1. Your Logo Should Be Easy to Remember. The best way to ensure that your logo will easily be remembered is to keep it simple. It doesn’t matter if you choose to do a text logo or a symbol logo…it should be simple and “clean.” For instance, the Nike swoosh is just as memorable as Google. The only difference is one is an icon and the other is a symbol. Part of keeping a logo simple is keeping its colors simple. Try not to use more than three colors for your logo.

 

2. What is Your Unique Selling Point? When thinking about a logo, think about what your USP is. What message are you trying to get across to your prospects to make them want to buy your product/use your service? Can it be illustrated and turned into a logo?

 

3. Get Professional Help if Needed. Some business professionals are afraid to get a professional to help them design a logo, but the truth is that these individuals can be very helpful and valuable during this process. Creating a unique logo for your business is important and will help separate your business from others in your field. It will also help you expand your business as people begin to recognize your logo. However, this process can take a while, but in the end it’s worth it!

Step 2: In the upper right corner, click the drop down menu that has your account name on it then click My Videos.

Step 3: On the left side of the account page, click New next to playlists

Step 4: Fill in the new playlist details (title, descrption & tags) then click Create Playlist

Step 5: Privacy and Sharing settings.

Share: The share button gives you the url link to your playlist. This can be emailed to yourself or your friends. It also gives you an embed code so you can place your playlist on your website.

Privacy: This is where you determine who can see your playlist. Your options are private or public.

Step 6: Add videos to your list.

If you have videos uploaded they will be shown here. You would simply select the box next to each video you wanted to add and click Add To and choose which list to add it to.

In addition, you can click the Add Videos to Playlist button to select videos from your history and from recommendations.

Alternately, as you view other people’s videos, if you find one you’d like, you can add it to your playlist. Simply look below the video and click the Save to button as shown below.

• True Reach: Size of your engaged audience. Klout measures engagement through interaction, whether people add you to a list, etc.
• Amplification Probability: Measures how likely your followers will act upon your tweets. Will they generate conversation, retweets, etc?
• Network Influence: This is actual a measure of the influence of your engaged audience. In other words, do your followers have Klout too?

You can learn more about these measurements on the Understanding the Influence Metric page as the above serves as a very simple summary.

Step 1: Enter Your Twitter Name

Go to Klout.com and enter your Twitter name or the user name of somebody else. You do not have to log into Klout to get your Klout score, but you can sign up for more features if you wish.

To get started, click “Go” to get the results:

Step 2: View and Analyze Your Klout Score

Next, you’ll see a page with your Klout Score summary and a list of your “Achievements”:

You’ll see from above, that your Klout score is formulated by looking at your True Reach, Amplification and your Network Influence. The results page also includes your “Achievements” which shows:

• How many lists you are on
• Total reach for a single message
• How many times you’ve been retweeted
• Number of unique individuals who have retweeted you
• Number of unique users who have mentioned you
• Number of unique messages you’ve made that have been retweeted.

Step 3: Review Your Influence Matrix

Further down the page, you’ll see information about your Influence Matrix. The first item is an info graphic that shows your Klout Classification and it will look something like this:

In this example, Klout has determined the user is a “Thought Leader”. You can actually mouseover the graph and it will give a description of the other Classifications including:

• Curator
• Broadcaster
• Feeder
• Syndicator
• Celebrity
• Socializer
• Conversationalist

…and more. There is a different classification for each shaded box in the info graphic, for a total of 16 possible Classifications.

Next, you’ll see the people you influence and those who influence you. This is measured by retweets, @messages, follows and lists:

Step 3: View Your Content Analysis

Next, you’ll see a Topic Summary of your most influential topics. This is a calculation between topics you tweet about frequently and what topics have the most engagement. It might look something like this:

Step 4: View Your Score Analysis

You can get more details, by clicking the “Score Analysis” tab at the top of the page:

This will show graphs over time and specific statistics related to your Klout Score, True Reach, Amplification Probability and Network Influence. It also shows your average percentile for each.

