Build Quality and Design

LG Optimus 4x HD comes in the same segment of HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III but on the contrary it has a very simple and nice design with no curves, the build quality is just amazing as most part of the LG Optimus 4x HD does not feel plasticy.

The chrome bezel on the edges make the phone look more premium and zig zag design on the other hand on the left and right side of the phone gives the user a much better grip over the phone, and not to forget the matte finish with nice design helps a lot as well. On the top you have a  phone you have 3.5 mm audio jack which bulges out and power and sleep key which works effectively, the phone does have a built in microSD card slot, battery and NFC built in.

Display

The display is 4.7 inch 1280 x 720 pixels) True HD IPS display which actually is very smooth and easy on eyes, thanks to the LG Optimus UI which has been designed and overlayed on the top of android OS to make things easy for the user, as you drag the finger on the lock screen you will be able to see the items on the lock screen. By default, you get a Yahoo! Weather, Google Search and music widgets loaded on the homescreens, you can easily add more widgets or delete the ones shown over there.

Camera

The camera on LG Optimus 4x HD is 8 Megapixel which is quite good in natural light but it does take some time in focusing on smaller objects, the color reproduction over the images taken with camera was quite good. LED Flash played a great and good role in illuminating objects in low light conditions. Continuous shot and Time catch shot were two most used features we used while capturing photos.

Multimedia and Video Playback

The video player on LG Optimus 4x HD is really nice as it does offer a lot of feature which were missing in the media players we have seen in other android phones in the same price segment, it plays all the videos of format MP4, DivX, XviD, 3GP, and WMV videos with upto Full HD quality. You can move the play slider to preview what is happening in the video at what point of time, you also get pinch to zoom and you can also play a video in slow speed, take a screen shot of any video frame and lock the screen while watching the video.

User Interface and Connectivity

Most of the apps like application manager, task manager and contact support comes preinstalled, this phone have 3G, Wifi and edge connectivity and we did not faced any issue while using data with any of the connectivity options.

The default weather app is quite simple to use as you just need to specify a location and then it will fetch the weather for your location anywhere in the world, music player on the other hand is great but does not look very good.

Battery Life and Connectivity

Although the LG Optimus 4x HD has the biggest battery compared to the other phones in the same price segment, it has 2100 mAh battery but the battery life was not very good but was average while using 3G on it. LG Optimus 4x HD also support NFC and it does come with three NFC tags. We found that when we played videos the phone ran out of battery much earlier than other phones, however the battery performance was better when we made the brightness at the lowest acceptable to us.

LG Optimus 4x HD is no doubt great android smartphone but at this price point of around Rs. 32,999 INR it faces a close competition with Samsung Galaxy s3 and HTC one x, but key points of LG Optimus 4X HD is elegant looks, great display, powerful processor, smooth and fairly well designed interface and a respectable camera.

Nokia Pureview 808 is not a just a phone but its really a full fledged camera, this statement I heard from some one before I got it for review, but with time I understood why a layman person would say so as all the Pureview users I encountered bought the device for its camera and for most of them it actually replaced the point and shoot camera which is so bulky to carry when compared to Nokia Pureview 808 which is slightly heavy phone because of its 41 megapixel sensor camera which is packed inside with a great form factor.

Build and Design

Nokia Pureview 808 is designed quite nicely considering a powerful 41 megapixel sensor camera, build quality like any other smartphones from Nokia is built like a tank, feels solid in hand and can also resist any accidental slip from hands from a ground height of around 1 meter, as it did slip from my hands couple of times as the back side is matte finish as with sweat the back side of the phone becomes slippery. Nokia Pureview 808 is no doubt thicker and heaver than regular android phones but it really feels solid and the rounded curves on the phones design make it easy to slip inside your jeans pocket and you wont feel much weight once you carry the Nokia Pureview 808 in the pocket.

Screen Display

Surprisingly, Nokia Pureview 808 has 360×640 pixel resolution which is less than regular smartphones in the same price segment, however it is quite ok on eyes but when you run some apps you will see some text stretching on screen. However the display is AMOLED capacitive touch screen but some wrong coded apps may make the display crappy some times which is not the phone fault. The viewing angles of the display are quite wide and when you tilt the phone at an angle you can still easily read the text on the screen comfortably to a greater level.

41 Megapixel Sensor Camera – Yes it can replace Average Point Cameras

The back camera is most unique thing about Nokia Pureview 808  as I have never seen such camera in any smartphone till date, it can shoot at 38 megapixel max but you cant zoom when you use it on 38 MP mode as it cant scatter the pixels further.

Photos

The Carl Zeiss lens module is a xenon flash, assisted by an LED Flash so there are two flash on Nokia Pureview 808 back camera. The lens on Pureview 808 even has a ND filter which help users take picture with more natural colors, the camera hardware is supported by the software that Nokia which makes using this camera more fun, we recommend you to use it on 8 Megapixel mode which gives you the best quality for objects not far than 4-5 meters.

There is a dedicated camera key, but its not very tactile and pressing it sometimes to take a shot can be really harder and make shake the camera the photo might get blurred, so during our test we always used the on screen shutter button which can pressed quickly for quick shots easily rather then pressing the camera shutter key again and again.

Yes, for those who are thinking of using Pureview 808 should think of this option as I used Nokia Pureview 808 as default camera for taking photos during a holiday as it was much portable to carry as compared to my Cannon Powershot 150 IS and I never felt the need of using my bulky camera when I used Nokia Pureview 808.

