Nokia recalls its defective mobile chargers.

Nokia has issued a statement yesterday,regarding the free replacement of defective Nokia chargers.Nokia has stated that certain chargers manufactured by a third party company has a potential danger of an electric shock.The specifications of the potentially defective chargers are:

1.charger models AC-3U and AC-3E ( manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 )

2.charger model AC-4U(manufactured by BYD between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009 )

Quickly replacing the predecessor is the new samsung corbymate.Samsung corby had already gone tech-savvy with the samsung's touchwiz interface. It has now been remoulded to a smooth slider.

THUMBS UP FOR:

1. Samsung Touch-wiz interface

2. 2.8" capacitive TFT touch screen of QVGA resolution

3. MicroSD slot upto 8 GB( an internal memory of 90 mb)

4. Social networking integration

5. QWERTY keypad

6. Low price

7. FM with RDS

THUMBS DOWN FOR:

1. Cramped numbers(personally,i really hate it)

2. No autofocus in camera

3. No accelerometer controlled auto-rotate

4. microSD slot under battery cover

Design:

Coming to the design,the oval shape makes the phone easier to handle.The cover is made up of plastic.The slider feels smooth to be handled.The phone is quite resistant to scratches but I could not avoid the fingerprints.The screen is a 2.8" screen with 240x320 pixels.The phone has bad sun light legibility and the image quality is not bad.Having a capacitive screen its grabs an advantage.

Interface:

The phone's touch-wiz interface is awesome,as expected.The home screen can we filled with required widgets.The cartoon UI is great as in previous corby.The samsung corbymate can store 5000 contacts with 5 entry field for each contact.The contacts can be stored with photos which is quite cool.But what disappointed me is exclusion of smart dialing.We have good gallery for viewing images and videos though its a basic one.

The QWERTY board:

Sliding it out, we get a QWERTY keyboard.The numbers are arranged as in a QWERTY keyboard about the alphabets to complete the keyboard.But that doesn't serve the purpose.Dialing a number becomes a Herculean task for a new user and its even more difficult to dial in the landscape mode.The keys are too close which makes messaging a little difficult but you can get used to it quickly.Overall,the QWERTY keyboard is a little disappointment.

Music player:

It has the same music player as that of its brother.The music player can be placed as a widget in the home screen giving quick access to the music player.The touch-wiz interface makes it easy to use the player dedicated keys. The external speakers are super cool. The music player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA. The video player is a standard one with minimum features.

Camera:

The Samsung Corby mate has a 2MP camera with smile detection.But the cam lacks autofocus.The touch interface for camera is really good and the camera seems to be a neat performer.As usual, video recording is poor in a QVGA resolution at 15 FPS.

Social networking:

Social networking is pretty good.We can upload the files directly and logging in has also been made easy.Social networking sites include facebook,flikr,friendster, myspace and picasa.Yahoo messenger is an addition and its pretty neat.The samsung's web browser is up to the mark.

Final Verdict:

The CorbyMate is just a physical upgrade of the Corby with a QWERTY slider.On the whole,the phone is pretty similar to corby. Shedding extra bucks for a QWERTY slider seems to be a waste.Its better to go for the corby.If any of you want a QWERTY slider,please wait for the corbyPRO since it looks more promising.

Now,tweet your heart out , with a SMS to twitter,thanks to Airtel for bringing twitter SMS to India.you can now send updates to your profile via a SMS to 53000 .For this, you have to first link your device to the profile. If you have not linked your phone to twitter before ,you can do so, by two ways :

1. send “start” (without quotes ) to 53000.

2. Go to devices section on your twitter page and link your device using the given instruction,and that's it ,you can now start tweeting on the go ,by sending your updates to 53000.you can also use twitter commands for different actions on your account (like sending a private message to your friend).

Other carrier users can also send updates to their profile by sending a SMS to the same number (53000) but they cannot receive any updates from twitter.

Other ways of tweeting using your mobile :

Spam calls (or messages) are a major issue , nowadays .As they not only annoy us ,they even waste our precious time.Spam calls are not as easily controllable as spam e-mails ,As the latter can be controlled in a matter of clicks (I mean ,most of the time).but when it comes to unsolicited calls you have no other choice other than attending it .There are numerous ways to block calls from a particular number (choosing a method depends on your need and affordability).

To block Calls (or messages) from a particular number :

1. The obvious and the easy way to do this, is to contact your service provider,many service providers provide call filter Service which may includes call (or message) blocking from a particular number .

For example ,Vodafone subscribers in India can avail the call filter service by following these steps .

Step 1: Dial *514# (toll free) and press the call button

Step 2: Select the language of the announcements

Step 3: Select 1 to subscribe

Or alternatively you can also call 55144 and follow the interactive voice menu.

2. To block messages ,this article from Wikihow.com may help you.

3. You can also use some of the free call blocking softwares on the internet (like Call Filter,Call Firewall v1.1,Picture Caller ID etc) and If you can afford spending some bucks on this , there are quite a few premium call blocking software (like blackballer etc.), a simple googling could reveal them all.

