watch.

And if you want to catch it now, Exit 8 is currently showing in SM Cinemas nationwide.

My rating: 6.5/10.

Not quite the horror I was hoping for, but still entertaining enough for a night at the movies or maybe just a cozy streaming session at home.

If you’re heading to Tokyo Game Show 2025, make some space in your Indie Game Area itinerary because Lootbound is waiting at Booth 11-E25, and it’s not here to play nice.

This tactical roguelike dungeon crawler from ArtDock Studio mixes D&D vibes with the kind of loot system that will have you second-guessing every shiny item you pick up.

Will that legendary sword save you, or curse you into oblivion? Only one way to find out.

Every run is different thanks to procedurally generated dungeons, dice rolls, and a shapeshifting final boss that literally changes depending on your choices.

Plus, you get deep RPG systems, turn-based strategy battles, and story-driven events that make each party feel like a D&D session gone horribly right (or horribly wrong).

It’s dangerous, it’s tempting, and it’s gonna be at TGS 2025 this September 25–28.

You play as Dew, a young girl wandering through ten beautifully designed regions.

Okay, I have a soft spot for indie games especially ones made by just one person. There’s something magical about knowing a single dev poured their time, skills, and probably way too many cups of coffee into creating a whole new world. And Journey of Realm: Dawn Dew? Yep, it’s got me curious.

It officially launches today and will be at Tokyo Game Show 2025’s Indie Game Area (Booth 11-E63) which means I’m already adding it to my TGS must-visit list.

Meet Dew and her world

You play as Dew, a young girl wandering through ten beautifully designed regions. Think mystical forests, flowing streams, and intricate puzzles that will slow down even the most “I’m just here to fight” gamers.

And while exploration looks fun, the combat system is where things get spicy. You’ve got 11 combat styles, over 100 active and passive skills, and more than 100 usable items. Translation? Endless tinkering with builds until you find your perfect combo.

Why it’s on my radar for TGS

The fact that Dawn Dew was built entirely by one developer blows my mind. Tokyo Game Show is famous for bringing hidden gems to light, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns into one of those “I played it before it blew up” moments.

If you’re going to TGS, swing by the Indie Game Area and check it out.

Okay, so there’s a new mobile service in town and it’s a very interesting concept.

It’s called KiQ (yup, like “kick”), and it’s the first fully app-based telco brand in the Philippines. Basically, it lets you build your own plan from scratch. No need to deal with fixed promos or random bundles you don’t even use.

And yep, it’s from Smart, so it’s not some sketchy startup.

Everything happens in the app

Here’s how it works: you download the KiQ app, buy a ₱99 eSIM, and then use this neat little slider thing to set up your plan. You can:

Choose how much data you want

Decide if you want calls or texts

Set how long the plan lasts

Even pick your own number (yes, really but from what I’ve seen, you can’t exactly customize but instead you pick from a list of numbers)

So if you’re the type who only uses mobile data and never calls anyone (same), you won’t have to pay for stuff you won’t use.

eSIM but make it effortless

KiQ skips the usual QR code drama. Instead of waiting for a code in your email, you just tap a button and the eSIM installs directly from the app. Whole thing takes just a few minutes, and you’re good to go.

Better signal in crowded places?

Another cool feature: KiQ users get priority network access in high-traffic spots like malls, concerts, or schools. So in theory, your internet won’t lag when everyone else’s does. Still gotta test it during a real crowd, but sounds promising.

Who’s it for?

If you’re a student, freelancer, creative, gamer, or just someone who wants more control over your phone plan, this one’s worth checking out. It’s flexible, fast to set up, and doesn’t feel like a telco from 2009.

You can try it out now. Just download the KiQ app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, set things up in a few taps, and boom. Done.

Let me know if you give it a go. I kind of want to see if more people are into this build-your-own-plan idea.

Let’s get this out of the way: there is no such thing as complete privacy online.

If you’re already on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or any of today’s big-name apps, your data isn’t just “out there”. It’s already been packaged, analyzed, and maybe even sold. That’s the deal we’ve all made in exchange for convenience.

And yet, here we are, getting riled up over things like GBox or MicroG. As if sideloading Google services on a phone or using an open-source alternative to Google Play Services is the tipping point of our privacy downfall.

Spoiler alert: it’s not.

In fact, that’s probably the least of your problems.

We traded privacy for convenience a long time ago

Most of us hit “Accept All Cookies” without even blinking. We log into apps using our social accounts, allow devices to access our cameras and microphones, and let smart assistants listen for commands 24/7. We do this because it makes life easier.

But the same people who do all that will suddenly spiral into a privacy panic over MicroG? That’s like worrying about drinking tap water after spending an hour swimming in a public pool.

Privacy on the Internet? That ship has sailed.

