France has stepped up its collective game in the past twenty years when it comes to action movies, thanks mainly to names like Luc Besson and Pierre Morel. The country has produced the likes of The Professional, The Transporter, La Femme Nikita, and District B13, just to name a few. So far, Jean Reno has been a staple in the French action genre, and he has just signed to star in another feature called 22 Bullets (L’Immortel).

Written and directed by Reno’s longtime acting cohort Richard Berry, 22 Bullets has a plot that not only riffs on The Punisher, but copies it to nearly every degree. I’ll let the guys at QuietEarth take it from here with the plot synopsis.

After a long, brutal and successful career in the Marseille mafia, Charly Matteï has gone straight. For three years, he has lived a quiet life devoted to his wife and two young children. Then, one winter morning, he is left for dead on the docks of the old port with 22 bullets in his body. Somehow he survives. And goes looking for Tony Zacchia, the only man who would dare to try to kill him. Zacchia made just one mistake: he failed.

Frank Castle would be proud. I think this movie will fall right in line with the “older guys kicking ass” movies we’ve seen over the past couple years (Taken, the upcoming Michael Caine action flick Harry Brown), and I’m interested to see France’s newest take on the archetype.

Music is a powerful story telling tool when it comes to movies. It sets the tone and mood of what is being shown to us on screen. It’s amazing how much music can change the look and feel of a film. If you’ve seen the trailer and film clips for the movie 2012 then you know how serious Roland Emmerich is trying to make this movie, even though it’s hard to take seriously because of how ridiculous it looks.

Then someone comes around takes out Roland Emmerich’s music and puts in a song that is so much more appropriate for the film’s setting, and makes the movie look so much better. They added the theme song from the classic comedy Raising Arizona to this 2012 film clip, and finally we see what this movie is actually is… a fun dark comedy that I actually would be more excited to see.

Burke & Hare is a movie I am really getting excited about, it got a great story, great characters, and a great cast. The film is being directed by John Landis (American Werewolf in London, The Blues Brothers) and will star Simon Pegg, David Tennant, Dan Aykroyd and of course Bill Nighy. The film is based on a true story about two 19th century graverobbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school. Not too long ago we let yall in on Cory Feldman reteaming with his Lost Boys “FROG” brother Jamison Newlander and now we’ve learned that Cory Haim will return for the 4th installment of the now full speed Lost Boys franchise. He was quoted as saying

I will not be participating in Lost Boys 3: The Thirst. But I will be back for part 4 in which my character, Sam Emerson, will play a huge part in the storyline.

Haim was very unhappy with the way part 2 turned out and did not like the way his character took. So this time around he has a few stipulations about coming back. Finally he revealed that Warner Premiere plans on making about one of these films a year. Um, Warner what are yall thinking? Don’t ruin this freakin franchise like this! Haim also showed concern over them cranking out a movie every year like this!

Myriad Pictures’ untitled thriller which was written by American Psycho scribe Bret Easton Ellis. The film being shopped at the American Film Market under the title BAIT.

Brad Furman (The Take, the forthcoming Valet) is set to direct the movie, and as far as we know it is currently in pre-production. Check out the plot synopsis below, which seems like your average young adult revenge slasher flick, until they throw sharks into the mix.

Cole is a quiet young man, unassuming, who works as waiter at a posh beach club. But underneath his polite demeanor is a suppressed rage at hte wealth and bounty that surrounds him and is out of his reach. The arrogance and dismissive nature of the rich fuels his anger at the unfairness of the world, and he is a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode.

One night, a group of these elite kids build a bonfire on the beach and party into the late hours, drinking, dancing, swimming and having fun. Cole, off duty, watches the festivities out of sight. When he moment is right, he hesitantly strikes up a conversation with the pretty Haley. But when her boyfriend Ryan spots the two talking, he is incensed and aggressively confronts Cole. In spite of Haley pleading to let him be, Ryan and his friends beat Cole to the ground and then humiliate him before the crowd. It’s the trigger that sends Cole over the edge.

The next day the hung over friends plan to spend the day on Ryan’s father’s luxurious yacht. Haley had slipped this bit of information to Cole during their talk, and Cole is determined to exact his revenge. He disposes of the yacht’s first mate and reports for duty, claiming to the Captain to be the first mate’s friend, who had to go away on unexpected business. The Captain obliges and Cole stows beneath deck while Ryan and his friends climb aboard. When they get too far out to sea to be spotted from the shore, Cole kills the Captain. Waiting until everyone is in the water, Cole unleashes his sinister plan of revenge. His weapon of choice is a school of sharks smelling blood and slowly circling the boat. As Cole steadily picks off each of his enemies, their desperate chances for survival grow slimmer and slimmer.

From writer-director Seiji Chiba and action director Yuji Shimomura – the writer and director of Death Trance, respectively – comes Alien Vs Ninja! Hey, it was bound to happen eventually! Aliens and Ninjas are both awesome, so it’s only logical that someone would pit them against each other in a battle to the death. Check out the story summary on this bad-boy.

