Last night in Auckland, Pavement played their first show in 10 years. Video footage and setlist after the jump..
After the show, Spiral Stairs blogged about how ’seriously nervous’ they all were in the lead up to it, and it must be a huge relief for them to get that first gig out of the way. Of course, Sydney is next with shows at Enmore Theatre later this week, of which I’ll be attending on Thursday. To say I’m a wee bit excited, would be a gross understatement at this point in time.
And why not. I never got around to seeing them in the 90s unlike some of you, and those fears I think most of us had about potential sloppiness and lack of rehearsals have been lifted with a bunch of youtube clips emerging today.
Here is a 10 minute long cut of the highlights of last night’s show, including ‘Shady Lane’, ‘Range Life’, ‘Gold Soundz’ w/ acapella intro, ‘Cut Your Hair’ and ‘Spit on a Stranger’..
Spiral Stairs also shared a pic of the setlist for the evening, and it’s further evidence that we are in for real treat.

What better way is there to resurrect this blog than to share news of a brand new spanking Broken Social Scene track? And it’s kinda epic.
It’s been 5 years since the last proper BSS record (self-titled) and earlier in the month, Kevin Drew told p4k that the new album will be released this May.
To be titled ‘Forgiveness Rock Record’, the core 6 members of the ever-changing BSS brigade wrote and arranged the songs, while there are a cast of thousands that contributed to the record – we’re talking Leslie Feist (0f course), Sebastien Grainger (former DFA 1979), Spiral Stairs and many more.
Now the band has just made the first track from the album ‘World Sick’ available for a free download.

Okkervil River’s classic album ‘Black Sheep Boy’ will be available on vinyl for the very first time, 4 years after its original release.
Not only does it contain the lyric that inspired the name of this blog, together with its ‘Appendix’ EP, it truly is one of the great marvels of the 21st century – despite the #174 ranking in Pitchfork’s 200 top albums of the decade list.
Jagjaguwar will release it as a double-LP on 8 December, and what a magnificent birthday present that would be for me (if any of my friends are reading this..)

We Were Once a Fairytale, a short film by Spike Jonze, starring.. Kanye West?
’tis be true.
The 11 minute film that debuted at this year’s LA Film Festival, and according to Jonze, meant for release on iTunes in September, has now emerged on various locations around the intertubes.
In what can be described as Kanye’s homage to the death of his own ego, it really takes a turn at around the 8 minute mark when all sorts of weird ’shit’ happens. See for yourself here:
Update – looks like all forms of the video online have been taken off the air, and will be released officially on iTunes after all – something Kanye himself was not aware of. For a spoiler, check out the article at thestar.com.
And this is not for the first time either. In early 2008, the pair collaborated for the video, ‘Flashing Lights’, that controversially featured a tied and gagged Yeezy in the boot of a car being violently adhered to by a Playboy playmate, and a shovel.