Here’s an example of True Reach shown over time:

Step 5: View Your Content Analysis

Next you can look at a detailed “Content Analysis”. Just click the “Content Analysis” tab at the top of the page:

This repeats your Most Influential Topics, but also includes your top retweets. Here’s an example from Twitter user Stephen Fry:

As you can see above, it includes the detail of the tweet, who retweeted it and your possible reach from the retweet.

This page also shows your most clicked links (provided they are bit.ly links). Here’s another example from the same Twitter user. It shows the URL, date and number of clicks.

Step 1: Get the Embed Code

The quickest way to grab the embed code is while you’re viewing a video. Directly below the video, you’ll see an Embed button. Simply click it.

Step 2: Customize the video & player

Once you click the embed button, more options will appear.

• Include related videos
• Show a border around the video
• Enable privacy mode (no cookies are set by YouTube)
• Use iframe embedded code (used for playing with YouTube’s HTML5 and Flash players)
• Select a player color scheme that will blend well with your website
• Select the size of the video you want to play – or create a custom size

The embed code will automatically update based on the selections you choose. You can also see a thumbnail preview of your choices as you make them.

Once you’ve made your selections, copy and paste the embed code given.

Step 3: Paste Embed Code into a Webpage

Now that you have your embed code, you will log into the website where you want to add the video. In this example, we’re adding it to a wordpress post.
Make sure you are in the HTML portion of your page.

Step 4: Check the Video

Check the video to ensure it is located where you want and it is playing properly.

Step 1: Go to the Website and Enter Your Twitter Name

Go to FriendOrFollow.com, enter your username and click “Submit”.

Step 2: See Who’s Not Following You Back

Next, you’ll see a screen that shows you the profile pictures of all the people not following you back.

You can put your mouse over any of the pictures to get profile details:

If you click the “Follow” button above, you can connect your Twitter account to Friend or Follow to either unfollow or follow someone. Note: It will say “Follow” even if you’re following the person until you connect your account to Friend or Follow.

Once you’ve clicked “Follow”, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to connect your Twitter account. If you do, click “Connect”. If you’re not logged in, it will prompt you to log in.

Now that you’re connected, you’ll see the proper status of whether or not you follow someone. In this case, this account follows Alyssa Milano and now there is an option to “Unfollow”:

If you don’t want to give Friend or Follow access to your Twitter account: Simply click (instead of mouseover) the profile picture of the person you want to see and that will open the user’s profile in another window.

Step 3: Sort Your Search

You also have a few options in what names display. For example, you uncheck “Protected” (individuals who have set their account information to private) and “Verified” (individuals whose identity has been verified by Twitter) users, you’ll just have “Normal” users appear.

You can also sort by a few other options like “Username”, “Location”, “Followers”, “Following”, “Last Tweet” and “Account Age”:

You can even export your list to a CSV if you’re so inclined. You’ll see this option near the top right of your list:

That gives you an interesting spreadsheet that includes the following data:

• Screen Name
• Twitter ID
• Location
• Description
• Follower Count
• Friend Count
• Date Account Created

…and more.

Step 4: Find Your “Fans”

You can also find out who follows you and you don’t follow back. This is handy to either boost your ego or so you can follow some interesting people who are interested in you. 

Click on “Fans” near the top right corner of the page:

You’ll then see a list of people who are following you and aren’t following you back. You can mouse over their profiles, choose only to see certain accounts and sort by a number of criteria – just like in Step 1 and 2 of this guide.

Step 5: Find Your “Friends”

You can also find the people who you are following and who are following you back. Just click on “Friends” near the top right corner of the page:

And then you’ll see all the profile pictures of the people you follow and who follow you back. You can sort, make a CSV and mouseover the profile pictures…just like in previous steps.

• A pre-recorded video
• Computer  or cell phone
• Internet connection

Preparation:

You can make a video for YouTube using a digital camera, web cam or cell phone. To edit your video, you can use Windows MovieMaker, iMovie (Mac) or any number of other programs.

YouTube allows you to upload a variety of video formats but each video can be no more than 15 minutes in length or 2GB in size.

Upload Video from Computer

Step 1: Log into your YouTube account and at the top of the page, click Upload.

Step 2: A new page will open. Click Upload Video or Record From Webcam depending on which you want to do.

