A couple of rad videos landed at the gblk desk this week, and they are both too good to not share. First, the new Philly Jays diddy “The Good News” which is more like a Where’s Wally/Waldo game, and a brilliant video by Land of Talk and WeWereMonkeys.

WeWereMonkeys is a Canadian production company specialising in music videos, utilising mind-blowing animation and illustrations. They’re on to a real winner here with Land of Talk’s It’s Okay.

We saw her as the last of her tribe, riding her horse in slow motion through a lonely, dreamlike landscape. Okkervil River’s classic album ‘Black Sheep Boy’ will be available on vinyl for the very first time, 4 years after its original release.
Not only does it contain the lyric that inspired the name of this blog, together with its ‘Appendix’ EP, it truly is one of the great marvels of the 21st century – despite the #174 ranking in Pitchfork’s 200 top albums of the decade list.
Jagjaguwar will release it as a double-LP on 8 December, and what a magnificent birthday present that would be for me (if any of my friends are reading this..)

We Were Once a Fairytale, a short film by Spike Jonze, starring.. Kanye West?
’tis be true.
The 11 minute film that debuted at this year’s LA Film Festival, and according to Jonze, meant for release on iTunes in September, has now emerged on various locations around the intertubes.
In what can be described as Kanye’s homage to the death of his own ego, it really takes a turn at around the 8 minute mark when all sorts of weird ’shit’ happens. See for yourself here:
Update – looks like all forms of the video online have been taken off the air, and will be released officially on iTunes after all – something Kanye himself was not aware of. For a spoiler, check out the article at thestar.com.
And this is not for the first time either. In early 2008, the pair collaborated for the video, ‘Flashing Lights’, that controversially featured a tied and gagged Yeezy in the boot of a car being violently adhered to by a Playboy playmate, and a shovel.

Sydney’s iconic Hopetoun Hotel has shut its doors, with all future shows booked at the legendary venue cancelled indefinitely.
A seemingly innocuous tweet by agent @ford_davis around 6pm last night led to cries of disapproval and abject anger from the local community who have enjoyed many a memorable gig at the Hoey over the years.
Within minutes, a facebook group was set up to gather ideas on realistic ways people can help save the venue (at time of writing, the group has grown to 2,200 members). It has emerged that the reasons for the closure range from lack of security, compliance with safety, and money. Lotsa money.
What you can do to help
- Send Lord Mayor Clover Moore an email (via pre-worded form)
- Join the facebook group. Contribute realistic ideas.
- Follow @savethehoey. Look out for events. Attend the events.
- Tell your friends, parents, workmates, lecturers.. anyone who has ever walked out of a gig at the Hoey thinking it was the best night of their lives.
The twitterverse has been rife with rumours this morning, of the inclusion of David Bowie to the Big Day Out lineup in 2010.
As far as I can tell, it all started with this post by @GroupieMagazine, and there seems to be fairly compelling evidence that Bowie will indeed head over to our shores in January. Groupie also pointed out this article on stuff.co.nz.
All will be revealed tonight/early tomorrow morning where BDO are set to make it all official. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Triple J are maintaining that the rumoured lineup is false, and that you should tune in tomorrow morning for the official official announcement. Fingers crossed that Bowie’s name is not the ‘inaccurate’ part of the false lineup posted.

Pitchfork.tv has premiered Dan Deacon’s “Paddling Ghost”
Directed by Melbourne film maker Natalie van den Dungen, the clip features a Deacon mini-me, a ghost with an eye patch in a ‘literal interpretation’ of the song.
I’m about to head out to see Avenue Q, so the timing of this find is kinda perfect.
