Since Congress doesn't have much else going on right now, on Friday the House of Representatives passed the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008, which will allow the streaming music site Pandora to continue suggesting to you other songs that sound just like that Miami Sound Machine song you love so much.

My favorite local Atlanta band right now is Envie. Shunning the conventions of both classical and rock and roll, they are a little hard to place into a neat box. Fronted by the crystalline voice of Renee Nelson, the band layers together complex melodies comprised of everything from electric guitar to violin to harp. Yep. Harp.

Venice is Sinking - no it's a good thing

I just saw this Athens, GA band play live the other night and I was really blown away. The juxtaposition of distorted guitar over clean violin creates a dense wall of melody that you are sure to enjoy. The layering of rock and classical instruments over a driving beat reminds me of Arcade Fire, or, to a lesser extent Sufjan Stevens, while the vocals insinuate Pixies.