Step 3: If you select to Upload Video, a new box will open, click Browse.

Step 4: Locate the prerecorded video you want to upload from your computer and click Open to start the upload.

Step 5: Fill in the video information and privacy settings.

• Video Title
• Description
• Tag (keywords describing the video)
• Category
• Privacy

Click Save Changes

• Copy the URL info to share your video by email
• To embed the video on your blog or website, copy the embed info

Tips for faster upload…

Uploading a video can take minutes or hours, depending on the size of the video, how you’re uploading and your internet speed. A few things that can help speed up the process:

1. Decrease the file size by switching from HD to standard or shrinking the size with a compression program. Caution: Both of these methods will lower the quality of the video.
2. Turn off all other programs running in the background that might be using your internet.
3. Avoid high traffic times. Wait to upload videos during the late evening or early morning hours when less people are using the service.
4. If all else fails, edit the video to remove some of the length (and size) or rerecord a shorter video.

Upload Video from Your Cell Phone

Note: This only works if your cell phone & service plan supports video capture and is web-enabled.

Step 1: Log into your YouTube account

Step 2: In the upper right corner, click the drop down menu that has your account name on it then click Account (see image below)

Step 3: On the left side of the account page, click Mobile Setup

This will generate your own unique YouTube email address in which you can email your videos to – thus adding them to your account.

Simply add the email address to your cell phone address book and any time you want to send a video to your account, just email it to this address.

You will need:

• Facebook account with info and privacy set up
• Twitter account
• Fan or Business Page

Step 1: Log into Facebook & Applications Area

Once you log into your account, look in the sidebar for “Applications”. If you don’t see it in your list, you may need to click the more tag under Photos for it to appear. Once found, click the Applications link.

On the new page, you can see your current applications and those that your friends use. Scroll to the bottom and click the directory link.

Step 2: Navigate to Twitter Application

Next you will see a page with featured apps, suggested apps, and more. Rather than browse through the apps randomly, type Twitter into the search box as seen below and click the enter key on your computer to begin the search.

When the results show, click the Twitter link.

View the information on the new page or choose to add the application immediately with the “go to application” button.

Step 3: Connect Accounts

Fill in your information to choose which twitter account you would like associated with your Facebook profile or fan page.

Step 4: Grant Permission

Next, the application will request permission from you. Be sure to read the permission request and terms of service carefully. If you agree, click “Allow.”

Step 5: Choose Tweet Location

When your accounts are connected, you will see a check next to the page title. Choose where you would like Twitter to post tweets on your Facebook, profile or Page. As you can see below, I chose to place the twitter updates on the wall of a business page.

Step 6: Tweet and Check

To test, make a tweet using the twitter account you associated with your fan page or profile. Navigate to your fan page and click the wall tab to see if your tweet is there.

Adding and setting up the Facebook application, Twitter, is easy with this overview of what you can expect. Try it for yourself.

• Notification of new messages
• Automatic URL shortening
• Cross-post to Facebook, LinkedIn and more.
• Post images to yfrog.

Step 1: Install the Twhirl Software

Go Twhirl.org and you’ll find the install button on the right side of that page. Click “Install Now”.

Instructions will vary, depending on your operating system, so follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Step 2: Set up Your Accounts

If you choose the default install, the software will automatically open. Now you can start entering your account information.

Enter your username in the box shown and click the return key on your keyboard or click the button:

Do this for as many accounts you’d like to add. Next, when you’re ready to connect to an account, select the account you want by clicking on it and then click “Connect” on the right side:

A new box will pop up, prompting you for your password. Enter your password and click “Login”:

Step 2: View Your Stream and Start Tweeting

Once you’ve logged in, you can view your Twitter stream. You can scroll down to see older message.

Let’s go through the options at the bottom of the software screen. The first option is “Toggle Input Panel”:

If you click that, you can remove the input panel (the space where you enter your own Tweets) and that will expand the number of Tweets you can see from others.