Let’s get this out of the way: there is no such thing as complete privacy online. Even with VPNs, encrypted messengers, and decentralized browsers, you still leave behind a digital footprint.

Your metadata, your device info, your browsing behavior. It’s all trackable.

And unless you’re off-grid with a dumbphone and no Wi-Fi, someone somewhere is collecting something.

So yes, you can stress over every tracker and permission toggle but if you’re still posting on social media and buying things online, maybe stop pretending you’re off the grid.

Not all tools deserve the suspicion

There’s a growing tendency to immediately distrust anything that isn’t officially sanctioned or baked into the default OS, especially when it comes to accessing Google services on non-Google devices. But sometimes these workarounds exist for a reason.

Not all users have the luxury of choosing devices with full Google certification. In some regions, GBox or MicroG isn’t about hacking the system. It’s about restoring access to tools that users rely on daily, like YouTube, Gmail, or Google Maps.

Calling these tools dangerous without nuance ignores the context in which they’re used. That kind of fear-mongering may sound cautious, but it’s not always helpful.

The Smarter Take: Practice digital hygiene

Being conscious of what you share is still smart. Understanding how data works, who profits from it, and how to manage your settings matters. But let’s stop pretending that using an alternative app store or installing MicroG is going to make or break your digital privacy.

The better approach is to focus on digital hygiene:

Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication.

Don’t give random apps access to your contacts or camera just because they asked nicely.

Be mindful of what you post especially things like your birthday, location, and family details.

Regularly check your privacy settings. Most platforms bury them for a reason.

If you don’t want something leaked, don’t upload it. Period.

Choose your trade-offs

It’s okay to use the internet. It’s okay to use GBox. It’s okay to want a more private experience without becoming a full-on digital hermit. But if you’re going to stay connected, just know that some level of data sharing comes with the territory.

And if that truly bothers you? There’s a radical solution for that, too: log off.

Until then, let’s stop pretending that every app or service is the enemy especially when we’ve already handed over the keys long ago.

So instead of obsessing over one app or one workaround, maybe let’s shift the conversation. Focus on the actual choices you make daily not just the ones that make headlines. Because when it comes to privacy, awareness matters more than paranoia.

Because if this week’s baha wasn’t a cry for help, I don’t know what is.

So… while we’re still bailing out floodwater from Emong, Dante, and the habagat tag team of 2025 (seriously, three weather systems in one week??), Netflix casually drops news that Captain Planet is making a comeback. And for real, the timing couldn’t be more poetic.

That’s right. The OG eco-hero with the green mullet, blue abs, and zero chill for pollution is officially getting a live-action series. Not a movie. This was originally planned as a film but Netflix decided the planet’s mess probably needs more than 90 minutes to clean up.

Valid.

Wait, what is this again?

If you’re a ‘90s kid like me (yes, ’90s, hee hee), you probably remember Captain Planet and the Planeteers. That gloriously preachy, Saturday morning cartoon where five teens from around the world used their elemental rings (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart) to summon a floating, environmentally woke superhero who could laser beam toxic waste with a side-eye.

Now it’s being rebooted for streaming, with Leonardo DiCaprio (yes, the climate change Leonardo, not Titanic Leo, although same guy) producing the series through his company Appian Way. Also in the producer chair: Greg Berlanti, the guy behind the CW’s superhero multiverse (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, he knows his capes).

And writing the series? Tara Hernandez, whose work includes Mrs. Davis, Young Sheldon, and The Big Bang Theory. So expect meta humor, sharp writing, and hopefully some globally relevant (and locally relatable) storylines. Give me a typhoon-themed episode and I’ll scream.

Here’s what we know so far:

It’s going to be a TV series (not a movie anymore)

It’s coming to Netflix

Leonardo DiCaprio and Greg Berlanti are producing

Tara Hernandez is writing and executive producing

No casting or release date yet

Glen Powell, who was once attached to star, is no longer part of the project

So why now?

Captain Planet was way ahead of his time.

He was tackling pollution, climate change, and greedy corporations before it was cool (or mandatory). And after a week of non-stop rains, flooded roads, and weather alerts that felt like boss fights, we could use a little planetary intervention.

This reboot is coming at a time when environmental issues aren’t just school projects anymore. They’re our literal reality. And while we’re used to Pinoy resilience and wading through waist-deep water like it’s Tuesday, it’s also nice to imagine a green-haired himbo flying in to yell at corrupt systems and save us from drowning in our own trash.

Will it be cheesy?

Of course. But you know I’m still going to watch it, preferably while curled up on the bed during yet another storm, clutching my emergency snacks and yelling “Go Planet!” every time he appears.

So yeah. Recycle your plastics, bring your own tumbler, and stay tuned.

Because the power is yours… but a little Netflix never hurts.