Videos

Nokia Pureview 808 records Full HD videos at 1080p@30fps, lossless digital zoom, LED light – you cant use the Xenon flash in video recording as per the phone options. Even if you do, it will make the phone really hot while long video recording and kill the battery power like anything. Zooming while recording a video is also very easy and it does record the sound very well even in very noisy environments.

OS and Interface

Nokia Pureview 808 comes with Symbian Belle Feature Pack 1 which is enhanced version of the Symbian operating system, it runs fairly smooth and faster on 1.3 Ghz processor of this phone. Just like other smartphones it does have notification drawer which reveals itself when you slide your finger from top to bottom on the screen.

Whenever an app is running it will show a small white color circle on the app which is running in background, the apps layout and icons are rounded and looks much better as compared to the previous versions of android. You can switch in between running apps and tasks by long pressing the Home key.

Ovi Store has 50, 000+ apps, which is not little at all, and covers a lot of ground, but most of them are with clunky interfaces and poor display of text. However the apps are quite limited you can expect very good quality of apps like iOS or android on this phone as Symbian is a discontinued platform.

Internet Browser

The Internet browser on Nokia Pureview 808 is a bit limited but does support the main functions which you would look for like tabbed browsing, pinch to zoom is good and other important, however the loading speed of web pages is also quite ok, you can find out more in the video review of the browser below.

Battery Life & Connectivity

Without any doubt I can say that the battery life on Nokia Pureview 808 is much good as compared to the other smartphones of the same segment. I have used for taking photos, uploading them on 3g, used phone for calling as well, it lasted us for 2 days with us, but please note that phone calling and receiving was minimal in this time period as compared to other tasks.

The battery backup was good most important because the OS on Nokia Pureview 808 is much simplistic with much simple features. 

When it comes to sharing internet from Nokia Pureview 808, you can easily do it with Lite version of Joikuspot which comes preloaded on the phone.

Apart from this we did not face any issue with 3g, Edge or wifi connectivity on this phone. Nokia 808 PureView also provides NFC and Secure NFC functionality which is gradually gaining more and more support in the real world and will be standardized soon in upcoming years.

Yes, this is some thing every gamer desire a great gaming mouse, Logitech G400 Optical Gaming Mouse [Wired] is really one such mouse a gamer would desire to have, we used this mouse for more than a month and we were delighted with the precision pin point accuracy of the same.

Normally when people talk about gaming mice, they may talk about the number of functions keys on the mouse but no talk about how much comfortable a mouse is to use in the longer time frame. Sensor Quality and Precision

The optical sensor on G400 is really enhanced with maximum 3600 DPI and polling rate was 1000Ghz, the overall precision and pin point accuracy you will feel once you install the software which comes with the mouse with in the package.  

Buttons

The buttons on the mouse for increasing and decreasing the DPI levels are quite hard but easy to press because of the right positioning. The Forward and Back button on the left side of the mouse are again easy to press but there the rubber buttons so will tend to collect some dust on them with some prolonged time of usage. The Scroll well smooth and nice but you can easily feel the sensor 

Form Factor

The mouse is quite big to hold in hands but decent enough for a average palm size, it designed similar to the old mx518, the wire length is around 1.25 meter which is quite decent for a gaming mouse, It does feel light to carry in hands both to lift and to carry as well.

Conclusion

This seems to be a great mouse of gamers with such a comfortable form factor and light weight with sufficient buttons, however it lacks the customizable buttons and the scroll wheel of the mouse make some sounds and however this could be something we experienced on a unit. 

Apple has announced the new iPad mini some minutes ago, it has the same resolution of 1024×786 which you see in iPad on a lower screen size of 7.9 inch which should look better than iPad 2, however you will still be able to see the pixels on the screen as its not retina and no where close.

When iPad Mini coming to India ?

iPad mini should be coming to india in next 2 weeks, most probably on within two days if we are right, it might get launched here in india on the same day iPhone 5 is launched that will be October 26th but as per the previous history iPad takes more than 2 weeks to come to india officially and to be available it takes another 1 week from the launch date.

We went to the Apple India website which clearly indicates that iPad 2 is taking the india route in next few weeks as the website says its coming soon, not on the home page but when you click the iPad mini image on the home button, the next redirected page says its coming soon…

iPad 2 VS iPad mini Price Difference ?

As per the pricing announced as if now at the launch event of iPad mini – its starting at $329 for 16gb model wifi only which will turn out to be nearly 20,000 to 21,000 INR Indian rupees which does not make sense as iPad 2 is already selling here at 24,000 for 16gb wifi version, as there is 3,000 price difference and big difference in screen size.

So, as per our assumption if apple wants to sell iPad mini here in india, they either need to launch it at lower price than 20,000 INR which is unlikely or the should come up with a 8gb model for iPad mini model which is not yet announced but if they do announce it it should be around 16000-18000 price segment which will be the best, so we will see if that happens in future.

iPad 2 will be discontinued and will stop selling in India ?

Yes, as soon as the iPad mini comes in india, apple will stop selling iPad 2 in some weeks so if you think iPad 2 is better deal for your at price difference which should be around 3000 INR for which you get a larger display, go ahead and buy iPad 2.

Google is holding an event on 29th of October where they are going to reveal couple of nexus devices including the first nexus phone from LG, Nexus 10 inch tablet which might be again from ASUS and other nexus series.

The most important of these launches will be LG Nexus phone which should be called Nexus 4 which seems to be get available in india pretty soon in some weeks after this announcement goes on 29th October.

As most of us know Microsoft is holding an event in New York on 26th of October to launch the new version of windows operating system named Windows 8. The new version of os which is will be called windows 8 is designed in different way so that it runs windows on a tablet and other portable devices like windows phone.