4. If your mobile phone supports call diversion from a particular number , you can easily divert the call from that number to a non-existing number (or to a random number ).this is the most simplest and cheapest method of all .

5. when it comes to land line phones , you can use any of the call blocking devices available in the market.

if you just want to avoid spam calls (like promotional offers ,ad calls etc) from telemarketers ,you can easily block them by registering yourself at your country’s Do-Not-Call-Registry .

For Indian citizens : Register at www.ndncregistry.gov.in

MIT Student develops Microsoft surface like wearable Device.

Technology outruns itself.The day when laptops and computers are gonna be extinct are not too far away (it seems), Thanks to ,Pranav mistry a student from MIT who as made a “ wearable gesture interface device” ( named Sixth sense) that has the potential to replace laptops and computers (or even mobile phones ,for that matter) .The catch is that this incredible gizmo can turn any surface into a virtual screen (as you would have seen in the Si-fi flicks) ,more than that ,this virtual screen can be operated by simple hand gestures and all of these come at a dead cheap price of a mobile phone (believe it or not !).

With this device you can do almost anything right from locating your position on google maps to drawing a graffiti using hand gestures. for example , you could pick up any Book from the store and this device will display all the details about the book from Amazon.com. or you could even arrange your photos into an album using simple hand gestures like Microsoft Surface.In an interview to TED Pranav says, that this device can also be used for gamming and he even expects this device to change the way games are being played .

The potential feature in this device that can replace laptops and computers (even mobile phones , see the pic below), is that its compatibility to any programs that we run on computers now.

This device has been recently displayed at TED conference.

This amazing device is expected at a price of $350 ,when it is commercialized. Lets hope this Magical device to hit the Market Soon.[via labnol]

WINDOWS MEETS SYMBIAN:Windows 3.1 on symbian S60 devices

Finally the PC is going mobile.Here we present the WINDOWS 3.1 installed on a Symbian S60 device.Eventhough the facilities in windows 3.1 look a little dumb,its still an achievement to port windows on to the mobile and we thank the polish scientist for making that possible.Here is the complete guide to install WINDOWS 3.1.

DOWLOAD :

1. DOSBox v0.72 for Symbian by kolijoco,

INSTALLATION GUIDE v1.1 :

I. Installation of DOSBox v0.72:

1. Unzip 'DOSBox_s60.rar' to your PC.

2. Install all the application files in the INSTALL directory to your phone.

3. Now install DOSBox_Full.sisx

4. After installation,try running DOSBOX.If there is a message: 'Not enought memory', install 'DOSBox_Slim.sisx' by replacing the previous version.

II. Windows 3.1 for Symbian

1. Unzip the 'Win3.1-on-s60_v1.1.rar' file to your phone's memory card.(This also copies Norton commander 5 to your memory card,)

2. Run DOSBox.

III. To switch between Windows 3.1 and Norton Commander 5.

1. Go to 'Data' directory in 'Win3.1-on-s60_v1.1' file on your phone's memory card and search for 'dosbox.conf' file.

2. Open the 'dosbox.conf' file in notepad.

(In the dosbox.conf file,# is used in front of that line, to make that line as comment.That is what you must do switch between the two OS .i.e edit the DOSBox file and comment the unnecessary lines).If you donot understand what we are explaining, just forget what we mentioned above and just edit the conf file as given below.

To run Windows 3.1

(comment the NORTON COMMANDER 5 lines that are in bold as shown)

# Loader 1 -- Windows 3.1

# mount a e:\Data\win31\ (To install more drivers)*

mount c e:\Data\

FINALLY DON'T FORGET TO SAVE THE DOSBOX.CONF FILE.

* TO install new drivers you need t0 put Windows 3.1 driver files to 'memory card\Data\win31' directory.

Defective Nokia 5800 sets are out in the Market.

If you have bought a Nokia 5800 recently , it is likely that, your Nokia 5800 may have defective speakers.if not , it will go defective sooner or later. Russian website Mobile-review.com , conducted a confirmation test on this bug (after receiving many responses from its readers) by buying a 10 brand new Nokia 5800 sets and testing them under different conditions .The results of this experiments were shocking,Nokia 5800 sets showed all the signs of a defective piece.

Nokia had no other options other than confirming ( rather accepting ) the bug. According to Nokia , Nokia 5800 pieces that were manufactured before February are likely to be defective. The problem was due to the speakers supplied by a particular supplier, Nokia assures us that it has replaced the problematic supplier.

If you are shocked with this piece of information,Hold on a sec. the worst is yet to come, Even if you replace your Defective Nokia 5800 in the service station, the replaced product may also be defective ( as most of the products were manufactured before February of this year).However, Nokia assures that its customers can buy the Nokia 5800 without any fear as the problem has been solved now.