Step 3: Reply Messages

Next, you can view your Replies. Just click the @ icon at the bottom of the software:

Once you have your Replies open, you have a few options. Just mouse over the user image to see them:

Your options are from top left:

• Click @ to reply publicly
• Click the envelope to reply via Direct Message (as long as the person is following you)
• Click the heart to “Favorite” the message
• Click the fast forward icon to retweet the message

Step 4: Direct Messages

The next feature is to view your direct messages. Just click the envelope at the bottom of the screen:

Again, when you mouseover the profile image, you’ll be presented with some options:

Your options from the top are:

• Click the envelope to reply via Direct Message
• Click the trash can to delete the message

Step 5: View Your Archive

If you click the folder button, you’ll see the archive of your tweets and direct messages. If your archive happens to be blank, just click the “refresh” button, shown at the top right below:

For your tweets, you have the option to “Favorite” or delete.

Step 6: View Your Favorites

If you click the heart button, you’ll see all the tweets you’ve made your “Favorite”:

Once again, if you mouseover the profile image, you’ll see the following options:

Your options from top left are:

• Click the @ to send a reply
• Click the envelope to send a direct message (as long as the person is following you)
• Click the heart with a line through it to remove your “Favorite”
• Click the fast forward image to Retweet the message.

Step 7: Friends & Followers

Click the icon with two people and it will show your friends and followers.

By default, this will show your followers. These are people that follow you, but you don’t follow back. By putting your mouse over the profile image, you have a few options:

Your options are:

• Click the @ to send a reply
• Click the + to follow them back
• Click the envelope to send a direct message

Step 8: Look Up

You can also look for Twitter users to follow by clicking the icon with the person and the question mark beside it:

Just enter a name and click the magnifying glass to the right to see if that individual can be located, as shown above. Once you do that, you’ll see users matching that description.

You’ll see your options to the right of the results. They are:

• Click the @ to send a Reply
• Click the envelope to send a Direct Message (if the person is following you)
• Click the + to start following
• Click the circle with a line through it to block the user

Step 9: Search

You can also search twitter for certain topics, keywords, etc. Just enter what you’d like to search for in the box and click the magnifying glass to see the results.

Step 10: Change Your Settings

As you use the software, you’ll see the default setting is to notify you of new messages with a little “ding” and a pop-up in the bottom right of your screen:

You can turn this off and adjust other settings by clicking, the Configuration icon:

You’ll see general setting options as follows:

You can set this particular account as your default, turn off spell checking, post updates to Ping.fm, Jaiku, etc.

Click the “Visual Tab” for more options:

You can choose to auto-hide the tweet input, change the font and size and more.

Click the “Notify” tab and you’ll be able to adjust the settings for the notifications:

You can choose to turn of notifications, adjust the volume and more.

Click the “Network” tab for more settings:

Step 11: Let Twhirl Work in the Background

If you want Twhirl to continue to notify you of new messages and Tweets, click the icon as shown below and it will continue to run while you use your computer.

Once you’ve done that, you can find Twhirl under your task bar anytime:

Step 1: Tab Options

Once you’re logged into your YouTube account, at the top of the page, you’ll see some tabs. These control your channel settings, themes, colors, videos and more.

Bulletin: The first tab is where you can post a bulletin to your subscribers, friends, home page and channel page. You can include a link to a YouTube video as well. Just enter your message and press “Post Bulletin”.

Settings: The settings tab will show you your channel URL. Here you can enter a title & keyword tags for your channel, select the type of channel it will be and set whether or not it is visible to others.  See the following page for images…

The image & information below shows the channel types that you can choose from & the customization options that each type allows.

Be sure to save your changes before moving on.

All accounts share the basic features on YouTube like uploading, commenting, sharing, video responses, etc. The specialized account types offer different customization options:

Director: Allows customized “Performer Info” to be displayed on your Profile page, describing yourself, your influences and your style.

Musician: Allows custom logo, genre and tour date information, and CD purchase links on your Profile page.

Comedian: Allows custom logo, style and show date information, and CD purchase links on your Profile page.

Guru: Allows custom logo, genre and links on your Profile page.

Reporter: Allows you to describe your Beat, your Influences, and your Favorite News Sources.

Theme & Color: Here you can choose from a variety of preformatted theme colors. Alternately, you can click the “advanced options” link and customize your theme to match your business or website theme.  Click Save Changes or your selections will not be saved!