Once upon a time in Japan, there was a band of great Ninja warriors led by Yamata called Iga Ninja. One day they witness a flash in the sky and a roaring giant ball of fire crashes into the distant forest. The warriors rush into the deep woods in an attempt to identify the mysterious fireball. There, instead of finding predictable enemies, they are stunned to face never-seen-before creatures with claws and fangs, the aliens! The hungry brutal aliens start to savage and feast on the Ninja warriors, leaving only a few to survive. Yamata and his warriors swear to avenge their comrades’ deaths and risk their lives to challenge the aliens. However, none of the Ninja weapons, neither their swords nor their throwing stars, has any affect on the alien warriors. Now the Japanese greatest Iga Ninja face the biggest challenge ever!

The movie will most likely not make it to the big screen here in the States, but some footage of the film was shown that is described like Predator as filtered through Tokyo Gore Police.

Word has just come out of AFM today, that Dan Aykroyd(Ghost Busters) has just joined the cast of his Blues Brothers director, John Landis‘ dark comedy Burke and Hare!!! The already stellar cast includes; Simon Pegg(Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz), David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Bill Nighy (Underworld/Pirate Radio).

The true crime story of Burke and Hare, also known as the West Port murders, were crimes perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their seventeen victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection.

This is turning out to be a very promising project, with the right director at the helm and a brilliant comedic cast. There is still no word on who will be playing who. But it’s safe to assume that Pegg and Tennant will play the title characters.

I was at the movie theater last night and saw this new poster for Universal’s The Wolfman in the lobby. When I went to look for it online, the only thing I found was the Emily Blunt poster we posted earlier today, the one that had no Wolfman in it. Then all of a sudden the Wolfman poster I saw in the theater popped up over on AICN.

I really like the new poster, like the first one we featured this is has got a dark gritty film noir type feel to it. According to Joe Johnston he wanted the whole movie to have a film noir feel to it. You can see this style in the trailer with how they played with shadows and light.

Cry Of The Owl is written and directed by Jamie Thraves and is based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Myriad Pictures is planning to release the film in U.S. theaters this fall.

Synopsis Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Cry of the Owl is a psychological thriller about a troubled young man, Robert (Paddy Considine), a depressed but fundamentally decent man, who leaves the big city to escape a tumultuous marriage and his ex-wife for the tranquility of a small town. He finds respite from his problems by secretly watching the normal domestic life of a woman he doesn’t know Jenny (Julia Stiles) through her kitchen window, a seemingly harmless palliative to his lonely life and failed marriage. Robert becomes infatuated with Jenny. However, when Jenny catches Robert in the act, she doesn’t call the police. Instead she feels a strange empathy for Robert and invites him into her home. Robert is drawn into a relationship with Jenny, which has dire consequences when her boyfriend, Greg, finds out. Immediately suspicious of Robert, Greg makes it his mission to destroy him. But when a fight leaves Greg unconscious and missing, Robert discovers he is the number one suspect in a murder case that is slowly beginning to look like the ultimate set-up.

Remember pretty Danielle Harris from the Halloween movie? Now she’s fighting vampires in Jim Mickle’s Stake Land. Jim Mickle(Mulberry Street) will direct and co-write with Nick Damici.

Synopsis: Kelly McGillis plays a nun who joins a small team of survivors (including Nick Damici and Connor Paolo of “Gossip Girl”) as they make a treacherous journey north to safety through the war-torn U.S. McGillis’ character, “Sister,” faces a crisis of faith during the vampire bloodshed, ultimately taking up arms to do battle with her newly formed family unit.

Hip-hop star Method Man(The Wackness) and Angelic Zambrana (Precious) have joined the cast of The Mortician 3D. Producers say Tom Hardy(Bronson/Inception) and Edward Furlong (American History X/ Terminator 2) are also in talks to join the cast.

Written and to be helmed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts, the picture is being billed as a gritty urban drama. I love how they call it “urban.” You might as well say it’s a drama for “you people,” or I guess “us people.” Bastards. Belladonna Prods.’ Rene Bastian, Linda Moran and Adam Folk, and U.K.-based Full Circle Films will produce.

Rhys Thomas will produce the picture, which is set to shoot this month in Louisiana with a budget of $6 million.

Nothing story wise is given, but with Furlong and Hardy “in talks,” it sounds at least more promising than Eminem’s Shady Talez. What do you think?

The set of 30 Days Of Night:Dark Days is filling up with more familiar faces! Even though this will be straight to DVD I hear it’s going to be a high quality production which hopefully means great FX. The cast that has been added includes Kiele Sanchez (who replaces Melissa George as Stella), Mia Kirshner (as the vampire Lilith), Diora Baird (Night of the Demons), Rhys Coiro (Straw Dogs), Harold Perrineau, Troy Ruptash (as Agent Norris), Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian and Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy Vs Jason).

Ben Ketai is directing from a screenplay written by Steve Niles and himself.
