On Giving Gifts

I guess it has been part of every culture to give gifts and presents during special occasions like birthdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, graduations, anniversaries and the list can actually go on and on. We are always finding excuses to give gifts, may that be as simple as a card and a birthday cake or as lavish as a 3-day trip to the celebrants birthday destination or an expensive jewelry. I guess it is part of our nature to be giving. It is also our way of showing that person how much we value and appreciate them. In fact for the numerous gifts we have sent, we sometimes run out of ideas what to give next. I bet I am not the only one who experienced this and I know a lot of you have also scoured the internet for bright confirmation gift ideas and the likes.

Watermelon Ginger Freezer Sorbet

We’re making mango shake every now and then to cool down a hot day. This weekend, instead of mango, we’re going to fix this Watermelon Ginger Freezer Sorbet, a super light, nonfat summertime dessert. Thanks to Spryliving.com for sharing the recipe:

Ingredients

4 cups seedless watermelon, cut into chunks
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon minced peeled ginger root
1 tablespoon lime juice
3/4 cup water, apple juice, ginger ale or white grape juice

Instructions

Place all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer 4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. In a blender or food processor fitted with the metal blade, puree leaving a few pieces (it should not be completely pureed).
Transfer mixture into a metal bowl and freeze about 1 hour until semi-solid. Mix with a wire whisk until smooth. Return to freezer another 30 minutes. Serve in chilled bowls or glasses.

Just because I am a mom busy with my mothering duties 24/7, my career and a whole lot of other important stuff that a modern woman like me needs to take care of does not mean I should sacrifice my sense of style and my fashion sense. Even though I can be like a spinning top not knowing which task to do first, I can still go about my affairs looking good and feeling good about myself. And thanks for fashion clothes at DailyLook.com and other online sites, I don’t need to sacrifice style in the name of frugality and practicality, either. If I know exactly where to go, I can still wear the latest fashion trends without burning a hole in my pocket, or worse, my husband’s!

Warning! Fake 1,000 THB Banknotes Circulating in the South

I bought a can of sweet milk and a pack of coffee in our nearest store last night. When I gave my 1,000 bank note, he scrutinized the note meticulously to determine if it’s fake or not. I can assure him it’s not fake coz I just withdrawn it from the ATM. I can’t blame him because a warning has been issued in Hatyai City that 1,000 fake bank notes has circulated the city since a street vendor was victimized last week.

The police said you can detect the fakes from the real ones by looking at the size, the color and feeling, the texture of bank note. The fake banknotes are smaller in size than the real one and when you pour water on the fake ones the color will fade.

The authentic Thai government banknotes uses a paper which is tougher because It is printed on special paper and has a holographic strip on the left side. These are the only genuine Thai banknotes.

We moved again!

It’s all in a sudden! My brother and his family moved from a rented room to a 3-room house. Little did I know that a proposal was made up to stay together in their spacious house for personal and practical reasons. We gave up the rented house we grow to love for a year and handed it over for couples who are very excited to have this place to call their own.

When our internet connection was transferred last May 19, we officially moved. Thanks to a dear friend who helped us moved all our things in a flash! Imagine for just a day, she’s able to make our old house spic-and-span that impressed the landlady and the new occupants. I’m left with all our things stocked in the store room waiting for Saturday to come in order to finish on arranging them. So far, we’re living harmoniously.

On the other hand, our desktop computer gave up on me! It won’t be turned on. It needs to be brought to HP service center. We need at least two weeks to wait for it to be repaired:( This means, lesser time for me to post.

Don’t forget in your itineraries a visit to The Great Pyramid at Giza . It’s the only one of the seven wonders that is still standing today, other than Jedward’s hair. Include too a tour to Saqqara (Step) Pyramids, the Citadel, an Islamic market called Khan el-Khalili, as well as other markets, churches and museums, all in Cairo. Mother’s Day Plan

Happy Mother’s Day dear mothers! I’m one blessed Mama to be able to celebrate this special day twice in a year- today and on August 12 (Thailand’s Mother’s Day). What’s your plan?

We’re going to church…will dine at JB Hotel and then swimming time with our kiddos at Hatyai Sports Club!

Busy Weekend

For working parents, weekend is always busy- household chores, running errands, grocery shopping, marketing, family get-together and more! For us, this will be extra busy because we’re moving…again! I’ll spare you with the details on why. This calls for another post. What I’m happy about with this move is it’s still in the same peaceful and friendly neighborhood, wider space, bigger bathroom with bathtub, kitchen inside the house , storage room (you know most apartments here in Hatyai City don’t have kitchen area!) and it’s just right across from our present house! We’ll moved out as soon as our internet connection will be transferred. But today, we’re going to move our things which we won’t use until our remaining days like most of our clothing, shoes, luggage and leather briefcase, potted plants, appliances, furniture and other household knickknacks.
