I love spending time in the afternoons playing some games with my younger kids – I have 3 kids that are in the age 5-7 range. They are starting to read, but can’t read really well yet, and things like logic and reasoning aren’t fully developed just yet. So the games they like have to be somewhat simple, but still fun.

There are a lot of different approaches to finding games that they will like: but really, it seems like as long as the game is fun then they will have a blast with it – and of course being able to build some memories of enjoying time together with you will be an added bonus!

Don’t Break the Ice: Embrace the Smash!

Original Game: The goal is to knock out ice blocks without letting the penguin fall through.

The Twist: Start with the regular rules, but when the kids’ attention starts to drift, it’s time to switch gears. Transform “Don’t Break the Ice” into “DO Break the Ice!!!” and let your little ones go wild smashing the ice bricks to their hearts’ content.

Original Game: Players answer Disney trivia questions, with a wagering system to move further along the board.

The Twist: Skip the confusing wagering system, especially for younger kids. Instead, just read the questions, roll the dice, and move along the board.

Better yet, invite everyone to join in—even the adults who were just planning to watch.

By opening up who can answer the questions, you keep everyone engaged and make the game more inclusive.

It’s a great way to turn what could be a frustrating experience into an all-out Disney trivia party.

Candy Land: Sweeten the Rules

Original Game: Players move their pieces according to color cards, with special candy cards that can send you backward or forward on the board.

The Twist: Say goodbye to the dreaded candy cards that could turn this game into an endless loop.

Instead, when someone draws a candy card, they don’t move backward or forward. They stay put, pretend to “pick up” the candy from the board, and enjoy an imaginary treat!

This tweak keeps the game moving, avoids frustration, and adds a fun little role-playing element that the kids will love.

Mouse Trap: It’s All About the Trap

Original Game: Players build a contraption and try to trap their opponents’ mouse while moving around the board.

These posters are a great addition to a room. Since there are so many options, even multiples for the same film, you can really choose just the right posters for you. For example, you could pick your favorite from each episode to display as a large gallery. Or, you could select several from one film for a smaller and more thematic collection.

There are some movie poster collections that are available. However, the problem is that when you select a movie poster collection, you get somebody else’s choice. As you can see from this list, you have several posters available for each film. So even if the collection was a lower price per poster, you may get your first choice of posters from some films but not from others.

All of these movie posters are 27″ x 40″, which is the same size as a theater movie poster. These movie posters really set the tone for your den, family room or home theater. Even though they are not limited edition Star Wars wall art, or come with certificates of authenticity, they add character to the room and look awesome in a nice frame!

If you love puzzles, mazes and labyrinths, or know somebody that does, you’ve got to know about Perplexus puzzles! You may have seen these puzzle balls in stores, but if you didn’t know just how fun they are and what a perfect gift they make, you may have passed up a really cool toy!

A Perplexus globe is about the size of a soccer ball but can hold more than 20′ of track inside! Falling off the track is a common occurrence, but thankfully it’s easy to get the fallen marble back to the beginning of the course and try it again.

The marble can’t get lost, because the globe is sealed – so the ball stays on the inside with the track, and as long as it’s unbroken the ball stays on the inside.

But Which One Should You Choose?

Each of the Perplexus Maze Balls has it’s own kind of “personality” that makes it unique.  There are some that are more challenging, some that are better for beginners.  Some that are bigger or smaller. So here’s all your options…

These Perplexus mazes are can be considered “full size”; They are the same general size as the first Perplexus ball: roughly the size of a soccer ball.

These mazes usually have about 100 twists, turns and challenges in them.

You can still find the Perplexus Original on eBay or other 2nd hand options.  But if you’re not hung up on getting the original colors, then you’ll be just as happy with the Beast.

Our last entry in our Awesome Perplexus Round-Up is the Star Wars Death Star! And what a perfect match to finish out this list!

The insanity of a Perplexus in a Star Wars Death Star setting! The only problem is that it’s out of print, so you aren’t likely to find it at most retailers. So this is another one that you’ll want to get from ebay (the picture here contains my affiliate link for ebay.) 

In this Perplexus maze game, the steel marble is the “X-Wing starfighter” working through the puzzle mechanics to reach the end and “destroy the Death Star”. You’ll twist and turn your “X-wing” through the complex 3D maze that mirrors the treacherous paths and corridors of the infamous space station. It’s not just about navigating the maze; it’s about reenacting the legendary trench run, where one wrong move will send you spiraling back to the beginning.It’s too bad that this one, like the Harry Potter Prophecy, is no longer in production. You used to be able to get it new in the box for about $50.  Not anymore.  Now that it’s somewhat rare and a sought-after item, you’ll pay a little more than that for one that’s new and in-the-box. Again, if you’re eager to add this piece of Star Wars and Perplexus history to your collection, your best bet is to hunt it down on eBay or other second-hand marketplaces.If you’re shopping for a puzzle of game for a Star Wars fan, then the Perplexus Death Star is the perfect choice!
