The free agent says he's frustrated but hopeful a deal will get done despite lengthy negotiations, but Kupchak says he isn't as optimistic as he was. Rumors of interest from Miami swirl.

L.A. Times: … The Times has reported that Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, are seeking $10 million a season. The Lakers have offered Odom a deal north of $9 million a season for the first three years.

Odom and Schwartz are seeking more money and years.

“I can’t discuss that,” said Odom, who attended a screening party Monday night for the DVD featuring the Lakers’ 2008-09 championship run. “You talk about money, it’s touchy. It’s a touchy subject.

“The Lakers have been too good to me to rub people over there the wrong way. The Lakers have been nothing but great to me, and I want to keep the relationship great.”

Lakers owner Jerry Buss, who improved on his offer of $8 million a season to Odom, is getting frustrated and is thinking about pulling the deal off the table soon.

A bunch of new and interesting news came out tonight while Lamar Odom was at the Lakers Championship DVD screening.

The Video -

And here’s a small piece from the O.C. Register. Gives me a little more hope, than the above clip.

The Tweets -

From Ramona Shelburne’s Twitter account…

Odom said he’s still “hopeful” he’ll be back with the Lakers.

Odom: “It’s business. It takes a little bit of the fun out of the game, but it’s part of it.”

I joked, “When you said you’d take a pay cut, did you realize how big a pay cut it’d be?” He said, “Um, no.”

Articles -

Some very interesting quotes coming from the mouth of our GM. What are your thoughts, Lakers Nation? Sound-off!

Inside The Lakers: Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said tonight he was “not as hopeful” of re-signing unrestricted free agent Lamar Odom “as I was Friday.” Asked why, Kupchak said, “It’s just a feeling you get. You have conversations with the player’s representative and, right now, I’m not sure we’re on the same page.”

Asked during halftime of the Lakers-Clippers summer league game, if he was the point of throwing up his hands in frustration, Kupchak said, “Perhaps.”

Kupchak said he had no further plans to talk with Odom’s agent, Jeff Schwartz.

“I understand it’s a process. I am surprised it’s taken us so long to get to this point.”

It’s believed the Lakers have offered Odom a deal of more than $8 million per season. It’s also believed that there are no other teams currently courting Odom, who made $11.4 million last season in the final year of a six-season deal he signed with Miami.

While the general manager of the Lakers, Mitch Kupchak, is working feverishly these tense hours to retain a vital member of his world championship team - Lamar Odom - he admits he hasn't had time for a reflective perspective of the past season's success.

Daily News: While the general manager of the Lakers, Mitch Kupchak, is working feverishly these tense hours to retain a vital member of his world championship team – Lamar Odom – he admits he hasn’t had time for a reflective perspective of the past season’s success.

While Kupchak now can claim nine title rings on his resume – three as a player – it’s indisputable that the latest is the first one as a Lakers executive in which the large shadow of Jerry West hasn’t haunted him.

After all, when Kupchak succeeded West after the Shaquille O’Neal-Kobe Bryant Lakers won their first NBA title in 2000, the foundation of the team that would wind up winning three in a row was laid by West with his acquisitions of O’Neal and Bryant.

It would be West who would receive the credit for such an achievement, and it would be Kupchak who would receive the blame when the Lakers struggled so badly after O’Neal was traded to the Miami Heat that Bryant even publicly censured Kupchak and expressed a desire to depart the team.

But that was in the long ago past before Kupchak pulled off his Pau Gasol heist with the Memphis Grizzlies and brought in people like Trevor Ariza, Shannon Brown and Josh Powell, each of whom made vital contributions during the Lakers’ playoff run.

Lamar Odom is believed to be seeking at least a $10 million contract from the Lakers. The Lakers aren’t willing to part with that kind of dough because of salary cap and luxury tax issues. The deal the Lakers were reportedly offering was for around $7 million.

But the sides might not be as far apart as that. Ronnie Lester, assistant GM, told me Saturday he heard the Lakers are now offering “a little north of $8 million.” He also said he expects a deal early next week.

“It does seem he is the odd-man out,” GM Ronnie Lester.

O.C. Register: Ran into Assistant GM Ronnie Lester, who is taking in the Summer League games here in Vegas, mainly to get a good look at Adam Morrison. The rest of the Lakers team, including draft pick Chinemelu Elonu, are little more than prospective training game fodder.

Morrison, though. has a guaranteed contract which means — barring a trade — he is expected to be back with the Lakers next season. And since Mitch Kupchak repeatedly has said the Lakers will carry a maximum of 13 players (yes, that includes Lamar Odom), which could leave Sun Yue out.

Lester agreed.

Sun missed last year’s Summer League because of his commitment to the Chinese National Team. He again skipped this summer’s play in favor of playing overseas.

Lester said Sun’s apparent lack of commitment to the Lakers and the fact he missed all of training camp last season because of an injury, doesn’t help his chances of keeping his roster spot.

“It does seem he is the odd-man out,” Lester said.