My personal advice is that , please hold on your plans of buying the Nokia 5800 until Nokia officially confirms the list of countries affected by this bug.

Nokia PC suite for Dummies part 1

Nokia PC suite is an application provided by Nokia to integrate your mobile with your PC or laptop.There by ,you can transfer all your datas from your PC to mobile and vice versa.Since ,PC suite is a vast topic to deal , at a stretch in a post ,So I would like split this post into two parts. In this Part 1 , we are going to see some of the basic operations like connecting your phone to the PC , Backing up your phone , transferring music and video to your phone.

1.Connecting your mobile to PC/Laptop :

First of all, Download and install the PC suite software ( suitable for your Nokia mobile ) on your PC / laptop.After installation you will be asked to connect your phone. you can connect your Nokia mobile with your PC through three types of connections :

1. Data Cable

2. Bluetooth.

3. Infrared.

Connecting through Data cable :

1.Connect the Data cable between your PC and and mobile, when its prompted by the connection wizard.

2. click Next ,wait until your Nokia mobile is detected.

3. If your device remains undetected , follow the steps from 1 again.

Connecting through Bluetooth :

1. Switch on the both your PC’s and Mobile’s Bluetooth ports.

2. The connection wizard will search for any connected device.

3. if your device remains undetected , follow the steps again from 1.

Connecting through Infrared :

1. Make sure that you have activated infrared on both your PC and your phone. For more information, refer to the manuals for your phone and PC.

2. Make sure that your PC and phone use the same infrared speed. To adjust the connection speed, go to Control Panel > Wireless Link > Hardware > Properties > Advanced. In the property list, select Maximum Connect rate and change the rate. For more information, refer to your PC manual.

3. For Symbian phones :

- To be able to connect your phone to the PC via infrared, make sure that you have selected to use the infrared connection type on your phone.

- To be able to connect to the Internet using infrared, make sure that you have selected to use the infrared modem on your phone..

4. If your mobile remains undetected , Restart both PC and the phone and try to create the connection again.

Back-Up your phone :

Backing up a phone has never been so easy , thanks to Nokia PC suite. With Nokia PC suite you can back up your mobile’s data in a single click .steps to back up your phone using Nokia PC suite :

1. Select the back up icon on the PC suite application.

2. By selecting the back up option from the wizard , you can easily back up your contacts,notes,memory card etc.

3. you can also restore your back up data by choosing the appropriate button.

Transfer Music and Video.

With Nokia PC suite you can ,not only transfer music to your mobile , you can also convert it into a mobile compatible format.When you choose a file for transfer, PC suit converts the file automatically into a mobile compatible format.

Steps to transfer music and videos :

1. You can transfer music and video files by simple dragging and dropping the files into the drag and drop area in your PC suite(as shown below).

1.Select Nokia music manager or Nokia video Manager.

2. Drag and drop your media files on the application to transfer them.

Tip

You can add Album art for a music file by simply dragging and dropping the picture in the “ Drag art here “ box.

Nokia unveils yet another touch screen mobile - Nokia 6208C.

Its been a year of Touch screen phones, right from the big daddy of all, the iphone 3g (the big daddy) to the recently introduced Nokia N97.Its seems that Nokia has decided to end this year with the same note ,with its introduction of Nokia 6208C (its third touch screen phone this year) .Nokia has designed this phone keeping in mind of its Chinese market . The design of the stylus reminds us the traditional Chinese bamboo slips and the touch screen on this phone is specially optimized for Chinese scripts.

This device houses a 3.2 Mp dual LED flash camera , and an external memory slot which can be extended to 8GB.with these features this new product from Nokia promises to be a decent touch screen multimedia device. Nokia 6208C is expected in the first half of 2009.

2. you can edit your post or post to another blog by logging in to go.blogger.com , using your track id or token (that you received from blogger).

Mobile Blogging for your wordpress blog :

1.create a separate Email account for mobile blogging (which is advisable, or use your existing account) .Then Log in to wordpress , and go to the writing options panel and specify your mail server and port number of your email account (you can find these informations in "account" or "settings" tab within your email account).

2.Enter your complete Email ID and password in the required fields .

3.Send posts to the Email ID ,to drive the posts directly to your blog.

And thats it, you can right away start your mobile blogging.

LG promises 4G with its LTE chips.

The Korean Telecommunication major LG has shown the path for the 4G technology by testing a working Long Term Evolution (LTE) chips (first of its kind) successfully . While testing , the chips exhibited a download speed of 60 mbps and an upload speed of 20 Mbps.

This technology has the capacity to reach a whopping download speed of 100 Mbps and an upload speed of 50 Mbps.The fastest phones in the market with 3G technology can reach only a speed of 7.6 Mbps. These LTE chips really promises the future of the full fledged mobile computing. With these whopping speeds you can download a movie with in a minute and you can even stream four HD movies at a time without buffering.So, We can expect a 4G mobile device from LG soon.
