Con el lanzamiento de iTunes 7.7, al fin tenemos una tienda de iTunes para Venezuela, aunque es sólo para aplicaciones y no hay ni música ni videos. Pero antes de crear una cuenta y volverse locos comprando aplicaciones para iPhone y iPod touch, lean bien los términos y condiciones que aparecen al crear una cuenta, específicamente el punto número 10:

Todos los pagos a los cuales usted esté obligado de acuerdo con este contrato deben ser hechos única y exclusivamente en dólares de los Estados Unidos de América, con exclusión de cualquier otra moneda.

En otras palabras, van a necesitar el jodido cupo de CADIVI para compras por Internet, el de los míseros $400. Si no lo han solicitado o ya lo gastaron, todavía tienen la oportunidad de crear una cuenta y descargar las aplicaciones gratuitas. Pero si tienen planeado comprar alguna de las aplicaciones pagas (como los juegos), verifiquen que no van a sobregirar su cupo. Sobregirar el cupo es un enorme dolor de cabeza y no se lo recomiendo a nadie. Así que compren con cuidado y moderación, y corran la voz para que nadie tenga problemas con el gobierno.

iTunes Remote: The free application that turns iPod touch and iPhone into a remote control for iTunes and Apple TV. Looks fantastic, and makes me wish I owned an Apple TV, or at least an Airport Express.

I’m probably the last person to notice this, but anyway, these are screenshots of the power and battery section of the iPhone 3G’s tech specs on Apple’s U.S., Spain and U.K. sites, respectively. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but it’s a shame the european iPhones don’t come with the smaller, more convenient power adapter. The british one in particular looks really huge in comparison.

I love how they use typical Telesur/chavista language (they’re “prisoners”, not “hostages”), wear red shirts and vests, and use red and white russian Mi-17 helicopters similar to the ones used by Chávez in december.

Google Talk for the iPhone: Probably the best iPhone web app I’ve seen, but I’ll be very disappointed if this means we won’t see a Google Talk app in the App Store. A native app could use the notification service to push new message notifications to the phone when you quit the app; the current web app sets you as “unavailable” as soon as you quit Safari or switch to another page and that’s it.

Looking for fonts?: Instead of struggling to find appropriate fonts for your project or muddling through tools like Identifont to identify a specific font, save yourself some trouble and just use FontShop’s Font Identification and Type Research service. After spending a good part of last night looking in vain for typefaces with a very specific look, I found their service today and sent a request explaining what I was looking for. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised when less than half an hour later I had in my inbox a list of no less than 17 fonts that were exactly what I was looking for. I can’t praise them highly enough; trust me, these guys know their stuff. Oh, and it’s free.

According to Mac Rumors, they found this tidbit in the readme file of the pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 seeded to developers tonight: Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store. I’d prefer if I could stream shared iTunes libraries to my iPod touch, but this’ll do nicely.