Modules: Modules control what is shown on your channel page.  Simply select the modules you want displayed and unselect the ones you don’t want displayed.

Click Save Changes before moving on.

Tip: You can change the order in which your modules appear on your channel. To do this, go to your channel page & locate the directional arrow buttons in the upper right-hand corner of each module. Click the button(s) necessary to move the module to its new location.

Video & Playlists: The Video & Playlists tab is where you set what to display and highlight on your channel page. You can set the layout (player view or grid view), which video to play first when someone lands on your channel page and whether the video should autoplay or wait for the visitor to press play.

Don’t forget to save your changes!

Step 2: Edit Remaining Items

Once you have everything laid out the way you want, it’s time to edit the details of each area. To do this, simply click the “Edit” link in each section and fill in the missing details.

You will need:

• To have previously created an account at Facebook.com
• Basic info set up
• Privacy settings customized
• Fan or Business Page

Step 1: Log into Facebook & Applications Area

Once you log into your account, look in the sidebar for “Applications”. If you don’t see it in your list, you may need to click the more tag under Photos for it to appear. Once found, click the Applications link.

On the new page, you can see your current applications and those that your friends use. Scroll to the bottom and click the directory link.

Step 2: Navigate to Social RSS Application

Now you will see a page with featured apps, suggested apps, and more. Rather than browse through the apps randomly, type Social RSS into the search box as seen below and hit the enter key on your keyboard to begin the search.

When the results show, click the Social RSS link.

View the information on the new page or choose to add the application immediately with the “go to application” button.

Step 3: Grant Permission

Next, the application will request permission from you. Be sure to read the permission request and terms of service carefully. If you agree, click “Allow.” You’ll then be taken to the Social RSS Feed Settings page where you can fill in your feed information.

Step 4: Choose and Setup Feeds

In order to import your feeds, you will need to fill in this information:

Quick select – Choose where you would like this feed to appear, on your profile or a page. In this case, we chose a fan/business page.

Feed URLs – Add feed urls that you’d like to include on the page’s feed tab or wall. You may choose up to 5 feeds to include.

Tab settings (Top)

Add a title – The merged title appears as the page heading when you visit the rss tab.

Add an intro – Write something about your site or describe what will appear in the feed you’ve chosen. There is a 500-character limit. A counter lets you know how many characters are left.

Add your website link – This should normally be the link to your website’s home page.

Choose number of entries – Use the dropdown to select how many feed entries you’d like to display in Facebook.

Choose description (content display type) – No display (title only), full description (shows exactly what’s in your feed), or first line only, with no html.

Note: If you have excerpts showing on a WordPress feed, you can select “full description” and only your excerpt will show. If you are showing your full post in your rss feed but just want to include a teaser/excerpt on Facebook, you will need to select the “first line only” option, which will essentially limit the content to the first line of the content.

Tab settings (Bottom)

Items (size) – Closed shows just a title and date for all entries. Open shows all entries open to full description selected. First item open shows a combination of the above options. The first entry is open to show the description (content) while the following entries show only the titles. This differs from description type in that it allows readers to open and close the description area with a single click.

Display date – Choose yes if you’d like the entry’s post date to show in the feed.

Time zone – Set your local time zone.

Share buttons – Choose yes if you’d like readers to share your post from this application.

Send to wall – Choose yes for this option if you would like to send these feed entries to your wall.

Auto-like – If you choose send items to your wall, you may also choose to automatically “like” the post. If you do not select yes in the option above, the “auto-like” option is not available.

Click update. You will see a popup when your feed has been imported. It also offers a trial offer for the paid version. If you’d like to try it out, click the “trial” button, otherwise click ok.

Do not close the page.

Step 5: View Feeds

To view your rss feed on a business page, navigate to the page by clicking on the link in the top left of your page.

A tab should have been added to the page. If you have several tabs, some may be hidden. Simply click the double arrows ≫ to view your hidden tabs or new RSS page. Click the RSS tab to see your new feeds.

Depending on what settings you’ve selected, your RSS page feed may appear something like the image below.
