Voxbox Record Store Day event

We’re helping out with the party at VoxBox in Edinburgh on the day. Adam Stafford and Wounded Knee are playing, alongside some other great bands from Edinburgh and Glasgow. VoxBox will have a lot of the exclusive new releases too. The shop will be open 9.30am-6pm and the live music is 12-6pm. If you’re around in Edinburgh that day come down, have a browse, see some bands and support your local record shop. Here’s the lineup:

In The Ghost Of Piramida director Andreas Koefoed follows Efterklang on their 9 day audio expedition to the ghost town Piramida on Spitsbergen, located just a thousand kilometers from the North Pole and home to more polar bears than people.

Accompanied by their taciturn and not visibly impressed Russian polar bear guard, the group goes on a treasure hunt in the empty buildings of the ghost town, while the narrator, the former Piramida-citizen Alexander, takes us back to a bygone era, when Piramida flourished and the immigrant Russian miners and their families lived in a Soviet parallel society far from the brutal reality of their homeland.

Efterklang collected over a thousand sound recordings for the album ‘Piramida’ (4AD, Sep 2012) they later wrote and recorded in Berlin.

The music in the film incorporates some of the early sketches, as well as finished songs from the album.

Screening info: Saturday 2nd March 2013 in the cinema room of the Banshee Labyrinth, Edinburgh at 7.30pm. The screening is free but we have limited space so to reserve a space please contact us with your name. We will reply to confirm you’re in.

We’ll have a stall at the third SMIA Independent Music Fair. This time it’s on the 8th December, just in time for you to do all your Christmas shopping!

The first two events, both in Edinburgh, were a real success with lots of people coming down to see the bands and buy music and merch. This one promises to be even better. We’ve got Rick Redbeard playing a set, as well as lots of other good artists. There will be food offers and bar, so you can hang out all afternoon and browse and watch live music. Sounds pretty good to us.

You’ll have first dibs on our new run of t-shirts (same design, new colours). You’ll be able to get all our releases (that we haven’t sold out of) and there will be bargains to be had on some of them. We’ll have compilation tapes and stickers to give away too.

So it’s going to be a fun afternoon of music and records and a few drinks. Come along, bring the kids. It’s the day after our Gerry Loves The Festival show at Sneaky Pete’s, so maybe you’ll need a hair of the dog? It was a really great and busy afternoon, and we hope it will be again this time. We would appreciate you spreading the word, and maybe inviting yer pals to the Facebook event? If you’re not in Edinburgh, why not make a day of it at the start of the Edinburgh festival.

This time around the SMIA are organising. Here’s their blurb about it:

What better way to spend an afternoon: grab a drink, listen to some fine music and buy lots of great records from some of Scotland’s best loved record labels and bands.

We’re returning to one of the Fringe’s best venues and will be taking over the Dissection Room with stalls from Scotland’s finest independent record labels, including Chemikal Underground, Rock Action Records, Song By Toad Records, Gerry Loves Records and many more.

There’ll be live performances throughout the afternoon – line up to be announced shortly – as well as DJ sets so you that you can bop while you shop.
